Trump, like Reagan, is an alpha. Unlike Reagan, he's not a conservative so much as a populist. I'm hoping he and Ted Cruz have a strong working relationship.

Porchlight, you simply would not believe how psychologically difficult these last 8 years have been. The people I love most are virtually all on the other side and being on the "wrong" racial team is more than a notion, trust me when I tell ya.

To have complete faith in country and to never have had a doubt that a black man *could* be elected President when others in my circle, far too glib about their blessings, insisted it was impossible: well, vindication was equal parts sweet and exasperating and bewildering.

To sit in my Florida Room on January 20, 2009 and watch the inauguration . . . tough, tough, tough. There was our famous Florida A&M University Marching 100 Band highlighted in the parade and I couldn't share in the joy. You just can't believe how tough the whole of it was. And I kept saying to friends, who could only see the historic positive arising from the moment . . . what if he's an abject failure?

And, of course, here we are. Many *do* consider him an abject failure. I'm not so sure about that but he certainly has been equal parts disappointment and failure. I've come out on the other side, so-to-speak, of the "no love for Obama" opposition with my sanity intact and my faith rock solid. I've absorbed much ridicule (I know, I know - boo*FREAKIN*hoo) but I've not been given a burden I could not, and did not, bear.

Now, fully cognizant that I'm not advocating the election of a Pope, Bishop or Rabbi, I'm placing my political faith in Donald J. Trump and hoping he proves worthy of that faith.

That's a long way of saying, Porchlight, this Protestant boy has been in eight years of what has seemed like a false yet nevertheless *enforced* political purgatory. I thought Marco Rubio would be the one to lift the veil of ignorance that had descended upon us and assist me in my freedom quest. I still marvel tonight that I am quite pleased to find it is, in fact, Donald J. Trump instead.

Our Local 10 PM News up here tells us that both our Senators (Lisa Murkowski and Dan Stevens) have resigned from their State GOP Leadership positions in protest over The State GOP's support for Donald Trump.

Murkowski, Sullivan resign GOP posts over Trump tape

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) Alaska's two U.S. senators resigned leadership posts in the state Republican party in denouncing GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump.

Robert Dillon, a spokesman for Sen. Lisa Murkowski, says Murkowski and Sen. Dan Sullivan voluntarily resigned over the weekend as honorary members of the party's state central committee.

Murkowski on Saturday called on Trump to step aside as the party's nominee after a 2005 video surfaced in which Trump made lewd comments about women. Sullivan, meanwhile, withdrew his support of Trump.

State GOP chairman Tuckerman Babcock says Murkowski and Sullivan hold the committee posts by virtue of their holding elected office and would have those positions restored after the election.

What a pair of spineless a@@holes.


While it is straightforward enough for the GOP mainstream to separate itself from Trump and his supporters, it is less apparent how they will deal with the fact that Trump's primary victory shows even the GOP no longer cares about right-wing Christianity, supply-side economics and global military intervention.
In other words, the biggest faction within the party has rejected the three most fundamental principles of the party itself in favor of white nationalism.
That's a terminal split, no matter how you spin it...

I think I have mentioned before my eldest was a 'wet lung' baby and spent first night in nicu. He was the biggest thing in there at 8.5 pounds. He had a collapsed lung so hubby put the antique heirloom wicker bassinet up on phone books and paint cans to ease breathing and gradually lowered it over the first week to 10 days home.

During that time period one of the cats brought a present of a stunned but still alive chipmunk (not an outdoor cat so ?) and placed it at the foot of the bassinet.

Good morning!

You know, the GOP has lost me. Remember, one of the reasons Trump won the nomination (and the primary one, if you ask me) is that he listened to the people and spoke for them. For 8 years no one had defended us.

We now see they won't defend their own candidate. Pathetic losers. That explanation reads to me like someone who is trying to find an excuse for the disavowals since it has backfired on down ticket candidates who did so.

If Trump was dropping out, wouldn't it have made sense for them to wait for the announcement, rather than running for the cameras? I also make note here of the early tweets by Romney and Jeb, as well as the uniforrm disavowal of the Utah delegation which is not following the wishes of the voters of Utah, who still support Trump.

If you ask me that explanation offered at anonamom's link does not sound to me like what happened. If Ryan actually LIED to the House then he will have to go tomorrow. Louis Gohmert and Steve King would have said somoething in their interviews, too.

MM, re your handgun question, perhaps I'm reading too far between lines, but if something acute has occurred that led you to that, please consider involving police. (Had to lead with that.)

If you have experience with pistols and how to carry them, the remaining question is if you want/need an external safety. I opt no, and am a Glock guy (well, was one until the canoeing accident), but always in a quality holster that covers the trigger. If you'd like one, several quality brands are out there, most have been mentioned by others.

If not (yes, you mentioned the carry permit, but where I got my first one you didn't even have to show you owned a gun), please consider a revolver. Snub nose .38 might be a good choice.

If you have some time, try to find a range that rents guns and try out a couple-three before buying.

I realize your budget may be limited, but don't skimp - you want some confidence that it'll go bang if your life depends on it.

Yeah, Buckeye, if you look at photos of Obama's OSU rally in 2012 at almost the same spot on campus, it's about four times the size at least, and he supposedly had 15k.

Also rumors on campus that some instructors gave extra credit for attending, lol.


Notice what they've done with the L.A. Times poll (you'll never convince me this wasn't planned). My particular focus of course is the black vote, and that is where they are doing some major playing around.

They want us to believe Trump has dropped from 18% support down to 5%. Hmmmmmm. This means she has as much support as 2012 Barack Obama.

What idiot believes this? As a reminder, do consider this as we sprint to the finish of this Presidential election cycle (percent of the black vote in recent elections):

2012: 93-6, Obama

2008: 95-4, Obama

2004: 88-11, Kerry

2000: 90-9, Gore

And the percentages don't *really* tell the story. It's the combination of percentage vote and turnout. Clearly, history says she won't get the percentage and she won't get the turnout. Yet, they are unquestionably baking in Obama percentages *and* turnout -- there's no way in hell that's happening.

Black people by and large love Bill. They by and large simply tolerate Hillary, which means her level of personal support is probably *less* than that of Kerry or Gore.

Ten percent is Trump's absolute floor; he likely gets 20% (or slightly more) of the black vote. Any poll that represents something different is a damn lie.

I know they are planning some massive fraud; I know that's why they are systematically presenting poll results with Obama percentages and turnout. An infuriating Byron York tweet yesterday tells you everything you need to know. That's why we need to present a drumbeat of the historic numbers.

That's why Trump needs to publicly call into question the internal components of these polls at the next debate. There's a reason why these pollsters aren't curious about black enthusiasm (meaning, the lack thereof) for Hillary. In a state like Pennsylvania and Ohio, 25% of their vote total is incredibly important. Lose turnout and lose percentages? You lose, period.


The GOPe seems to be concerned that by supporting Trump they'll be courting a bloodbath downticket.

I suspect that what they'll find come November is that people who supported Trump before will still vote for Trump at the top of the ticket, but many will leave the downticket blank.

So it will be a bloodbath, but of their own making; i.e., because they *didn't* support Trump, the people's candidate. In soccer, that's an own goal.

If you've been through max trauma its a good idea to forget guns, weapons (although a good one is centennial airweight 357 - you can practice with 38s. The 380s are really the 9mm of the past, but tend to jam - hence revolvers and speedloaders). Its agood idea to get rid of knives at home - youll just cut your fingers. Airline utensils work great. Get some non lethal back up. Security cameras that record to clouds, action cams, monitored security alarms for health safety, personal, wearable high decibel 'screamers,' light body armour like a stab vest,etc. Let machines do the worrying. Need something serious just call the cops. They're trained, armored, etc.

See a psychiatrist to make sure it doesnt involve a physiological issue. Family sometimes is not worth the wear. Walk away, find better support. You'd be surprised where they are - explore. Good luck.

As far as political hell most have known that clinton dems are for destruction of religion. Its at their core. Many clinton genderists too. No work if you go there. Renounce in creative, fun ways. God isnt worried.

PD, IMO the "best candidate" rule needs to apply.

Some of the #ExJOMersDopes believe that their are 3 paths. Vote for Trump, Vote for Hil, or take the moral high ground. The last choice is the same as voting for Hil.

I have been following the LA Times poll and today is the day I was dreading. I knew that the locker room tape was going to knock Trump out - not because I wanted it to happen, but because I work in a world where Title IX and sexual assault are the issues that "trump" all others. The left has run with the issue, and Trump will be the poster boy going forward. The Clinton campaign absolutely understands the climate and the hysteria the tape would cause, and they shrewdly timed the release. Trump has my vote, but I don't believe that he will succeed. I fear for my children and grandchildren. You are all terrific in your optimism and I wish you all well. To me, it's even going to be worse than 2012 - it makes me sick.

All those people who dwell in the world of Title IX were going to vote for Hillary, anyway.

The only question is how many people unswayed by Title IX still exist in this country. That we do not know for sure.

Title IX stuff (using it as a shorthand for it plus sexual harassment, PC language and thinking, etc.) is not high up in priority in coal country, Amish land, the Rust Belt, or the black and Hispanic communities. It's big stuff in library circles, universities, government employees, and liberal think tanks.

So, we just will have to wait and see what happens.

I may have to post this every day until the election, but polls don't measure voter turnout. Had Trump's rally attendance evaporated after the release of the recording, I'd be nervous, but it appears that his crowds have remained strong - perhaps increased. As Porch said: don't worry, be happy! And vote. :)


MM-with respect to the compliant citizenry comment, this is something hill and bill were involved in as one of eight piloting states back when he was governor.

They were working with Lamar Alexander when he was both the governor of TN and the head of the National Governors Association as well as Bill Bennett when he became Reagan's ed sec. John Sununu also involved. It all popped out within the last week as I looked into the backgrounds and previous activities of Trump's ed advisors--Bill Evers and Gerard Robinson as I had heard both speak and also had read troubling papers that did not add up.

As happens, especially when you are largely housebound for a week, one insight led to another. Complaint citizenry though is a good word for it and it really was all hatched initially in the USSR as a means to control "introspective consciousness."
