Professor Obama chimes in on the "irreversible momentum" of clean energy, yet seems to indicate that future policy choices will influence our eventual energy path.
So, is the momentum for clean energy irreversible unless it is reversed? I'm not sure what I am being told here. Nor can I guess at his intent. If his goal is to take the pressure off Trump and talk the Hillary/Obama crowd in from their various window ledges, I suppose a "Trump Doesn't Matter" essay might make sense. or maybe he is hoping to persuade the international community of that notion.
Who knows? And, after checking the calendar, who cares? I'll guess at another motivation - since this paper is nicely foot-noted and appears in "Science", maybe Prof. O is hoping to snag another Nobel Prize on his way out the door. Bookends!
SINCE YOU ASK: NO, the word "fracking" does not appear. Waddya, kidding? He does acknowledge that US carbon emissions fell while the economy grew in part due to a shift to natural gas from coal, without using the five letter word:
Since 2008, the United States has experienced the first sustained period of rapid GHG emissions reductions and simultaneous economic growth on record. Specifically, CO2 emissions from the energy sector fell by 9.5% from 2008 to 2015, while the economy grew by more than 10%. In this same period, the amount of energy consumed per dollar of real gross domestic product (GDP) fell by almost 11%, the amount of CO2 emitted per unit of energy consumed declined by 8%, and CO2 emitted per dollar of GDP declined by 18% (2).
The importance of this trend cannot be understated. This “decoupling” of energy sector emissions and economic growth should put to rest the argument that combatting climate change requires accepting lower growth or a lower standard of living.
...
The IEA noted that “There have been only four periods in the past 40 years in which CO2 emission levels were flat or fell compared with the previous year, with three of those—the early 1980s, 1992, and 2009—being associated with global economic weakness. By contrast, the recent halt in emissions growth comes in a period of economic growth.”
...
The American electric-power sector—the largest source of GHG emissions in our economy—is being transformed, in large part, because of market dynamics. In 2008, natural gas made up ~21% of U.S. electricity generation. Today, it makes up ~33%, an increase due almost entirely to the shift from higher-emitting coal to lower-emitting natural gas, brought about primarily by the increased availability of low-cost gas due to new production techniques (2, 15).
Mysterious "new production techniques.
Obama also explains that public policy must continue to incentive businesses to improve their bottom lines by conserving energy, since businessmen (and women! Also, the gender-fluid) can't figure out for themselves that cutting costs and reducing the efficiency of their energy usage can improve the venerable bottom line. Yeah, I don't know why these business leaders are so foolish and short-sighted either, but thank heavens a former (and failed) community organizer is here to help straighten them out.

Bad move:
It's a losing strategy: you don't pin pawns with your queen.
Good move:
Pawn threatens King; Knight takes Pawn.
Of course there would be no good move if the 3AM bad move was never tweeted.
Here is a video of the Fox and friends interview that includes the long setup to Conway's excellent response:
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2017/01/09/kellyanne_conway_i_wish_meryl_streep_was_as_concerned_about_disabled_boy_tortured_on_facebook_live.html
I look at this chessboard as a multitasker. Trump's Queen did not get used at all in this set of moves. He wore a different hat to cause the mayhem that led to the Knight's better position. IMO he didn't even put on the hat of a Pawn. Instead he inserted a little red game piece from "Sorry!" into the traditional media Chessboard that went unnoticed.
They think they are playing the same game because they always think high level pieces are moving on the board. Not only are all the pieces moving, there are pieces they have never seen that are moving, as well as the whole board is spinning.
His tweeks take zero time and usually direct the game his way. Streep wasn't a Pawn in this set of moves. She is a high value piece. Look at the press she generated. I'd make her a Rook, and the Media the King.
Trump used a Sorry piece to disable their Rook and force their King to start dancing when they were confronted by his Knight.
I like it.

Sessions will recuse himself from Clinton. Says he would defer to a deputy to make decisions. Grassley helpfully points out that Lynch didn't do this. Heh.
Sessions says we do not prosecute political opponents but we also need to make sure people are not above the law.
Grassley asks him if he would submit to oversight, unlike many who have gone before, who says they will in confirmation hearings and then don't. Grassley gives him a bunch of letters sent to Obama's AG's which have never gone answered.

Cecil, Does this amount of homework fit with your knowledge of General Mattis? If so, he sure ain't mentally lazy.
At the time, he was a LtCol Inf Bn C.O. attached to a Task Force (Ripper) centered around a tank Bn. In effect, he was an alternate ops officer when he was doing staff work and of course commanded his own unit.
The few interactions I had with him were in his staff function, and no, he certainly wasn't lazy. In fact, they had a bunch of crazy ideas (in one, they proposed a bunch of 4-man infantry "hunter killer" teams with a TOW missile spread all over the desert: obviously unworkable and I don't know if Mattis himself was involved in that one, but you get the idea: highly innovative). As a loosely attached staff aviator, he mostly ignored me.
Trump used a Sorry piece to disable their Rook and force their King to start dancing when they were confronted by his Knight.
That's one way of looking at it. An alternate is that when he got around to delegating, he did a good job.
Just glancing at those tweets (about Russia, the disabled guy, intel weenies, dishonest media, and Streep), there's little doubt it's sucking up some of his brain bytes. And no offense TK, but if someone is going to convince me he's not fixated on minutiae, it probably won't be you.

This is simply a democrat vote fraud scheme. Everyone knows it, including the democrats.
The other thing is that states need to check for doubly registered people in two states, deceased voters still on the rolls, and fraudulent names and addresses.
A very long time ago the dems used to believe "One man, one vote." Since they have been taken over by the progressive left, they seem to have switched to the "as many votes as we need however e manufacture them" method.
