Good Morning! Just woke up and spent the last 45 minutes watching the exceptional video of Victor Davis Hanson that Jim linked 2 days back:

Here it is again for those who have not seen it, with a Joe Bob Briggsian 5 Star recommendation to "Check It Out! Victor Davis Hanson - The Mythologies of the 2016 Election

Immediately upon finishing watching it I posted this to a friend:

VDH is brilliant in almost every utterance. He puts it all together so beautifully and has so much brilliant history at his fingertips to illuminate properly what he is explaining. It is so evident how he and Dennis Prager are such mental and moral companions. Of all those National Review writers and of Bill Kristol and the rest, the word that never jumps out at me in describing them is “Moral”. In VDH and Prager “Moral” and “Ethical” and “Wise” jump out of the dictionary and surround those 2 like halos.

I stand by that description:)

Beasts of England

BOzo is doing everything he can to undermine Trump's legitimate election. He's too stoopid to understand that he's only further sinking the Dems chances for relevancy in the next decade. Enjoy the wilderness, fellers...

Beasts of England

@Cecil Turner - Wild Bill Kristol tried to recruit French to be a third party candidate this election.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

I don't think I would call it "sucking up" as much as "schmoozing", which is a talent Trump has due to years of operating in New York.

Other than that, I think JM Hanes is exactly right. Trump apparently is talking with Obama daily, which is fine. I imagine he listens to what is said, takes notes, and then crosses policies and personnel off lists based on doing the OPPOSITE of what Obama recommends.

Obama doesn't know that, of course. Meanwhile, it feeds Obama's ego, which, as we all know, is the most important driver of anything Obama does or says.

JM Hanes

TK:

Remember Obama's remarks after his meeting with Trump about spending more time giving the pres-elect guidance than most former presidents have done? One of my favs was the scuttlebutt about Trump supposedly not realizing how many people he was going to have to hire -- which I figured was probably extrapolated from some politely anodyne remark like, "Really, that many?" or "I'm impressed by how much you handle here." Or perhaps he was just amazed by how many sycophants it took to keep Obama's ego afloat.

JM Hanes

Miss Marple:

You're right, "schmoozing" is a much better word for it.

boatbuilder

The one reason I am not at 100% on the golf thing is that Trump is a pretty good golfer. Obama would be getting a stroke per hole--I'm not sure his ego could stand that.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

The landing team has arrived at the Department of Energy. Swamp-draining has begun. In this article are the preliminary questions the transition team has sent to DOE, and this should please all of you who were a little dubious about Trump cutting spending.

BTW, In the VDH video I linked above he explains "Carpe Diem" which comes from Horace and then he explains the next line after, and VDH describes Trump's quality's as "animal cunning," and he says that in a good way.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

I REALLY want to get you guys to read those questions they are asking the DOE in the link I provided at 12:45.

Stephanie despicable me

A stroke per hole? You didn't include foot nudges and whiffs...

I'd put my daughter up against Obama any day and she hasn't played a round in almost 3 years. She can break 90 playing video games between holes with zero warm up.

Besides having Asperger's, she'd have him crying like the pansy as pajama boy that he is after his forth or fifth call out for a rules violation. Stickler that she is (she called out the ladies club champion in a championship tourney that that witch still bitches about - it was glorious).

Anyone got any ins with the WaPo?

Whomever the WaPo hires is going to need a bigger boat.

That's because you're an idiot.

Witch hunts are inherently un-American and anyone who subscribes to these gestapo techniques reveals a little something about their character.

And anyway, who the fuck gets excited about hurting the environment? What kind of a person has the cockles of her heart warmed by the lack of clean water and clean fucking air? I'm sorry...it's almost like a parody of a parody.

"Drainine the swamp' is a subjective term. Earlier this year we thought he meant all the invertebrates but K St lobbyists are thriving.

JM Hanes

I love the whole landing team concept, and the list of questions for the DOE is incredibly encouraging.

PD

Witch hunts are inherently un-American and anyone who subscribes to these gestapo techniques reveals a little something about their character.

Which shows that you didn't read the article, as it points out the witch hunting that the left has already been engaged in.

And anyway, who the fuck gets excited about hurting the environment?

Which, again, shows that you didn't read the article, which points out where DOE activities compare unfavorably with, say, providing clean water to villages that have little.

And why did you post such comments?

That's because you're an idiot.

daddy

The WaPo could start with VDH or Prager but they're not brave enough to do that. BTW, here's VDH from the video on Comey:

VDH: “James Comey, he’s a tragic figure. He kept trying to square the circle that he had been appointed to do by this team. Comey wanted to be part of this Team and he wanted to be independent, and he wound up being nothing. I mean he entered that Hamlet situation, he ended up not pleasing his Masters and then showing no integrity as he flipped, then flopped, then flipped. And remember, this was not necessarily a nice guy because he was the one who appointed Patrick Fitzgerald who just demonized Scooter Libby and went after Conrad Black. I mean there is such a thing as hubris and nemesis, and he got what he deserved, and he is a disgrace now.”

Mass applause from the audience.

On a different topic, who in the Obama Admin can we look at and say, that guy there was a guy with integrity? Is there anyone? While the MSM goes nitpicking over Trump's choices it's worth recalling that Obama had the hutzpah to appoint ex-Con and avowed Communist Van Jones to the position of "Green Czar", whatever the hell that is. Worth keeping that pick in mind as the incoming criticism against Trump's picks escalates.

Besides...you can just listen to the first 3 or 4 minutes, then decide whether to continue (laughs maniacally).

While Obama's doing that investigation on the Russians trying to throw the Election to Trump, I hope he has a side investigation on how Obama tried to throw the Israeli Election against Netanyahu:

Obama admin. sent taxpayer money to campaign to oust Netanyahu

The State Department paid hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxpayers grants to an Israeli group that used the money to build a campaign to oust Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in last year’s Israeli parliamentary elections, a congressional investigation concluded Tuesday.

Didn't know that, JMH. Fascinating! VDH ain't a Comey fan and I love his description of the guy. It really is marvelous VDH's quick evaluations of people (Obama, Hillary, Bill Clinton) which he mentions in the question and answer period of the linked video, which starts at about 26 minutes in.

lyle

That VDH vid is awesome. I must say, I'm beaming with pride: for months I've been saying to people discussing the election that Trump "has made all the right enemies." Glad to know a brilliant man like VDH says precisely the same thing.

Notice also that the esteemed prof spoke extemporaneously. Yet still ANOTHER contrast between a true intellectual and a fraud like Zippy.

Beasts of England

Miss Marple the Deplorable

I don't know about Tillersman, but I am still glad to see that Trump gives zero f's about what the left thinks.

Do we have an official Tillerson announcement from Team Trump, yet? I'm still hoping not.

Thanks for the recount updates, henry.

I love the WattsUp article--shows you what a professional transition team this is. After decades of utter incompetence, it warms the cockles of my heart.

It seems rice and gates were the sources, that trandrea relied upon.

I will wait and see the official announcement.

At any rate, I am off to move some stuff out of the old house and then to dinner at a sister's.

Mrs. Clinton destroyed/omitted to turn over tens of thousands of subpoenaed documents, many of which she had produced on an illegal server. Some of them were parts of exchanges with President Obama, who thus knew she was using an illegal server. He is thus implicated in her criminal conspiracy to commit and cover up this behavior. Come now the US Government, the Democratic Party, and the Mainstream Media (I repeat myself) to say that the scandal is that Wikileaks, aided by the Russians, helped expose these criminal acts to the American public before the elections.

We don't know that the Russians were involved. We do know that Clinton and Obama committed criminal acts. Keep your eye on the ball.

The one reason I am not at 100% on the golf thing is that Trump is a pretty good golfer. Obama would be getting a stroke per hole--I'm not sure his ego could stand that.

This exchange was memorable, from when Trump visited Louisiana after the flooding:

The candidates later visited Greenwell Springs Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, where volunteers were preparing meals for the needy.

“The president says he doesn’t want to come, he is trying to get out of a golf game,” said Trump.

“I heard he wants to stay under par while we are under water,” said Tony Perkins, the president of the Family Research Council and Trump supporter, who was in attendance.

“He will never be under par.” quipped Trump.

I'm as sick of the whole war on women, glass ceiling, sisterhood narrative as anyone, but I thought the answer to this question was actually pretty surprising, Which 2016 Films Pass (or Flunk) the Sexism Test?

THR recently gave the 25 top-grossing films of 2016 the Bechdel-Wallace Test. What's that? It's a quiz developed in 1985 by graphic novelist Alison Bechdel and her friend Liz Wallace that reveals just how sexist (or not) any given work of fiction might be. To pass, the work simply has to affirmatively answer three questions: 1. Does it have more than two female characters (with names) in it? 2. Do those characters engage in a conversation with each other? 3. And is that conversation about anything other than a man?
You can see the list at the link, but only 13 of the 25 passed that pretty minimal threshold. Two movies, The Magnificent Seven, and The Legend of Tarzan managed to fail on all three counts which seems like something it would almost take work to achieve, NTTAWWT. And no, I'm not waiting with bated breath to find out How Trump's Presidency May Affect Hollywood's EEOC Gender Probe (the jokes write themselves, so you don't have to), but I can't help highlighting this bit of fantasy upside:
But the real wild card is Trump's need to appear critical of the industry: Given how much Hollywood met his candidacy with disdain, The Apprentice's former star might save face by siccing the feds on studios and networks.
Such a persistent, emblematic, lefty thought pattern: even if folks on the other side of the philosophical aisle occasionally do the putative right thing, you can always impugn their motives - based on any unadulterated, untethered, pop-psyche pretext you can conjure up! I think the casual, blindingly biased, assumptions underlying such a remark may actually annoy me more than the outright falsifications.

henry - drunk on prog tears

James D, I would be very surprised if there wasn't an equally qualified an aggressive team for all cabinet agencies and especially for the beyond cabinet ones like CFPB.
