You'd think a mushy big Frog company not exactly famous for sporty cars would make a mess of a place like Mas but instead they produced perhaps Maserati's greatest road car; the Bora.

I think they did their cars out of necessity. After the war there was a shortage of cars and I think they were prohibited from making planes.

So, they cobbled together those cars out of what was left in the factories, and they were sort of practical with the roads full of rubble and stuff (easy to dodge around things).

My opinion is the same as it is on homosexuality. We are not asked to not discriminate. We are commanded to approve, eventually through force of law and not a law passed by the legislative bodies of our republic but by appointed, unaccountable judges and the administrative state.
Moreover, it has very little to do with equal rights and very much to do with breaking down social norms to replace Western Civ with New Left civ.

Carlos Slim's manipulative lying frauds being exposed? Good way to start the week.

Serious question: With Reince Priebus exhibiting reasonably good leadership in urging the party to unify behind Trump, do the towel folders risk looking like petulent babies if not traitorous quislings by not jumping on board, not that self awareness has ever been their strong suit?

Miss Marple 2

Captain Hate,

I really have no idea.

One thing occurred to me this morning, and that is why we need a strong personality running and winning.

Obama is staying in Washington until the youngest daughter graduates from Sidwell Friends. That means he will be giving numerous speeches, holding meetings, and generally doing his "community organizing" on a larger scale.

Trump is the only guy we have who can wrest the spotlight form him and put him in his place. None of the others would have been able to do it.

Scathing attack on Bill Kristol by David Horowitz:

http://www.breitbart.com/2016-presidential-race/2016/05/15/bill-kristol-republican-spoiler-renegade-jew/

Captain Hate

Miss Marple, Zippy will never leave the spotlight willingly even if everybody, including the diehards of his own party, end up hating him. He wIll end up being a huge problem for the donks, much worse than Carter. That's why your point on Trump's outsized personality is the right fit for the situation. I know that I might sound like an idiot for saying this but I think that because 404 has debased the political culture so much, a Baby Huey wrecking ball like Trump is what the times call for more so than a more timid albeit statesmanlike candidate.

Jack is Back!

Our government in one anecdote:

The Sierra Club and the U. S. Forest Service were presenting an alternative to
the Wyoming ranchers for controlling the coyote population.

It seems that after years of the ranchers using the tried and true method of
shooting or trapping the predators, the Sierra Club had a "more humane" solution
to this issue. What they were proposing was for the animals to be captured
alive. The males would then be castrated and let loose again. This was ACTUALLY
proposed by the Sierra Club and by the U. S. Forest Service. All of the
ranchers thought about this amazing idea for a couple of minutes.

Finally an old fellow wearing a big cowboy hat in the back of the conference
room stood up, tipped his hat back and said ..."Son, I don't think you
understand our problem here. These coyotes ain't fuckin' our sheep ... they're
eatin' 'em!"

The meeting never really got back to order.

Miss Marple 2

Captain Hate,

I said it before: Trump is a weapon.

The times choose the man, and such are our times. Do I wish we had a Winston Churchill or Ronald Regan? Of course, but it is always useful to remember they were men forged by the times that they lived in, and their stature came from how they behaved after being in office and confronting their foes.

Churchill took over as PM after the disaster of Neville Chamberlain. Reagan came into office after the disaster of Jimmy Carter. Both would probably not have been allowed the reins of power if their predecessors hadn't been such abject failures. When I voted for Reagan, my exact thought (as a then-democrat) was that he could not do a worse job and at least he wouldn't be embarrassing.

This is where the country is right now. Eight years of demoralizing and destructive actions by Obama and the democrats have left us worse off than under Carter.

It's a risk to go with Trump, but Hillary is a certain disaster. There is much to be said for having a president who will get the less-informed to pay attention to what's going on, to motivate them to get to work, to feel like they have the possibility of success.

I am hoping that this campaign will see the turn of the nation towards its heritage and potential. It's awfully late in the game, but there still is a chance.

Captain Hate

I'm sad to see Kristol, a person I admire a great deal, fall victim to such blinkered thinking. Btw the Breitbart site is an absolute train wreck to read on an iPad. God knows how many sponsor links they throw at a browser.

Janet S.

Insty links this Trump hit piece in the Weekly Standard - For Who? For What?
http://www.weeklystandard.com/for-who-for-what/article/2002381

IT is so sad to read. The same questions could be asked about voting for an old guard, status quo, placid, go-along-to-get-along, Republican. For who? For what?

a few bits - "Understand that the term "Trump supporters" now includes not just the alt-right and the KKK, but every Republican officeholder who has endorsed Trump."

???

"To endorse Donald Trump is to make your political career hostage to a man who may, at any random moment, accuse a former president of treason. Or encourage his supporters to physically assault their opponents. Or spin wild conspiracy theories, or tell obvious lies, or praise murderous dictators."

This sounds like a description of Hillary Clinton and President Obama!

He ends with bringing up Akin. I think his point being that if Republicans were smart enough to drop Akin they should be smart enough to drop Trump.

"Yet Republicans ran from Akin as if he had the plague. Mitt Romney and Roy Blunt abandoned him. So did Scott Brown in his Massachusetts race and Ron Johnson in Wisconsin. The National Republican Senatorial Committee not only stopped spending in Akin's race, but went so far as to issue a press release highlighting calls for Akin to drop out."

That just amplifies the loser quality of the OLD GUARD to me. It reinforces my support for Trump.

"Trump Ex-Girlfriend Blasts NY Times Anti-Trump 'Hit Piece' "

http://insider.foxnews.com/2016/05/16/trump-ex-girlfriend-rowanne-brewer-lane-blasts-new-york-times-anti-trump-hit-piece

Miss Marple 2

Captain Hate,

The "turning on their own" thing is something that has plagued the GOP as long as I can remember. Why they behave this way when they have the concrete example of the democrats, who NEVER disavow a candidate and even went up to applaud Clinton after he was impeached! It is why democrats are successful. They do not have this "perfect must be the enemy of the good (or in their case, evil)" attitude.

I am sure a lot of democrats cringe over statements made by Barbara Boxer or Elijah Cummings, but it doesn't matter one bit as far as getting party and voter support. They remained in office and rack up seniority and national influence.

Kristol is a constant mischief-maker going back to when he was Quayle's chief-of-staff.
He's supportive of the GOP until a candidate or president emerges whom he cannot really influence. Then the attacks begin.

Captain Hate

Yes, Janet's pastes made me read the whole thing which is a mishmash of hot garbage. For starters, the guy whom Last approvingly quotes was somebody instrumental in the Philthadelphia Phanbase attaining a certain level of deranged insanity; and it's downhill from there.

James D

Janet @ 8:04

Great post, and i agree completely.

The thing about Akin, which the party leaders and pundits seem to forget is, even after they abandoned and shunned him and handed the seat over to the Dems without a fight, the MSM and the Dems STILL used him to tar every other Republican across the country.

This is what they don't get. SURRENDER DOES NOT WORK!

The ONLY thing that works is punching back, and we are seeing it with Trump.

The lesson that the party leaders would have us learn from Akin is that GOP candidates must be completely perfect and on message and never, ever, ever make a misstatement or error or fall for a trick question, ever. Which would be great if we had a factory turning out replicants that the GOP could run in races across the country.

But since they're stuck with fallable human beings, who are inevitably going to make mistakes when they are giving ten speeches and interviews a day, seven days a week during the campaign, there needs to be a better strategy for those inevitable mistakes than "throw them to the wolves so they don't drag the whole party down."

buccaneer morgan

He thinks the empire for instance was in the right.

Captain Hate

The dysfunctional opportunism of the GOP is illustrated by Huelskamp, who I'm sure is a perfectly nice person with whom I'd agree with on almost everything. He states he can't support Trump because he's all over the place on pro life issues. Meanwhile the RINO herd was stampeded to reject Akin because he articulated, albeit painfully awkwardly, a pro life position.

IMO the GOP lies to the pro lifers every four years about their intentions to adhere to what's in the party platform. It's a little strange to use that against a party outsider.

Here is Akin interview....if you've never heard the whole thing - http://fox2now.com/2012/08/19/the-jaco-report-august-19-2012/

pt. 1 is 8:40 min.
pt. 2 is 9:46 min. (has abortion questions starting at about 2:10. the interviewer doesn't even flinch at the supposedly "big, awful, worse-than-anything-ever" statement)

The very first question is about the federal government being involved in school lunches!...kinda timely with the transgender blackmail going on now. Hah!

the second question is about the federal government's involvement in student loans. Also timely. Akin is spot on addressing the problem.

at the end of pt. 2 he talks about federal taxes, red tape, & uncertainty of laws in inhibiting small/medium businesses.

Anyway...if I just heard that one interview of Todd Akin...I'd vote for him for POTUS! Hah!

It is beyond sickening that such a brouhaha was made in the MFM about this interview & that Republicans bought into it....& STILL buy into it.

Miss Marple 2

Gus,

Agree with you that a lot of the people now at Breitbart have departed from the founder's vision. I think for Bannon it's a money-making template, nothing more.

However, Horowitz's article is important. He knows connections and relationships, and has known Kristol for many years.

I have watched Kristol push Colin Powell for president, then switch to McCain. Once Bush became president, he switched to sniping at him at every opportunity, and used to meet with McCain people regularly for strategizing. I personally think he helped engineer the Jeffords Jump. He only let up after 9/11.

For some reason he likes to see himself as a power broker and gets a kick out of throwing a wrench in the works whenever possible. This third-party push is nothing but trouble-making because he didn't have the influence that he thought he did.

I posted the article because of the author, not because of the site.

Captain Hate

By trying to help Queef Diane extricate herself from her Benghazi "problem", the MFM made a strategic error by deep sixing McCarthy's future in the GOPe hierarchy as it moved up a click with the departure of OrangeDrank.

The addled minds writing all those scary stories about Mr. Trump are like mean nannies who tell their charges horrible monster stories to keep them in line.

I listened again yesterday to Cruz's interaction with Hannity, when Cruz accused Hannity of showing favoritism toward Mr. Trump, an accusation that Hannity took great exception to. Cruz seemed obsessed by Trump, he could not stop talking about him, and he said that the Trump campaign was a bunch of amateurs who don't know the first thing about winning elections ...

Another useful aspect of the Trump success is to separate out the patriots from the clean togas among the pundit class. I will keep a list to remember, with Horowitz, Taranto, Spengler, et al in one column, Will, Treacher, Kristol, Cost, et al on the other. cheerleader,

I will be interested to see how Trump handles the traditional GOTV effort. So far, it seems to me he has done well getting his people to the polls using social media and rallies.

I don't know if this will transfer to the general or not, although it does seem to me that Trump voters are exceptionally motivated.

GOTV (calls, door-knocking, driving people to the polls) has traditionally been the way things have been done. It's labor intensive, needing an army of volunteers.

Cruz had a very well-organized ground game, by all accounts. It didn't seem to make much difference, though. I am sure he is frustrated that all of his hard work and planning came to naught.

It was his bad luck to be the expert at a technique that was (possibly) suddenly made irrelevant.
