My MN friends are having a hard time. I never thought of him as a real person, more of an alien come to earth and hiding out in Chanhassen, so it's not affecting me very much, I guess.
I flip around the radio dial on the way in and just about every station is doing something about Prince - News/Talk, sports, whatever the format. I can understand '80s rock, but come on.
I go to the Weather Channel site, and they have a tribute to the guy - The Weather Channel? Seriously? Yahoo Sports - article about his 'incredible' SB halftime show - so incredible I don't remember it. If it wasn't Earf Day I'm sure Google would have some purple animation to mark the day.

OK, so TM picked Prince over Chyna as a threadstarter. No disrespect to Prince or my JOM music lover friends, but pro wrestling in my opinion is a great combination of entertainment and physical danger. Pro wrestling is certainly prearranged, but there is nothing fake about it. When a big falootin' actor or actress has someone do a physical stunt for them, that's fake. Pro wrestlers are not only the personalities, but in effect serve as their own stuntmen or stuntwomen.
Speaking of pro wrestlers, have you seen your pal Ivory recently, Man Tran? How is she doing?
Imagine if the MFM covered the news about the multimillion dollar business of selling baby body parts like they are covering Prince. :(

When they aren't covering something like Prince's demise, they occupy themselves with things like setting up this "Virtual Museum of the Obama Presidency:"
Prince never did much for me. I thought that he had found religion a couple of years ago, but I guess it didn't last, as being a Jehovah's Witness and taking opiates usually don't go together. Like MM, when he broke out, I was just reaching that stage in life where rock and roll didnt seem as impressive as a good classical or jazz solo. I know others here disagree,. As for the current employment of the phrase, "passing on" frequently shortened to just "passing" what happened to "passing away" or simply "dying? "
As far as Prince's ability to play multiple musical instruments without instruction, in my life, I have known quite a few people with that ability, and don't find it all that impressive.
Apparently Prince was known as a musician who was very opposed to streaming because it did not generate revenue for the artist, so I guess he favored property rights, so in a sense there was a tiny bit of him that was conservative.
See, I managed to find something good to say about him.
The GOP ought to be using this as a major issue. Yeah, abortion is controversial, and they're afraid of another Todd Akin situation. I get that.
But for heaven's sake, They have clear, visual proof of businesses placing orders for human body parts with abortion clinics!
If they're not willing to take a stand on the for-profit harvesting of human bodies for parts, is thre ANYTHING they are willing to stand fast on?
And if they can't craft an effective message on that topic, given the available evidence and how gruesome it is, everyone involved should turn in their resignations and let somebody else take a turn.
Apparently the lil' feller used to do the usual JW door-to-door thing just like everybody else, from what I heard on Red Eye Radio last night. Now, that would be weird.
I taped this off state run radio and just about wore the oxide off playing it (definitely put a notch in the playback head). Mack doesn't appear until near the end but Lonnie Brooks put on incredible shows at this time:
Lonnie Mack was kind of a cult figure who came out of nowhere to climb the charts with an instrumental version of Memphis and promptly disappeared from the public eye again. He was very influential on what became Southern Rock.

Man Tran, I was too shocked from being in the presence of such neat people when we met up that I forgot to ask if there's any insider knowledge on what Sable is like. I remember the first time I saw her with Mark Meno before she had her fun bags cranked up and thinking "[Redacted], who is that?" Just absolutely gorgeous. I saw recently that she got hitched to Brock Lesnar which seems to have "train wreck" written all over it although I hope I'm wrong.
He was played by the same guy from the crying game.
I thought he looked familiar.
The Crying Game was such a weak movie. People actually didn't know the "secret" from the very beginning? Maybe I was tipped to it because I'd just seen a Hong Kong movie starring a tranny character the week before.
I was never a big Prince fan but I didn't actively dislike him either. I do remember back in the early VH1 and MTV music video heydays watching a Prince vid where he simulated ejaculation from the headstock of his guitar. No, I don't have any idea why I can recall that stunt...
The move will likely boost Democrats’ chances of winning Virginia, a crucial swing state, in the November election. Hillary Clinton, to whom McAuliffe is a longtime ally, is likely to be the Democratic nominee for president.
In case you harbored any doubts as to the motivation behind this.
Felons back on the voting roles is going to go national. Watch for the felon Jesse Jackson Jr. to emerge as one of the champions of this scam. The groundwork was laid while he was in prison.
And even though the Republicans hold the majority in both houses of the VA legislature, I'm sure there will be absolutely nothing they can do to stop this.
Hillary will be President, and the Dems will take the Senate, and the country will continue to disintegrate.
There’s no question that we’ve had a horrible history in voting rights as relates to African-Americans–we should remedy it,” McAuliffe said Thursday ahead of the announcement, according to the New York Times. “We should do it as soon as we possibly can.”
Isn't it kinda RACIST to suggest that all these felons are black?
Does anyone ever notice or care it's always the Dems who are behind these felons voting? I once worked as a volunteer in our elections office. Just before an election we were inundated with new voter registrations. We discovered they were all incarcerated and a local official with the D party had gone into the jail and registered everyone who was not already registered. He delivered these in a container like you use for bulk mail.
Fortunately, our elections supervisor did not take these at face value and each one had to be checked to see if they were legal. If they were convicted of a felony and still on probation etc. they were not allowed to vote. I heard later the guy took his cause before a judge and stated the ones who had not yet been tried should still vote. I think they let them vote a provisional ballot which would be kept in a "lockbox" until their court date and would then be counted or not. Of course, the election would be over by this time.
I really liked that lady but realized that many counties may have had workers who were too lazy to do all of that checking.
Beyond this report, I don't know any details. My hope is that this is a desperation throw of the dice by McThief to bail out Hilligula based on HIS OWN staff's 'legal conclusion' that he has the power under the Va Constitution. Why do I think that analysis may be BS and the Courts will enjoin this act of tyranny. McThief should have a rendezvous with a lamp post in richmond.
I'm going to a show tonight and it wouldn't surprise me if they did a Prince cover tune. One of the band members was way ahead of his time, having filmed a music video in a ladies room way back before the enlightened years that began on 01-20-09. (The video has a Larry Craig reference)
McAwful is scum. When the idiots elected him, thanks in part to the RINOs bailing on Cooch, it confirmed every negative thing I'd thought of that [Redacted] state.
Speaking of race, my nephew (the guy you want as a coder ManTran) recently did one of the DNA tests that identify your ethnic makeup.
Since his dad is 100% Sicilian and showed up as 50% of his ethnic makeup, the rest of the results I can take to the bank.
Not only did it confirm my Native American ancestors that daddy discovered, but I find that I am 4% African. The rest was as expected, mostly Northern European Heinz 57.
Maybe I am related to Thomas Jefferson:)
I will be applying to teach 1 class at Harvard, and with my pedigree, won't settle for less than $500K/year. Lizzy Warren has nothin' on me!
I taught our two American Eskimo dogs to jump in my lap when I was sitting by spreading my legs and telling them, "c'mon, I'm giving you the Larry Craig wide stance." As soon as one of them leapt onto my lap I'd close my legs and give them my patented "puppy massage." (Use your best Brit accent on those two words.) It got a little complicated when they'd both leap at the same time.
The Hogan and Hartson memo is beyond obnoxious. The entire context of the Va Constitution is the Governor's right to use the 'pardon' power in individual cases. The EO application to a 200,000 class of felons is a gross violation of the Constitution fundamental separation of powers. And the finnal graph in the memo betrays it's obnoxious power grab: 'consistent with growing consensus in the Nation..." 2 states permit felons to vote, 2 fucking states is some consensus. FUCK YOU appalled you degenerate.
Can't wait for you to start posting all your native American recipes, Buckeye.
I better get busy learning them:)
The son of my grandmother's (where all this mixed ancestry comes from) little sister is offering to take Mrs. Buckeye and I to become acquainted with his family in Eastern Tennessee.
If they can cook as well as my Grandma, I am sure I will have a great opportunity to pick up some good recipes.
I do know how to skin squirrel and rabbit and clean fish, is that a start?
So you are an expert on the Virginia separation of powers? I am a little tired of the casual use of expletives used because you don't like the message. It's hardly my fault the GOP has decided to self-destruct this year, and is leaving the local populace angry and hollow eyed, and more inclined to jeremiads...
Look, I am just using Google here, like most of us, and I don't know the law firm. (Georgia. Non-lawyer) I picked this memo, rather than the ACLU one from 2013 because it went back further (2005). It does seem there is a history of the governor using this part of the VA Constitution for easing the felons don't vote provisions. that predates Terry
If the Virginia legislature has a case -- they will sue.
I think McAwful should be one of those felons having their voting rights restored.
However I'm guessing the Dems net about 6 votes out of 200,000 ex felon black dudes, with the choice of screeching, white trash Hillbilly Clinton as their savior.
Nick Price, Gary Player and Ernie Els are Africans also:)
Good company for sure;)
I have a sneaky suspicion that my "mixed" ancestry had everything to do with a serious shortage of women folk back in the 1600/1700s out in the lonely frontier land.
If nothing else, this long campaign has revealed what a pile of RINO [Redacted] Kasich is to the rest of the country.
Speaking of pests, I was accosted by somebody getting ballot signatures in front of the library. The first was some "clean energy" waste of money; I let him get a couple sentences out before saying "not interested". He quickly flipped over his clipboard and barely got the words "medical marijuana" out when I just said "No" and turned away. He said "it will happen anyway" to which I responded "then I guess you don't really need my signature" which a bystander apparently found amusing.
Perhaps lawyers here can comment, but a legal opinion by some law firm sought out by an activist organization to support its mission is hardly dispositive. An actual legal case, decided by a judge, would have some weight, but an opinion is worth about the paper it's written on.
Good for you Captain
I thought the marijuana cause was already decided.

McAuliffe may have to run his plan past the Supreme Court.
Is t no felons voting settled law?

One positive thought _If Hil gets referred to JP then Dems are stuck with Bernie as the nominee.

I love that Hildebeast just can't put him away.

jimmyk-- Hogan and Hartson has historically been the DNC in exile. This was a plot to steal close elections years in the making. Separation of Powers mean nothing and Govs/POTUS are deemed sovereigns because the courts interpret constitutions as suggested by the shameless shills.
jimmyk is certainly right that an opinion of counsel that is a thinly disguised advocacy piece is hardly definitive. It is more like a brief than a court ruling.
That having been said, I think that H&H is a respected enough law firm that one can say with some certainty that the position they stake out is not affirmatively bat guano crazy. Our good friend NK may have overreacted a bit to Appalled's posting of this memo.
I do not know whether the governor of Virginia can issue some sort of edict that restores voting rights en masse to the state's convicted felons. But apparently there is at least a colorable argument that he can do so. I would suspect, as with so many legal arguments, the outcome depends on what judge or tribunal makes the decision.
It's hardly my fault the GOP has decided to self-destruct this year, and is leaving the local populace angry and hollow eyed, and more inclined to jeremiads...
Actually, it kind of is. It's the fault of people who counsel moderation at every turn, who advise the GOP to never fight, to never stand on any principle, to surrender on immmigration, on the budget, on social issues, on everything, until it's clear to everyone that it stands for nothing.
My MN friends are having a hard time. I never thought of him as a real person, more of an alien come to earth and hiding out in Chanhassen, so it's not affecting me very much, I guess.

I don't think I've ever read anything as stupid. I think I lost a few IQ points just from reading it.

And even though the Republicans hold the majority in both houses of the VA legislature, I'm sure there will be absolutely nothing they can do to stop this.
Hillary will be President, and the Dems will take the Senate, and the country will continue to disintegrate.
Thanks so much for nothing, GOP.

My FB feed is all Prince today. Oh, the crowd at First Ave last night sang Purple Rain in harmonious unity! Oh, the IDS tower is lit up purple!
Why do people lose their minds over the death of celebrities? It's embarrassing.

lyle, NK, I guess I take some comfort in the notion that they actually think they need help in VA.

Posted by: Porchlight | April 22, 2016 at 12:47 PM

Larry Craig!

An actual legal case, decided by a judge, would have some weight, but an opinion is worth about the paper it's written on.

jimmyk is certainly right that an opinion of counsel that is a thinly disguised advocacy piece is hardly definitive.

Actually, it kind of is. It's the fault of people who counsel moderation at every turn, who advise the GOP to never fight, to never stand on any principle, to surrender on immmigration, on the budget, on social issues, on everything, until it's clear to everyone that it stands for nothing.
