Plus, preview is your best friend, anonomom. Trust me.

Amen, lyle. For newbies like KK, I believe the JOM policy is to leave spelling/grammatical mistakes uncorrected, but correcting factual errors is fine. When I don't preview before posting and my correctable mistakes remain to embarrass and taunt me, beneficial pride-killing commences. Still, it's far better to preview and avoid the experience imo.

common man

Fox Business is reporting its confirmed that Dr. Carson will be the new head of HUD.

lyle

Preach it, DebinNC! 😬

While I love and encourage lurkers and newbies to comment, my gentle advice to KK would be summed as: brevity is the soul of wit. 😎

Elliott has a waiver to correct Latin declensions, but that's included in the Platinum Membership™.

Great news, CM. BEE!!!

DebinNC

Oh, Iggy, how sad for both of you. Praying his current time-out brings some help and hope.

Beasts of England

Carson at HUD would be yuge!! He's a pull yourself up by your bootstraps kinda guy, and will not take kindly to a lot of their relocation shenanigans. Booyah!

lyle

Man, I gotta get me one of them Platinum Memberships™. I suppose there's a waiting list...

Miss Marple the Deplorable

I am waiting to see how the hand-wringers go after the Dr. Carson appointment.

Honestly, I am worn out with these people.

Trump could be forgiven if he got on Twitter and told everyone to STFU. I almost to that point.

It's like people were willing to vote for him but they didn't LISTEN to what he said, nor are they listening now. Why they believe the New York Times is a mystery to me. All you have to do is look at what they printed about what he said on climate change vs. the transcript of the interview, which the Daily Caller printed in the article I posted a link to earlier today.

I am in a grumbly mood.

common man

The Federal government should not be in ownership of housing, period. Almost everywhere it is put in, it becomes almost instant slums. If Dr. Carson gets the USA out of that, it would be a very very good thing.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

common mamn,

One of my sisters worked for an apartment management company for a while. Most of the complexes were normal apartments, but they owned one Section 8 complex.

What my sister discovered was that the HUD inspector would show up and DEMAND to have her open apartments for him to inspect without notice to the tenants, and ony a quick knock before she was to unlock it! He was also very rude to the residents, some of whom were just poor older folks.

It got so awful that she quit and went back to working on her feet in retail; she even took a pay cut.

I think getting the government out of housing would also be good for the tenants. I certainly would resent someone treating me like that.

Tonto

MaryD -- My husband had open heart surgery on the 11th, and is now walking four city blocks five times a day. Recovery comes quickly! You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Great news about hubby, Tonto!

See you in a couple hours, Tonto.

KK

Read the New York Times article again and tell me if you think that is real journalism or that they are following marching orders

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

I'll never forget the old Redd Foxx commercial for something or other, Colt 45 IIRC.
As he stands there a whole dilapidated building falls down to which he gravels:
"Well, that's urban renewal for ya."

anonamom; formerly adorable, now deplorable.

Thanks Ig.

I tried two! MORE is better.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

My daughter is his half sister and he has an aunt. They would make sure he's got a place.
I presume his mom's mom who is still kicking at 87 will provide for him too.
I'm hoping she goes before me anyway. :)

Porchlight

Horse With No Name was always a blatant Young ripoff.

"KK

Read the New York Times article again and tell me if you think that is real journalism or that they are following marching orders"

But Pinche Solzberger said they were going to be honest.

Also, when was the last time anybody accused the NYT of "real journalism."

Are you calling out people for defending the NYT? For their refusal to call out the NYT?

Wha?

jimmyk

Hmm, I'm no expert, but to me Horse With No Name sounds more like the old CSN without the Y than Neil Young.

Account Deleted

"For newbies like KK, I believe the JOM policy is to leave spelling/grammatical mistakes uncorrected, but correcting factual errors is fine."

Thank-you for clarifying "policy" but I've yet to go back and post a one-word mispelling. Grammar is a mystery to me so if my buns are flappin' in the breeze over that I wouldn't know it. No worries.

"While I love and encourage lurkers and newbies to comment, my gentle advice to KK would be summed as: brevity is the soul of wit. 😎 "

Or evidence of a really good cork.

Porchlight

I think more CSNY, jimmyk. The two-note "melody" of the verses is the Young part. :)

lyle

Not me, jimmyk. Considering the very--very--narrow range of the vocals, it sounds almost exactly like Young whose vocal range couldn't be greater than maybe less than an octave.

lyle

Touché, KK!👊

jimmyk

it sounds almost exactly like Young whose vocal range couldn't be greater than maybe less than an octave.

Fair enough, lyle, it's just that Young's stuff tended to sound a bit less polished (partly because of his crappy singing voice), whereas CSN had that slick studio airbrushed quality in common with "Horse."

common man

Have you seen the WSJ commercial claiming through reader testimonies that they were not blindsided by the Trump win and were prepared for anything.

Brazen as hell, and if someone can show me its accurate I guess I would have to retract but otherwise, lying like a book on a counter from my recollection.

jimmyk

Never mind, I just listened to "Horse," I guess I'd forgotten the verses because the music is so, well, forgettable, and just remembered the more CSN(Y)-like chorus. The verses are indeed total Neil Young ripoff.

Truthbetold5

KK

For the most part, I am calling out people for pretending as though there is nothing to investigate and hiding behind what they think is legit legal cover.

So that they can turn a blind eye!

And for some there may be other factors involved?

Account Deleted

"Hmm, I'm no expert, but to me Horse With No Name sounds more like the old CSN without the Y than Neil Young."

Funny cuz when "Horse" first came over the airwaves the vocalist was going for some kind of Neil-like style. So close to this untrained ear that I thought it was Neil.

He'd just gone out on his own, sick and tired of trying to play with three dysfunctional heroin addicts. Easy mistake to make given how popular he was out here with BuffSpring before CSNY.

=========
Separate note re Neil Young. He lives out here in Califas and runs a school charity concert each year for The Bridge School. Special needs kids benefit. He has a son that he cares for in that way.

Having been up close to him on more than one occasion I'll say this, he is as moody as any artist I've ever known.

But conceit isn't one of his flaws.

He's made a major commitment to correcting a behavior that certainly magnifies personal flaws.

It's been some years now since Neil made his pledge to one of his kids that he'd stop smokin the cheeba.

His personality is changing as a result. He's on the verge of dufferhood, but I am of the opinion that he'll enjoy making some quality music til he can't hold a geetar.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

I should have remembered that it was America instead of neil Young, but they were putting out songs at the same time and that song muct have played every hour on my car radio (came out when I was commuting tyo college).

Honestly, that monotone droning with that high pitched chorus was just terrible. Plus rambling and pointless lyrics wheich were also depressing.

Only thing that inspires such revulsion in me is "Muskrat Love" by Captain and Tennile. YIKES!

Miss Marple the Deplorable

I will now take the admonition to hit preview to heart. LOL!

Truthbetold5

Happy to hear that Iggy.

You do not want him to land in the care of the government.

lyle

Sister Golden Hair was a much better song, anyway. No one mistook that for the druggy Cannuck. 😬

common man

Only thing that inspires such revulsion in me

How about anything by Neil Sedaka?

lyle

Has Young washed his hair yet, KK?

jimmy-virtually every name well known at a national level is pushing a vision that works in a way vastly different from the rhetoric around it. Some pushers know that and others do not. Given the bile veterans have for devos, I would guess that when it was explained to her that whatever she was pushing did not work the way she was leading people to believe she did not care.

It is jeb's ed policy we will be getting without much difference from what obama pushed except in nomenclature. The local news just said she was a kasich delegate at the convention and the same Buckley dinner out in SF that gave an award to George Schulz as well as the long-time head of the Bradley Foundation who retired about a year ago has recognized the DeVos Family in the past.

School Choice and charters are both legal entities and instruments that were created by the Left to lock in a particular vision that has little to do with academics. It's been the same vision under a variety of names since Bill Bennett was Ed Sec under Reagan as my latest post laid out. No one is forthcoming unless you can find the books and papers before something became controversial. Bennett is currently cashing in as a senior advisor on Project Lead the Way. He is scheduled to be one of the speakers on a panel at jeb's annual confab in december. Rod Paige and Arne Duncan are also speaking with Condi Rice, who is also on the Board with DeVos and who chaired the Board while Jeb ran for Pres, is asking the questions of the three former Ed Sec's discussing ESSA, the new federal ed law.

As I have said I am glad Trump is the P-E and not Jeb, but we will be getting Jeb's desired ed policies. I knew that whoever the next Pres was the ed policies pursued would effectively be the same. It's just that Hillary would knowingly be on board with agenda as Arkansas was an early and knowing implementer. "High quality learning assessments" have a behavioral science function that is well-known to insiders that comes with the mandate when it is put into a charter or federal or state legislation or regulation.

If you haven't spent any time recently re-watching election night sadz, here's a treat: The Young Turks.

26 minutes long, but well-edited and worth it (watch while you're doing something else). They are actually pretty entertaining in their disappointment, I'll say that for them.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yO4xfj0ISoY

I forgot Mankowicz was on there. I hate his politics but I do like his hosting on TCM.

Porchlight

Some f-bombs in that Young Turks video, btw. No surprise. :)

TBT--- Thanks for clarifying.

I've learned everything I know about prosecution and defense standards from Law and Order reruns.

Refraining from offering my legalese opinions about what may or may not be so according to American jurisprudence is a conscious practice.

I learned from years of online arrows through the eyehole earned by arguing with real attorneys.

That restraint however doesn't preclude me from donning my waders and venturing into the swamps of Emo-crat immorality where I *question* why pederasty, human slavery, sex trafficking, and child rape appear to be on the increase with all of this infernal misdirection going on over "immigration."

Academic institutions are sponsoring "research" by "scholars" who provide the convolutions for making child rape natural.

I always preview. (I don't always see what I misspell or my grammatical errors though.)

I saw that the italizing command was "broken," but decided to post anyway and learn how to fix it.

And now I do.

So there.

I share your take on the ED sitch.

Problems in government schools, and in private schools too, are hiding in plain sight.

Rod Paige's claim that the "achievement gap" is the greatest civil rights issue of our time embodies the simplistic battle cry over "failing schools."

Here in Berkeley CA the revered "small schools" of Berkeley High consistently get rave reviews by "educators" (whatever those are) as being "a model we can all get behind."

They don't work because the teachers don't work. The teachers have a 50% teaching role and a 50% head-case management role.

Black kids and kids who don't look like the kids in the cast of the original movie version of "Sound of Music" are failing, leaving unprepared academically for college, and believing--like their racial counterparts do too, that studying science means studying Agenda 21/UN climate change propaganda. And, that they are all going to die just like the polar bears. Lock step automatons.

I know. My son just graduated from there and is being broken in the hard way at Macalester College in St. Paul MN.

Arne Duncan, well, he was the CEO of Chicago Public Schools.

Perhaps PEOTUS has an interest in looking at expanding occupational and technical education programs in local school districts.

Of course, that would assume we could stuff a sock in all of Robert "Lil Bobby" Reich's disciples who don't believe in manpower policies or devising training and education programs to meet the needs of a rapidly morphing economy.

My two devalued pesos worth of thought. I was a highly degreed Educational buffalo at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and the University of Vermont in my pre-unbridled capitalist phase of today.

Happy Thanksgiving!

It’s not a coinkydink. The American Left, aided by the government media complex, is doing it’s level best to eradicate the traditional family and criminalize any of us who are proponents in favor of legal relief to protect it.

Yep, and they have advanced the ball further than people yet realize.

Yes, we acknowledge the boys from Jacksonville are not our own, RattlerGator! They did love Muscle Shoals, though. :)

And, luckily, they were far from alone in that affection. This was a great, great read from 2 and a half years ago:
