Obama and Merkel were talking up the Trans-Atlantic trade deal still being negotiated. The Times includes this bit of weirdness:
Yet even as he expressed confidence that a deal would be reached this year, Mr. Obama acknowledged that “time is not on our side,” and he offered a thinly veiled warning that a deal could be doomed if politicians like Hillary Clinton, who opposes the accord, are elected this year.
“If we don’t complete negotiations this year, then upcoming political transitions in the United States and Europe could mean this agreement won’t be finished for quite some time,” Mr. Obama said, not mentioning Mrs. Clinton, his former secretary of state, directly.
I haven't checked but I will go out on a limb and guess that Bernie Sanders does not support this deal either. I mean, obvi - if he supported it Hillary would too, right?
And what other politicians might Obama or the Times have in mind? Does Trump support this deal being negotiated by non artist of the deal Obama? Does Cruz?
Hmm, Kasich probably does support it, since he is a predictable Chamber of Commerce Republican. Is Obama backing Kasich then? On this one issue, probably yes.
Obama craves a legacy of something besides destruction. He's too arrogant to earn one though.

Obama's legacy will certainly be that he ripped the cover off the idea that we are a nation of laws derived from the the Constitution and protected by all the checks and balances therein. Now if enough of the public is aghast at that, then corrections might be made in time to salvage that basic idea. If, however, a critical mass of our neighbors, legal or not, decide to eat the goose instead, well then Obama's legacy will be to have accelerated the process which took the Romans 300 years to accomplish, wrapping it all up in about 1/3 of that time.

Rush had an interesting take on Kasich today. He said when he saw him shooting off a confetti cannon after winning *his own state* he realized this is all about him living out his fantasy.
He said, "Who shoots off a confetti cannon like that? It's used for things like the Super Bowl. He was expected to win Ohio. It was no big feat." He mentioned him vetting potential V.P. candidates.
He said he expects he will find a way to hold his own version of an inaugural ball before it's all over.
Now he's made a pact with Cruz but less than 24 hours later he's telling people to still vote for him over Cruz???

Dave (inMA),
I have a great story about Teddy in which resulted in me having lunch with him privately at the MassPort Trade Center. He needed to avoid the press cagle at our briefing on getting contracts in Kuwait for the oil field restoration. But it turns out he wanted to avoid the press cagle in re his nephew's arrest down in the Palm Beach compound. It turns out that it was actually about some minimum wage legislation at the time. My memory is stil a little fuzzy about the actual legislation but he didn't want to talk about it.
He was able to commandeer that club/restaurant at the trade center for a private lunch though. You know he drinks his lunch, right?

The odd thing is that if you listen to liberals talk (a pain, I know) they are surprisingly disappointed in Obama. The way they see it, his one accomplishment, Obamacare, was a muddled mess from the beginning (they are right about that) and does not, in their opinion, advance the ball sufficiently towards the real goal of single payer health care. They think Obama sold out to the drug companies and insurance carriers to get the bill passed and it is now a steaming mess that they want repealed and replaced as much as we do (but with a different "replacement.") They see the stimulus as too small and too wasteful (they are half right) and his foreign policy as well intentioned but chaotic.
He still hovers around 50% approval however. LIVs and minorities for the most part, who like the symbolism and the "tone" of this administration. But political activists of all stripes think that he has been a failure.

How come I pay the same rate to my public utility when their service is good or when it is awful?
Last year it was off for a week because a giant fire burned up their power lines...said fire being started by a blown transformer on their power lines which, as noted, was burnt up by the fire they set.

Charles Payne to Katherine Herridge on the latest on the Hillary E-Mails:
Charles: Hillary's E-Mail scandal will not go away...Catherine, first I'd like you to tell us about something called "a Damage Assessment" of Hillary's E-Mails.
Catherine Herridge: Thats right Charles. A senior House Lawmaker told FOX News that there's no question in his mind that the Intelligence Community is doing Damage Assessments after more than 2,100 Clinton E-Mails were identified containing Classified Information. Right here (in my hand) I have something called The Code Of Federal Regulations. It is the roadmap for Government Employees who handle Classified Information. And it specifically states that if Classified Information is lost, compromised, or outside a secure Government Network, in this case like a personal E-Mial Server, there is a requirement, a mandatory requirement, to do "a Damage Assessment" to figure out whether sources and methods were compromised, what kind of disciplinary action should be taken, and separate from that, whether it amounts to a Criminal Activity, and whether there has to be coordination with the Justice department. So this is a very serious matter, and the bottom line is that there's really no wiggle room on this, the Code of Regulations is clear. When Classified Information is outside of these Channels they have to do these Damage Assessments.
Charles: So when they do these damage assessments and they find some things that may have legal implications, who makes the call on that?
Catherine Herridge: The thing that we found interesting in our reporting Charles, is that we went to a group at the National Archives, which is the repository for all the Government Records. This is a Security Component inside of it, and we asked them whether they would comment on the status of any Damage Assessment, and they said to us that they are not involved in the Assesments because the Department of Justice is in the lead on this, and they've been cut out of the process, so again thats another Data-point or thread that takes us back to the FBI Investigation.
Charles: Thanks.

Well, I just heard another case of regulations helping destroy normal business activity. My old shop, which is in a death spiral due to the mismanagement of its new corporate owners, is now requiring its vendors to fill out a mountain of paper to prove that they are not in any way using materials derived from hell holes in Africa (I think the Congo, specifically). So two vendors so far, one a local metal fabricator and another, a power supply manufacturer, both vendors for 25-30 yrs, have specifically replied with FU, not playing that game.

The message was directed at Christopher Rhoden Jr, 16, who was slayed along with seven relatives in a spree of shootings across four rural locations in Pike County on Friday.
Far be it for me to be the pedantic schoolteacher here about anything having to do with proper writing, but ain't the proper term slain?
I would have thought so, but since he was slayed in Pike County, maybe it goes back to that old Mark Twain intro of Huck Finn:
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain
Mark Twain

BY ORDER OF THE AUTHOR,
Per G.G., Chief of Ordnance.
EXPLANATORY
IN this book a number of dialects are used, to wit: the Missouri negro dialect; the extremest form of the backwoods Southwestern dialect; the ordinary "Pike County" dialect; and four modified varieties of this last. The shadings have not been done in a hap- hazard fashion, or by guesswork; but painstakingly, and with the trustworthy guidance and support of personal familiarity with these several forms of speech.
I make this explanation for the reason that without it many readers would suppose that all these characters were trying to talk alike and not succeeding.
THE AUTHOR.
I'm guessing "slayed" is one o' them 4 modified varieties.

daddy,
Come on. You a guy who flys into Standsted and billets in Cambridge and don't understand the British use of Slay versus killed or murdered? I am surprised.
I am still waiting for any relationship to the enrichment plant located in Piketon. Now that it is on the map it may attract a more undesireable element, if you get my drift.

SBW,
I was hoping that as a guy somewhat familiar with the Newspaper bidness, you might be able to provide some insight on the proper word to use when describing illegal alien, undocumented, Sanctuary seeking Mexican, international Drug-Cartel, Narco-Terrorists, blowing the brains out of 8 Pike County hillbilly truck driving pot growers---But if not you, who?

All of this, racial divide, economic stagnancy, lies about employment, gay flag white house, ISIS, terrorism at home, unfettered illegals, sancutuary cities, un-approved treaties, apology tours, NASA Muzztlim outreach, Fast and Furious, the IRS 501{C} scandal, BENGHAZI, federal take over of student loans, school lunches, Air Force 1 buzzing Manhattan. I could go on for hours.
Obamacare, children being INCLUDED on PARENTS healthcare until age 27.
We have allowed it.
The military is dwindling, and Russia is kicking us in the balls. We've apologized to Cuba, and give Iran free reign to do as it chooses. We allowed OUR DRONE to be captured by Iran and did not SELF DESTRUCT it. JAMES TAYLOR was our emissary to PARIS after a MUZZTARD SLAUGHTER.
WE.......have allowed this. The GOPe STILL EXPECTS US TO BACK THEM.
I could go on for hours. Obama wants MEN, FULL GROWN, MEN to be allowed to use THE LADIES BATHROOM, because they are PRETENDING to be Women.
And we TAKE it. The GOP has done NOTHING.

But if not you, who?
Sh*t, daddy, don’t look at me. I’m the kind of guy who would have said, “But if not you, whom?” and my wife says you are right.

Jack,
Knight is still a big deal to IU basketball fans and alumni. He is missed tremendously, not only for the winning record he had but for giving the press hell in press conferences.
He has not made a public appearance in this state since he was fired by Miles Brand. He wouldn't even appear at the anniversary appearance of the last NCAA IU championship team, even though people begged him.
So this appearance with Trump is a Big Deal. Really big. It will affect a lot of people. Cruz supporters in this state are very disappointed they didn't get Knight.
