Lots of Californians moving here to Texas. I wouldn't mind moving to South Dakota.

Any update on your search for a new guitar, KevlarKid?

Re: Trump Tweets and Russkies

And to think the Bathouse Nobel Prize winner did nothing but drop bombs and import jihadis into the USA.

Trump knows low-hanging fruit when he sees it.

The jihad is a great threat to Putin as it is to the US and Europe.

Time to get clear about how to destroy this hydra which appears to be cresting toward some kind of high water mark--- that will unfortunately be reached with another mass kill here in the US...that would make 9-11 look like a church picnic.

Sorry. It's coming. 17 intelligence agencies have buried it for 8 years. The impact will be deep and massive.

One man's opinion.

Carhartt hoodies, lots to choose from:

Rats. I bet I won't be able to find anything like it, either.

They still make and sell them, MM; for instance at Dick Sporting Goods. Be careful ordering from them though. I ordered a pair of pink cleats for our granddaughter, and was only sent one shoe. When I explained the problem on the phone, Dick's customer service agent warned me to wait for the replacement before wearing.???? I laughed and assured her the child wouldn't be hobbling around on one cleat in the meantime.

When I was in South Dakota 2 years ago with my grandkids, things were booming due to the oil fields up in the Bakken. Rapid City was having a mini-housing boom because a lot of workers were choosing to live there and then commute up to the fields by air. (That's how much money they were making.)

When we left South Dakota we drove up through Bismark, North Dakota (mainly so the kids could add that to the states they had been through) and it was really something. Billboards with ads for jobs, ads for jobs on the radio.. Restaurants were full of guys in work clothes stopping for lunch or dinner. Trucks everywhere.

I told the kids that they were seeing something not seen in the US in a long time, a true boom town.

MM,if I was home in Maine,I'd send Carhatt stuff to your heart's content. There is huge Carhartt store near Bangor. It is the only clothing store where hubby will try on clothes. Ha.
Do you have a Tractor Supply? I believe they sell Carhartt.

Beastiest One:

As a matter of fact...over vaykay I was outbid at an estate auction: Martin Road Series DRS1. Never pay retail right? $750 retail. The bidding started at $400. I bailed at $550.

What surprised me was there were eight pickers there at that auction. Who da fuq you guys ennawayz? Nice joes. The guy who won out made that mama sing. The lesson was worth the bother.

I don't care how bad Calif gets. Texass stinks.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Marlene, yes we do have a Tractor Supply here, but it's down south of my old house. I may try to go down there next week and see if I can find anything on clearance.

I don't care about color much, just want something WARM.

Re Carhart duds---

1978 to 1991, my southern Illinois farmin' days. Carhart year round...the best pieces for me were the insulated coveralls for repairing/overhauling equipment on dead winter nights in dairy barns; and the regular work pants.

Indestructible and ideal working around stuff that can shred conventional woven fabrics like levis and other wannabe brands.

This is not a paid promotional announcement for Carhart. ;)

They may have been bidding with an eye on the international market.

When I was running my eBay bisiness (which I will start in the spring with a smaller operation) I used to sell collector's items all the time to people in foreign countries.

My most lucrative sales were to Australia and Russia.

It was very interesting what those people bought. With Australians, it was mostly barware, signs, and steins. The women bought Englishy ceramics and Hummels.

The Russians were a very good market for 18th and 19th century ceramic figurines, as well as glass animals.

Never had a problem shipping to either country.

For that eBay biz you ran, how long did it take you to get good at it?

Like I trust the Washington Post reporting on “internal Trump team conflicts”.

MM, ebay options

Beasts of England

I'm often surprised at the quantity of pickers out in the general population, KevlarKid. That's a nice guitar - I like the mahogany top - and it was well-bought at $550.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

I am hesitant to believe any of the stuff the WaPo puts out on Trump and his team, since their thing is to sow dissension and cast doubt on Trump's management skills.

That being said, since most of the NeverTrump people are more inclined to Bush's war efforts, I think Trump wants to go in a new direction, so some of those people wouldn't probably be a good idea.

However, I don''t believe it anyway.

I'm not sure if anyone beside JIB and myself caught the "14!" dustup between Ann Coulter and some lib pussy.

She has moved on to "13!"

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Thanks, Deb!

I should look there first, since I am not looking for anything brand-new.

I need to go to the Goodwill outlet, too. Sometimes you can find real treasures there, and they sell it by the POUND!

Re California relokes:

One of the dirty little secrets among former Californians is purchasing Mexican real estate at bargain prices.

The last I checked there were some 40,000 former Californians who'd migrated permanently there. It's tempting. But at the beginning of the trend in the late 90s and into the OhOhs the cartels werent as dominant. One friend of mine who moved to Guanajato is selling their property to another American in order to move back to a rural California town near the Sequoia National Forest in the Sierra foothills.

Mennonites farm huge tracts of land just outside the Copper Canyon region. That movement was spurred by Califas relokes looking for sane water policies (which are about to return now that Boxer's farm-belt for smelt water diversion law was sacked late last year).

I'm a disaster investor. California is near-bottom now. And we have a businessman running the country. There are market opportunities emerging here that many cannot see given the insanity of the Mexican and Moslem invasions.

Stayin' put. There's gold out here and it isn't as far below the surface as it might appear to the fair weathery types. Grew up here. Left for 25 years to experience the rest of the Nation. Been back for 18 years. Time to rack up some scores before hangin' up my trunks.

We are still a 50 state republic and there is no MAGA if we give up on any one of those.

The rats will start swimmin' soon enough.

Well they don't cite any named sources nor particular reasons, why one would not prefer one candidate, so its tmz level gossip.

Ya, I hear that sbw.

Source of this story makes me wonder if General Mattis' staff are engaging in text exchanges with inner circle Trumpers.

How good is the General's counter-surveillance security game, I wunda.

I cannot imagine a NeverTrumper trying to run some booshitake on General Mattis.

"Come in, Son, and sit down."

The WAPO correspondents are shaking down Pajama Boy ProgEmoCrat congressional pages for hissy rumor and innuendo.

The notion that a Bezos-paid shill can get within whiffing distance of General Mattis' operation is a joke.

Scott Adams Dilbert cartoon on Trump, circa 1990. Probably posted along the way ... but new to me.

All right then. That's it for me for awhile. Chores to get done before the Raiders take on the Texans.

Our all-pro tackle Donald Penn is out. That should set up our rookie stand-in QB for the slaughterhouse courtesy of Jadaveon Clowney and Friends. Gonna be a long afternoon.

12-4 never felt so sad.

We are going to be good for a long time though.

Cadillac problems indeed.

Barack Obama has only four years to save the world. That is the stark assessment of Nasa scientist and leading climate expert Jim Hansen who last week warned only urgent action by the new president could halt the devastating climate change that now threatens Earth. Crucially, that action will have to be taken within Obama's first administration, he added. -- "President 'has four years to save Earth'," the London Guardian, January 17, 2009.

So, the science is "settled." We are all GONNA DIE.

So, this is what we do when we are hopelessly doomed.

Ah, the sound of Prog tears as their cushy jobs disappear!

Russia, and Russian bad behavior is being actively discussed. But looking at things longer term .... Are these statements correct, or is there stuff missing?

Islam is a threat to Russia even tho they have allies in the MidEast.

China is a threat to Russia. Russia has thinly populated land. China wants land. China is adjacent to Russia.

The US is not a threat to Russia. We just have stupid leaders. We don't want to take their stuff.

Long term Russia and the US are not forced to be antagonists. Russia is dangerous but has a declining population etc. And we are not a threat to them, thus over time they'll need to spend time on more direct threats. And they'll be more appreciative of non-threats.

The Dilbert cartoon has Russians in it too. How cool is that?

A federal judge is allowing key parts of a lawsuit against Baltimore State's Attorney Marilyn J. Mosby, brought by five of the six police officers charged in the death of Freddie Gray, to move forward.

U.S. District Judge Marvin J. Garbis ruled that claims including malicious prosecution, defamation, and invasion of privacy can move forward against Mosby and Assistant Sheriff Samuel Cogen, who wrote the statement of probable cause.

Mosby's attorneys had said she has absolute prosecutorial immunity from actions taken as a state's attorney. But Garbis noted that her office has said it conducted an independent investigation.

"Plaintiffs' malicious prosecution claims relate to her actions when functioning as an investigator and not as a prosecutor," Garbis wrote.

Miss Marple, I tried to post the 02:22 message with a different link and it didn't work, but to my way of thinking it sounds perfect for you if it works like they say it does.

Wretchard knocks in out of the park in his latest, IMO. Perhaps that's too effusive but never in my long-time admiration of his writing did I ever think he would refer to "giving someone a reach-around." I'm not making this up.

"Once alerted about this incident on April 13, investigators from my police integrity unit were deployed to investigate the circumstances surrounding Mr. Gray’s apprehension. Over the course of our independent investigation, in the untimely death of Mr. Gray, my team worked around the clock; 12 and 14 hour days to canvas and interview dozens of witnesses; view numerous hours of video footage; repeatedly reviewed and listened to hours of police video tape statements; surveyed the route, reviewed voluminous medical records; and we leveraged [???] the information made available by the police department, the community and family of Mr. Gray. The findings of our comprehensive, thorough and independent investigation, coupled with the medical examiner’s determination that Mr. Gray’s death was a homicide that we received today, has led us to believe that we have probable cause to file criminal charges."

Certainly sounds like a boat load of investigating by Marilyn Mosby and her "team".

Get thee over to PJM and behold.

lyle's précis of Wretchard's column: if there are no countries, no borders, or no sovereignty, there's no such thing as treason. How convenient, yes?

Is it Snakes and Ladders, lyle?

Yes, Deb. Thanks.

Going back to Jeh Johnson's declaration of elections as security-related, this could be turned back on the left:

The 1978 law that allows unionization of federal employees gives POTUS the power to exempt any dept important to national security.

This gives Trump a quick path to de-unionization in a bunch of areas, if there's any obstacle to just doing so by EO.

Mosby will get the NiFong treatment and rightfully so.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Here's the link. It's quite good.

Also goes right to the heart of why the left hates us, and Trump. We are holding them back from their desired ascent up the ladder to an elite group they wish to join.

On the DHS control of elections... consider the idea of Trump securing the Chicago voting list and precincts... (I'm certain Odumbo didn't think of this).

pagar, a bacon, ham and sausage supporter

" exempt any dept important to national security."

Why would we have a dept that was not important to national security?

Captain Hate

More importantly, IMO, and related to Biden's plea to keep things hush-hush, where was the outrage when the VP outed SEAL team 6?

I was ready to toss the imbecile, his fake doctor wife and drug addict kids in a wood chipper after that. Is that enough outrage?

Miss Marple the Deplorable

There ya go. ALL are important! After all, if our schools are ineffective, the Chinese might beat us. DE-UNIONIZE DEPT OF EDUCATION!

Same thing for EPA, since we have already been told global warming is the #1 threat!

How about HHS? Well, they are vital because of possible biological warfare and epidemics. Don't forget the Ebola scare a few years ago. DE-UNIONIZE!

Typhuspad didn't let me post the link, but it seems Esteban has another identity.

See if it allows this:

Captain Hate

In case you missed this scathing rebuke of the upcoming "Women's March on Washington" during the Inauguration, I highly recommend it.

She leaves out the point Tammy Bruce wants the gynecological nightmares to address: under eight years of King Zippy more women attained a poverty status than during any other President.

wow jimmy, I didn't know myspace was still a thing.

From the Snakes and Ladders link:

Maybe the first political task after the realization of foreign subversion is to rediscover loyalty, what it means, who it is owed to.

Foreign subversion after the bastardization of the definition of "Natural Born Citizen" (by pretending it had zero to do with loyalty)?

The deuce you say...

re: de-unionization. It becomes immediately and obviously apparent that few/no normal citizens would fund the Dem Party's policies. Instead there is a network of cronies expecting payback. And a cloud of schemes to obtain taxpayer funding through indirect and illicit means. Such as donations from gov't unions.

Drain. The. Swamp.

Old Lurker

Kev...re those public school teacher stats you posted above.

Bad as they are, you need to see the private school version.

I threw a temper tantrum at a board meeting of a private school when the Head argued that unless we gave a big raise to our teachers, we would lose them to the public schools in the DC area (whose numbers are like those you posted). I pointed out several facts of note:

1. They could provide no list of any of our teachers EVER leaving to work in a public school.

2. While the public schools (whose contracts are available online) did indeed provide the "days at work" calendar you posted, and on those days teachers were expected to be at their desks from X am to Y pm with breaks as scheduled per the contracts...our teachers worked even fewer days because our vacations were much longer than public schools...and our teachers taught an average of only four classes per day vs the 7-8 at the public schools.

3. We bragged that our class sizes were tiny (8) vs the huge classes at public schools (30)...such that our teachers were writing fewer than 50 report cards per semester vs more than 200 at the public school.

4. While the public schools demanded the teachers be on site all day, our teachers were allowed to come and go like college professors such that their days had a lot of personal time in them.

5. Boiling it all down, I said that our $75,000 teachers were making the equivalent of $265,000 in the real world of 9-5 jobs with two weeks off for vacation.

Yes...they loved me.

Well played, TK. Hope you're feeling better, BTW.

henry, re myspace, that was about ten years ago. (According to the story, Esteban signed up as "Aashiq Hammad," which of course has nothing to do with Islam.

Does this strike you as something precious and Californiated? Or would you expect your local guys would also write this?

This is an interestingi thread on The_Donald. (The Reddit site.)

You might not understadn some of the conversation, but what they are saying is that the Guccifer 2.0 thing was a DNC plant in order to discredit Assange because they had found out that he had information from the Clinton Campaign.

It's quite an interesting theory. Also goes over some of the CrowdStrike stuff.

Thanks, lyle. I am feeling better, but the issue that sent me to the ER is completely unsolved.

Doctor prescribed "take 'it' easy."

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Old Lurker,

I found the group picture of my 3rd grade class a couple of days ago.

Good old Miss Clutton, one of those old-style teachers like in "A Christmas Story." She used to show us slides of her summer travels, including (NO JOKE) Tibet!!

And that class had 49 kids in it. I counted.

Gotta be frustrating, TK. Hang in there.

Is K street part of the 'swamp' yet to be drained?

I'm tryin' to help you Gringoes...really.

Not at all, lyle. I'm sure it's beautiful up there, but anything below fifty degrees is tough on my mojo.

It sounds like Pleurisy to me.
"Posters who have wandered away.. "
Will not comment per New Years resolution

WaEx: "In addition to the 5,000 National Guard troops being deployed in the city [DC], 3,000 security officers from multiple jurisdiction will also be on the ground, according to security officials."

Seems like a sure way to dissuade average Americans from attending the inaugural.

Thanks, maryrose. Docs gave me steroids to treat what they consider the catchall of pleurisy.

The timing of the 'roids vs time itself rendered my slight improvement as "inconclusive" at best.

As far as my wandered away comment, can we agree that this was about as tame as I have ever been on the subject? ;-)

The same people who turned DC into a garbage dump eight years ago are still acting like irresponsible brats.
