First

So I heard.

Minus one for herd immunity.

Here's Stephen Moore, with some of the new conventional wisdom that's popular here:

"Trump doesn’t have the cadre of Republican consultants, pollsters, funders and party organizers that I would argue have been a big part of the problem with our government. They are the party apparatchiks the Trump brigades are partially rebelling against."

So, the problem with our government isn't that we're told by Top Dog Democrat that government will take all of our Julia's from cradle to grave, it isn't that Democrats rammed through Congress a pervasive big-gov't template stamped on every medical transaction in the country, it isn't that the U.S. standing in the world is vastly diminished after eight years of Top Dog leading us from behind. No, a "big part" of the problem we have is that the opposition to all of that hasn't been sufficiently sincere or effective. It's more Karl Rove's fault than Obama's. And that's who DT's supporters are going to teach a lesson, yepper. Like I said earlier, since my choice isn't going to get there I can always imagine he would have been great without risking being proven wrong, but it's so much different for the DT supporters - really, the best outcome for them is probably that DT loses the general. That way, it has to be the GOPe's fault, or at least certainly not the fault of DT or his supporters. If Trump were to win, though, there would always be potential for the recurring question - "OK, now do you think Hillary could have possibly have been any worse?".

Appalled

Four Vowels Short of a Box:

Lincoln himself noted you can fool all of the people some of the time. We may have that with Trump -- Mr. Dilbert seems to think so, and he has been more right about his campaign than anyone.

The danger of Trump losing is that there will be a group who knows he was sabotaged, and they will keep the angry flame a-burning. And, on the other side, will be a chorus of "told ya sos", and the concerns and abandonment felt by the Trump voter will continue to be felt by the Trump voter. (I think this is true if Trump wins, but obviously, others will differ)

This is a mess, and it isn't easily solved, and it is going to require some reflection, and any true reflection, post-election, is probably going to need Trump's participation whether any of us like it or not.

Buckeye

This is a mess, and it isn't easily solved, and it is going to require some reflection, and any true reflection, post-election, is probably going to need Trump's participation whether any of us like it or not.

I'm sure a president Trump will be only too happy to tell you how he won;)

A president Trump will effectively re-brand the GOP, for good or ill. I wonder where all the more traditional conservatives will go.

This "flu trap" might be more useful if it filtered out the sickness that is liberalism. Would be especially useful if it filtered out the BS supporters (Bernie Sanders), sort of like "fly paper" for catching BS.

Funny, turns out I feel I could vote for Trump before I could vote for Jeb!.

At least Trump recognizes several problems faced by the country -- i.e. the GOPe, the press, the dampening effect of large government of the economy, ObamaCare, to mention a few.

He modifies his position when it doesn’t work.

He recognizes that you need to have good people around you, and that if you fail, you get replaced.

He recognizes thuggery and meets it with resolve.

He recognizes democracy is war by another means.

He may be bombastic and even an ass, but you go to war with the candidates you have, not the ones by the wayside, and certainly not the other side’s liars and cronys.

He'll need help.

What? No Joltin' John Bolton. Don't know enough to critique the choices, but nothing raises hackles in the brief bios.

Yeah, put me down with the exact same thoughts. Plus remember when I had to back McCain, and then Romney. If its Trump then I would expect these GOPe types to get in line. I got a clothes pin I used that they can borrow...

Reality:

Kasich has been mathematically eliminated from getting a majority of the delegates.

Cruz would need to win 87% (or perhaps 81%--I've seen both figures mentioned.) And I don't see a way for him to accomplish that feat, considering some the big states that are left, like NY and PA, where he is not polling well enough to have even a hope.

So only two things will happen. Either Trump will go into the convention with enough delegates on the first ballot. Or he won't.

If there is a contested convention, neither Trump nor Cruz will emerge as the nominee, because the GOPe will control the process.

Then either the Republican base will rally around whichever tomato can who is nominated giving said can a chance to beat Hilligula, or enough of them will stay home, and the tomato can will lose.

More reality: In the March 15 primaries 57% to 61%, depending on the state, answered yes to the following exit poll question: "Do you feel betrayed by the Republican Party."

Even more hard reality: No matter who the nominee ends up being--either a tomato can or Trump--he's going to need those voters who feel betrayed by the party to turn out for him in the general election. If they don't turn out, he'll lose. Period. That's why they're called "the base."

From a lyle link last thread;

President Barack Obama declared a “new day” in U.S.-Cuban relations, but acknowledged “serious differences” exist between the two countries in remarks at a news conference with Cuban President Raúl Castro.

And he is bitterly disappointed in an American people who have resisted him eliminating the remaining differences between us and the Marxist thugs running Cuba.

In the car, Hannity had on a Kasich supporter (sounded like a guy who was political operative type), a well spoken Cruz woman supporter, and a black pastor who supports Trump.

Kasich supporter said it was fine that he was still in because no one had a path to 1237. Cruz supporter blew her top and said that wasn't true and, by the way, explain getting all that money from Soros.

Stammers and deflection, no answer.

Miss Marple 2

Kasich on TV speaking before AIPAC. Says again he won't take the low road to the highest office in the land.

Personally, I think staying in when it only furthers disruption and will probably contest the convention is the lowest road I can imagine.

Captain Hate and Buckeye have been right about this guy from the beginning.

http://www.nationalreview.com/article/433054/president-obama-cuba-visit-raul-castro-criticisms-america

After listening to Cuban president Raúl Castro attack America over human rights, its trade embargo with Cuba, its “illegal occupation” of Guantanamo Bay, its “inconceivable” failure to provide free food, health-care, and social security, President Obama said that he “personally would not disagree” with his many of criticisms.

“President Castro, I think, has pointed out that in his view making sure everybody’s getting a decent education or health care, has basic security in old age, that those things are human rights as well,” Obama said. ”I personally would not disagree with that.”

“I actually welcome President Castro commenting on some of the areas where he feels we’re falling short because I think we should not be immune or afraid of criticism or discussion as well,” Obama added.

A president Trump will effectively re-brand the GOP, for good or ill. I wonder where all the more traditional conservatives will go.

I'm sure people thought Reagan would rebrand the party, and he had some influence of course: GWB was slightly to the right of his dad. But then McCain, Romney, etc.

Miss Marple 2

Trump's speech will be on shortly.

Truthbetold

Comparing Trump to Reagan is insane.

Buckeye

No surprise that Kasich got all touchy feely huggy at the end of the speech.

Miss Marple 2

Why, how interesting. Cruz is suddenly using Trump's line about us getting killed on trade deals.

Bret Baier asks him about his changing position. He says that after he saw Wikileaks info he changed his mind.

So, we have to depend on Wikileaks to get information, I guess.

Huckabee stayed in too long back in 2008.

Let it play out
Trump supporters don't want anything holding up the coronation

Both Cruz and Kasich more qualified than Trump but Donald will probably get the nomination because when all is said and done it is a popularity contest.

Miss Marple 2

Baier asks if Trump is more vulnerable on his policies or his temperment.

Meanwhile, Kasich is vulnerable on the mental health issue, if you ask me.

Miss Marple 2

Trump is giving a speech with details, which is pretty effective.

Miss Marple 2

The details he is giving make Obama sound really, really bad. The situation is really a lot worse than people realize when you hear this list of things Iran has done.

Now he's going after the United Nations as incompetent. Not a friend of democracy. Not a friend of freedom. Not a friend of Israel.

Glorifying terrorists is a barrier to peace. It will end soon, believe me.

Palestinian culture of hatred. Educational process must start and end this education of hatred.

Obama punishes our friends and rewards our enemies. Now calls Hillary a disaster at foreign policy and have treated Israel badly.
