I didn't want to be presumptuous.

Akmed from Boise was first, but he's hiding from eric.

Appalled (Alt-Moderate)

Maybe I'm fourth.

Eric in Boise

Grumble, grumble. If Boiseans don't cotton to Akmed and his compadres, it won't be due to a shortage of effort from our local fishwrap. The stories about how grateful our new friends are to be here and the wonderful things they're all doing are becoming pervasive.

I don't care if the fertilizer will help my lawn. Get off it anyway.

Grumble, grumble.

henry

LOL Eric. Sounds like a good way to become a former fishwrap.

JM Hanes

This is probably more appropriate for JOM Late Night, but it was inspired by Miss Marple's link to the Queen's wardrobe:

Not that I'd call the Queen a fashion icon, but white hair definitely helps the look.

I see the following:

Speaking of preening jackasses, Kasich has proven to be even worse than Buckeye, Ann and I informed you non Ahians, no? I have no idea where that goof intends to park his carpetbag in two years when he's mercifully term limited out, but since LaTourette was dispatched to Hell there's an opening in a RINO stink tank in case he accurately realizes how much the voters hate a back stabber.

I suspect the preening jackass has already cut a deal with a future employer, and this is the position on TPP he was told to take.

Mercifully, when he was with Lehman, he stayed out of the limelight.

Hopefully with his next gig he will do the same, and just fall off the radar.

Lol, Beasts. Sounds like you're in good company.

I was so not paying attention, that I completely missed Michelle's dress for Obama's 2nd inaugural, which was whole 'nother kind of awful in it own right. I'll spare you that vision in scarlet. For more on Michelle's fashionista "Basket of Deplorables," there's the link Momto2 posted to MICHELLE OBAMA'S MIRROR in the previous thread — where Trump's comment on the Ford's moving production facilities south of the border also turned up:

It used to be, cars were made in Flint and you couldn't drink the water in Mexico. Now, the cars are made in Mexico and you cannot drink the water in Flint.
Alas.

JM Hanes

I trust y'all can auto-correct all my typos on your own devices, as it were.

Beasts of England

Between whole 'nother and y'all, I gotta ask where you're from JMHanes...

from the previous thread, you're welcome JM Hanes.

Also, need to refresh my memory: in the weeks leading up to the weird near faceplant during the 9/11 services, had Hillary been taking time off the campaign trail maybe some fundraisers, but otherwise out of sight? I seem to recall she was taking 4 days off and this was after having taken a few days off.

and the Hillary campaign going after Pepe: wtf?

James D

Buckeye @ 11:05

I suspect you're exactly right.

I just don't understand how anyone who wasn't actually involved in drafting TPP could possibly be in favor of approving it now.

The track record of Obama administration foreign negotiations is horrifying at best, so the fact that it's his people who negotiated it is reason enough on its face to say no to it.

The fact that all the details are being kept in strict secrecy is equally damning. If it's beneficial to the American people on balance, then that will be clear in the text and conditions of the agreement. Since they're not willing to let anyone see that text or those conditions, it tells me that the treaty is in no way beneficial to most Americans.

It's a pretty straightforward argument: if it's really a good treaty, if more Americans and American businesses will benefit from it than will be harmed by it, then let us read the damn thing and see for ourselves.

We tried "you have to pass it to see what's in it" once already, and we saw how well that worked out. How any Republican can stand there and try to sell that to voters again is beyond me.

had Hillary been taking time off the campaign trail maybe some fundraisers, but otherwise out of sight?

Yes, she had been conspicuously absent for much of August.

The first week of September we had the Journolist "she's not hiding, she's debate prepping!" narrative.

The week of 9/11 was her "return to the campaign" week; oops.

You don't have to click but you can always count on AP for the trenchant analysis like this:

The media oohed and ahhed over his press conference with the president of Mexico simply because Trump managed to avoid embarrassing himself. The same rule will probably be in effect at the debates. If he announces that he has to fart but will hold it out of respect for the dignity of the forum, he probably wins for having behaved “presidentially.”

Beasts:

Ha! I was uprooted from New England ('druthers) and transplanted to the Carolinas (y'all), with a brief childhood stint in Iowa. Returned to Massachusetts for college, spent a few obligatory post-grad years in the Big Apple, before marriage took me south again, where I've basically lived, in multiple undisclosed locations, ever since. Everybody else in my immediate family (including my parents) eventually headed back up north, which is where we always spent Thanksgiving, among assorted other family holidays.

I trust that explains everything. :-)

We moved south at the very beginning of what would later become a wave of business relocations to "the sun belt." For a goodly while we were one of only two yankee families in town. I've always felt like I got to see and be part of a south that was soon to disappear. Actually, I feel that way about a number of lives I've lived, so to speak, but perhaps that's true of everyone, once they approach a certain age.

With family in both north and south, my children have inexplicably headed west....

The athletic conference’s crackdown comes after fans from a predominantly black school took offense after fans from a predominantly white school displayed a Betsy Ross flag and a “Make America Great Again” banner.

It is rumored that Ginsburg was more competent than president Béla Lugosi. And just as sane. 97% of Democrats believe ISIS has been contained and the 3% left believe that Trump has been contained. 100% of Democrats believe that Obamacare is cheaper today than it was in 1955. 97% of #NeverTrumpers believe that Mitt Romney has a great chance of beating Hillary of we let him run. Great CNBC editorial: Trump is doing everything right

http://www.cnbc.com/2016/09/16/trump-is-doing-everything-right-including-letting-jimmy-fallon-mess-up-his-hair-commentary.html

Ten-point surges don't just happen overnight. It's much more likely that Trump's relative weakness in the earlier polls was a result of voters leaning towards him, but not being ready to say so... even to anonymous pollsters. But Trump's softened messages, Clinton's "deplorables" comment, and her medical scare with frightening video of her looking totally immobilized to go with it have all provided those voters the excuse to finally "come out" for Trump. This phenomenon is well named by Dilbert cartoonist and blogger Scott Adams, who calls these events the "fake because." They're "fake" because the voters were always going to vote a certain way, but highly visible episodes make it possible to say: "well, now I'm voting for candidate X because..."

This is more bad news for the Clinton camp, because this means the Trump surge is not the result of some kind of ephemeral or fickle trend. Instead it's more like the gates of a dam opening that cannot be closed. And it makes sense from another historical/logical point of view. Hillary Clinton has essentially had 24 years in the national spotlight to close the deal with the majority of the voting American public and she's never done it. Even at the zenith of her polling fortunes earlier this summer, she never broke into truly unbeatable territory on her own. She had been simply skating on the extreme unfavorable impressions for Trump, and now that we're seeing that erode, Clinton may be trapped for good.

The preference cascade is finally happening. The media threw everything they had at him for over a year and it didn't work. Their powers are greatly diminished, at least as far as this candidate is concerned. It's over IMO.

lyle

If you click on that link, JMH, don't die from laughter at this post:

DebinNC, maybe I misread you and we agree. Where indeed does the line get drawn?

I don't have much sympathy or understanding for the "X is offensive to me because it happened while my ancestors were slaves" view, but it seems to me that under those critieria the Stars and Stripes should be nixed if the Betsy Ross flag is nixed. And that would be insane.

Porchlight

They're all in different stages, jimmyk, but I think the media talking heads you see most often on the teevee are still in denial and anger, if today is any indication.
