Via Politico, President Selfie rallies support for Hillary:
An angry Obama puts himself on the ballot
The president delivers a rip-roaring speech to the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation dinner.
The NY Times puts it differently:
Obama Sees ‘Personal Insult’ if Blacks Don’t Rally for Hillary Clinton
By Amy Chozick and Julie Jirschfeld Davis Sept 18 2016
With Democratic leaders increasingly worried about a lack of passion for Hillary Clinton among young black voters, President Obama is rolling out a new and more personal campaign message: “It’s about me.”
The president told African-Americans this weekend he would consider it a “personal insult” if they did not vote for Mrs. Clinton, implicitly putting his name on the line as his former secretary of state struggles to replicate the coalition that delivered him victories in 2008 and 2012.
Isn't suggesting that Hillarity! can't get this done without a man's help like, sexist, or mansplaining, or something? Libs! Who can keep up?
Donna Brazile, no mansplainer she, conforms to gender stereotypes by botching a sports metaphor:
“That speech went beyond the room. It went beyond the moment,” said Donna Brazile, the interim chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee. “That was the president essentially saying, ‘Don’t leave it on the field.’”
Say what? "Don't leave it on the field" might be advice you give to an absent-minded eight year old who is constantly losing his (or her!) baseball mitt. In the heat of athletic competition the conventional exhortation is to deliver a maximum effort by leaving everything on the field. Sort of like, well, a manager telling a pitcher to give the team one more inning and empty the tank (a car and gasoline metaphor, for the Uber-addicted among us).
Now to be fair, a less common meaning of "leave it on the field" is to leave the past in the past - you lost, the refs were dreadful, your opponents cheated, the field was muddy, but it's over so move on. Tomorrow is another day!
So maybe Ms. Brazile meant that Obama's supporters should not leave "it" (The election? Obama's legacy?) on the field because the game is not over. That is a pretty subtle reminder.
I'll admit the vitriol runs both ways, for ill sadly, because it keeps us from focusing on the main target, the red queen dreadnought,
the progressives understand that the maintenance of political power, is not an end in itself, but the
key to a fundamental transformation of society, too many on our side, seem to miss that,

I resent the idea that I am anti-gay. My nephew is gay and in a long-time partnership with a wonderful guy. Because they realize there are Catholics in the family they were considerate enough to be married in California, and then had a reception here, which I attended.
My granddaughter, whom I took in at her mother's request, is gay, which was the cause of friction with her mother.
I rarely talk about this personal stuff, but I am posting this to demonstrate that the judgements people make about Trump supporters is without merit.

I sympathize. I caught a lot of flack for saying I supported Trump.
I am over it, because I think I made the right decision.
I think he will win this thing. He's smarter than the NRO people give him credit for, and he truly loves this country.
His policies for the most part I can support, and the few I am iffy about are not deal-breakers.
If he loses, it will be because the GOP didn't present a united front. I am hopeful that the Reagan democrats help us out.

The family quarrel here got ugly quick. I understand not liking Trump, and not trusting Trump. He is putting out reasonable policies for all but reining in government (welfare stuff, the child care entitlement is a big problem here), provided we believe he'll follow through instead of negotiating who knows where. Hillary is a corrupt disaster on steroids. Never Trump means Hillary-- simple math in our two party system. I don't get the personal insults flying around about it.
Posted by: henry the deplorable | September 20, 2016 at 07:59 PM
I have put the NeverTrumpers into categories, moving from least to most *deplorable!*
1 - Those who for some reason will not vote at all or will vote 3rd party but don't talk politics.
2 - Those who will quietly vote for Clinton but don't tell anyone.
3 - Those who are average, everyday citizens who spout off on SM posting disparaging stories, lies about Trump, etc. and will vote 3rd party or for HRC.
4 - Elected GOP officials who don't say anything publically but do not support Trump. (I had Bush 41 in this category - I don't think he expected Kathleen Kennedy to make headlines for him)
5 - Elected GOP officials who are publically stating they won't vote for Trump, making statements which are used in HRC's campaign ads, who use any real or imagined circumstance to rush to a microphone to denounce Trump.
BUT THE WORST BY FAR:
6 - The GOP presidential candidates who took $ from the GOP and signed a pledge to support the nominee and now have broken that pledge and publically made a spectacle of themselves which the MSM gleefully reports ad nauseum.
Those are my .02 about the whole gang of them!

Iggy, those are good points. Maybe I'm too hung up about it.
But here's how I see it. Trump is Jack Aubrey, and those who wish he was Stephen Maturin are missing a great deal. Aubrey has his faults, but his virtues are not limited to those he shares with Maturin, and vice versa.
After all, Stephen was a down and out failed revolutionary until Jack found him and put him to work defeating Napoleon. Absent the Jacks of the world, there is no victory. Absent the Stephens of the world, there is still a chance of it.
Lamenting the unStephenness of Jack doesn't get us very far. Decius gets this, but he really would have a greater understanding if he would open his eyes and heart to Jack in full.

Yes, Matt, I realize that and I also understand Bush's feelings about his Jeb!'s dismal showing. Those feelings are hard for any parent to overcome. I think he was squarely a 2 on my scale until he was "outed" by a Kennedy.
What an embarrassment that Haiti effort must be to the Bushes! I do not put them in the category of the Clintons by any means. I do not believe he would willingly participate in a scam that took advantage of the Haitian people.
I wonder if he has ever privately commented on Obama's presidency? If so, those remarks aren't likely to be trumpeted by a Kennedy or any other D.

Tit for tat can be suboptimal in a family quarrel Beasts.
I can't judge "fightin' words" in either directing. Might have tossed a few myself. My preference in these matters is to remember the common ground usually exceeds the dispute, and worry about grievances later if at all. remove egos, the two sides are closer than they admit.
Plus we learned the real difference is the globalist agenda vs American Exceptionalism and individual initiative. Whichever side you end up on that, it is helpful to know the players.

Over the past month -- the first month that Donald Trump has run any ads at all -- Hillary Clinton and PACs supporting her have run 70 percent of the ads that ran in the most popular markets. Trump, and groups supporting him, have run 30 percent.
And what's happened over the past month in polling? Trump has gained ground in the polls.

I love your Aubrey/Maturin comparison.
Ditto, daddy.

He said that the #NeverTrumper's were now in the position of being stuck where they are because of emotions and feelings, not because of thoughtful argument.
Sounds like the position the #NeverBirthers put themselves in when they argued for dual citizens to be Commander in Chief of The United States Armed Forces.

gtr, what I mean is so many who accost pols are irrational and adamant and if you see this hundreds of times a week, you grow to dislike crowds of them.

I love hermits but as I get older, I can't eat raisins without a stomach ache. My husband and I are blessed with two granddaughters and two grandsons - and another grandchild due in May. All of the little ones are under the age of five. Like Rocco, I pray for their future and wonder why so many are willing to place their trust in a dishonest and untrustworthy person like Hillary. What will the future hold for my grandchildren if we don't stop the madness now??

Thanks daddy and Kat.
JohnH and Dave (in MA) - I knew our New England peeps would love hermits.
Beasts, they are a spice cookie, usually bar form, with raisins and/or nuts. A bit chewy and very old-fashioned.

Is Something Wrong With Hillary Clinton's Eyes?!?
Her frickin left eye goes 'boing' every time she looks to the left.
How's she gonna catch the nuclear football if she sees two of them?

I was not aware they were a regional thing.
They're better when they're made as individual cookies and not cut from a sheet.

Thanks beasts...Hermit bars are chewy molasses bars or cookies and I can remember my grandmother giving my sister and I a hermit bar with half a glass of ginger ale way back when. Then we got the I raised 5 kids during the depression speech, heh.
