The Times helps Obama contemplate his climate change legacy and our energy future. The results are predictable - disturbing the Upper West Side readership is a no-no, so there is no mention of fracking, which has put more coal plants out of business than any Obama initiative. Also unmentioned (but you know this) is nuclear power and Obama's role, with Sen. Reid, in putting the kibosh on the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository.
Yeah, it's all anti-science Republicans bought out by the Koch brothers. Whatever.
As a diversion, they do offer up this bit of political analysis about Obama's inability to bring along his own part when he had a mere 59 Democratic Senators and control of the House:
Eight years ago, when Mr. Obama ran for president against Senator John McCain of Arizona, both men had essentially the same position on global warming: It is caused by humans, and Congress should enact legislation to cap greenhouse gas emissions and force polluters to buy and trade permits that would slowly lower overall emissions of climate-warming gases.
But in the summer of 2010, a cap-and-trade bill Mr. Obama had tried to push through Congress failed, blocked by senators from both parties.
“One would have hoped for transformational leadership, in the way J.F.K. would have done it,” said Hans Joachim Schellnhuber, the director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research in Germany.
Hmm, when your go-to guy for a quote on JFK's leadership is coming from Germany, that might be a red flag. Kennedy's civil rights initiatives were roughly as dead in Congress as Obama's cap-and-trade, but were eventually muscled through by Lyndon Johnson.
Oh, its the Times - let their readers have their fun.

The Czech girl Pliskova didn't really win but Willams lost because or her lethargic play. I am not a Williams Fan. I have always thought she was more intimidating than a technical player like Graf, Navritolova or Everrt. But a unexecpeted loss.

Pliskova has a strong game and took it to Serena. 6-2 in the first set, and with all the pressure she was able to keep it together in the 2nd. Yeah, Serena double faulted at match point and was hurting, but Pliskova pushed her, especially with her serve.

Yeah, and that guy was excellent. And her answer:
"...I communicated about classified material on a wholly separate system. I took it very seriously. When I traveled, I went into one of those little tents that I’m sure you’ve seen around the world because we didn’t want there to be any potential for someone to have embedded a camera to try to see whatever it is that I was seeing that was designated, marked, and headed as classified..."

I can understand that, henry. After I read the book, which I bought on Kindle, I saw some of the clips on-line at Amazon. As I said, the actors just weren't what I had imagined them to be, and some of the scenes in the clips weren't even in the book.
My SiL had a copy of the book on their coffee table, and I picked it up to browse through. She told me to take the book, but I prefer reading on Kindle. After I read the first two sentences in the book, I knew that this was going to be something special.
Andy Weir has talent, knowledge and humor, a great combination. I hope that he continues to write - not about the same characters - but along the lines of space exploration.

Barbara - I was just telling my students (9th grade) this today. We were talking about authors and their point of view and their motivation for writing a particular book. I suggested they also consider that when watching a movie. Often the writer's/producer's point is blatant and easily seen but at other times, they just slip little things into a movie that may seem innocuous but are not.
We attempt to teach our students to *think* and this is one thing I hope they take away after spending a year with me. They will hear it repeated numerous times.

While I was channel slumming on CNN, I saw Alberto Gonzalez, W's buddy and Attorney General, being interviewed by Anderson Cooper. He was on CNN to discuss his new book, "True Faith and Allegiance: A Story of Service and Sacrifice in War and Peace."
When asked about which candidate he supported in the presidential race, Gonzalez equivocated by saying that he was still studying the issues, and that although he is a Republican he would vote for the person that he thought was best for the country. He urged everyone else to do the same.
So, after a year or more of this campaign and the Clinton scandals, Gonzalez hasn't come to a decision on who should occupy the Oval Office for the next four years. He did not mention any concern about Hillary Clinton as Commander-In-Chief or her negligent-at-best handling of highly classified information. It seems that his "True Faith and Allegiance" only applies to Bush family members.

Momto2,
You're the only one standing there challenging them to "think" and to evaluate what film makers put up on the screen. Teachers are on the front lines when it comes to the preservation of freedom. Unfortunately, the left has understood this for a long time, and has used the classroom as a weapon against the very way of life that we treasure.
With you challenging them throughout the school year to think and evaluate what they see rather than just accept what's put before them on the Internet or in books and film, they'll remember. They'll remember the challenge, and they'll remember you.

Congressman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) was on Lou Dobbs tonight. He said that the FBI did not investigate the destruction of Clinton's emails on her private server. They only investigated issues related to the classification of documents and the distribution and retention of those documents on Hillary Clinton's private server.
I did not realize that before. When you look at the 26 details that Clinton could not recall that Janet listed last night, none of them related to the destruction of those 30,000+ emails. Congressman Jordan and Dobbs went on to discuss an intra-office email/memo recently sent out by Comey to calm the waters within the FBI by those dissatisfied with the decision not to seek and indictment against Clinton saying that they did not have a prosecutable case. I highly doubt that the memo resolved any conflicts within the agency regarding Comey's caving on this matter.

Ig, I've never been naive, but I'm somewhat stunned at how COMPLETE the GESTAPO has silenced the MEDIA. I asked a friend last night, " IS THE ENTIRE MEDIA ...THAT....DISHONEST??? I mean, don't any of these bastards recognize their own STENCH?"
He looked at me, took a sip of his beer and said. NO. They're ALL SCUM.
Rodham is dead-to-rites CAUGHT. And NOTHING is done. I keep thinking of NIXON and SPECIAL PROSECUTORS. This DISEASE of MARXISM, is ALL IN. And I coined the term THE FULL COMMIE.
No fear of consequences, breeds some sick shit.

it's a coverup to start to finish, if nixon had been this able, agnew would have nominated by this point in 1976, or perhaps connelly,

Agnew had already gone to jail. IIRC.
Agnew was, like CAPN' and I....A Terp.
Agnew resigned in Oct 73. Nixon resigned in Aug of 74 if memory serves. Gerald Ford was never elected to anything other than 13 terms in Congress from Grand Rapids.
Rodham and B.J. "PUT SOME ICE ON THAT" Billy are CRIMINALS on a whole NEW level.

The Obama cabal & Clinton gang, like the Bloods and the Crips, have united to ravage our Republic. How totally disgusting that the congressional GOP have allowed them get away with their destruction. And I will never forgive the Bush & Romney families for aiding and abetting the election of Hillary Rodham Clinton. Spit!
Never thought I could feel such anger and shame for our country, waiting for some sort of justice for these miserable tyrants.

GUS - that is great! Tell him to save his notes. He might see some of the same books in college. Does he know how fast he reads? I suggest they find out as it helps them plan out their schedule each week.
This is a resource to check reading speed: http://mindbluff.com/askread2.htm

Great GREAT advice Momto2. I've REQUIRED him to read every day of his life. I love reading. My boy tolerates it, but he has extremely good comprehension, and despite not relishing it like I did at his age, he retains, comprehends and loves to chat about it.

Quinnipiac has Trump +4 in OH today. Suffolk has him +3 in NC. Apparently short, fat commies don't run well in battleground states.

Speaking of movies, "Sully" is opening and I think I'll skip it. How do you make a feature-length movie about an event that basically started an ended in 10 minutes, with no conspiracy or bad guys? From what I read, the screenplay writers decided to make up some villains--the FAA investigators--out of whole cloth.

JimmyK, perhaps the FAA DUDES were Republicans.

That is the best, GUS! Talking about what he is reading (really delving into it and asking probing questions) will be a great investment of your time. Shared literature experiences bring people together on a different level. My children and I still quote lines to one another that probably make no sense to others. It almost gives you a secret language to share. I wish all parents would do this. He is a lucky young man!

I'll skip the flick as well, jimmyk. Just as I've skipped almost every flick for about the last 15 years. I loathe Hollywood with the intensity of 20 thousand suns.

so when the two minute hate, lasts longer than that, I become curious, is there is a larger agenda,

Dad passed away in N.C. 3 years ago. When Gus Jr. was a wee laddie, Dad bought him a CAROLINA PANTHERS PARKA. Bad Daddy Bad.
Younger Bro, Cop in Denver is a PACKERS fan like me. Never bought my boy BRONCO'S stuff.
GOOD BROTHER. He has season tickets for the Bronco's, but is a PACKER in his heart and soul.
I hate it, but I rooted for Denver. What a game.
