Brexit? What Brexit? The S&P 500 closed at 2113 on Thursday, June 23, before the votes were counted in the UK. After the returns were in, the S&P 500 closed at 2037 on Friday and 2001 the following Monday, after dipping below 2000.
Yet a mere week later, the S&P 500 stands at 2083, nearly all the way back. I credit Obama's steady leadership as well as the candor and transparency of his likely successor, Ms. Clinton.
And the FTSE 100, meant to track the UK stock market, is above pre-Brexit levels. Of course, that does not adjust for the swoon in the pound, so a dollar-based investor in the UK is still down from last week.
Here is the recent action in S&P 500:
If you scooped up shares on Monday, give yourself a pat on the back. I did not do any buying, but I did view the sell-off as a terrific non-selling opportunity, so I had that going for me.
Mrs. JiB's Belgian bank stocks were down 22% after Brexit vote and now they are close to parity the day before. I told her "Don't Panic, Don't Panic!"
But it was still a gut shot and almost empty the wine fridge of our remaining bubbly:)

The left is always so vicious because they know if anyone actually dares to say the emperor is buck tooth nekkid the whole facade falls.
We can't go back, not because they think we'll devolve into a twilight state of nature, but because we'll realize that not only are we more prosperous without their yoke but we don't need a damned left wing overseer with a whip in his hand driving us on to his mythical utopia in his larded up wagon.

From my experience certain polls are always in the bag for the dems by using outrageous samples, then right before the election they use more realistic samples to save face. I think Gallup historically says dems average plus 6% but this is a strange year and there's no telling what 8 years of jugears has done to the electorate.

Speaking of voluntary associations . . . I would venture to say that at this point close to one half of those who used to think of themselves as "Republicans" have emotionally already left the party--myself included. Call it the GOPeXit. That emotional break is what allowed us to vote for Trump in the primaries (I didn't), or what is allowing us to support him now as the legitimately elected nominee (I now do)--and all in the face of being repudiated as racist and ignorant and all manner of pejoratives by the leaders of the party we used to belong to emotionally but no longer do. Once you've emotionally quit on something--be it a relationship/marriage, or a job, or a political party--the physical act of leaving is much easier.
You want to talk about needing to persuade. Well, the GOPe is going to have a real persuasion problem on their hands if Trump loses. Because no matter how much anyone might argue otherwise about whose fault the loss will be, the Trump voters are going to blame it all on Ryan, McConnell and the GOPe. Now imagine the difficulty in getting those voters to turn out in the future for a party they've already emotionally, if not physically, quit on and vote for Paul Ryan or some other tomato can, who from their point of view behaved with dishonor, disparaged them to their face, and basically said we don't want you fly-over racists in our clean toga party anymore. So, okey dokey, but try winning any office above dog catcher without us, fools.
I remember TC as being a vociferous opponent of Trump during the primaries, and yet now he has emotionally broken with the party. And that has nothing to do with Trump, who he didn't even support, and everything to do with Ryan, McConnell, Kasich, et al.
To me, anyone who believes Ryan, Kasich, McConnell, and possibly even Cruz are looking out for what is best for the country, let alone their party, rather than just themselves are being used. And not in a nice way.

derwill,
I guess my first emotion about all of this is profound sadness. At one time I held the Bush family in high esteem. I stood out in the cold at the statehouse demonstrating during the Florida recount. I defended almost every action of W because I trusted he had a good reason and had the country's interests at heart.
Sadly, I no longer think that the case. I think there wee too many wheeler dealers amongst his donors, too many opportunists (as we have seen from the book contracts, new jobs, and political campaigns).
I guess what galls me is that he (and Jeb) never once defended us during this last 8 years. It was sort of like "Oh, well. Whatever." I thought he could have at least said something, or if not him, surely Jeb. But no.
I switched parties after 1 term of Jimmy Carter. Voted for Reagan and never voted for a single dem since.
But really, I am done with them, except for this year's vote. After that, if Trump doesn't win, I will support a 3rd party based on Trump's principles.
They have no one to blame but themselves. I can take almost anything, but the contempt for the voter and the mocking of the working class (my people) has just been too much to bear.

Trump is forbidding candidates from running if they don't endorse him? Forbidding? He has that power? Wow.

Maryrose "Derwill That is your opinion and I can disagree with it.That is my right under Free Speech laws."
Maryrose, what "that" are you referring to?
Of course you "can" disagree with whatever "that" is, but do you, and why?
And while you believe that open disagreement is your right, go see the Drudge story just now about plans at the FEC and FCC to regulate speech on the internet then get back to us.

maryrose--"That is your opinion and I can disagree with it.That is my right under Free Speech laws."
That is one of the most pathetic strawmen I have ever seen. No where did I say you couldn't disagree with me, or that you have no right to free speech. In fact I didn't even mention your name, but if you saw yourself in there somewhere and you didn't like it, well, too bad, so sad.

Beautifully said, derwill.
And in a sorority and the Marines? That's an exclusive club I would imagine. :)

I am still a member of the Republican Party.

Derwill
Not a strawman a fact. As long as I have been on this blog we can state opinions contrary to one another. That is what I meant.

derwill, you nailed it. Thank you.
It has been bad enough to be called every name in the book by the D's for the last 8 years. To have our supposed party leaders adding to the chorus is just too much.
After all, it's free to shut up, which they could easily accomplish. They have certainly had years of practice at it. But now, they have suddenly found their voices, and raise them in opposition to their own base with nary a whisper of opposition to the D's or their nominee.
If I may borrow from OL, Femall.
