Another great Trump ad during the Ryder Cup!! Positive message featuring a very diverse set of highly enthusiastic rally attendees. This is the way to efficiently and effectively close out the final ~35 days.

lose 900-ish million and still be a going concern.

I don't know the specifics, but my guess is that he lost his interest in those businesses in bankruptcy, but that did not affect his other businesses. That's the nature of limited liability corporations. If you have ten businesses and some of them go bankrupt, the creditors can't go after your other businesses or you personally.

I hope the taxes are brought up in the debate and will be seriously disappointed if Trump doesn't counter, "Yeah, I took some losses and had to write down my tax liability but I didn't make 90% of my charitable donations to my own family charity."

Buckeye

jimmyk, your LLC point also explains a potential reason why Trump is reluctant to release his tax returns.

It is one thing for the public to see his returns, but to do that Trump may have to disclose his LLC partners.

Really none of the public's bidness.

jimmyk-

I'm not an expert or even have a passing familiarity with the ins-and-outs.

Maybe the Clinton campaign wants to bore everyone to death with discussions of loss carry overs and what can be included and excluded from IRS Form 666. We can all be regaled by Clinton surrogates letting us know that IRS Form 666 from 1995 is really critical while they do that weird fist- thumb point-jab that Bill perfected.

Info only post:

At the Galway Pub just abeam the Seine in Paris. I got sidetracked on my stagger to the Great Canadian Pub by the Galway's big screen TV at street level showing Golf live, but the Ryder's Cup competition tonight is ruling the roost and that is delightful to see. American football is on in many of the Galway screens but nice to see the clientele is so interested in Golf. Usually it'd be audio of the ongoing NFL Games, but tonight the Brit Golf commentary (trust me on this) is coming over the bars loudspeakers, by public acclaim.

It's nice to see when any establishment, like a Bar staff or a Congress, is quick enough to figure out what the people want---wish our government and media could do that 1/100th as well.

Thanks for the link above to the American columnist in the Brit paper who has some nutty idea that it is "quaint" for Americans to think that one should make more money working than sitting on one's arse on the Government dole. The world could use a lot more such "quaint ideas." I did not know it was deplorable to be quaint, but I guess I'm quaint, ergo I'm deplorable.

DrJ

It is one thing for the public to see his returns, but to do that Trump may have to disclose his LLC partners.

I don't understand this concern. The LLC or Corp distributes the appropriate tax form to the individual (earnings or loss) and that goes onto the individual's tax return. There is no information on the partners or what is going on with those entities at all. Certainly there is a list of all of them, with appropriate forms, but that's it.

I'd bet that Trump's personal forms are not that complicated -- nothing like the few-foot stack he displayed earlier. The ones for his various Corps or LLCs are another matter.

-peter

Maybe Trump can wipe his tax returns, like with a cloth.

GUS

Yes Peter, and Rodham could borrow a drone from Iran!!!

Miss Marple the Deplorable

DrJ,

The problem is that with his personal forms they will start in on the "He's not that rich!" line and other such stuff, since most people don't understand that the personal returns don't count the income diverted to other investments, nor the fact that the income tax form doesn't disclose the value of his properties and other assets.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

DrJ,

Silent partners have a reasonable expectation of remaining just that.

I'd love to see Trump do a mock ad saying he is starting a charity called the Trump Foundation, and the big headline being that for ever dollar u contribute to the Trump Foundation a whopping 6 cents will go to Charity, 35 cents of that dollar will go to pay employee expenses, and most of the remaining 50 cents will go for unexplainable extra expenses. The rest to travel expenses, and to Trump family members administering the Trump Fund.

Model it exactly on the Clinton Foundation.

Btw, how much tax did the Clintons pay in taxes in 2000 when they left the White House with the stolen silverware "dead broke?"

maryrose, my take is that it's not forgetting the good the Bush family did, but that they've switched sides and are actively undermining that good by supporting Hillary in this election.

Regardless of how much they might hate Trump, the fact is, Hillary worked to undermine support for the Iraq war, to demonize W, and then as SoS, she had a major role in dismantling all the good that was accomplished there, and severely damaging our national interests. To publicly say they will vote for her after that...I'm not sure how else to describe it but "traitorous."

daddy on iPad

Good to hear, Clarice.

I like the idea of getting publicity focused on the Clinton Foundation by explaining it in understandable terms to the American public and to our dumbass college kids---especially how only 6 cents off every Clinton foundation dollar goes to Charity, the rest going into the pockets of Hillary and her administrators. I can't think of a better way to illustrate Hillary's charitable hypocrisy than by Trump or a surrogate stating in totally unambiguous terms they are now creating a Trump Foundation based exactly on the track record of the Clinton Foundation---"You give us a dollar!" We'll give 6 cents to Charity, 30 cents will go to pay our employees salaries, 50 cents will go to ambiguous unexplained expenses, and whatever remains will go to the equivalent of Chelsea Clinton, the Fund Administrator, since Admonistrator Chelsea, from her 26 million dollar NYCity apartment block told us she had tried hard to care about making money but she couldn't.

It is a simple idea that could be very easily done.to great effect. Put Dennis Miller in charge. Where is Dennis?

The Bush family are not traitors.

I wouldn't say they are traitors, I would simply describe them as ignorant of the importance of the freedoms that the founders strived so mightily to give us in the Declaration and the Constitution. I will not attribute malice to them when I think the easier explanation is a convenient acquiescence to gutlessness and stupidity.

If I may be so bold in my currently inebriated state, there are different opportuntities to show courage and we are aware of them. It is sometimes easier for an American soldier to jump on a hand grenade to save his buddies, than for that same GI to stand up and say he is against such and such a candidate for president or that he hates Colin Kaernich etc.

Such critters like McCain we could write a book upon--"Eff the VC, but gawd forbid I am viewed unfavorably by readers of the WaPo. "

From those who read history one can come to the conclusion that It is easier for some Americans to sacrifice their lives to save their buddies than it is for those same individuals to stand up in the face of Alinsky opprobrium. We are humans, and I definitely won't accuse Alinsky of not knowing human nature since, his purpose was to understand it and take advantage of it.

To state that the election of Alinsky apostle Hilary is more acceptable than the election of Trump is example 1 for the Bush's.

No Founding Father or signer of the Declaration of Independence that I can think of would reappear in 2016 and, having looked at the candidates we have on our plates and their track record, would in honestly be voting for Hillary Clinton.

Your views may vary, but that is the politically correct choice, so that's where we are. Definitely that is the view from The European intelligentsia.

Such are the Bush's. Long ago they figured out that for the Bush's to maintain political legitimacy that it was easier to acquiesce to the Left than to stand up for the Right against the Left. Bush/Mccain, totally interchangeable, whether John or Megan, the Georges, Jeb or Barbara.

Swap one for another.

That's the facts as I see 'em.

Go Trump.

Buckeye

Well said daddy, particularly for "3 sheets".

Miss Marple the Deplorable

I think Bush did a fine job after 9/11. I appreciate the efforts he made in tax cuts and getting rid of many of the Clinton EO's.

I also bought into the Afghanistan invasion and the Iraq War.

However, he should have seen the signs of democrat willingness to destroy the Iraqi victory, and he didn't. I think when Harriet Meiers was forced to withdraw (and there is no doubt she would have been head and shoulders about Sotomayor) I think he just threw in the towel.

What has soured me is that Bush supposedly values loyalty. Well, I donated and worked for his campaign. I stood in the cold at the Statehouse protesting Al Gore and the Florida recount. I defended him through Katrina, through accusations of no weapons of mass destruction, through all of the attacks. In fact, I defended him even after he left office.

The last 8 years people like me, average Republicans, have been painted as racists, as bigots against gays, as religious persecutors of Muslims, as greedy, as ignorant rubes.

Has George Bush ever spoken up for us? Anyone got a link to a speech in which he defends the average American from the slanders of Obama? I sure haven't seen it from him, nor his brother or father.

And then, on top of that, he pals around with Clinton and his father acts like Bill Clinton is some sort of family member.

The duty of a clan member is to give loyalty to the chief. The chief is supposed to defend his people. This is baked in my bones, and I cannot get over that he was faithless to us in our time of need.
