Miss Marple the Deplorable

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Florence Henderson was a native of Terre Haute, Indiana and for many years appeared at the opening of the Indianapolis 500.

I do remember Sandra Lee (the cooking lady and Cuomo's girlfriend) got her start by inventing a device for using fabric to make window treatments and she actually talked Florence Henderson into making an infomercial for it which made Lee a lot of money. Lee's mother was an alcoholic and Lee had to take care of the younger siblings.

She chose Florence Henderson because she admired her from watching her on TV and thinking that was how a mother should be.

Sort of a poignant story, and Lee was always grateful to Henderson for helping her out.

ManTran, my new toy will be for IDPA games -- a CZ-75B SA 9MM arriving early next week. Old hands want the weight for stability aiming.

Jack,

Potato soup most Googled in Indiana and West Virginia? What is the deal with that?

Maybe using leftover mashed potatoes? That's all I can come up with.

It wouldn't be a Trump sports museum. It would be a Jack sports museum housed in a beautiful venue of the same vintage as the vintage sports gear.

Sandra Lee is Cuomo's girlfriend? That explains it then. I couldn't figure out why she had such a prominent spot on the turkey float in the Macy's parade yesterday.

R.I.P., Mrs. Brady.

One of my favorite and simplest recipes is for potato soup that my mother got from a French Canadian lady who lived next door to her. it is my go-to comfort food.

Chop leeks semi-fine and boil in salted water with peeled potato chunks until the potatoes are tender.

Drain off the liquid and reserve it.

Mash the potatoes and leeks that remain in the pot with butter. Don't overmash, the final texture of the soup shouldn't be too smooth.

Alternately add milk and the liquid that was poured off to the mashed mixture and stir after each addition, until you have the texture of thick soup. Salt to taste.

The simplicity of the written recipe doesn't do the deliciousness of the outcome justice.
