Hmm. Although she does not endorse him, and has certainly heard from the NeverTrump side, Megan McAardle runs out a few arguments in favor of The Donald.

Hillary!'s quick exit from CA on primary day was not because she was afraid she'd lost. She knew BHO was going to cover her matronly rear with his early endorsement.

And this "to be sure" paragraph is worth at least thinking about:
"Are there rebuttals to all these arguments? There are. The most fundamental one is that for all of Clinton’s many flaws, she does not have the sort of impulse-control issues, petty vindictiveness and cultivated ignorance that make it actively terrifying to contemplate what she might do with America’s military and nuclear arsenal, or provoke Russia or China into doing with theirs. Most policy issues, no matter how vital, fade into insignificance compared with the possibility of a nuclear exchange between two major world powers."
There are very good reasons not to elect either one of them. In my opinion, there is not an easy choice here. Of course, those who have made up their minds are entitled to their opinion as well.

One other irony. The Democrats keep talking about their desire to "take money out of politics." Yet when there was a recent spate of articles about how Rodham and her cronies were going to dramatically outraise and outspend Trump, the Clintonistas seem to think that this was a good thing.
If it were not for double standards, they would have no standards at all.

EXCLUSIVE: Longtime GOP Backer Says Ryan Hopes Trump Loss Clears Deck For 2020
By Alex Pfeiffer 4:15 PM 06/09/2016
A longtime Republican financial backer who attended a New York fundraiser held by Chris Christie for Donald Trump Thursday tells The Daily Caller that most Republican donors are on board with Trump, yet House Speaker Paul Ryan is hoping Trump loses so he can run in four years.
The source tells TheDC that the reason Ryan has not been coming out strongly for Trump is because of his desire to run in four years. Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, who has been fervently anti-Trump, also wants to run in four years, according to the longtime Republican backer. Romney will be 73 in 2020.

Short version of Hillary! flunks rebuttals 101. I'm sure someone else could do better than this:
1. Impulse-control
We came, we saw, he died [cackle, cackle, cackle]; "F'ing Jew bastard" tirade at loyal aide; witnessed badgering of depressed friend Vince Foster; falsely accused non-political employees of WH travel office and terminated them; Benghazi video and lies to families of four killed.
2. Petty vindictiveness
900+ raw FBI files illegally obtained for political purposes; personal destruction and intimidation of victims of BJ's continuing sexual predator activities
3. Cultivated ignorance
Promising to do away with electoral college when elected to Senate; reset Button carp with Russia; mastermind of Gaddafi ouster ; Benghazi disaster; Sid Blumenthal
4. Nuclear exchange and the Hawk from Evanston
On April 22, 2008, Clinton threatened Iran with nuclear annihilation if they attacked Israel with nuclear weapons; Oops, a "slip of the tongue"; 2015 favors commission to limit influence of weapons makers; 2016 prolific Clinton donor named to sensitive nuclear advisory board.
As Zell Miller said, "I could go own and own and own."
I would trust Theo in the WH but never HRC.

Mr. 47% says:
"Mitt Romney suggested Friday that Donald Trump's election could legitimize racism and misogyny, ushering in a change in the moral fabric of American society.
The 2012 Republican nominee, who has openly opposed Trump's candidacy, went further than he has before in outlining to CNN's Wolf Blitzer how the country's character would suffer in a Trump White House. Trump's rhetoric has caused even some other Republicans to label him a racist, and Romney said he would not be able to paper over his incendiary remarks.
"I don't want to see trickle-down racism" Romney said in an interview here in a suite overlooking the Wasatch Mountains, where he is hosting his yearly ideas conference. "I don't want to see a president of the United States saying things which change the character of the generations of Americans that are following. Presidents have an impact on the nature of our nation, and trickle-down racism, trickle-down bigotry, trickle-down misogyny, all these things are extraordinarily dangerous to the heart and character of America.""

Lurker Susie --
If that is what floats your boat, go for it.
In my opinion, Willard is a fine and decent man and I very much wish that he had been president these last four years and was now running for re election.
I know that there are those here who think that this would have been the case if he had campaigned differently (I think the phrase is "being willing to get his toga dirty").
Maybe so, but that is an easy claim to make and a difficult one to back up with actual evidence other than "wishcasting."
Let me ask this -- Can those who think that Mitt might have won if he had been more in your face (or whatever) please describe either the two and a half million voters who voted for Obama that would have voted for Willard if he had a dirty toga OR the five million people who did not vote who would have voted for him if he had not kept his toga so clean?
Let me give you a hint. There were in fact about 5 million fewer white voters in 2012 than in 2008. But let me go a bit deeper into the data -- the data pretty much establishes that the whites who voted in 2008 but did not vote in 2012 almost all VOTED FOR OBAMA in 2008. These were not people who did not think Romney was tough enough; these were people who had backed Obama and did not want to do so again, but were not quite willing to vote against him either.
Also, check out the Nate Cohn piece from earlier this week at the NYT -- actually a somewhat promising bit of analysis for Trump -- which likewise confirms that the whites who voted in 2008 but not in 2012 were overwhelmingly registered Democrats.
One can never be sure about a counterfactual. But I really ask the folks here to make out the case of just how Willard would have won in 2012 if he had gotten his toga dirty. Who in broad terms are the voters he would have gotten that he did not?

Buckeye -
A pithy comment to be sure, but does not quite answer my question.
Again, assume that Willard had "grown a pair" before 2012, please describe the voters who would have voted for him but did not.
Can you really envision millions of people voting for Obama who would have voted for Romney if he had demonstrated more testosterone? Why would they vote for Obama unless they were into the whole left wing/free shit thing? Could testosterone have persuaded them to vote for a conservative instead? Seriously?

Romney was plenty tough on Noot.
His problem was he really wasn't on the same side as Noot. He just wanted to be a white toga version of Obama.
Now Noot is backing Trump. And again Romney is on the other side.
Nothing really wrong with Romeny, we (and I don't mean you Theo) now know he's not on our side.
Posted by: boris | June 10, 2016 at 08:24 PM
Lurker Susie --
How does a statement that there is a "racist tendency that exists IN SOME PEOPLE" lead to the conclusion that "we are all racists?"
Do you deny that there is a "racist tendency that exists in some people?" I certainly think that tendency does exist in "some people."
Do you think that Trump's comments do not appeal to such racist tendencies? Fair enough if that is your view, but again that hardly means that Romney accused everyone of being racist.
Or do you disagree that it is dangerous to appeal to the racist tendencies that exist in some people? Again, I am not arguing, just asking.

What MM said at 8:36
Romney was NEVER as nasty towards Obama as he's been towards Trump.
And as for him fighting more in 2012, I think you have to be deliberately obtuse to think that a more aggressive campaign that:
1. Did a better job of defining Romney before the Dems could define him and totally control the narrative
2. Showed that he would fight back when he - and even more so his wife - was attacked
3. Was better prepared to attack on the lies and coverups of Be ghazi while it was still fresh in voters' minds
...would have performed better. Maybe it would have been a closer loss, or maybe it would have been a victory. There's no way to know that.
But a Romney that at least went some way towards controlling his own image, and who voters could see was willing to stand up for himself and those he loved (and thus by extension willing to stand up for the American people against those who would attack them), could certainly not have done worse than the Romnwy we actually got.

I was heartbroken when he lost (for our country not for him)....but I figured he just didn't have it in his personality to fight back!
NOW I see he DOES have it and then some - he just chooses to use it against a Republican (Trump) instead of Democrat Obama.
So he's burned a bridge with me. Before his Trump attacks, I thought of him as just a nice guy but he's shown another side that isn't so nice.

what a nutbar, I guess it was an early version of sockpuppeting,
In 1997 former Tikkun editors accused Lerner of publishing pseudonymous letters to the editor that he himself had written. While many of the letters were laudatory ("Your editorial stand on Iraq said publicly what many of us in the Israeli peace camp are feeling privately but dare not say."), a few were critical ("Have you gone off your rocker?"). Lerner admitted that he had written the letters but said his only mistake was not informing readers that the authors' names were pseudonyms.[10]
