Say What? FBI With New Leads On Hillary's Email?

FBI head James Comey notified Congress that he was pursuing new information in the over-but-never-officially-closed "investigation":

In a letter to congressional leaders, Comey said that the FBI had, in connection with an “unrelated case,” recently “learned of the existence of emails that appear to be pertinent to the Clinton investigation.”

Comey wrote that he had been briefed on the new material Thursday. “I agreed that the FBI should take appropriate investigative steps designed to allow investigators to review these emails to determine whether they contain classified information, as well as to assess their importance to our investigation,” he wrote.

I share Captain Ed's puzzlement - in July Comey had announced that, the statute notwithstanding, he would only consider charges if he could show that, in addition to mishandling classified information (the evidence of which was abundant) Team Hillary had criminal intent or attempted to obstruct the investigation.

So how could investigating whether these newly discovered emails contain classified information upset the July decision to Move On?

For two cents I have a guess! We really don't know where or how the FBI found these emails. But suppose these emails took a different path to deletion from the many other emails that Hillary turned over or which the FBI recovered from her server. And what if the timing or nature of that alternative path reeks of cover-up and obstruction? The deliberate destruction of non-classified emails may be adequately innocent, but the deliberate deletion of classified info after the investigation was underway? Harder to overlook!

I don't know. I also don't know how Comey can keep his job after this spectacularly bad pre-election timing, although I also don't know how President Hillary can fire him. Presumably Obama can dispatch Comey on his own way out.

ARE WE THERE YET? The announcement of an FBI investigation into one of the major candidates less than two weeks before the election makes me hope we are within striking distance of Peak Crazy. But we have eleven days to go!

I don't know, I can't get in to his mind...None of this seems to make a whole lot of sense.

Kalstrom: Yeah, exactly. What is the point of that letter? What is the point of that Letter? I mean if he's talking about Classified Information they've already found bundles and bundles and truckloads of Classified Information. So is this Classified information more important than those 24 Top Secret Documents they've already found? What is the purpose of the Letter other than to put people on notice that they are going to actually do something? I guess we'll find out what that is, and Liz, if I have to guess, I mean I have no knowledge of this I'm simply guessing, I think there is something big coming down the road. I don't know if it's something in WikiLeaks or something but I think there is something else going on. I don't know it is.

Liz: Why do you think that?

Kalstrom: Because it doesn't make a whole lot of sense what is going on right now. Why would he write such a letter? What is the purpose of that Letter? If there is info that needs to be investigated, then investigate it. If it's potentially criminal then get the Justice Department to impanel a Grand Jury which has never happened, so how serious could any investigation be?...Otherwise it makes no sense. I've never written a letter to anybody like that. I don't know of any FBI Director who's ever written a letter to somebody like that, saying we are going to investigate something...
