The WaPo gets a leaked version of the upcoming IG report into Hillary's private email server:
State Dept. inspector general report sharply criticizes Clinton’s email practices
By Rosalind S. Helderman and Tom Hamburger May 25 at 10:18 AM
The State Department’s independent watchdog has issued a highly critical analysis of Hillary Clinton’s email practices while running the department, concluding that she failed to seek legal approval for her use of a private email server and that department staff would not have given its blessing because of the “security risks in doing so.”
The inspector general, in a long awaited review obtained Wednesday by The Washington Post in advance of its publication, found that Clinton’s use of private email for public business was “not an appropriate method” of preserving documents and that her practices failed to comply with department policies meant to ensure federal record laws are followed.
The report says she should have printed and saved her emails during her four years in office or surrendered her work-related correspondence immediately upon stepping down in February 2013. Instead, Clinton provided those records in December 2014, nearly two years after leaving office.
The report found that a top Clinton aide was warned in 2010 that the system may not properly preserve records but dismissed those worries, indicating that the system had passed legal muster. But the inspector general said it could not show evidence of a review by legal counsel.
IANAL and someone can doublecheck but when I looked recently my conclusion was that these [the record-keeping stuff, not the handling classified info stuff] are administrative, not criminal violations. Utter disdain for the FOIA, for example, earns a dressing-down from one's supervisor or a federal judge, not fines or imprisonment. Back to the WaPo:
The new report focuses on record keeping and how Clinton and previous secretaries of state have maintained documents regarding public business. She has said she complied with laws requiring the preservation of documents, including emails, because she emailed other government officials at their official accounts, knowing their emails would be retained on public servers.
However, she has not explained how she intended emails sent to private citizens, who did not use government email, to be preserved. Some emails have emerged, particularly from Clinton’s first months in office in 2009 when her aides have said she was transitioning technology, that she did not provide to the State Department.
ERRATA: This is from the FOIA, section 4:
(F) Whenever the court orders the production of any agency records improperly withheld from the complainant and assesses against the United States reasonable attorney fees and other litigation costs, and the court additionally issues a written finding that the circumstances surrounding the withholding raise questions whether agency personnel acted arbitrarily or capriciously with respect to the withholding, the Special Counsel shall promptly initiate a proceeding to determine whether disciplinary action is warranted against the officer or employee who was primarily responsible for the withholding. The Special Counsel, after investigation and consideration of the evidence submitted, shall submit his findings and recommendations to the administrative authority of the agency concerned and shall send copies of the findings and recommendations to the officer or employee or his representative. The administrative authority shall take the corrective action that the Special Counsel recommends.
(G) In the event of noncompliance with the order of the court, the district court may punish for contempt the responsible employee, and in the case of a uniformed service, the responsible member.
I guess a contempt of court finding could result in jail time but it is still not a felony, as best I know. Still, what a weird Hillary defense - she broke the law but the penalties are minor, so what's the big deal? Uhh, she broke the law? And now wants to be Chief Executive?
TO BE CLEAR: I am focusing on the record-keeping violations, not the potential mishandling of classified information.

"KIDS or GOATS."
Both, of course. And polygamy.
I've heard recent rumblings again about "de-stigmatizing" underage relations. Very disturbing.
And getting back to my original comment, I think we may be in for some shocking news about some in the GOPe. Even some of those who we wouldn't think would be corrupt or even those who are the "leaders" of GOP philosophy. (I don't mean to suggest pedophilia specifically, just corruption of all kinds - so who knows, it could be anything.)
I've always figured most of the corrupt are Dems. I still do. It just may be the case that there are more corrupt Repubs than I was willing to admit.

Oh, and for those who asked yesterday--update on my momma.
BLF--please keep those prayers a comin.'
Discharged Tuesday afternoon in sinus rhythm after cardioversion Monday; got some real food--my sister had grilled a feast of seafood and brought her a plate and some sleep in her won bed.
Til 2, when she awoke short of breath--again. So back in the ER by 9:30 to be sent home around one , but my brother texted me that she was not in any shape to do that--her breathing was still labored. A few phone calls later, she gets admitted--(Medicare will NOT pay for these hospital readmissions, stupidly thinking it's the hospitals' or physicians' neglect that got these "bounce backs" back) (Not saying that had a thing to do with the doctor's decision making process here...but I did mention I was aware of that to the ER doc).
I didn't necessarily mean for her to get readmitted either; just back to a respiratory rate under 20 before they sent her home. Hers was 40.
ANYWAY--at 10 pm, she was transferred to ICU from her room as she was back in a fib at 140-170. They got her slowed down with an infusion. She slept.
So, they'll try a new drug, I am thinking...

Buckeye, she may get a pacer in the end, if she can't tolerate the drug effects, or find one that helps her out.
They can ablate (zap) the conduction spot between the upper and lower chambers of the heart (AV node) to keep the ultra fast stuff from above (atrial rate--a fib) coming through to the bottom (ventricle).
Almost always, the ventricular rate on it's own though is too slow, so a pacemaker is needed to get that nice 70-80 rate that works so well for most people.

It's coming. Probably polygamy first, though, as that's an easier argument for the progs to make now that the idea of marriage being defined as between one man and one woman is out the window.
If one man and one man is now a marriage, or one woman and one woman, then logically why shouldn't one man and two women, or two women and three men, be a legal marriage, too? That's where they'll be going next.

Apparently #Nevertrump has moved on to its next stage: discussing the actual murder of Trump...
(via Insty)
Appearing on Beck’s radio program this morning, (Author Brad) Thor said:
I am about to suggest something very bad. It is a hypothetical I am going to ask as a thriller writer.
With the feckless, spineless Congress we have, who will stand in the way of Donald Trump overstepping his constitutional authority as President? If Congress won’t remove him from office, what patriot will step up and do that if, if, he oversteps his mandate as president, his constitution-mandated authority as president, I should say.
If he oversteps that, how do we get him out of office? And I don’t think there is a legal means available. I think it will be a terrible, terrible position the American people will be in to get Trump out of office, because you won’t be able to do it through Congress.
Beck responded, “I would agree with you on that.”

Great link, MM!
Here's another reason Trump is resonating with a lot of people:
Yeah, you read it right. American lives are more important than those of our enemies. Infinitely more important. One dead GI or a hundred dead Japanese in 1945? Easy. Save the U.S. soldier. I wouldn’t even break a sweat making that call.
It's true in peacetime, too. One American worker is more important than a hundred Chinese (or Mexican, or whoever) peasants looking to raise themselves out of poverty.
All men are not brothers, and we elect a government to protect our interests, not anyone else's. If others can benefit, too, that's great, but I want Americans to come first for our President and our Congress.

Going to the cemetary today with flags and poppies for my dad and uncle:
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
Been there, to Ypres for Last Call. Very moving. If ever in Belgium or French Flanders, well worth the detour.

For inquiring minds,I finished Rita Coolidge's book last night. It was short and sweet and very matter of fact. She was grounded in a loving family, two feisty grandmothers, parents and siblings. Her marriage to Kristofferson was during his heavy drinking and "Outlaw" period,so it was rocky. The only person she has harsh words for is her former mother-in-law.
My impression is that she has tried to live her life without angst and drama, unlike others. (Joni Mitchell and Carly Simon come to mind.)
Now I have to read a serious book. : )

James,
That was wishful thinking on my part. I wouldn't want you to get ruined by DC.
Posted by: Gentlejim | May 26, 2016 at 09:42 AM
JamesD,
That's an interesting observation. I think I am the same way.
I don't think people realize how much courage it takes to run for office. Years ago, when my son was in high school, I got embroiled in a neighborhood controversy.
Our high school's swim team had a coach who got hired as the subdivision swim team coach and pool manager. He wanted to have non-subdivision kids allowed on the team so they could get summer practice for the winter swim schedule.
The kids would only have been at the pool during swim team practice. It was a harmless thing that didn't cost anyone any money and was a good way to help the school.
I had to speak in support of it. My gosh, some of the homeowners acted like we were going to bus in thousands of vagrants to swim in the pool. It got very ugly and people threatened us. Scared me to death.
So I always try to remember that when I get exasperated at some of the politicos. They are doing something I couldn't do. (Especially because I tend to cry when I get angry, which is NOT a good look.)
However, I also would never promise something I couldn't deliver, which is the source of my frustration with DC.

One of my favorite thoughts about history and how things might have been different is this...what if all those cousins, the Kaiser, the Czar, the King, had gathered for Christmas dinner and had a political food fight to clear the air. Of course,Victoria had married off her daughters and granddaughters to Russians and Germans, so loyalties were fractured.
The stories of the First War are heart-breaking,parents searching the fields of France for their loved ones.

That's exactly the frustration. To do the job right and honorably requires you to overcome the forces of human nature that will try to corrupt you. When you take office, you take an oath that you will overcome them...but almost none of them do.

Does this commenter nail it!
It isn't Trump who's far from perfect. Nobody's perfect so that's a given point in any electoral process. What's driving the Trump supporters is the imperfect corrupt atmosphere inside the beltway where no problem is small enough to escape detection and no solution no matter how expensive works. It's an atmosphere where agency directors lie to congressional committees without much worry and where agencies like the IRS are used for political witch hunts and the main actors are never penalized. It's all passed off to bad management practices. A gun running operation called Fast and Furious was hatched to drum up support for gun control but when the plan backfired lies were told, the public was deceived and no one was held accountable. The VA after multiple reforms over the last several years is apparently still up to its old tricks and no one is ever held accountable. Compare the lethargy of DC to the perceived dynamism of Trump. You claim Trump supporters are not intellectuals? Apparently they are smart enough to understand that anyone associated with the current establishment in Washington will never solve the nation's problems. And on that thought they hold the high ground.

It's the same thing joining the police or the military. Part of the job is that you might one day have to risk your life in the line of duty. You might have to take a bullet to protect an innocent citizen.
Nobody wants that, obviously, and you do whatever you can to avoid it, but it's a possibility, and everyone knows it before they apply for the job.
If you're not willing to do that, if you think you couldn't bring yourself to do it, there's no shame in that; you just don't apply to be a police officer.
But if you do take the job, you take it knowing it's a possibility...so if that day does come, and you don't take that bullet and the innocent citizen dies instead, there IS shame, and you SHOULD be condemned.
