What did I miss?
FWIW, Benjamin Wittes of Lawfare has a plausible explanation of why Hillary gets a pass for what surely looks like gross negligence in the handling of classified intel. Lest you doubt his bona fides, his resume:
Benjamin Wittes is editor in chief of Lawfare and a Senior Fellow in Governance Studies at the Brookings Institution. He is the author of several books and is co-chair of the Hoover Institution's Working Group on National Security, Technology, and Law.
All that said, I am still bitter that FBI Director Comey did not simultaneously announce an indictment referral against Hillary and an injunction against the Durant/Golden State deal. Grr...
Trump said something about Saddam Hussein. That should keep the news cycle busy for a while.
Think there was some Hillary news that will make any comments about the e-mails old news to be dismissed in a few days. Which is fine. Because we need to talk about Trump. right?

Wittes notes that the Clinton Foundation and CGI were not part of this investigation, but what if they had been? Don't we all suspect that all of this "innocent mishandling" would look a lot more intentional and nefarious?
And, Comey says that without malice, or volume of mishandling, or evidence of obstruction of justice no case can be made.
Wouldn't the deliberate and intentional effort to avoid accountability, archiving, and FOIA production constitute obstruction?
I read another theory for the failure to refer for prosecution: Comey was afraid that the DOJ would charge a misdemeanor, then slow walk the whole process and thereby prevent a future R administration from bringing a felony prosecution.

jk: correction: Dem "Elected officials and their appointees can do whatever they want".
Have you noticed that Orlando has been completely suppressed now (And bot that was quick, wasn't--and we thought that the Dems were al; about the gay lobby). Imagine if there was a Republican in the WH. We would still be hearing about Orlando nonstop.
Note how Comey essentially said: "Now do not any of the rest of you get the idea that you can do this and get away with it".
This last bit is really too much: The FBI saying that anyone but a senior Dem would get prosecuted, and doing it right out in the open on national TV.
Yet it does not seem to register with the average American just what happened here.

Even if he did not have that chip, he could care less--these seems to be some confusion of just what sort of "people" we are dealing with here. Aparats like Comey would happily send us all off to camps without so much a blink of the eye.
He stood up before the American people and told blatant lies, and lies that of their own contents are crudely contradictory, and blatantly irrational. This is not what a leader of an FBI investigation does, not as we a ciztens expect.
You on a whole other level here. I hopenit sinks in just how outrageous his conduct is with the broader electorate, but I will believe that when I see it.
Again, he stood before and said in effect: "hillary is inoccenct, if do not get the idie that you can do this and get away with it".
He said that right to our faces. He did not imply it; he did nto wait until later date to put this out. He gave it to the American people irght in our faces.
He said that there was no "intent" even though "intent" has nothing to do with it. He in fact did not investigate the crime that was committed, but some other "crime". He did not connect with just why Clinto did this. He did explain how even the act of setting up illegal server was an act of "negligence".
He said that he could find no one to prosecute: that is not his job.
Lastly he made no attempt at all to connect this with any bribery or influence peddling scheme when it is obviously connected to such schemes.
Right in our faces. and then Hillary and Obama appear, using Airforce 1 and the presidential seal to campaign.
And let me point out that there are still investigations going on, and that Hillary is not a private citizen. The president of the USA has no business even appearing public with here. MY goodness, if a governor or an AG did this with a private citizen under investigation, they would likely be disbarred and/or impeached.
What outrageous behavior--yet they get away with it. Why?
Because we have moved beyond the rule of law, that's why.

I agree with your last point about National Merit Scholars.
Jr. was a finalist, and because of it he ended up with a full ride undergrad, guaranteed seat in Med School without having to take the MCAT (he did anyway), research fellowship, etc. He had to compete for the slot, but being a finalist got him the opportunity.
I think SD's point, that it is not necessarily an indicator of intelligence, is also true.
When Jr. graduated high school, class of about 600, there where 25 scholars of which 17 where finalists. A couple of the kids were just suck up politicians, not really all that bright.
Posted by: Buckeye | July 06, 2016 at 11:56 AM
Ditto what Henry says about tick bites.
Nantucket is ground zero for that stuff and much of the science has been done here.
The rash is nice but more than half the time it is not there or not seen. Flu like symptoms are nice too but too easily mistaken for, well, the flu.
The tick culprits are not the familiar "dog ticks" we pull from our pets with tweezers; for infected deer ticks, think grains of sand.
Early Lyme goes away and one might think they are OK only to have the very very serious secondary symptoms show up months or years later at which time they very well might not be treatable.
Google Kris Kristoferson last week to get my point.
The blood tests are not 100% accurate either.
The Doxy protocol immediately is the only way to go.
All of the above is the one "speech" we give EVERY houseguest up here to be on the watch for in the week after they leave here.
At my age I have way too many friends who have been permanently damaged and have had their lives shortened by that group of tick borne diseases.

Marlene, you may recall I had Lyme last year. It takes a couple of weeks for the tests to show positive results. Based on the appearance of my skin (I'd had no idea I'd been bitten), the doc started me on doxycycline. Eventually the test came back positive. Incidentally, in my case it wasn't a bullseye, just a red blotch about 4" in diameter, which because it was on my back I was lucky to even notice. (And my wife pushed me to go to the doc, which she never fails to remind me.)

25% of Dems (these are the Bernvictims, presumably)
79% of Republicans
63% of unaffiliated voters
That seems fairly huge.
