First, natch.

Good grief. Radnor didn't have police horses last time. The only things at "risk" were Rosemont gals. (note, I lived in Bryn Mawr then).

Captain Hate

From the last thread:

Rollie Massamino was coach at my Div III alma mater waaaay back in the day. But 11 years later he won with Villanova, he looked pretty good last night.

Why shouldn't he look good? He didn't do a [Redacted] thing to earn a paycheck from Cleveland State except sit on his fat [Redacted]. He can be trapped in the same burning building as Mike Holmgren and Keith Hernandez.

Gawd, I love the smell of fulmination in the morning!

Well that covers Rollie.

What kind of mendacious hubris allows someone to say something so idiotic?
It's their in-your-face bravado of daring to tell us something they know we know they can't possible know in a world where we're lucky if they can get a rainy day two days in advance right and in which even the most biased climate science chicken little is admitting the last ~15-20 years is making mince meat of their models that is so disgusting.

It's "me or your lying eyes" as a preferred lifestyle not an ironic put down.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

Stocking up on marshmallows for November, SMOD.

Climate variability is a hallmark of entrance and exit from interglacials. If there really were 'climate maddening' instead of this propaganda in support of anthropogenic catastrophism, it would be a sign of the end of the Holocene.

I'm such a tease.

Miss Marple 2

Apparently Obama is supposed to have a statement on the economy at 12:15. I just saw on Twitter that this may include steps to prevent corporate inversions.

MM and daddy,

Re the new Viking site in Newfoundland, there is a two hour Nova tomorrow night on it. Already have the record button hit. Went to the L'Anse aux Meadows site several yrs ago. The area is about one meter higher that when they were there due to the rebound from the last ice age. Boggles my mind that they figured out how to roast the ore to make nails so they could repair their ships to go home.

Old Lurker

Henry at 11:47 nails it.

Like the story I told of my wedding of meeting a gazillion star general friend of my wife's family. The guy had been married for 50+ years so I had to ask how he had done that. His immediate answer was "I make all the major decisions and Alice makes all the minor ones. Alice gets to decide which is which."

Congress can pretend to pass the "Laws" but when the POTUS and his stooges get to write the Regs, who cares what Congress intended to law to accomplish.

Obama 1, Congress 0. Indeed.

Just heard from Steve Miller's ex that he is finally being inducted in the HOF. She was the photog during all the years she was around and a lot of her pix are going to be part of the gig.

henry

TK, at this rate we will get a player to be named later. I'm mostly interested in the SC race here.

Thomas Collins

If Cruz is so concerned, he should see whether Kasich will take the Veephood to join with Cruz against Trumpster. Kasich is going to be a real playah in Cleveland. There will be the conservative wing of the GOP maneuvering for Cruz, the Duke and Duke wing maneuvering for Kasich, and the Trump wing (the most eclectic wing) maneuvering for Trump. Cruz has run a savvy, organized campaign. I'm sure he realizes that Kasich could take the Duke and Duke delegates and cut deals with enough Trump and conservative delegates to capture the nomination on, say, the third ballot. Cruz should be smart enough to realize that Kasich is not going to be bullied out of this race. And if the current national polls are substantially the same going into Cleveland, Kasich is going to be negotiating from a position of strength.

But the room in Cleveland containing the wall on which I'd love to be a fly is the room in which the Kasich and Ryan interests spray their fizzy water at each other as they discuss who the Duke and Duke delegates will ultimately support. I think Team Kasich is going to tell Team Ryan to shove whatever deal Team Ryan is offering up where the sun don't shine. And on this issue, I'd be with Team Kasich. If pretty boy Ryan wants to swoop in at the convention, I think he needs to get his fingers dirty and run in a few primaries first.

TK, no. haven't heard that (current talk radio host was busy complaining about emails from white nationalists for Trump so I turned the radio off). Two thoughts: 1 almost all WI ballots are paper connect the line style. 2. electronic voting is an option if you ask nicely (and at my voting place they look at you like you have tentacles if you ask to vote that way). So busted polling machines have no meaning. (seriously, they would stop any voting at all).

daddy

Presidents speech just ended. Apparently American companies are fleeing the country because of our terribly high Corporate Tax Rates. So the Presidents solution is, instead of reducing our Corporate Tax Rates as an incentive to keep them from fleeing, to create new Tax Laws that prevent American Companies from fleeing the country.

And he says he is doing it for the benefit of the middle class.

I did not catch the speech but Cavuto just said that the President in the speech said "Congress is not doing their job, so I am going to do their job for them."

Hail Obama.

Captain Hate

I probably won't vote for any ticket with Kasich on it. He and his GOPe enablers need to shut it down now.

Appalled

TC:

My mother, who has voted GOP since Goldwater, loves Kasich. He benefits by having stayed out of the constant ugliness between Cruz and Trump. (This was the same game Cruz played early in the campaign -- evidently, he does not like it being deployed against him.)

If Kasich wins the nomination while sporting a pair of deuces...it's an impressive accomplishment. I don't see how that doesn't break the Republican party, because I don't see Trump going down without having a major say in the outcome, if the outcome isn't him. And I think it will be easier for Trump to accept a nominee that wasn't ever in tweet wars with him.

Miss Marple 2

Oh, I forgot to add in my post at 12:38 that this was prompted by some former Bush person on TV blatantly explaining how they planned to take it on a subsequent ballot after the first.

That's the karma now, Appalled. Put a solid conservative as the Veep and Kasich will have enough support to run a credible and very possibly a winning race against The Hill or whoever the Dems put up there. The Trump supporters who announce they are bolting were never going to vote for the GOP candidate.

MM2, we hear Stephen Moore type talk all the time before the convention. The Hill, Bernie, Deval, Liz or Joe will be a great uniter of GOPers.

James D

Presidential candidate Donald Trump’s plan to deport all undocumented immigrants would cost between $400 billion and $600 billion and take at least 20 years to implement, according to a report from the American Action Forum.

So? Let's get started!

If we'd started ten years ago, we'd be halfway done now. If we'd started 20 years ago, there'd be about 150 Democrats in the House and 40 in the Senate, and we'd be arguing about who ought to succeed President McCain.

Momto2

NK I agree that is good article on the subject.

It says, "There’s no law that says you have to stop cutting your hedges because your paranoid neighbor is suspicious of it. There’s no law that says you have to ask a person with multiple personality disorder whom he’s speaking to so you don’t shock him if you call him the wrong name.

NK @ 12:37

This is the result of endless GOP surrenders on social issues. The left calls themselves "progressives' for a reason. They never stop. They're never satisfied. There's always a new tradition to destroy, a new value to mock, a new social structure to wreck.

Miss Marple 2

Thomas Collins,

You are assuming wrong about Trump supporters.

I have voted GOP since 1980. I would be very reluctant to vote for Kasich and any conservative (since that person would be a figurehead).

You would have to force me to the polls with whips.

I do not like to reward bad behavior, which is what I think Kasich is doing.

Thomas Collins

Not going to happen, James D. And focusing on deporting 100% of illegals will simply distract from beefing up border security. In fact, it already has. My major criticism of Trump is that he has allowed politicians squishy about our sovereignty to escape scrutiny by focusing on a plan that has zero chance of happening.

Thomas Collins

I acknowledge that's your position now, MM2, that you are sincere in that position, and that many have your view. Let's see what happens after Cleveland. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. Won't be the first time. I'm on record that I think it'll be a brokered convention, that Cruz or Kasich will emerge as the nominee, and that the party will be behind the nominee. I'll take all the slings and arrows folks want to send my way if I'm wrong.

Threadkiller

Thanks, henry.

Lyle, since I don't believe the 600 billion estimate, I would guess it is still more costly to keep the crooks here.

During the invasion that Beck and Cruz hosted with "don't use the legal door" prizes, it came out that current statutes allow the Dept of State to suspend any legal entry from any country that does not take their citizens back.

This would be a very cost effective tool to shipping the crooks home.

Also, OL posted an incredible article on how many illegal drivers kill or injure US citizens and how the data gets corrupted to keep anyone from knowing the true cost to our sovereignty.

Threadkiller

...for shipping...

Miss Marple 2

http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/priebus-the-party-is-choosing-a-nominee/article/2587688

"[S]omewhere along the line, the people decided wouldn't it be a good idea if we expanded the interest here and had statewide primaries and caucuses and then we would tie the hands of the delegates for just one — just one — vote. And then after that vote, they could go back to the old way," Priebus said. "That's what's going on here."

So, these primaries which cost millions of dollars and consume all sorts of air time, paying political consultants millions as well as TV stations, it's not really about giving people a choice. It's a money-making scheme and only in years where you have a really popular candidate will the delegates vote with the primary voters.

In other words, this is all a scam.

Gee, that was a nice interview by Reince who I assume would like to have more GOP voters. Why go through all of this?

How much is paid for by the states, by the way?

matt

I went to prep school and later after I got myself thrown out, HS within 5 miles of Villanova. I was a regular at the field house and downtown at the Palestra for Big 5 BBall games. I lived and breathed Big 5 basketball.

Villanova recruited me for T&F and I used to warm up with Marty Liquori. I wore a 'Nova letter jacket for years, but in the end decided on going the New York City because Villanova was too close to home. I still have a DVD of the UCLA-'Nova game back in '71. So it is safe to say I am a huge fan.

Last night I got home from class and Querida had the game taped. The second half was one of the best halves of basketball I have seen. The ending was spectacular.

But I did notice that the coverage was all about North Carolina. All the chatter. All of the crowd shots. Michael Jordan and the NC fans.

My condolences, daddy, but the better team won out there. Both teams were awesome but sometimes fate deals you a bad hand (or a good one). Who woulda thunk those Hail Marys would have both gone in?

Momto2

I am curious as I heard this discussed on the radio yesterday. What do you think is the threshold of missing votes that would deny Trump the nomination? So he needs 1237 - if he has 1236 would the GOPe install Ryan or Kasich instead? What about 1220?

Those who were discussing on the radio opined that if he were within less than 100 votes short they would be unable to do it. Thoughts?

NK

Matt-- those late 60s-early 70s Nova track warm ups were sweeeeet looking. Champion made them, no?

PS: '71 Final 4 was HOWARD PORTER (RIP) and some guard v. UCLA

lyle

But I did notice that the coverage was all about North Carolina. All the chatter. All of the crowd shots. Michael Jordan and the NC fans.

I noticed this, too. Either the TBS or the TNT broadcast (can't remember which) also had on the score banner something about it being the NC "streaming" site. Was there another channel with the Nova "streaming"? Anyway, it was homerific for the Heels. All night. Until the end...

GUS

How much was that PORK-U-LUS (sorry Muzzlim friends) again??

They claim it will cost between $400-600 billlllllion to deport all "undocumented immigrants".

How much will it cost to get rid of ILLEGAL ALIENS??/

Threadkiller

I would think it would also depend on the gap between Trump and Cruz, Momto2.

If he is leaps and bounds ahead of the former dual citizen, I think they have a tough road giving him the boot if he is short delegates.

At the same time, most polls put the margin of error around 3 to 5%. My arbitrary pick for "close" would be the margin used by the most accurate poll leading up to the convention.

Thomas Collins

Momto2, I think that when the Carnival in Cleveland starts, Trump will have secured substantially all the delegates he'll be able to secure. So my number is 1230.

Appalled

Miss Marple:

Since the primaries have selected every candidate since 1972, I don't think you can say the primary system is a scam.

But, to be blunt about it, Trump has run a different sort of campaign against a fractured opposition that promises victory at nomination time, and defeat in November. (What is it -- 70% disapproval among women voters?) Since, at the end of the day, the RNC is about having a victory in November, wouldn't they want to direct the convention towards a candidate that does not have 70% disapproval of 51% of the population?

Trump needs show between now and convention time that he can broaden his appeal, and not offend new groups of voters. If he continues sitting steady with some of his lousy statistics, he gives the RNC cover to find ways to maneuver him out of there.

henry

Miss M, I heard that interview on my drive to work this morning. Reince was being a dimwit throughout, but he said one other important thing: the rules committee would write and modify rules for the convention. The rules committee members would be mostly Trump and Cruz delegates (based on current ratios). He also admitted that past the first vote, it was a scam (as nobody knows who these delegates are... even though they are who we vote for in reality).

Threadkiller

How is that 51% represented in the Electoral College?

GUS

Thomas, if the GOP pulls a stunt. The Gop goes he way of the WHIGS. Miss Marple is 100% correct.. I'd love to see the CANCEROUS BAG O'DOUCHE try it.
On a related note: Long ago I mentioned that TRUMP will NEVER go quietly into the "good night".

Even if CRUZ beats TRUMP, the (redacted) is going to hit the fan.

Truthbetold

Trump's goal was to create chaos.

Thomas Collins

TK, I think it's worse for Trump in the Electoral College. The late breaking feelers in the battleground states aren't likely to go for Mr. Meanie.

Now, if one thinks Trump is able to assemble a new type of coalition and we won't have a 47/47/6 electorate with the battleground state feelers deciding things, one obviously would disagree with my above analysis. But I have seen no indication that Trump is the type that can put together a new coalition that gets to 270 electoral votes.

Thomas Collins

We'll see, GUS. If you're correct and I'm off base, there's plenty of nachos and spiritous liquors awaiting you on my tab when you visit!

GUS

TC, we keep seeing these larger than ever turnouts at the primaries. I do not believe that they are in it for Cruz as much as Trump.

I do not know how to estimate their impact in the general, but we were told Romney would have won if turnout was better.

Several days ago I posted for Theo a chart on how little impact the monolithic Hispanic voting bloc has on the Electoral College. It is even worse when non-"identity first" conservative voters show up.

Sure is a crazy year so far.

Miss Marple

Appalled,

What has changed over the last few elections cycles is the rise of the Internet and social media.

Until 2000, voters were pretty compliant. The effort by Gore to steal the election was reported on Internet sites and migrated to cable and talk radio. This precipitated something that scared the heck out of the Dems, GOP voters protesting and marching with signs!

By the time 2008 came around we learned that the Dems had rigged their convention with super delegates, and that is how Hillary lost to Obama, when he got the super delegates to switch sides. That year is also when we learned that flooding the field with a bunch of candidates would get you a mediocrity like McCain, and that info came from the Internet.

We now have had 8 years of social media and blogs pots monitoring Congress and various skullduggeries. Things are way different than 1972.
Voters who acquiesced in 1976 when Reagan lost to Ford are not so gullible or ready to accept the new, improved tomato can.
