Geeze daddy -- I thought we were going to make wine out of moose droppings!
I'm thinking that's in episode number 6 DrJ. The episode where you try to teach us how to make a house out of a Whale Carcass, and you have us stick geoduck slices into our noses to block the stench.
You're introduced in Episode, when after the team gets lost in the snowy wilderness, you try to lead us back to camp by figuring out the position of true north by watching as the dogs orient themselves with Earths magnetic Field as they poop: PBS NEWSHOUR: Dogs poop in alignment with Earth’s magnetic field, study finds

HAHA! I remember that discussion.
Episode 10 should be where the Inuit show up and tell the contestants that they have violated sacred native gounds and therefore must perform purification rituals (to be determined by someone more creative than me).
Bonus part would be the Inuit discussing this in their own language with subtitles where they mock the contestants..

Speaking of the North Woods,Gov.LePage sent a letter to President Trump asking him to reserve the EO that created the National Monument. He wants the land returned to private ownership. Lucas St.Clair ( the son of Burt's Bees co-owner Roxanne Quimby) said
he will fight LePage on the issue. Stay tuned.
By the way,if anyone wants to know the back story of Quimby and the "real" Burt, watch "Burt's Buzz" on Netflix.

From the dead thread...Squint was onto removing the restrictor to improve showers and mentioned the truth that after that the line pressure is key. Two things I found: in my MD house the water main has a pressure reducing device down in the basement by the main shutoff. Happily it is adjustable so that was easy to fix (so long as I was willing to replace washers in the faucets that started leaking at the higher pressure). The Nantucket house, being newer and located in that most regulated of all regulated do-gooder states has flow restriction and temp restrictions BOTH built into the shower valve unit itself. So a few weeks ago when I asked Beasts to send me his extra Speakman Shower Head, I should have asked him to include one of them southern boy unrestricted valves from the good old days too. Sadly, his ex got both.

After examining 70 dogs — made up of 37 breeds — over two years, 1,893 defecations and 5,582 urinations, researchers found that under “calm magnetic field conditions,” dogs preferred to “excrete with the body being aligned along the north-south axis,” avoiding east-west altogether.
The clincher in Episode 5 Miss M is that DrJ has to try to recall if the magnetic deviation between true north and Magnetic north is off by 17 degrees or whatever to the East or to the West. A council meeting is called for and the feather is passed as the cast members express their opinions, but first they have to find the proper type of feather so that's the theme from Episode 3---which feather is the right father to pass around to be able to talk, and where do we find it? All the Eagle Feathers normally used are gone, since the Endangered Bald eagles ate the dead rats poisoned by the National Wildlife Service trying to get rid of the Rats on Rat Island, and when the cast tried to get out to the island the Icebreaking 78 Million dollar Icebreaking Ferryboat (Episode 2) went dead in the water due to somebody not putting a lid on the smokestacks during winter.
This is easy:) Off to the gym. Keep brainstorming!

Geeze daddy -- I thought we were going to make wine out of moose droppings!
For those new JOMers who missed it, years back in India I read in the paper that there was some monkeys spotted eating coffee beans off some coffee plant and some peasant got the clever idea of pawing thru their excrement, digging out the beans, and brewing them as coffee. This became a valuable money making fad for a bit,---they even ran beans thru Civits.
Anyhow, shortly after, on a long walk Fru, Scout and I came upon a large Bear Poop loaded with blueberries. Winemaker DrJ and I came up with a scheme to turn these "Yogi-Berries into blueberry wine. That's episode 4 if we ever get around to it.

There was a discussion in the last thread about the discovery of 7 potentially habitable planets. I don't know if anyone saw this:
http://www.livescience.com/57927-new-zealand-part-of-eighth-continent.html
Amazing what science can do: If you are free to define a continent as potentially being almost entirely under water, then you get to have more continents.
In any case, it will be easier to send the progs to this new 8th continent, and more effective if it's to the underwater part.

Today my good friend (and boy is she a good friend) and I cleaned out the basement storage closet in the old house. I have 2 weeks to get everything out, so I am either throwing stuff away or sending it to the auction.
Unbeknownst to me, my husband had ordered all sorts of survival-type gear. I found brand new sleeping bags, brand-new cast iron cookware, 2 short wave radios in original boxes, etc.
This stuff must have been ordered and squirreled away while I was working back before he went overseas. Fortunately, the stuff appears in good shape so I should get some money for it at auction.
Anyway, I started MY wine at 5PM because I deserve it, and also because my joints are sore due to working on a concrete floor.

sbw,
I have a distinct memory of Maxine speaking to her voters n LA after the last big earthquake. She was trying to explain to them how to survive inan emergency.
They were all about how they could get their government checks and what to do since they couldn't buy diapers. She was trying to explain how to make a diaper out of a dish towel, but I doubt many of them understood, which was very sad.
Other than that, my experience with her is pretty much like this last episode.

Reporting from Skidaway Island, GA, where it's 62 degrees and softly raining. After surviving driving through Atlanta towing a 24' rv, while being buffeted by pressure waves from tractor trailers, the battery light came on near Macon and the engine immediately died. Fortunately, we were going slightly downhill and managed to coast several minutes until a widened off-ramp providentially appeared. The road shoulder was too narrow until that point to get off the interstate safely. The culprit turned out to be a failed "crank shaft sensor", a little part about the size of your thumb but, apparently, vital. All is well, and God is good.

Following on from an earlier post, here is LtGen H.R. McMaster at the VMI Center for Leadership and Ethics on 21 November 2016.
We hit the shuttlecock back and forth here regarding the US Military.
LT Gen McMaster discusses the framework, why the discussion should be framed in that manner, and where & what America specifically should focus upon.(25 minutes and 20 minutes Q&A)
In short, if you want to be able to discuss the US National Security Strategy coherently, who better to listen to and learn from than the next National Security Advisor discussing his thoughts about Security and Strategy?
This man has the CINC's ear, and will be with President Trump with greater frequency than either Gen Mattis or Gen Kelly.
Considering LtGen McMAster's proximity to the CINC, knowing what LtGen McMaster thinks is useful in having informed discussion.
MOST STRONGLY RECOMMENDED.

The Atlanta mayor, Kasim Reed, is embroiled in a scandal that could tarnish his future plans (but - he is a democrat so it could be a resume enhancement.)

And another Ga. democrat in the news has taken on the dog rescue community (which is a big mistake on her part!)
"Is it a war on dogs? Or dog owners? That is difficult to discern when considering recently filed House Bill 313.
Democrat lawmaker Keisher Waites has introduced legislation that would require every rescuer, rescue group and shelter to fear monger about dogs by telling people how many people have been bitten by dogs in the U.S., the total medical costs related to injuries caused by dogs in the United States, and the total amount of damages awarded to victims of dog bites or dog attacks in the United States when adopting a dog.

Rocco,
Same thing is done with aircraft to create a deviation card that is typically mounted next to the magnetic compass.
Posted by: Buckeye | February 22, 2017 at 07:33 PM
Important not to get magnetic variation and deviation confused. Variation is what daddy described. Depending where you are on earth, magnetic north and true north can be different.
Magnetic deviation is created by the uniqueness of the local conditions around the compass. Usually caused by metal in the watercraft or aircraft, but sometimes other local chunks of metal.
A magnetic compass is pretty useless when you are standing by a railroad track. Ask me how I know:)

Jim Demint on Lou Dobbs has this to say about the glacial effort to repair and replace ObamaCare:
Demint: Speaker Ryan is trying to include some elements that will improve the Health care system and make it work better, along with the Repeal. That's a wonderful motive, but in this political environment when they have no support from Democrats they need to start the process, because Lou, all these protests about not repealing Obamacare would be null and void if the House and Senate had passed the first step in repeal. Now all the arguments would be "How do we make our HealthCare system better?" They made a huge tactical mistake by not moving quickly.

Lou says he and Ed Rollins agree.

Being the nautical geek that I am, I had one next to my compass too. I also made an RPM table by running a measured mile in both directions every 250 RPM's. Looks like the Project Veritas stuff on CNN is not hidden cameras, but leaks from people within CNN.
My guess is technical people like cameramen, sound guys, and make-up. I have no doubt that these people are treated like crap by the on-camera hot shots, who despise the Dirt People.
The leakers are Deplorables. They no doubt voted for Trump.
I am SO looking forward to this!

I couldn't really tell the perspective in that clip, daddy, until I saw the shadow from Ford's plane cross the fuselage of the jet. Dang.

How would anyone want to be chronicled about what they were doing in 1990. Show of hands? Anyone?
Thought so.
