Via Politico, President Selfie rallies support for Hillary:
An angry Obama puts himself on the ballot
The president delivers a rip-roaring speech to the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation dinner.
The NY Times puts it differently:
Obama Sees ‘Personal Insult’ if Blacks Don’t Rally for Hillary Clinton
By Amy Chozick and Julie Jirschfeld Davis Sept 18 2016
With Democratic leaders increasingly worried about a lack of passion for Hillary Clinton among young black voters, President Obama is rolling out a new and more personal campaign message: “It’s about me.”
The president told African-Americans this weekend he would consider it a “personal insult” if they did not vote for Mrs. Clinton, implicitly putting his name on the line as his former secretary of state struggles to replicate the coalition that delivered him victories in 2008 and 2012.
Isn't suggesting that Hillarity! can't get this done without a man's help like, sexist, or mansplaining, or something? Libs! Who can keep up?
Donna Brazile, no mansplainer she, conforms to gender stereotypes by botching a sports metaphor:
“That speech went beyond the room. It went beyond the moment,” said Donna Brazile, the interim chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee. “That was the president essentially saying, ‘Don’t leave it on the field.’”
Say what? "Don't leave it on the field" might be advice you give to an absent-minded eight year old who is constantly losing his (or her!) baseball mitt. In the heat of athletic competition the conventional exhortation is to deliver a maximum effort by leaving everything on the field. Sort of like, well, a manager telling a pitcher to give the team one more inning and empty the tank (a car and gasoline metaphor, for the Uber-addicted among us).
Now to be fair, a less common meaning of "leave it on the field" is to leave the past in the past - you lost, the refs were dreadful, your opponents cheated, the field was muddy, but it's over so move on. Tomorrow is another day!
So maybe Ms. Brazile meant that Obama's supporters should not leave "it" (The election? Obama's legacy?) on the field because the game is not over. That is a pretty subtle reminder.
I love the smell of Dem desperation in the morning, James D!!

Dana Milbank - "How Trump winks at political violence"
Political violence is what Trump supporters had to endure while trying to emerge alive from "the gauntlet of death" after the Trump rally in Asheville last week. The lefty police chief was proud of the result of his order for police to stand and watch as anti-Trumpites verbally intimidated and physically manhandled elderly Trump attendees.

More and more the cheaper construction pieces hit the market. A classmate of mine ran a furniture store for years carrying many fine brands. He threw in the towel and retired about 5 years ago. People couldn't afford the nice stuff and he didn't want to deal with the imports.
The same thing happened out here, MM. There was a lovely furniture store in Montrose called Pennsylvania House. It had been the area for well over 40 years, and sold high quality merchandise.
We had been thinking about buying a different style dining room set, so one morning I called the store to get an idea of the line of furniture they had now. A man, I'd say in his 30s answered, and he told me that the store had closed. The shoddy imports under-priced the quality of the product they carried. When they brought in those imports, they had nothing but complaints from their customers. They couldn't compete with the trash coming in from the far east, so they decided to close the store.
He was the son of the owner, and said that he had planned to be in that business for the rest of his life. Now, he was going to have to go into real estate. He was only there that morning to clear up some paperwork. I could hear the sorrow in his voice, and I felt it as well. I told him how much we had appreciated his beautiful family store, and would miss it. I wished him and his family well.
That had to be about nine years ago. It was the start of businesses closing, and has only escalated since to what we see today. THAT is the legacy of the Obama administration. This is what they intended to happen. They wanted to destroy the engine that makes America great, and to roll up the unemployed into low paying menial or government jobs because there was no where else to go.

--or as I suspect, the FBI and NYPD had a pretty good idea who it was in the minutes after the bomb went off.--
And this right there is why radical jihadism cannot be treated as a law enforcement problem. Because the NYPD and the FBI can keep watch lists but they still have to wait until the perps actually commit a crime before they can do anything pro-active to stop it. If you treat the problem as a war and the jihadists as enemy combatants you can at least kick their asses out of the country before they kill people.

derwill,
They can and do conduct "anti-terrorism activities" for want of a better expression. The success of any program depends on the effort that's put into it, and that depends on the political leadership of the country as well as that of each jurisdiction.
DebinNC gave a good example of that above at 12:58 when she noted the inaction of the police chief in Ashville. The same thing happened in Baltimore. I would bet anything that those officers wanted to get in there and restore order.

Speaking of unnecessary regulations, back in the 90's the furniture manufacturers were forced by the EPA to quit using their traditional lacquer and use a new, water-based finish.
Finishes peeled and didn't have the luster of the older pieces. Thomasville Furniture had a real problem with it and I don't think it ever was as good a finish as the older lacquer.
Lots of money lost (and jobs, eventually) with that one regulation alone.

Uh-oh . . . the prezzie's rewriting history again.
oBOzo told the U.N. today that in the last eight years:
"We have taken away terrorist safe havens around the world" and "We have resolved the Iranian nuclear issue through diplomacy."
Guess he missed that whole thing about the creation/rise/expansion of ISIS across the ME, Africa and the Asian sub-continent in the last four years.
As for Iran, his definition of 'resolved' wrt to Iran's nuclear 'issue' brings to mind the famous line from The Princess Bride:
. . . and don't get me started on his claim to believe in a liberalism "that respects the rule of law."
History will not consider him a president who paid fealty to the rule of law.
btw, heard a guest on FNC that described oBOzo's version of foreign policy as a naive kind of 'diplomacy through concession' in the hope of inducing our enemies to think better of us.
That's one of the better descriptions I've heard of his vaunted FP outreach.

I was thinking that the furniture side conversation was touching upon what we were talking about a few threads back too. I think part of the answer I'm thinking of is that companies are looking to shrink the deadweight loss of noncash compensation of their labor force ... the easiest way to do so is through contractors. Another driver of technology is that it is a way to deliver products using low skilled labor[*].
*overly broad at this point in my brainstorming: think of it as a shift of the skill going to the machine and the machine operator only having to focus on a single, simple task.
I com back to this quote from Rothbard too: "The general atmosphere of a "seller-market" will lead to a decline in the quality of goods and services to consumers, since consumers often resist price increases less when they occur in the form of downgrading quality. The quality of work will decline in an inflation for a more subtle reason: people become enamored of "get rich quick" schemes, seemingly within their grasp in an era of ever-rising prices, and often scorn sober effort."
Apply that to furniture in North Carolina or an air conditioner maker in Indiana.

Listening to Rush in Hour 2 go thru VDH's excellent NRO column attacking the Never Trumpers: Never NeverTrump
Dennis Prager made an interesting point I thought very valid last night.
He said that the #NeverTrumper's were now in the position of being stuck where they are because of emotions and feelings, not because of thoughtful argument.
That reminded me that Kevin Williamson's initial diatribes against Trump fans was because they were all stupid locals who only liked Trump because of feelings, not because of any thoughtful argument. We were too stupid to let logic rule and just went with emotion.
Now Dennis Prager is saying, that the roles have been reversed. The #NeverTrumper's have painted themselves into such a pretzel logic corner, that all they have left to fall back on is their feelings, their emotions, not their logic, because their logic now demands that they vote for Trump or hand the country over to the worst enemy of Conservative logic ever. Kevin Williamson has become the epitome of what he said he despised in Trump fans---an emotional mess guided by feelings alone, but not by thought.
Posted by: daddy | September 20, 2016 at 03:11 PM
Prager is right, daddy.
I said a couple of days ago that I felt sorry for NeverTrumpers because they dug into a position early and now can't abandon it for fear of looking foolish. They know they're wrong now, but the worst of them still can't manage to get over it.
The thing is, they are not only doing the wrong thing, they are missing out on all the fun.
Decius has a really good grasp of all of this. But even he falls back on some of the NeverTrump tropes now and again.
Posted by: Porchlight | September 20, 2016 at 03:17 PM
Quite right, daddy. Head over to Patterico and witness the emotionalism and pretzel logic displayed on each Trump thread. They screwed up when they declared 'never', and then they lacked the simple courage to say that they made a mistake. It's sickening.

rich:
I was kidding and figured you were kidding, too as well, riffing of your tag.
Posted by: Appalled (Alt-Moderate) | September 20, 2016 at 03:23 PM
And to expand on Porch's point: they are indeed missing out on the fun of defeating Hillary - something we've all waited to do for decades - and that is compounding their anger, and making them even more prone to stupidity. I'd feel sorry for them, but they're playing an extraordinarily dangerous game.
Posted by: Beasts of England | September 20, 2016 at 03:24 PM
He said that the #NeverTrumper's were now in the position of being stuck where they are because of emotions and feelings, not because of thoughtful argument.
Wasn't an important part of the #NeverTrump argument that he can't win? Since that's obviously no longer true, that part of it evaporates, so you'd think honesty on their side would require recognition and reconsideration. But instead they are falling back on attacking his character and positions, never mind how those compare with the Harridan's.
Posted by: jimmyk | September 20, 2016 at 03:25 PM
The other crazy thing about NeverTrumpers is their insistence on bringing up facts that are about a hundred years old in election-years. Such as how Trump has been married three times, or that four of his businesses have gone bankrupt. Or they fall back on things like "He's just a stalking horse for Hillary" which is absurd on its face. It's like they're still stuck in October 2015.
AFAICT they're trapped in their grief reaction to not getting their white knight conservative candidate over the finish line. Worse for them, they are slowly waking up to the fact that there is no such thing as a perfect white knight conservative, and never will be.
Again, I recommend Decius on this:

Porch,
A friend asked me which of the "NeverTrumpers are still "NeverTrumpers, and had any fallen off the #NeverTrump bandwagon?
Beats me. I know that of the guys that post at NRO, Prager and VDH are not #NeverTrumpers, and I have to assume Andy McCarthy is not either, due to yesterdays excellent column. But that we are still asking that question is odd. My friend mentioned that Jonah and Rich Lowry seem to be sort of tending a bit from #NeverTrump, but my point is that these guys have the megaphones to explicitly state to the entire world at any time what their current thinking is, and if we are wondering where they currently sit it is because they are intentionally staying silent about it.
That, in my view, is intellectual cowardice. Time for NRO to come out and put the same list of names up there as they did months back and have them state their current
thoughts"feelings" on the matter, now that Trump has destroyed the Republican nomination field, won the Primary, and is gnawing at Hillary's cloven cankles like a Bronx Bulldog.Posted by: daddy | September 20, 2016 at 03:29 PM

I think in Williamson's case he was emotional at the start. He was never going to be argued out of his nevertrumpism.
Posted by: the generalisticly deplorable rich | September 20, 2016 at 03:29 PM
jimmyk, from the beginning, they've flipped back and forth from "oh no, he can't win!" to "oh no, he's going to win!" Now that it appears he in fact can win, they've had to jump permanently to the "he shouldn't win" lilypad.
That is, as you say, a precarious place to be, intellectually and morally, for people who have extolled the vices of Hillary Clinton for most of the last 25 years.
And it's not emotionally pleasant either, I can imagine. I'm glad I'm not there.

As far as I can see, it's mainly male jealousy cloaked in conservative double-talk. Williamson grew up in a small Texas town and is not from a wealthy background. So in that paragraph we see:
1. Jealousy about money and th ebeginings Fred Trump gave his son.
2. Disdain for running hotels and casinos, which made Trump a lot of money.
3. Jealousy about Trump's fame from The Apprentice.
4. Burning jealousy that Teump is married to a super model who, as far as I know, hasn't had much plastic surgery and is pretty swell looking, if you ask me.
Not a pretty site.
I note that when they ran that issue they had several "guest stars" like Glenn Beck and Dana Loesch. Beck has descended into madness and sees his empire crumbling into, dare I say it, BANKRUPTCY and I heard Dana Loesch ranting on the radio yesterday (for only a small time as I changed the channel) that those rallies meant NOTHING, NOTHING I SAY as it doesn't tell you who will win, referring to Romney as an example.
I wonder if Rich Lowry would like to have those two do another guest article now.

He didn't?
In that interview which I was mostly thinking of when I wrote that comment, he didn't IMO.

Was that spew courtesy of Williamson, rich?

damn it. damn it. damn it.

I wasn't familiar with Williamson until he raised his profile by going NeverTrump. The above quote imo makes him seem jealous, petty, a poor judge of character, but at least I know his name. In case that's been his main objective, "Good job, Kev!"

beasts-
it was Williamsons' first column the day Trump announced.
any yes that was a period after ape. But the second sentence drags on quite a while.

I can't even mention this level of incompetence, I guess all the horses had fled,

Anyone believe Hilligula is capable of a little rope-a-dope?

That's funny, Miss Marple. Romney had one or two rallies with yuge attendance. Trump has held dozens of such rallies in different states over an eight month period. Dana has lost her precious little mind if she thinks it doesn't matter...

Oh. Not sure that's fair depending on what the questions were and considering space or time limitations on most interviews.
His fuller views of Trump are in his many essays on the race.

MM, I would say severe male jealousy if he described Melania Trump as a 'plastic-surgery-disaster '.

Bean boots fit with the floods texas has been having. Hope he made them hi-tops.
First christmas my eldest could not get home I bought red a pair of bean boots and then deducted his account as I warned him I would do. She spent all four years of college proud to be wearing those bean boots "from her brother."
The diva got a lovely bathrobe from saks that I noticed has gone to college with her.
Now he just tells me to shop for "the girls" and to take it out of his account.

don't want to link it, but the title is “Witless Ape Rides Escalator" for those interested.

Williamsom is as small, petty, and intellectually challenged as King Putt.

Maybe it was a tiny fig.

Have you seen a picture of Williamson? Ha! I doubt he's ever gotten any without the assistance of a financial transaction.

I'd say she's halfway there.

lyle,
I am sure they will try something like that, as well as a fabricated personal attack.
The thing is, I don't think Trump is unprepared for such maneuvers. He's not one to be cowed into silence, false accusations will be met with him calling her a liar to her face (and giving NUMEROUS examples of other lies). If she tries to paint him into a corner with accusing him of bankruptcy, he can bring up the Haiti mess and the watered down AIDS vaccine.
He isn't going into this like Mr. Milquetoast Mitt Romney. He wants to win this and if it takes streetfighting to do it, he will.
I am also sure Lester Holt will try to play the race card. I don't think that will work either.

Lord lowers the boom on Williamson and his debutantes.
But don't worry, this country can survive
foureight more years of Hilligula's wicked blend of incompetence, viciousness, vindictiveness, and imperiousness...Posted by: lyle | September 20, 2016 at 04:12 PM
I'm hoping Lester Dolt will try to play the space alien card, MM2.

rse,the Bean execs also gave him a pair of moccasin slippers and his Secret Service agents received shirts. I think he'll be wearing the slippers more than the boots, because he uses a wheelchair.
L.L.Bean is an experience. When we drive to Portland, hubby usually encourages me to take a nap about the time we reach Augusta. That way,he can keep driving on 95 and avoid 295. Or as the daughter used to say,are we going the L.L.Bean way? Ha.

"The Comeback Kid" gambit worked for BC in 2004. "The Wounded Bird" gambit might have worked for Hillary if she hadn't combined the coughing and curb-diving with vicious name-calling of Americans whose unforgivable sin is preferring Donald Trump over her. She's a vulture and sees non-supporters as carrion.

lyle-
ugggh. maybe. maybe a little too far. I suppose Team Coven could roll out Hillary v6.6.6build666 (less Human, more Satan) but I think the vids of all her bizarre eye twitching, barely about to scale stairs, and coughing fits militates against anything like that. I don't doubt the media will portray her making it though without any sort of incident as courageous and heroic.
