Heh. It shows. It had better improve for your own longevity, narcissus.

Buckeye

Test. Tough love on the internet in Zaventem's Sheraton.

Could be worse Jack, you could be in the Beijing Sheraton.

Porchlight

Yeah, crazy, huh?

Following along on Reddit, the police scanners are apparently saying there are still reports of multiple shooters. I don't know what to believe.

Jack is Back!

Well, from my perch, it can't be a Mohammedan since CNN is spending too much time on it here in the Lounge.

daddy

Currently in Memphis. Arrived about 1 AM this morning, just before a tiny bit of snow started falling. We leave about 4 AM tonight for Paris, and due to conditions here potentially making us have to go through deicing and anti-icing procedures, they've sent out a bulletin asking us all to read up on it and to be prepared. It'll be the first night this season where we may have to deice/anti-ice in Memphis, and the whole place goes into total chaos each and every year until they get the bugs worked out all over again. I'm trying to think of a non-racist way to describe it, but I keep coming back to "a Chinese Fire drill."

Guilty as charged:)

lyle

I think someone linked or alluded to this earlier:

Come on out to EyeDeeHo, Ralph. We already have the camps that your party's patron saint put up in the 30s. Remember those? But don't be surprised if no one knows or gives a shit who you are. You might properly be repelled by all the friendliness from all us hayseed rubes, though...

Latest re the 4 Chicago cretins - no bail, victim has ADD and schizophrenia, cretin Hill tried to extort money from parents, females went on rampage against neighbor who called LE- "Go get a gun", ...

daddy

BTW,

Our Aleutian Volcano has continued to explode, apparently sending up another blast to the 30,000 foot level today: Bogoslof: Color Code RED Alert Level WARNING

Listening to MSNBC and finding out that the shooter flew in from Canada and had checked his 9 Millimeter Handgun with Canadian Authorities prior to the flight. Apparently upon arrival in Florida he retrieved his gun, then loaded and started firing.

Thank goodness he didn't bring in any Kinder Eggs from Canada.

Jack is Back!

We have a Chinese fire drill under way currently in the Club Lounge of the Sheraton. Grandma plus daughter, her older kid and a young kid feeling their way around the wine and cheese and fruit. Choosing fruit and cappuccino. Go figure.

We have an eclectic crowd in the Lounge. A young english couple and she is my hero since she found where they store the wine. A Chinese family, sans the man. 4 heavily tatted Belgian guys, one of whom looks like he may have used a gun in anger once or twice and a young Vietnamese cleaning girl.

Who said we can't all get along.

Marlene

Deb,did I read somewhere that one of the female Chicago perps has two children? Good Lord!

daddy

Marlene,

My initial knee-jerk is that if he was living in Alaska it likely was as a result of being stationed up there in the Military. No facts to back that up whatever, but he's the correct age for such a thing. I imagine we'll find out in the next few hours.

lyle

What a guy.

lyle

You know what, Zippy? You should give yourself another medal. You know, for healing all the racial wounds in our society. How did we ever deserve you?

daddy

MSNBC says from this Canadien Location he departed from, you clear US Customs at the Airport in Canada prior to the flight, so having cleared US Customs there you arrive in the US simply as a domestic flight which does not require having to go through US Customs upon arrival.

I'm watching MSNBC since Shep Smith is unlistenable.

DebinNC

Yes, the 24 yo has 2 kids iirc, Marlene. She also has an adult arrest record. The foolishly paternalistic, jail time-averse Chicago judges played a huge part in the ~800 killed and many more wounded in 2016 imo.

Porchlight

If this guy has a criminal conviction on his record wouldn't it have been illegal for him to possess/transport firearms even if others can do so legally?

lyle

Another hate crime. No, the airport shooting. This:

http://www.marketwatch.com/story/apple-cuts-ceo-tim-cooks-pay-citing-performance-2017-01-06

(I'm not in the least making light of the horrible shooting just letting my inner SJW out for a spin.)

lyle

Porch: yes.

DebinNC

BOzo seems compelled to immediately run to the nearest mic to defend himself/his record daily. What's he going to do after Jan. 20? If he keeps it up, I think his mental pathology will finally be impossible to hide or excuse.

Buckeye

Porch

Same guys that developed the database for checking to see if gun runners have felonies are same guys who developed Obamacare website:)

lyle

http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2017/01/schumer-talks-tough-on-obamacare-does-he-have-a-good-hand.php

But even if Schumer’s hand is only so-so, he might play it well enough to win. He knows that congressional Republicans are cautious and prone to blinking when the going gets tough. Often, rather than going to the mat, they take the easy way out.

The easy way out in the coming battle over replacing Obamacare care would be to “replace” that Act with something similar but with enough differences to make Republicans feel they can save a little bit of face. The alternative — gambling their position of power on outdebating Chuck Schumer, backed up by the mainstream media, in a blame game over a mini-health insurance crisis — isn’t likely to appeal to Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan.

"Often"? How about "every stinking time." And any rogue R that defies the establishment gets shivved by them.

Marlene

The shooter's flight was on Air Canada. Speaking of Canada, the northern border is wide open. We could take you on a Jeep ride and show you how easy it would be to cross over.

Gentlejim

Porch,
It depends on the conviction. If it's a felony or domestic related misdemeanor the answer is yes.

Porchlight

lyle, Buckeye, thanks for the info. Got to be prepared for the gun grabbers wanting to eliminate checked firearm transport.

By the way, looks like the white Hispanic narrative might not work out so well:

Here is what candidate Trump said about his intentions on Day One in office:

"But none of these positive reforms can be accomplished without Obamacare repeal. On day one of the Trump Administration, we will ask Congress to immediately deliver a full repeal of Obamacare."

Suggests to me POTUS may be preparing a multiple front blitz attack against Schumer. A Cloward-Pivens strategy ya might say. How ironic.

There aren't enough Schumer's and Legosi's to go around with all these fights they have coming.

And if the HORs cave on Obamacare re the immediate delivery thing (Mark Levin said yesterday that Kelly Conway and company are "fine" with retaining parts of Ocare that work) that they will have to give him something in return.

What might that be?

https://pjmedia.com/trending/2017/01/06/climate-change-is-there-anything-it-cant-do//?singlepage=true

Walsh quotes some knob in the LAT:

From numerous studies, scientists know that climate destablization — from the burning of fossil fuels in places such as the U.S., China and India — is causing drought in the Middle East. In fact, for the last decade or so, Syria and the eastern Mediterranean have been in the midst of their worst drought in nine centuries. The effect has been to turn Syria’s once-productive soil into hard-baked clay...

Climate change as an underlying cause of social conflict is rarely front and center in the news, but it has been documented by a variety of experts....

In Aleppo, the blasted concrete walls are not just an outcome of conflict. They are also, unexpectedly, part of the cause...

The ruins of Aleppo graphically illustrate our species’ current misguided path. But properly understood, they are also an opportunity for clarity, redirection and hope.

Give up your concrete, infidels!

Here's one example of Trump's multi-front attack using the EmoCrat stronghold issues of Energy and Environment.

While the EmoCrats lay down their Maginot line to defend ObamaCare, the tanks will be rollin through their ground troops as Mr. Dellingpole tells us.

HOW WE KNOW TRUMP MEANS BUSINESS
January 5, 2017 | By James Delingpole

Donald Trump really is going to make America great again.

It wasn’t just a campaign slogan: Trump is for real—and one of the great pleasures in the coming years is going to be the joy of watching all those pundits who think he’s going to be a disaster being proved wrong again and again.

Nowhere will this be more evident than in his policies on energy and the environment.

I made a trip to Washington just before Christmas to check out the lie of the land. What I wanted to find out was just how serious Trump is about slaying the Green Blob which has caused so much misery and expense in the U.S. and across the world for the last thirty or forty years.

And after a series of private briefings with administration insiders and members of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy, I came back heartened.

Here’s how one of them put it:

“Trump is going to send his tanks into the swamp from Day One. He knows there isn’t time to lose and he knows that every day that passes those tanks are going to get sucked deeper into the slime…” [by ‘the slime’ my anonymous informant meant, of course, the liberal/DC establishment which will do everything in its power to frustrate Trump] “…We’re going to go in fast and we’re going to go in hard. They won’t know what hit them.”

And let’s make something clear to all those ‘sensible’ conservatives—the centrist squishes who supported #NeverTrump and who will insist, even now, on telling us how uncomfortable they feel about the new regime, as though having a left-wing, establishment crook like Hillary would have been preferable—Trump is the ONLY Republican candidate who would have made this stuff happen.

Compare and contrast what would have happened if a “safe” GOP candidate like Jeb Bush was now on his way to the White House.

During the presidential campaigns, Jeb Bush was asked what his policy on the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) would be if he got elected: “I’ll hire the best people. And I’ll do the right thing,” he said.

In other words, Jeb Bush would have done precisely zilch to rein in one of the most destructive, overbearing and uncontrollable agencies within the U.S. government.

Trump is different because, unlike his mainstream GOP former rivals he feels absolutely no need to compromise or to green virtue-signal.

He has never made any bones about his conviction that “climate change” is a con and that the US economy has been held hostage by eco-loons and that blue-collar Americans have been denied jobs because of the environmental policies imposed on them by uptown pajama boys.

So what are his plans for energy and the environment?

Well in fact, it’s no secret. He set them out very clearly in the speech he gave on May 26, 2016 in North Dakota.

Here is my 100-day action plan:

We’re going to rescind all the job-destroying Obama executive actions including the Climate Action Plan and the Waters of the U.S. rule.
We’re going to save the coal industry and other industries threatened by Hillary Clinton’s extremist agenda.

I’m going to ask Trans Canada to renew its permit application for the Keystone Pipeline.

We’re going to lift moratoriums on energy production in federal areas

We’re going to revoke policies that impose unwarranted restrictions on new drilling technologies. These technologies create millions of jobs with a smaller footprint than ever before.

We’re going to cancel the Paris Climate Agreement and stop all payments of U.S. tax dollars to U.N. global warming programs.

Any regulation that is outdated, unnecessary, bad for workers, or contrary to the national interest will be scrapped. We will also eliminate duplication, provide regulatory certainty, and trust local officials and local residents.
Any future regulation will go through a simple test: is this regulation good for the American worker? If it doesn’t pass this test, the rule will not be approved.

What’s so brilliant about this—and why Trump’s critics underestimate him at their peril—is that it expresses more clearly than any leading conservative politician has ever done before that environmentalism is essentially an attack on jobs and growth.

At one point, it states it more explicitly still:

“Here’s what it comes down to. Wealth versus poverty.”

And:

“It’s a choice between sharing in this great energy wealth, or sharing in the poverty promised by Hillary Clinton.”

Trump gets it in a way that more “sophisticated” conservative leaders have failed to do for four decades: greenies are the enemies of prosperity; they are most especially the enemies of people like the non-liberal Americans who live outside the big cities.

One of my informants explained:

“Democrats have been waging a war on rural Americans for years. And the Bushes didn’t do a damn thing to help them. Trump actually promised he would do something and the voters got that. These are his people and he gets the problem.

If you dig up stuff, if you make stuff, if you grow stuff then for the first time since Reagan you have a president who has actually got your back.”

Bottom line: the Trump presidency will mark a turning point in global energy policy and in our attitude to the environment in general and policies like renewables in particular.

One thing we can confidently predict in the next few years is that the Greenies are in for a world of pain and disappointment. And it really couldn’t happen to a bunch of more deserving people.

How will The Clown be able to fight back popular opinion on these specific health care planks that Trump will propose Day One:

"Congress must act. Our elected representatives in the House and Senate must:

Completely repeal Obamacare. Our elected representatives must eliminate the individual mandate. No person should be required to buy insurance unless he or she wants to.

Modify existing law that inhibits the sale of health insurance across state lines. As long as the plan purchased complies with state requirements, any vendor ought to be able to offer insurance in any state. By allowing full competition in this market, insurance costs will go down and consumer satisfaction will go up.

Allow individuals to fully deduct health insurance premium payments from their tax returns under the current tax system. Businesses are allowed to take these deductions so why wouldn’t Congress allow individuals the same exemptions? As we allow the free market to provide insurance coverage opportunities to companies and individuals, we must also make sure that no one slips through the cracks simply because they cannot afford insurance. We must review basic options for Medicaid and work with states to ensure that those who want healthcare coverage can have it.

Allow individuals to use Health Savings Accounts (HSAs). Contributions into HSAs should be tax-free and should be allowed to accumulate. These accounts would become part of the estate of the individual and could be passed on to heirs without fear of any death penalty. These plans should be particularly attractive to young people who are healthy and can afford high-deductible insurance plans. These funds can be used by any member of a family without penalty. The flexibility and security provided by HSAs will be of great benefit to all who participate.
Require price transparency from all healthcare providers, especially doctors and healthcare organizations like clinics and hospitals. Individuals should be able to shop to find the best prices for procedures, exams or any other medical-related procedure.

Block-grant Medicaid to the states. Nearly every state already offers benefits beyond what is required in the current Medicaid structure. The state governments know their people best and can manage the administration of Medicaid far better without federal overhead. States will have the incentives to seek out and eliminate fraud, waste and abuse to preserve our precious resources.

Remove barriers to entry into free markets for drug providers that offer safe, reliable and cheaper products. Congress will need the courage to step away from the special interests and do what is right for America. Though the pharmaceutical industry is in the private sector, drug companies provide a public service. Allowing consumers access to imported, safe and dependable drugs from overseas will bring more options to consumers. "
