The Times helps Obama contemplate his climate change legacy and our energy future. The results are predictable - disturbing the Upper West Side readership is a no-no, so there is no mention of fracking, which has put more coal plants out of business than any Obama initiative. Also unmentioned (but you know this) is nuclear power and Obama's role, with Sen. Reid, in putting the kibosh on the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository.
Yeah, it's all anti-science Republicans bought out by the Koch brothers. Whatever.
As a diversion, they do offer up this bit of political analysis about Obama's inability to bring along his own part when he had a mere 59 Democratic Senators and control of the House:
Eight years ago, when Mr. Obama ran for president against Senator John McCain of Arizona, both men had essentially the same position on global warming: It is caused by humans, and Congress should enact legislation to cap greenhouse gas emissions and force polluters to buy and trade permits that would slowly lower overall emissions of climate-warming gases.
But in the summer of 2010, a cap-and-trade bill Mr. Obama had tried to push through Congress failed, blocked by senators from both parties.
“One would have hoped for transformational leadership, in the way J.F.K. would have done it,” said Hans Joachim Schellnhuber, the director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research in Germany.
Hmm, when your go-to guy for a quote on JFK's leadership is coming from Germany, that might be a red flag. Kennedy's civil rights initiatives were roughly as dead in Congress as Obama's cap-and-trade, but were eventually muscled through by Lyndon Johnson.
Oh, its the Times - let their readers have their fun.
No...he was just on a conference call with them organizing a protest.
And willing to do it for "free", once Uncle George Soros stuffed walking around money in his pockets.

It is tough to transcribe the Michael Medved meltdowm.
He starts with Gary Johnson and asks him to drop out of the race for being so stupid. He wants "loosertarian" Wells to assume the top of the ticket.
He then went on to pray out loud that Clinton, Trump, and the green party whacko follow Johnson's lead.
Now he is playing clips of Clinton, giving her the benefit of the doubt for all her misspeaks.
Now he is quoting Snopes.

Maybe it's Captain Stormwolfe's Visit to Heaven. Couldn't resist a little hyperbole at last, hyperbole at last, hyperbole at last.
Gad I wish she hadn't destroyed Twain's last stuff.
Got a bit o' Bierce for ya:
"One instance was particularly horrible. After some hours of close engagement my brigade, with foul pieces and exhausted cartridge boxes, was relieved and withdrawn to the road to protect several batteries of artillery---probably two dozen pieces---which commanded an open field in the rear of our line. Before our weary and virtually disarmed men had actually reached the guns the line in front gave way, fell back behind the guns and went on, the Lord knows whither. A moment later the field was gray with Confederates in pursuit. Then the gun opened fire with grape and canister and for perhaps five minutes----it seemed an hour----nothing could be heard but the infernal din of their discharge and nothing seen through the smoke but a great ascension of dust from the smitten soil. When all was over, and the dust cloud had lifted, the spectacle was too dreadful to describe. The Confederates were still there---all of them, it seemed---some almost under the muzzles of the guns. But not a man of all these brave fellows was on his feet, and so thickly were all covered with dust that they looked as if they had been reclothed in yellow.
"We bury our dead," said a gunner, grimly, though doubtless all were afterward dug out, for some were partly alive.

Buckeye, the only way to make the iPhone seriously water resistant was to remove the headphone jack.
Interestingly for hunters, it allows the phone to listen and cap the intensity of any loud noise. That would work well with a gunshot in the woods and a riff at a Dave Matthews concert.

It's the same m.o. as saying the IRS went after liberal non-profits too -- and totally ignoring the fact that the disparity in targeting is like a gazillion to 1. I think roping in Colin Powell is also of a piece with setting up racist traps for Trump. They're practically inviting him to attack Obama's Muslim judicial nominee, and you've got Bill, doing his southern good ol' boy best to explain the "Make America Great Again" dog whistle.
I wonder if maybe Trump as the "risky candidate" hasn't been getting the hoped for traction, because it seems to me that the Clinton campaign has decided to bet it all on bigotry. Y'all have probably seen this HuffPo Editor’s note, but you could push any neverTrump button, and out it wouold come, practically word for word:
They just couldn't resist gilding the putative pledge lily with "repeatedly," could they? It seems a certain measure of hysteria is required to establish your anti-Trump bona fides.
I actually rathered enjoyed reading the article that advisory was appended to, featuring the "long-running gripe within Democratic circles that the expectations for Donald Trump have been set so exceedingly low that there is virtually nothing he could do to imperil his candidacy," along with the 6 things he's said "That Would Destroy Any Other Presidential Candidate." They even tried to "resurface" his defense of Romney's 47% remarks, in the apparent belief that the re-run should make the Donald unelectable too.
They neglected to list the 6 things Hillary has done That Would Have Put Any Other Presidential Candidate in Jail, of course, but it's still fun to see just how out of their minds they've gone since they released Trump from the entertainment section.

I think I noted before that at Darwin's estate in Kent, they uncovered an outline of an early version of a lawn tennis court (Sphairistikè) that may have been laid out in some time after 1873 when Major Wingfield introducted the game to Englan as Indian Badminton or Lawn Racquets. My Great-Grand Uncle James provided all the equipment and promoted the first games out of his sports shop in Cheltenham.
BTW, have you ever visited Down House in Downe, Kent? It is an English Heritage listed venue and open to the public. Next time in Cambridge or Stanstead you can take the train down to London and swiitch over to trains out of Waterloo down to the estate.

Alll I did was sit at the table by the pool and drink water and watch. As a result of watching 11 13 y.o. boys play, joke around, horse around, etc. Eat Pizza, drink and have ice cream cake, I am exhausted. I can hardly down a vodka tonic or glass of wine.

And I thought the price was loony-tunes, but I figure Malone knows what he's doing.
I hope he dumps the "nontraditional" venues.

Malone and I got into a bidding contest for a painting or more illustrory an art work at a Energy Tribes dinner in Denver. Somehow on my megre income I prevailed but he came up to me and we discussed "the Chief" the potrait I purchased (on expense account, natch) or our office in DC. It told him we would put in the conference room. If anyone asked about it, I would tell them "never underestimate your competition". Malone asked me if he could use that in his correspondence to his investors.
My moment in billionaire sunshine:)

Gone at 85 isn't much consolation, AB.
His story isn't too far from Bill Gates's bumbling into a vast fortune.
Tried to sell the broadcast rights to all his competitors for a song once he acquired them but nobody was smart enough to buy so he was stuck with what turned into a billion dollar windfall.

King Harald of Norway has become an overnight Internet sensation after giving a speech urging Norwegians to welcome refugees into their country. Apparently, there has been strong opposition to his country's immigration policy. The King, of course, gave his speech from within the comfort and security of his royal palace grounds in Oslo.
Well, now we know where we can send all the would be immigrants who fail the attitude test.
