The Times fronts the latest Admin spin as they brace for Team Obama's cover-up on Hillary's emails:
Released Emails Show Use of Unclassified Systems Was Routine
...
A review of the 30,322 emails from Mrs. Clinton’s private server that the State Department has made public under the Freedom of Information Act provides an extensive record of how such sensitive information often looped throughout President Obama’s foreign policy apparatus on unclassified systems, from embassies to the United Nations to the White House.
The senders included Denis R. McDonough, currently the White House chief of staff and previously the deputy national security adviser, and Susan E. Rice, the former American representative at the United Nations who is now Mr. Obama’s national security adviser.
Many of the emails were sent over the State Department’s unclassified system, state.gov, which is considered secure but not at the level of the State Department’s system for emailing classified information.
At the State Department, the Pentagon and the White House, among other agencies, officials have two systems for email, one for classified messages and one for more routine business. They are nicknamed the “high side” and the “low side.”
And below the "low side" we have...
Mrs. Clinton’s private server — set up in her home in Westchester County, N.Y. — was assumed to be even less secure than the State Department’s “low side,” although the unclassified servers at some government agencies have been hacked in recent years.
Their gist - officials routinely use the "low side" for stuff that arguably ought to be classified and put on the high side. Therefore, Hillary's use of an even less secure server has no criminal implications relative to national security, State Department record-keeping requirements, or the Freedom of Information Act.
Yeah, whatever. I live for the day when a top Goldman Sachs official explains that all these SEC and Dodd-Frank electronic record keeping requirements puzzle and confuse him, so he put all his email on a private server. Who wouldn't?
no one gives a farthing about trump's tax records

Posted by: Lurker Susie | May 11, 2016 at 10:57 PM
Johns Creek Bill,
Do you realize the exact same things were said about Mitt when he didn't release his tax returns right away?
And, as Beasts said, when he did release them they were not the actual returns but a summary from his accountant.
I didn't object to that back in 2012, as I figured any business guy would have donations and deductions the press would carp about endlessly.
But now that he is in Trump Derangement Mode, Romney is acting like Harry Reid and trying to scare everyone with some bogus bombshell. And the hypothetical problems used in 2012 are the exact ones you are using.
Posted by: Miss Marple 2 | May 11, 2016 at 11:01 PM
Narc - Like it or not, Trump's tax returns are going to be news.
We know his supporters don't care about them. The problem comes up if half the 16% undecided voters care about them.

Lurker Susie,
Good point! Why is it, instead of just retreating to silence, we are constantly told by some people that we are dooomed, doomed I say, and they hit the same points over and over again. (Looking at Mitt Romney and Bush family as well on this.)
I cannot help but think that people pushing this idea are looking to be proved right by Trump suffering defeat. Never mind that the country will suffer.

Posted by: narciso | May 11, 2016 at 11:08 PM
GUS,
The only way Romney would know is if he had a mole in the IRS (illegal) or had bribed a Trump accountant (illegal and unethical).
Third reason is whatever was on Romney's taxes was problematic and hidden through the accountant statement, so he is projecting.

Paris mayor: Trump is 'so stupid'
Spent the rainy afternoon sitting outdoors under an awning at a corner cafe' a stones throw from Notre Dame Cathedral. Very heavy police/military security continues.
Police headquarters on the Ile de la Cité is about 2 blocks away from the Cathedral, but the police are out in numbers on every corner at that Tourist spot.
The protests continued today over the PM's decision to pull a sort of Harry Reid "nuclear option," meaning changing the standard parliamentary procedures and ramming thru some Labor Bill that the legislators and street folk are angry about, so naturally big protests and conflicts occurred near parliament today. As I sat there people watching, the telltale Police sirens went off and cops blocked all traffic as multiple Police vehicles with their lights flashing sped down the street bordering the left bank of the Seine hustling to the protests getting out of hand. They were followed by a dozen Police Officers on bicycles.
Shortly afterwards, 6 Military troops in green Camo-fatigues, each sporting what looked like an AK-47 strapped over their chest for immediate use, crossed from the Seine in my direction from the Ile de la Cité, walked quickly past my table, and headed wherever looking serious and ready for business.
Overall in the space of about 3 hours sitting there I saw probably 100 police and Military men, and I also noticed a few white, windowless vans drive by sans markings, that looked much more like unmarked "Police transports" than vans delivering cheese and bread. Looked to me like they were on alert 24/7.
Did I mention that the Paris Mayor said: "Trump is 'so stupid"

We aren't going to find out what Trump is worth via his tax returns. Rodney Trump didn't just fall off the turnip truck, his topic is silly.
But I do agree that a lot of anti-Rodney types WANT him to LOSE, because of their disdain for him. I know of 4 Americans for CERTAIN that will not vote for him. Smith, Doherty, Stevens, and Woods. If that news doesn't sway you. Nothing will.
Rodham allowed those 4 men to be brutally killed, and she lied about it in front of their dead bodies at Andrews.
That cinches in for me.

Narciso, unless there is a CLAMP DOWN in every Western European country, the outcome of "immigration" policy will not be pretty. The violence, death and mayhem we have seen thus far, will be dwarfed by what is to come. The Western world, the U.S.included is FIDDLING. Liberal people carry liberal attitudes, the level of self delusion is breath taking. London's recent election and their new Mayors "past" associations are mind boggling. It's not that LIBTARDS are suicidal, it is their complete ignorance of reality. They allow that which they WISH WAS TRUE to outweigh all rational thought. There is always a new front that they battle on, that has ZERO bearing on the "progress" that they seek. Pretending TRANSGENDERED people are being maltreated is mental illness. They sacrifice the GREATER GOOD for causes that make themselves feel morally superior. The effort to PET the CROCODILE never ends well. The LEFT seeks to IMPOSE their MENTAL ILLNESS on those who disagree, and WHITE TOGA Republicans bend over and ask for more.
THANK YOU SIR, MAY I HAVE ANOTHER!!

Lurker Susie. Rodham has ZERO accomplishments in her entire life. She is a PATHOLOGICAL liar. She took MILLLLLLLLLIONS in cash from foreign GOVERNMENTS while Sec/State, she was kicked off the Watergate committee for being dishonest.
On and on and on and on and on and on and on and on. I could walk into a local 7/11 and find an Assistant Manager, with better morals, honesty and judgement. We've been lulled into some sort of TRANCE in this nation, believing that hanging around a long time equals competence. Rodham is not competent at ANYTHING.
If she has been successful at any honorable endeavor in her entire life, I'd like to know what it is. We're picking the mother (redacted) President of the UNITED STATES. Rodney Trump is no picnic, but, the man has had success and is reasonably well educated. The biggest issue for me, is that TRUMP isn't RODHAM. She is a filthy lying hack. Whatever you don't like about Rodney Trump, Rodham is much much worse.

100 naked women in Cleveland for a photo shoot on July 17 at sunrise to kick off the convention.
Well I don't know if our gals on the NRO pre-Convention Cruise have gotten naked yet, (they haven't told me that) but I have gotten special permission from Caro to tell you that they are having a fun time, that the panels and panelists are respectful, stimulating, and interesting, and that ideas from opposite sides are entertained in good spirits. Apparently the soup is also damn good, but she couldn't tell me more about it as she was off for cocktail hour festivities.
Internet is slow. Jane tells me that a short vid I sent of street scenes outside Notre Dame today took 5 hours to get there, so I can't tell you what scenery Caro is looking at to paint in future, but she did tell me, when we were discussing young Charles Darwin on the Beagle taking max grief from Fitzroy and the other officers for not having learned how to draw proper, that "Straight lines aren't worth beans!"
There's a life-lesson in there, somewhere:)
BTW, Jane mentioned they were in Slovenia and she really enjoyed it. Off now to look it up on a map.

This is a cheap shot, Theo.
The last thread was long and wearing because of its length, but overall, 20 years from now, if we wanted to pull out a thread to show the wonderful stuff that went on here in the old days, it'd be as a good an example as possible.
We had politics---all sides, good arguments all around: the Tuesday elections and the potential consequences of that; interesting side discussions on music, cars, books, guitars, Musicians, greatest composers on the planet; big doles of Science---Mayan cities, Keplar exo-planets, world class Hi-Fi stereo technology; great discussions of economic problems involving QE and hyper-inflation, benefits of reading; jokes, cruises, Canadian fires, new Movies, book recommendations, TV Show chatter, NRO cruises, almost zero input and zero acknowledgement of the malignant trolls who regularly try to diminish the magic of this place, and on top of it all we had whatever TM initially posted to jabber on about.
Overall I thought it was a heck of an effort, a joint JOM canvas, painted well by all of us firing on all cylinders. Well done, folks.

Because I know we used to talk about interesting nature/nurture Mental stuff, and because you have been gone so much, let me recommend this long NYTimes Sunday Magazine link from a year back, which I think is the greatest human interest Nature/Nurture story of the 21st Century: The Mixed-Up Brothers of Bogotá
After a hospital error, two pairs of Colombian identical twins
were raised as two pairs of fraternal twins. This is the story of how they found one another — and of what happened next.
It's long, so give yourself plenty of time if you do decide to read it, but I think it's as cool as a story can get. I first posted it a year ago so apologies if you've already read it. Personally I'm waiting for the sequel.

Paris mayor: Trump is 'so stupid'
That's the usual last refuge of scoundrels, calling someone you don't get (and by extension his supporters) "stupid." My hope (really prediction) is that a few of the
fencefainting couch-sitters will get on the Trump bandwagon and that will lead to a "preference cascade" (to use Clarice's term) where other cowards will suddenly feel comfortable saying "the emperor has no clothes," i.e. whatever Trump's flaws, Hillary delenda est. That's assuming Hillary is not in an orange jump suit first, though come to think of it, some of her outfits look a bit like that already.

I have a few friends who do not follow things as closely as I have chosen to/am able to and may not find Ds as completely repellant as me, and I have been most grateful to have the many links and some of the comments available to send on to them so they too can make their peace with the R nominee.
As I read through last night's comments, I even thought about sending a few pages of this post on to a specific friend as she has expressed appreciation the many comments that I've already sent, and we've talked about JOM so she'd know of whence that came.
Then I read this sentence---which does pretty much sum it up for a whole lot of folks, in probably the least number of words possible:
Count me in for the total dick. Clothes pin and all. It beats the lyin bitch.

narciso, Regarding Richard Grenell, Romney didn't fire him. He resigned when some people started making a fuss because he was gay, in order not to be a distraction. Romney made no effort to keep him or stand up for him.

There's been a lot of bad behavior here since the first televised food fight began, including from some unexpected sources. I've tried to stay above it all and anybody commenting is welcome to point out when I haven't. When I've taken shots at people it's been in response to them painting people with an overly broad brush.
Passions are high because the last seven years have been a disaster to the principles on which the country was founded and the people we thought could resolve things a year ago have all been kicked to the curb. People are frustrated but that doesn't excuse name calling.

My preferred opening statement by Trump to Ryan: How's that Koskinen impeachment going?
Posted by: Captain Hate | May 12, 2016 at 07:12 AM
10 minutes into the opening of CBS morning news (yuck, I know but husband watches it) they are still following Mitt's lead banging the drum that "Trump needs to release his tax forms", "The IRS says there is no reason he cannot release them", "they may lead to associations with unsavory characters", "does it disqualify him to be president if he doesn't release them?"..... They began with Mitt's statements, then interviewed all sorts who agree, then speculated about what "might" be in them.
SO - It appears their little plan is working. Now who do you think "they" are? OH yes - it is also being sprinkled with doses of "Trump really needs to mend fences today with Ryan and get everyone's approval if he stands ANY chance - ad nauseam"

This is gonna leave a mark ...
A Daily Caller News Foundation investigation reveals that Bill and Hillary Clinton received at least $100 million from autocratic Persian Gulf states and their leaders, potentially undermining Democratic presidential candidate Hillary's claim she can carry out independent Middle East policies.
As a presidential candidate, the amount of foreign cash the Clintons have amassed from the Persian Gulf states is "simply unprecedented," says national security analyst Patrick Poole.
"These regimes are buying access. You've got the Saudis. You've got the Kuwaitis, Oman, Qatar and the UAE. There are massive conflicts of interest. It's beyond comprehension," Poole told TheDCNF in an interview.
Overall, the Clinton Foundation has received upwards of $85 million in donations from five Persian Gulf states and their monarchs, according to the foundation's website.

Will Palin help? She promised to campaign for Nehlen, but has a 52% unfavorable result herself (among Rs in the district).

Yes he does, Buckeye. Big time. The morning news just showed cackling Hillary using the tax returns as an issue.

>>>I suspect Trump has not released them because they will bolster the theory that he is not worth as much as a says he is and they will show that he is not that charitable. I would bet that he has given significantly more to the Clinton Foundation than to Veterans related groups.<<<
Or he hasn't released them because he:
a. doesn't want to
b. they are laborious and would "prove" what anyway would want to say.
(In a similar vein to the Panama Papers, one of the big headlines was Jackie Chan had some accounts-and he did-for legitimate business reasons. Even the writers breathlessly reporting on the haul stated that most of it is not illegal, maybe unseemly, but I'd want to hide what I could from a bitchy ex-wife or greedy government bureaucrats too.)
pretty sure the dirt will come out after the convention so get the pressure washer ready.

I'll bring Mjölnir.

Dan Quayle just said that Trump was considered for GHWB's Vice President. This is my shocked face.

Here is a link for the Ryan polls.

Trump had to know this issue would come up, as it came up 4 years ago with Romney.
Therefore, I do not think this issue is going to play out the way Romney and Hillary expect.

doubtful I'd ever get confused with Thor-a 6'3" Australian with movie star looks...
oh well.

Beasts,
Did he really? That is some way interesting news!
By the way, in following this soap opera, I would like to point out that Bill Kristol was Dan Quayle's chief of staff and was so despised by GHWB's people that they wouldn't let him into campaign planning meetings, because he always leaked to the press.
Posted by: Miss Marple 2 | May 12, 2016 at 08:15 AM
wow that is a surprise beasts.
and a good morning to all.
Posted by: rich@gmu | May 12, 2016 at 08:16 AM
the obvious difference is that even on the "low" side the Government email system is still controlled by the government and can be monitored and controlled ... Clintons server wasn't on the low side ... it was on "no" side ...

He sure did!! And I gotta admit, I think DQ is absolutely awesome. Maybe he'd like to live at the Naval Observatory again? :)

Quayle got a raw deal. He's actually a pretty smart guy and a good politician.
Another fun fact: He is a grandson of the guy who owned The Indianapolis Star, Eugene Pulliam.
Posted by: Miss Marple 2 | May 12, 2016 at 08:25 AM
I am pleased that Quayle surfaced to drop that little bombshell.
Maybe the Bush people will shut up for a while.

Cap'n followed by: "How's that Power of the Purse" working out?
Posted by: Old Lurker | May 12, 2016 at 08:27 AM
Trump should just say all of his tax returns were stored on a private server in his basement but they were lost when the hot water heater sprung a leak.
Posted by: Old Lurker | May 12, 2016 at 08:30 AM
Maybe the Bush people will shut up for a while.
Not likely. They have waited 8 years to speak their minds.
Losers.

sprang?
Posted by: Old Lurker | May 12, 2016 at 08:31 AM
Exactly, OL.
Quayle was the first example I noticed of the complete uselessness of the gelded eunuchs of the GOP in responding to the MFM dumbasses when they put one of their people in the crosshairs. Frankly Trump's biggest appeal to me is his willingness to tell them all to go [Redacted] themselves.
Posted by: Captain Hate | May 12, 2016 at 08:31 AM
I've always liked Dan Quayle, too! I think of him every time I write the word potato. Talk about a tempest in a teapot! Think of that in comparison to the things O. has said and the gaffes (corpsmen, 57 states, Austrian, etc.)

Still striving for relevance.

I think GUS said it perfectly last night:
I know of 4 Americans for CERTAIN that will not vote for him. Smith, Doherty, Stevens, and Woods. If that news doesn't sway you. Nothing will.
Rodham allowed those 4 men to be brutally killed, and she lied about it in front of their dead bodies at Andrews.
That cinches in for me.
I would like to hear any conservative or Republican who has declared their support for Hillary because Trump is so unfit to be President, answer to that.

Exactly. People remember him for two things - "potatoe" and the "You're no Jack Kennedy" thing in the 1988 debate.
I do wish he'd been a little quicker on his feet and come back with: "You're right. I'm not. I only sleep with my own wife."

About a bazillion reporters outside the Capitol entrance.
Luntz saying that this is the most important political meeting ever.
Always remember: Trump believes in walking away from a bad deal.
Posted by: Miss Marple 2 | May 12, 2016 at 08:38 AM
Sorry, not Capitol Hill. Meeting is at RNC and that is where the reporters are.
Trump has landed at Dulles.
Posted by: Miss Marple 2 | May 12, 2016 at 08:41 AM
is the meeting Trump and Ryan? not sure I'm following ...
Posted by: rich@gmu | May 12, 2016 at 08:43 AM
Trump should tell the press he'll release his tax returns after Obama releases his college transcripts.
