well when I first got here, we were pestered by the luciferians, and dana ward, and geek esquire, and a whole host of nazguls, as well as many smart kind funny engaging people, with different interests but a natural curiousity, some sadly passed before their time, some have moved away, there are some argument clinics that I thought weren't really in need of review,

maryrose

If Ryan is Eddy Munster what nickname can we give to Trump😇

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

Is it actually a principle if its result is electing someone diametrically opposed to and intent on destroying those things that the principled person supposedly believes in?

Sounds more like a conceit to me.

Beasts of England

Hair von Trump?

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

Hitler!

maryrose

I just would like people to disagree respectfully.
Is that possible or do we have to rip people a new one to get them to step in line.

No.
But maybe views vary on what each person comes here for.
I like to read short news excerpts & get links & pass on witty comments. I like reminders about the past of political players & organizations....& relationships between the players.

I also post here when I just can't contain my thoughts about something I've read. It doesn't even matter if anyone responds. Hah!

Just don't interact with whoever you don't like. Or do interact. Whatever.

Beasts of England

Thank you, maryrose!! :)

To me, too.

And the interesting thing is that hardly anyone is listening to them but each other, proving that their conceit is unfounded.

Jane, Here's some aspects of a Trump Administration, in my view:

1. Way more attention paid to modernizing our nuclear forces and development of improved ballistic missile defense.

2. Effort to appoint Scalia types to the federal courts.

3. Modest and ineffectual tax reform.

4. Cutbacks on solar and wind subsidies, but no real move to halt your tax dollars going to nonsensical green projects.

5. Tilt away from Iran.

6. More aggressive moves against ISIS, but not a full scale operation to wipe them out.

7. More focus on border security and illegals, but no wall and no mass deportation.

8. No meaningful entitlement reform.

9. More pressure on Europe to increase defense spending.

10. Jawing with Red China over trade, but no trade war.

11. Less pressure on Israel.

Those are some of my predictions.

Janet Lange commenting on FB to the lat4est NR post by Ramesh:
Pamela Lange
14 hrs ·
Pamela Lange "Others — especially among conservative writers, activists, and think-tankers — say they will never vote for him." This is the key sentence in a well written article. But there's one important point missing. That group of writers, activists and think-tankers will experience no real world consequences with a HRC presidency. In fact, most, if not all of them will continue to grow their income/wealth because of it. These people - the arbiters of conservative doctrine and purity - have not seen the economic consequences of Obama; the stagnant wages, the replacement of their jobs with foreign workers, the onerous cost to their communities of illegal school children filling their schools. And they will continue to make more and more when she's elected by promising to "fight" Mrs. Clinton. I can only imagine how my mail and inbox will fill with requests to "stop" her. Those of us who are desperate to stop the madness of democrats and feckless Republicans running our country have only one choice. Although he wasn't mine (Cruz was), Trump has won. He won despite both our political enemies and friends throwing everything at him. He brushed them off and he remains. Tuesday's presser proved once again that this guy is different - he is a fighter. And sometimes you just have to go with the man who seems to be the only one who will actually do the fighting - not just talk and write and think tank about the change we need. Perhaps if the American people had been convinced by that select group of men and women in the think tanks, if NR and TWS had actually been effectual over the past 8 years, an actual conservative may have won and Congress would be full of conservative Republicans instead of K Street groupies. The "writers, activists and think-tankers" have failed us. Massively. What choice did WE have and DO we have? Trump is the only one promising to help. Maybe he can't, maybe he won't. But knowing for sure if HRC is elected that I will be spending another 4 or 8 years watching my savings stagnate and my hours cut because the small business I work for can't keep up with taxes/regulations is not a luxury I, nor millions of others can afford. If HRC wins, maybe NRI will re-hire me so I can be protected from the choice the pure people will be making in November.

anonamon posted this comment that was at a Spectator article a few days ago. I don't know who wrote it. -

"It isn't Trump who's far from perfect. Nobody's perfect so that's a given point in any electoral process. What's driving the Trump supporters is the imperfect corrupt atmosphere inside the beltway where no problem is small enough to escape detection and no solution no matter how expensive works. It's an atmosphere where agency directors lie to congressional committees without much worry and where agencies like the IRS are used for political witch hunts and the main actors are never penalized. It's all passed off to bad management practices. A gun running operation called Fast and Furious was hatched to drum up support for gun control but when the plan backfired lies were told, the public was deceived and no one was held accountable. The VA after multiple reforms over the last several years is apparently still up to its old tricks and no one is ever held accountable. Compare the lethargy of DC to the perceived dynamism of Trump. You claim Trump supporters are not intellectuals? Apparently they are smart enough to understand that anyone associated with the current establishment in Washington will never solve the nation's problems. And on that thought they hold the high ground."

Miss Marple 2

Just got caught up on the thread.

What I don't understand is why people think Trump would stab everyone in the back and turn dictator, destroying his family name and leaving his children with a worthless business and the heritage of being a hated man.

Why does that make sense?

He is obviously (and rightfully) proud of his children. Why would he destroy their lives?

why people think Trump would stab everyone in the back and turn dictator,

Exactly. The person running for POTUS that has proven her dictator bona fides is Hillary Clinton. She was given a govt. position as Secretary of State...& what she did was run her own private business on her own private computer system with her own personally chosen helpers.

She ignored the legitimate State Dept. responsibilities. She was in that office with that title & was doing....well, who knows what the hell she was doing. Takin' care of her Clinton Foundation connections.

buccaneer morgan

Yes, why exactly is Trump such a putative wildcard? Read his books, listen to what he has said --there are vagaries but all in all he's been a pro-defense, pro conservative for a long time. And at the very least, he's a patriot, and given Clinton's global habits of thievery, the same can not be said of her. TM, do think! The courts if nothing else!!

Why are you apologizing? You didn't offend me; I just thought your comparison was unwarranted, and ultimately counterproductive. I've expressed plenty of trepidation about Trump myself, as in my head is going to explode when I cast my ballot, but at this point, I see no legitimate alternatives to the candidate that has been chosen by Republican voters, perhaps even overwhelmingly chosen by the time we get to the convention floor. Win or lose, Trump is the army we've got, and I think Clinton is the really dangerous one. If nothing else, the idea of Bill Clinton wandering around the White House with nothing to do must give you the creeps, no?

Oh my goodness daddy - I loved your Zardoz post!
MM - hope you make lots of sales tomorrow and can close down early.
So puzzling to me when people talk like Trump landed here from another planet and "we don't know WHAT he might do!!!"
This is an admitted pro-Trump video (linked below and it's long - 27 minutes) but it has old clips of things he's said for years.

I believe he's always loved America and I just as strongly believe Obama and Hillary hate it! I'm sure if he makes it to the White House he will do things I disagree with but I do not believe he will intentionally do things to damage our safety or our standing in the world. He's been harping on that for years.

On the other hand, I am 100% certain that Hillary will continue much of Obama's destruction plus add her own special sauce.

You're welcome, JMH; Portman is the squishy kind of Repub that Ahians seem to keep in office, i.e. Voinovich. Al Sharpton would be just as good a president as Hillary Clinton. :) At least he's kept his figure these past few years. :) And add in those VP candidates. Julian Castro. Cory Booker. Deval Patrick. Elizabeth Warren. The list goes on.

The Republican primary is over. The choice is Trump or someone on the list from above. It's time to quit nursing hurt feelings or lingering anger or feeling smug about one's cosmopolitan position in life. My candidate dissolved in the first few months. But I'll be damned if I'd vote for a skank/grifter/liar who patted Benghazi coffins and lied to grieving parents and the American people, and then asked sarcastically "at this point, what difference does it make?!!" Who was in the White House the last time the Federal Government sent tanks in and incinerated a couple of dozen American women and children? Hillary and Blll Clinton.

Who was in the White House the last time the Federal Government sent a team in with machine guns to seize a 5-year-old child, rip him away from his family and ship him off to a totalitarian Communist hellhole? Hillary and Bill Clinton.

One of the problems we have, something I'm surprised TM seems to have fallen for, is not quite comprehending (it appears) our three branches of government and the fact that Congress is *first* among equals. That realization completely mitigates this crazy talk about Trump as fascist dictator, etc.

Another reason why I'm pleased with the ascent of Trump is that he is something of a good reminder to the left -- we don't have Kings in this country. An imperial chief executive is not what you want.

I have a feeling Trump is going to refresh their recollections on this point. To which I say, good. But I'm not interested in their wailing until after he first gives them -- in coordination with the Congress, of course -- a dose of their own medicine.

But, regardless of political affiliation, we have to be much better at insisting that Congress does its "first among equals" job.

I think you're wrong about the above. I think he's going to seek out every nook and cranny where he can cut government bloat, corruption, unnecessary bureaucracy and mismanagement.

He has talked quite a bit about how the environmentalists are out of control, the regulations absurd and too many and their negative effect on business. He doesn't believe in AGW. He has promised to revive the coal industry.
