House Republicans began the new year with a ceremonial beclowning:
House Republicans, Under Fire, Back Down on Gutting Ethics Office
...
The day after House Republicans voted to eliminate an independent ethics body, members returned to work on Tuesday to find their offices inundated with angry missives from constituents amid a national uproar.
By midmorning, Mr. Trump had weighed in, questioning the members’ priorities on Twitter. Shortly after, lawmakers were summoned to the basement of the Capitol for a hastily convened meeting with Republican leaders.
Representative Kevin McCarthy of California, the majority leader — who, along with Speaker Paul D. Ryan, had opposed the proposal — lobbed a pointed question at his fellow Republicans, according to two people present: Had they campaigned on repealing the Affordable Care Act, or tinkering with an ethics office? Minutes later, members emerged to say the changes had been scrapped.
Hard to believe these are the skilled professionals ready to lead this great nation. And one does wonder - how lame must Pelosi and her Dems have been to lose to these guys?
Still, we welcome the Ryan/Trump alliance, however fleeting it may be.

Fortunately, DJT was elected. Now the challenge was to make the newer flagpole reflective of the optimism and JOY I was feeling.
Part of the challenge is the weather here in 49242 this time of the year, not entirely dissimilar to henry's, MM's GUS', PDinDeroit's... (Who else is local ? Perhaps a meet-up in 49242 one day ? Tony Esolen is graduation guest speaker this eyar, in May... I digress.)
Yesterday was almost spring-like with temps near 40 and wind only about 15, so I was able to effect the finishing bits & pieces to the pole:

Reposting from prior thread:
Suppose the Russians hacked the IRS and released Trump's tax return. How would you feel about that?
Appalled,
I don't see how that's a relevant analogy. The Russians didn't release anything at all, let alone a tax return.
There is perhaps some evidence that the Russians may have hacked the DNC. That is not confirmation that they were Wikileaks' source on anything. Given the laxity of security it's probable that many different actors were able to access that data as well as Podesta's email.
Moreover, the evidence of Russian hacking is in some dispute, and its release and amplification is suspect because of obvious political motivations.
Then there is the completely erroneous charge of Russians hacking the actual elections, which is meant to be conflated with Wikileaks, and which the public is consuming in large amounts, as intended by those who are planting the story in the fake news media, which is to say the Democrats.

I shudder to think who "they" are. Seems foolish to rush out another plan before people fully experience the negative repercussions of BOzocare, including the spiraling premiums and the astronomical costs of invader/refugee freeloaders BOzo has brought in and added on. I hope "first on the docket" means the beginning of lengthy public hearings providing irrefutable truth about the mess BOzo and Dems foisted on an unwilling nation without the vote of a single Republican.

The stuff being done January 20 is the beginning of the repeal process. I am sure they will have hearings.
However, I don't think a lot of people need further convincing. Repeal was one of Trump's most popular campaign positions. I do agree that hearings for those who are on employer plans would be helpful, since they aren't hit as hard as the people who have to go buy on the exchanges.
There are also many areas of the country which now only have on health insurance company available. That is going to have to be addressed as well.

Appalled,
So far I have the following:
The CIA missed the Fall of the Berlin Wall.
They were pretty much wrong about WMD's in Iraq.
A known CIA former employee, Evan McMullen, was photographed with John McCain in Syria hob-nobbing with "freedom fighters" who were actually ISIS people. He then subsequently ran for president and is still on Twitter attacking Trump every chance he gets.
This morning Chuck Schumer threatened Trump about intelligence agencies (probably CIA) getting back at Trump.
The head of the CIA is a shady character who is a Muslim convert and who has politicized the agency more than any time in history.
Meanwhile, Assange has a 100% record for accuracy, whether you like what he releases or not.
So why exactly should I believe the CIA?

I don't know what else Ryan and McConnell have been doing the last few years more than preparing for this BOzoCare battle. I hope Trump and his experts are thoroughly involved in the process of crafting the best alternative long before any bill is put up for a vote. I don't care how long Paul Ryan's bill, or Tom Price's bill, or whoever else's have been moldering in a drawer somewhere. Trump only gets one chance at a first impression, and if the BOzocare replacement is to be center-stage, it needs to be fabulous and the effort to pass it an unqualified success so that Dems will be afraid not to vote for it imo.

Mark Steyn starts off sitting in for Rush this morning by telling that Julian Assange revealed that the password to get into John Podesta's E-mail account was "password." Brilliant, no?
Then Cavuto has on some CIA analyst named Fred Fleitz, who says he worked at the Agency for 19 years before moving to the State Department as a Spokesman. He says this about Trump:
(Cavuto starts by playing a clip of Assange saying to Hannity that a 14 year old kid could have easily hacked Podesta. Then Cavuto plays Trump's tweet: "Julian Assange said "a 14 year old could have hacked Podesta" - why was DNC so careless? Also said Russians did not give him the info!"
Cavuto: Who's right Fred, I'm confused?
Fred Fleitz: Neil, lest start off with I was an Intelligence Analyst for 19 years. US Intelligence Analysis is usually accurate, it's usually based on facts, but it's opinion, it's sometimes wrong, and sometimes horribly wrong. I think Donald Trump is suspicious of Intelligence Analysis because of it's record, and now he sees this assessment that The Russians were behind fixing the Election, but the Intelligence Community won't brief this analysis to Congress, but at the same time the analysis is being leaked to the news media to hurt Trump. So Trump is justified in looking at other sources of information and I also think he's justified in being concerned about the objectivity of US Intelligence Agencies.
Cavuto: ...Is Donald Trump risking going too far the other way?...
Fred Fleitz: I think Donald Trump has to recognize that Russia does represent a serious Security Threat to the US, but let me point something out, the Wall St Journal has reported that Russia has placed software to undermine the US Electrical grid, very serious software that we don't understand. Do you know when that was reported? 2009. And China has done it also. The threat from Cyber Warfare is sever, not just from Russia, and I think we need a reevaluation...
Cavuto: But Fred, who's a bigger (cyber) threat?...
Fred Fleitz: I think between China and Russia I would make China a bigger threat but I think they are both significant threats.

Good workout (it helps to be caffeinated and irritable). I'm with Appalled to this extent: I wouldn't bet on the Russians not being involved. We know they have lots of cyber-stuff going on, and it generally fits their MO. Assange's disclaimer means less than nothing: his info could come from a cutout who's a Russki stooge, and he's a known anti-US propagandist. The intel guys apparently believe it's so, and they've got a pretty good vantage point--but they're not going to show their work.
That said, what they've shown so far has been unimpressive. My brother (who's very smart at this sort of thing) says you could find those tools on reddit: they mean nothing. Ditto with the phishing scheme. And perhaps the intel analysts looking at it are reading more into some bit than they should (like they did Colin Powell's famous radio intercept that purportedly pushed authority to launch chem attacks down to the tactical level). But they've got something they think is solid, and it may well be.

Old Lurker,
I don't think he reads many of my posts, or he would have seen the link to the actual photos on Conservative Treehouse.
That's ok. It's just a coincidence that McMullen worked for the CIA for 7 years and then went to refugee resettlement with the UN and then got a job as senior advisor to the House Foreign Relations Committee.
And it's just a coincidence that all of the guys in the photo with McCain were identified as ISIS. Just like it was a coincidence that McMullen's area of expertise was to get radical Muslims to work with the US.
And iti's just a coincidence when Trump became the nominee that suddenly McMullen who coincidentally was in the CIA for 7 years, suddenly decided to run for president in an effort to steal Utah's electoral votes so that the election would be thrown to the House. And he is still trying to undermine Trump on Twitter. But hey, what do I know?
Just coincidences. Nothing here.
Has anyone interviewed McMullen about this stuff? Why not?

John McCain, by temperment and history, isn't knowingly going to do business with ISIS. To suggest otherwise really turns somebody you disagree with into a cardboard villain. If he is meeting with these guys, its probably due to some very bad staff work.
I have seen the picture before. It is frankly meaningless to me as I don't have a great sense of what the lead guys in Isis look like.
As for McMullen, I doubt he's some sort of Manchurian candidate (if he is, he is pretty pathetic one), but I do wonder about who is behind him. He gets far more attention than a third party candidate who did well in one state rates.

Miss M:
There is another narrative associated with that picture. YMMV.

President Obama Intentionally Allowed Rise of ISIS…

Appalled,
Your source for the other narrative is the New York Times. They would deny it if DNA test results confirmed it.
Why NOW is this suddenly a story in the New York Times? They sure weren't very interested 2 years ago, until this suddenly started being pointed out on blogs.
I still want an exlanation of Evin McMullen being in that photo, grinning like a Dheshire cat. I notice that the Times used only one person, not the five who were in the photo on Treehouse. And no mention of McMullen at all. Norfor that matter, did they mention that Adam Kinzinger is also in that group.

Appalled...mine too.

Thanks, daddy! You are quick with the photos, and I thank you.
I also notice in the New York Times report that they are doing the Obama trick, conflating photos in the ISIS magazine, which may have been doctored, with other photos, including those provided by McCain himself.
Appalled says this might have been a staff screw-up. Well, who is the staff who screwed up?
Why look there, it's Evan McMullen, who coincidentally worked for the CIA and was really good at getting cooperation with jihadis.
What are the odds?

I would love to have Trump announce Jan 21 that that elevator will be replaced by the end of the year at the latest. He has certainly bought a lot of elevators over the years and I'd bet he could make it happen with a phone call.

Old Lurker,
Wolfman Skating Rink time, all over the country!!

OK, where you are is the Russians are not responsible for getting the info from the DNC or Podesta to wikileaks. Because you trust Assange more than the CIA.
No, because Occam's razor says the Russians weren't necessary. An inside source was always the most logical conclusion, because it's just plain simpler and easier to pull off, and because so many Dems including Dem insiders were pissed off at how Sanders was treated.
Had this not been obvious to nearly all, we would have heard howls about the Russkies much earlier.
It would be interesting if the CIA could supply the first and last known dates of Russian fingerprints on whatever CIA says the Russians accessed, so that we could see if Wikileaks supplied material outside that date range. Somehow I don't think that's forthcoming, and I suspect you don't, either.

John McCain is a bigger narcissist than Obama - and that's a bell you don't get to ring very often. I don't put anything past Johnny if it serves his ego. Nothing at all.

Yep, MM.
With a single stroke he can repair a monument that the Swamp folks cannot, and which the left likes to shut down every budget cycle.
The entire Pentagon was designed and constructed faster in the 40's that the 2017 Swamp Rats need to fix one elevator in an existing shaft in a moderate height building, hardly a skyscraper.

The entire Pentagon was designed and constructed faster in the 40's
They built the 1,387 Mile long AlCan Highway in the middle of WW2 in less time than it'll take to fix 1 Elevator in Washington DC.

And probably at less cost.
Posted by: daddy | January 04, 2017 at 03:02 PM
I can get that elevator up and running in less than a year and I have no idea what the issue is about or how bad the problem. You just have to have a procurement strategy and day by day plan everyone is committed to but then you're doing this for the National Park Service who probably no f**k all about urgency and commitment to schedule.
Its the Wollmen Ice Rink by the way. One of Frederick's favorite skating destinations.
