This sort of thing gives one hope for the future:
A "flu trap" that captures viruses could help prevent the spread of infection, scientists claim.
Researchers at the University of Manchester have developed a fabric coating for masks and air filters that isolates the viral particles responsible for influenza.
The technology mimics carbohydrate structures on the surfaces of cells lining respiratory airways and the oesophagus, or food pipe.
Paul Hope, director of the biotec company Virustatic that is seeking to commercialise the idea, said: "It's a whole new preventative approach to disease and if implemented could be transformative."
...
The team found a way to anchor sugary glycoproteins first to carbon cloth and then cheaper materials such as cotton.
The molecules were able to capture and trap more than 99% of the flu viruses that came into contact with them.
I am not sure what that means or how it would be applied, but it sounds like breakthrough stuff. Maybe even bigger than frequent handwashing!
And this goes beyond the flu:
The scientists aim to develop the technology further to capture other potentially deadly viruses such as those responsible for Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (Mers) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (Sars).
Since the Zika virus is transmitted by mosquito bite it would not be a candidate.

Here's Stephen Moore, with some of the new conventional wisdom that's popular here:
"Trump doesn’t have the cadre of Republican consultants, pollsters, funders and party organizers that I would argue have been a big part of the problem with our government. They are the party apparatchiks the Trump brigades are partially rebelling against."
So, the problem with our government isn't that we're told by Top Dog Democrat that government will take all of our Julia's from cradle to grave, it isn't that Democrats rammed through Congress a pervasive big-gov't template stamped on every medical transaction in the country, it isn't that the U.S. standing in the world is vastly diminished after eight years of Top Dog leading us from behind. No, a "big part" of the problem we have is that the opposition to all of that hasn't been sufficiently sincere or effective. It's more Karl Rove's fault than Obama's. And that's who DT's supporters are going to teach a lesson, yepper. Like I said earlier, since my choice isn't going to get there I can always imagine he would have been great without risking being proven wrong, but it's so much different for the DT supporters - really, the best outcome for them is probably that DT loses the general. That way, it has to be the GOPe's fault, or at least certainly not the fault of DT or his supporters. If Trump were to win, though, there would always be potential for the recurring question - "OK, now do you think Hillary could have possibly have been any worse?".

Four Vowels Short of a Box:
Lincoln himself noted you can fool all of the people some of the time. We may have that with Trump -- Mr. Dilbert seems to think so, and he has been more right about his campaign than anyone.
The danger of Trump losing is that there will be a group who knows he was sabotaged, and they will keep the angry flame a-burning. And, on the other side, will be a chorus of "told ya sos", and the concerns and abandonment felt by the Trump voter will continue to be felt by the Trump voter. (I think this is true if Trump wins, but obviously, others will differ)
This is a mess, and it isn't easily solved, and it is going to require some reflection, and any true reflection, post-election, is probably going to need Trump's participation whether any of us like it or not.

Funny, turns out I feel I could vote for Trump before I could vote for Jeb!.
At least Trump recognizes several problems faced by the country -- i.e. the GOPe, the press, the dampening effect of large government of the economy, ObamaCare, to mention a few.
He modifies his position when it doesn’t work.
He recognizes that you need to have good people around you, and that if you fail, you get replaced.
He recognizes thuggery and meets it with resolve.
He recognizes democracy is war by another means.
He may be bombastic and even an ass, but you go to war with the candidates you have, not the ones by the wayside, and certainly not the other side’s liars and cronys.

Reality:
Kasich has been mathematically eliminated from getting a majority of the delegates.
Cruz would need to win 87% (or perhaps 81%--I've seen both figures mentioned.) And I don't see a way for him to accomplish that feat, considering some the big states that are left, like NY and PA, where he is not polling well enough to have even a hope.
So only two things will happen. Either Trump will go into the convention with enough delegates on the first ballot. Or he won't.
If there is a contested convention, neither Trump nor Cruz will emerge as the nominee, because the GOPe will control the process.
Then either the Republican base will rally around whichever tomato can who is nominated giving said can a chance to beat Hilligula, or enough of them will stay home, and the tomato can will lose.
More reality: In the March 15 primaries 57% to 61%, depending on the state, answered yes to the following exit poll question: "Do you feel betrayed by the Republican Party."
Even more hard reality: No matter who the nominee ends up being--either a tomato can or Trump--he's going to need those voters who feel betrayed by the party to turn out for him in the general election. If they don't turn out, he'll lose. Period. That's why they're called "the base."
