Is Trump's executive order on immigration even legal? Patterico is skeptical. IMHO, if we are going to implement extreme vetting of potential immigrants we might want to start with a modest vetting of the new rules beforehand. From the Times, which headlines the apparent flip-flop on green-card holders:
White House aides said on Saturday that there had been consultations with State Department and homeland security officials about carrying out the order. “Everyone who needed to know was informed,” one aide said.
But that assertion was denied by multiple officials with knowledge of the interactions, including two officials at the State Department. Leaders of Customs and Border Protection and of Citizenship and Immigration Services — the two agencies most directly affected by the order — were on a telephone briefing on the new policy even as Mr. Trump signed it on Friday, two officials said.
And is the new policy smart? Dan McLaughlin is dubious:
The Executive Order is not a Mount Sinai type pronouncement. It will be adjusted. It's a start. There are clearly implementation issues. Trump, however, is to be commended for taking on an issue neither party has been willing to address, namely, the national security and public safety dangers of an immigration policy the center of gravity of which is borderless world.

Red State should be embarrassed to publish anything that starts "I am not an immigration lawyer and do not claim any expertise in this area, but I’m capable of reading a statute and a legal argument, and I thought a post that analyzed the arguments of Bier and McCarthy might be useful to people interested in the topic."
He then starts many sections, after quoting legal text, "This seems to say..." Just [redacted] brilliant, Red State: Bring in Patterico Costanza to just wing it in an area in which he has no expertise.

I remain amazed at the idea that this EO wasn't "vetted", that it's unconstitutional, and the rest of the claptrap criticism from the press and supposed experts. Trump has had constitutional experts working on these EO's since right after the election. I saw the attorneys in the group entering the Trump Tower almost daily.
Why should I pay attention to Patterico? He's gone full DJT-derangement crazy.
William Jacobson of Legal Insurrection has an excellent discussion about how the media and the democrats are lying about the entire thing.
Here is the link:

This is a temporary ban. (90 days).
The president is well within his rights to do it.
The ban applies to all residents of the countries which were named in the LAW that OBAMA signed last year. The countries, again, were chosen by OBAMA's Department of Homeland Security.
The spectacle of people like Chuck Schumer CRYING over this is flat-out ridiculous. Anyone who thinks this isn't a long-overdue way to screen people is simply a victim of the news media.
I am disgusted with people like McCain who are using this as some sort of publicity for their efforts to prop up the interests which fund him.
What we see here is that the Left will use ANY opportunity, including trashing a law that their own former president signed himself, in order to create negative headlines for Trump.
And I don't want to hear the Chuck Todd-approved "we should have given people a week's warning." That gives terrorists a week to get into the country and escape the crackdown.
Pffft.
MY hope is that the coordination of these demonstrations at major airports gives DHS a reason to investigate who is doing it and arrest said instigators with charges of some sort. Michael Moore was on Twitter last night urging his followers to go to airports. Seems like a lot of bad apples have exposed themselves with this. I hope Soros is one who is caught in the net.

Had a guy who came up here on a legal visa working for my son. Nice guy, hard worker. Used to work on my garden on his days off for extra money, because his son needed heart surgery and he had to pay in advance. Sadly, the boy died.
I always felt bad for the people up here working, as they really missed their families.
I don't know the answer, but something has to be done about all of this (especially the cartels) or BOTH countries are going to be in bad shape.

Large-scale lefty outrage requires personnel, passion, and purse. Soros, Brock, Steyer, et al., can use their money to rent bodies, but because it's not organic, it's hard to sustain. Trump's flood-the-zone approach will lead to Peak Outrage very soon. Reacting to each incident by dialing it up to '11' wastes their limited emotional stability. Trump understands this, as do Bannon and Conway.

I’m away from my computer now so long posts are impractical. But I was able to get past the paywall of the NYT and read the entire piece by Bier. I’m less impressed by what he wrote than I am by the attempts of Patrick to fend off McCarthys rebuttal.
Basically Bier’s entire piece relies on a straw an, which he then attempts to knockdown. In his final paragraph he writes “If Mr. Trump [note the unwillingness to refer to him as “President”] can legally ban an entire region of the world…”
I can’t get beyond that because the EO does no such thing.
Further his piece is devoid of any support for HIS claim that the 1996 Amendment, which I’ve posited as completely undermining the basis for his claim the EO is illegal, had some unexpressed and hidden desire on the part of Congress that the “wanted the discrimination ban to hold some force.” Those are his words and he provides no cite, quote, or link that substantiates his characterization.
In fact, the 1996 amendment was passed by a GOP confess in response to a DC Cir court decision invalidating an INS reg that required Vietnamese living in Hon Kong to return to Vietnam in order to apply to immigrate, but allowed other nationalities living in Hong Kong to apply from Hong Kong. It did so on the basis that the reg treated Vietnamese in Hong Kong different from every other nationality living in Hong Kong, in violation of 1152(a)(1).
So in 1996 Congress amended 1152(a)(1), but adding the section saying the no discrimination provision does not apply to Sec of State decisions about how it carries out the application process.
No fair reading of the EO can call it a “ban”. It’s a suspension of the old procedures while new procedures are put in place.
It’s temporary and it does not ban a “whole region” of the world. Several countries that are majority Muslim and are contiguous neighbors of the 7 suspect countries do not fall under the EO.
Bier is a poseur who doesn’t understand what he’s writing about but his thesis fit the editorial POV of the NYT editorial staff.

Sh*T forgot to add TBT or Marty Watters. He has become the most irritating and ill-informed troll of all. One of Rahm's waste of the human mind.

I saw a PINK PUSSY HATTER with a sign saying "First they came for the Muslims...and..."
We aren't COMING for THE MUSLIMS.
The EO doesn't ban nor deport MUSLIMS.
It doesn't fill TRAINS, SHOWERS, OVENS nor DEATH CAMPS with anyone, nor specifically Muzlims. The EO, doesn't release SELF PROCLAIMED TERRORISTS from GITMO, nor does it trade U.S. Military private-deserters for TERRORIST Generals who have no claim to the Geneva Conventions.
We are dealing with THE FULL COMMIE American Leftists who are cuckoo for cocoa puffs and are funded by RICH ANARCHISTS.

Hello Frau my dear. You KNOW you have always been mine, and possibly Clarice's FAVORITE!!!!
Dana Gilbert Ward is easy to OUT.
I outed his pathetic skinny ass today.
But "truth be told" Haahhahhaahahahahaaaaaahaa pun INTENDED,
I don't care which and how many trolls are ACTUALLY .....Dana Gilbert Ward. They are ALL Dana Gilbert Ward. Seriously. I've had friends here, try to chide me that X troll "isn't actually Dana Gilbert Ward". Oh DEAR!! I'm so so sorry, I misjudged WHICH TROLL you actually are....!!!!! My point is. Dana Gilbert Ward is easy to spot and a clown, BUT, who cares is a TROLL has been (Heeehehehee) unfairly branded as WARD???
If one of our newbie trolls IS NOT ...Dana Gilbert Ward, I don't care.... I am TROLLING THE TROLL.
Dana Gilbert Ward outed himself today.
And I laughed my (redacted) off.

Frau!! You are on your game today.
The 70's gave us a BILLY "boom boom"AYERS, era, where we could not have ENEMIES to the STATE.
I mean everything goes. Free love, acid, bombings, BUT ONLY FOR DAMAGE TO BUILDINGS!!!!
Obama was raised in the GLORY HOLE MEMORY of the VIOLENCE of the late 60's and early 70s.
Opies, Grandparent SOUGHT OUT RED "head masters" for their RED DIAPER BABY....STANLEY ANN!!!! It was SOOOO COOOOOOL!!!!
Stanley Ann, hooked up with Frank Marshall Davis, and Barry Sr, a drunken philandering loser.
HOW COOOOOOL CAN IT GET!!!!!!
The MAN had kept XYZ down, and to quote MALCOLM the 10th. BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY!!!
Anarchy was to rule the day.
SOUND FAMILIAR?????
