I love this Birher!

PD

Autocorrect FAIL, TK? :-)

Thomas Collins

I'll be more impressed, TM, if you put up a thread starter about how neither Kraft nor Blank has invited you to a luxury box at the Houston Lady Gaga event, and both of them start begging you to join them.

Robin, Ithaca is Gorges....and crazy

I really need to work, but this showed up on my FB feed and has local progressives wailing in despair:

http://www.ithaca.com/news/ithaca/a-progressive-talk-station-goes-off-air-no-it-s/article_edf3db36-d846-11e6-8305-5796b8655f3f.html

Money quote from the interview with the station manager:

Can’t the station just get other shows?

I wish it was that easy. The shows are simply either not available for local radio or do not fit a daily programming schedule. The station cannot simply rebroadcast content if we are not licensed to do so. In its final state, WNYY was already rebroadcasting Thom Hartmann, Colmes, and Stephanie Miller shows daily and on weekends. There comes a point where simply are not putting a valued product out there.

Why do shows like Rush Limbaugh still exist then?

Rush has a very long heritage and history on radio. His syndicators – the people who find radio stations (affiliates) are also responsible for generating the advertising revenue in his show. Strong number of stations and show longevity makes for a healthy product. We are not a market that subscribes to “ratings”- suffice to say both nationally- and even locally, Rush has a very large following. But let me be clear, neither ratings nor advertiser support was our issue.

Cecil: Not exactly nepotism, but does this bother anyone but me?

No, but it bothers Kevin Bacon.

Headline: Dow Jones industrial average reaches new high, tops 20,000 level for first time

Story para 1: The closely watched Dow Jones industrial average reached historic levels Friday, breaching 20,000 points for the first time in a week when President Trump began to put his agenda in place.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/business/wp/2017/01/25/dow-jones-industrial-average-reaches-new-high-tops-20000-level-for-first-time-2

The Daily Screech fact checks its own headline.

Stephanie despicable me

Big news? Tiger is now a Taylor-made guy.

PD

Why do shows like Rush Limbaugh still exist then?

Because he's worth listening to? Oh, no, that couldn't be it.

PD

Tiger is also rated 663 in the world now. Be still my heart.

(not a Tiger fan; apologies to all Tiger fans)

Cecil Turner

Why do shows like Rush Limbaugh still exist then?

People will seek and tune in/support an alternative to the lib press. They won't look around for more of the same.

Thomas Collins

Well, Bay State JOMers must be thrilled, as Fast Eddie Markey keeps us on the cutting edge of protecting America from Trump.

Question: Why do people say "bigly" when Trump himself says "big league"? Just because it's so much more fun to say?

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

The only thing that bothers me about any SCOTUS pick is the likelihood of another Souter.

I don't care if he's Trump's long lost identical twin and secret business partner as long as he upholds the constitution.

HATEFUL EIGHT.

America First! (Native Americans: go home)

AN Arab, a Mexican and an Apache walk into this bar.....

Robin, Ithaca is Gorges....and crazy

What I love about that Rush Limbaugh commentary is that the station manager is saying the Limbaugh has a huge local audience. IN ITHACA! Bwahhahaha.

Cecil Turner

I don't care if he's Trump's long lost identical twin and secret business partner as long as he upholds the constitution.

So you'd be okay with his sister? AFAICT, she's actually pretty well qualified.

You got it. People know it's "big league," but some of us love "bigly."

p.s. sometimes I think he actually does say "bigly" in characteristic troll fashion. ;)

Cecil Turner

Are they looking at absentee ballots? Because those votes are about 10x easier to steal.

DebinNC

Hardiman born and raised in MA, Notre Dame and Georgetown grad. Offices in Pittsburgh. Hmm... Another blue state steeped justice? Not reassuring to me in GA not wanting another Souter, also from MA.

Friday?

DIdn't even notice that. :-)

So the headline was incorrect *and* para 1 was incorrect.

Way to go Screech!

Old Lurker

Anybody in the real world who has ever dealt with big accounting firms during an audit is familiar with the sampling techniques available to drill down as in forensic accounting to discover fraud. I see no reason that testing the statistical validity of who voted would be any different than testing the validity of, say, accounts receivable.

Just pick a few heavy D, heavy non-English Districts and tear into them and into the death and residency records that support the rights of those voters.

The tale will be told.

(And I doubt that it will be pretty.)

Threadkiller

Yep, PD.

:-)

DebinNC

As the WH Press/MSM continue Operation "They lie, lie, lie", a clear method to Trump's supposed madness is revealed.

PD

DebinNC's link, very interesting read.

buccaneer morgan

Yes remember when the post criticized an ad, re Fannie and Freddie contributions to zippy and salon, based on their own reporting.

henry

from the chitown lurking unit:

Ask OL if he would try registry audit, or just county registry per empty lot for that fraud?

Beasts of England

As I told ChiTown Lurker this morning: BOzo and the lefties are going to regret him labling elections as critical infrastructure. :)

That's the non-linear thinking that got the asbestos out of altgelt gardens.

Beasts of England

Exactly right, henry. The forecast calls for pain!

buccaneer morgan

Even more salty tears, from carlos slims, trump to reopen rendition and interrogation centers

Cecil Turner

I see no reason that testing the statistical validity of who voted would be any different . . .

Yep. And checking on the registration side would catch most of the absentee stuff as well (except for otherwise valid ballots actually changed by workers, which I presume is a relatively small part).

Jane

I think Trump's investigation into voter fraud is brilliant, because it opens the door for voter ID.

I'd like to think Trump was 3 steps ahead and said that stuff anticipating the reaction of the stupid ass liberal media and then seizing the opportunity handed to him, but that may be a step too far.

DebinNC

2006 law signed by BOzo, Hillary, and Biden will allow Trump to build a "substantial" border wall. Delicious.

HATEFUL EIGHT.

Heh. That former concern...debt will make y'all scramble for alternative facts when butcher's bill for the wall returns ADDRESS UNKNOWN..lol.

buccaneer morgan

And eichenwald has hit peak crazy, how can one tell?

Old Lurker

Chi Lurker and Cecil...the nice thing about a well designed sampling is that it can drill down into great detail...and unlike the usual Government Inspector General type investigation, a good audit will report out not just "good" or "bad" but also "can not be verified" and that is important because it penalizes a burrowed in staff which does not want the truth known. Again, in the real world, an audit report to a board which scores into those three baskets will always find a good board equating "bad" and "could not be verified" as pretty much just as bad and heads roll in both cases.

Jim Eagle

If the press were smart they would read "The Art of the Deal" before they react to everyone of his actions as if he just lost his mind.

hrtshpdbox

I think Trump's investigation into voter fraud is brilliant, because it opens the door for voter ID.

Yes, I agree. The voting system is something that people talk about every four years, and then forget about. Most Americans support voter ID, and Trump might be just the person to finally make it happen.

Dorothy Jane

Obscene profit breaks - that's why Rush exists. And the people who listen hear the advert and many actually RESPOND and PURCHASE! These people are hopelessly clueless.

I think he knows exactly what he is doing. He is inarticulate and clumsy, but to think that makes him a ineffective tactician would be a mistake. That is when you get your clock cleaned.

Beasts of England

Amen, Buckeye!!

Trump has already baked the cake, baby. Everything else is layers and layers of pure butter icing. Who knows - we may even get a double scoop of praline ice cream on the side.

glasater

Late to the party regarding Patty Murray on the previous thread but I photographed her a couple of times for events covered by our local newspaper with reporters.

Patty doesn't make a move without a 'handler' in close proximity watching every move she makes. And every word she speaks is scripted for her. She is a blank slate that Fed/state/local unions write upon.

buccaneer morgan

No, he's blunt, Romney tried nuanced, he got burned on both ends, maverick didn't even try, for the most part.

No, he's blunt

No argument with that Narciso:)

Sample vote audit from Milwaukee 2008:

Note this is real and easy to measure. (thanks to our Chicago friend for finding the link)

Old Lurker

From Henry's link, last paragraph: "The time to stop voter fraud is prior to when the questionable ballot is mixed in with all the valid votes," he says.

Anyone have any doubt why Trump & Spicer are keeping this alive? 2018 is right around the corner.

So easy to see. So easy to fix.

DebinNC

Still no msm interest in solving the riddle of why over a third of Detroit voting precincts recorded more votes than voters

Buckeye

Did anyone watch the footage of yesterday's meeting with the auto makers?

As the greetings and small talk ended and everyone was getting ready to sit down, Trump pushed in Mary Barra's chair for her.

I was just waiting for the press to jump all over him for being a chauvinist instead of noting his gentlemanly behavior.

Mary smiled Bigly:)

I think the press is already so befuddled that they don't know whether to "shit or go blind":)

They sure as hell can't keep up.

buccaneer morgan

And who is still foolish enough to have anything to do with perky Katie, Hugh!

Buckeye

So Beasts,

do you pronounce that "pray leans" or "prahh leans"?

Just checking:)

Old Lurker

And at what age does a lady not want to be known as "perky"?

JimNorCal

"Why do people say "bigly" when Trump himself says "big league"? Just because it's so much more fun to say?"

Not being a news junkie (other than reading JOM and Instapundit, and I rarely click through even there) I didn't know this :) :)
Actually, this is a tidbit worth knowing. The lawyer daughter who graduated 4 years ago trends liberal but is noticing that her taxes are obscene. She lives just outside Manhatten in Long Island City and I can ask if "bigly" is Queens accent for big league when we next talk politics.

Buckeye

And at what age does a lady not want to be known as "perky"?

Depends on how much "winning" they have experienced.

Dave (in MA)

Lots of FB wharrgarbl about the pipelines since yesterday. Apparently Trump did this because he owns stock in the companies involved. Apparently these little WhaaahTrumpers heat their houses and run their cars by magic.

CA is one (not surprising Hillary won)"

Captain Hate

They're in the Costanza Frankenstein mode: "I created this monster by accident and the jerk store won't take him off my hands."

Old Lurker

Old Lurker

BTW, Fox should save that headline. They can use it over and over and just change the story which follows...

Captain Hate

And at what age does a lady not want to be known as "perky"?

You're talking about a fellow Hoo.

DebinNC

VP Pence swears in Nikki Haley as UN Amb this morning. Odd to see "her friend" Marco Rubio by her side instead of her husband and children.

Old Lurker

Stop that Cap'n, or I will have to mention some turtles we can blame on you.

And yes, the perky one is far from the worst we have produced. Starting at least with Ted Kennedy who was in my Dad's Law School class.

Old Lurker

BTW is it true that, speaking of turtles, the Senate is away for two days so the Reps can have a retreat, leaving the Cabinet mostly empty?

Nice touch, that.

DebinNC

Dem slimeballs blocking Trump's Ed nominee by forcing her to answer 1397 questions in writing v. ~50 questions for each of BOzo's SOEs.

Sales of George Orwell's '1984' are suddenly on the rise

https://www.yahoo.com/news/sales-george-orwells-1984-suddenly-rise-160752184.html

I'd guess due to sales on the left. I know that when Obama was elected, I suddenly became much more interested in this genre.

Captain Hate

Fellow turtles like Steny Hoyer? Yes we have our share of embarrassments. The only reason I mention Grind Dance Katie is that she's so outspoken about her alma mater, including one time letting loose with a Wahoo-Wa which only confused a grad of Virginia Tech.

Jim Eagle

Deb,

She can answer everyone of those in 1 hour or less.

"Thank you, Senator for your question(s)/remarks. Once confirmed I will work with you to answer your concerns."

Use 1,397 times.

buccaneer morgan

No evidence about the press,

I found her a spiteful shrew, but your mileage may vary.

As the Dilbert dude said, Trump's a mile inside their OODA loop, and there's not a damned thing they can do about it. Before The Donald, the only thing faster than Superman was a member of the GOPe grabbing his ankles for the MSM. No mas. No mas!

That sawed-off little fop insinuates himself into any opportunity where he can grandstand some kind of fake support for "our side" while doing "litralee" nada zippo for anybody but himself.

Someone needs to drive a stake through his ambitions to take up air running for president against the incumbent. It will be the zombie walk of the Never Trumpers.

Eichenwald looks like he came out of a wormhole from the 70s, particularly with their horrible grooming habits.

Cecil Turner

BTW is it true that, speaking of turtles, the Senate is away for two days so the Reps can have a retreat, leaving the Cabinet mostly empty?

I'd say that's true but incomplete and misleading per this story:

Donald Trump will headline the congressional Republican retreat in late January, which will be held just five days after he is sworn in as president.

Trump will attend along with his vice president, Mike Pence, GOP aides confirmed.

Republicans will meet in Philadelphia for a few days beginning Wednesday, Jan. 25. The retreat is aimed at giving House and Senate lawmakers a chance to plan their 2017 agenda, in particular how they will reform health care and the tax code.

As to the cabinet delays, they appear to be driven by Dems' use of Senate rules:
But under committee rules, any lawmaker can ask that a nomination be held over for a week if it's on the agenda for the first time.
If you can't have the committee vote until next week . . .

IMO nominating a judge who is a colleague of his sister is not nepotism. Period. How does she benefit in the least?

Nominating his sister would be nepotism. She is in fact well-respected. But nepotism aside, she's going on 80, so is an unlikely choice.

Jane

"Most Americans support voter ID, and Trump might be just the person to finally make it happen."

One more thing: Voting laws have always been a state issue, until about a month ago when that asshole Jeh Johnson implemented some stupid thing making the feds in charge. Voter ID, here we come.
