Allahpundit puzzles over the Reuters account of a raid in Yemen that was botched by Trump because he didn't... what?
The grim Reuters allegation is this:
U.S. military officials told Reuters that Trump approved his first covert counterterrorism operation without sufficient intelligence, ground support or adequate backup preparations.
As a result, three officials said, the attacking SEAL team found itself dropping onto a reinforced al Qaeda base defended by landmines, snipers, and a larger than expected contingent of heavily armed Islamist extremists.
So now Trump is expected to weigh in on the appropriate level of ground support?!? And maybe eyeball some satellite photos? As Allahpundit notes. General Mattis, now SecDef, has some experience here. Gen. Dunford, Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and National Security Advisor Flynn, formerly a Lt. General who oversaw raids like this for a living, were also in the final meeting. Please.
IMHO the Commander in Chief approves these missions, or rejects them, based on the possible rewards and any risks associated with the country in question (Yemen, here), other allies, and US and world opinion. If the Defense Department submitted a half-baked plan after months of effort, well, that's on them. More reasonably, these are dangerous missions and sometimes things happen. E.g., the last known raid in Yemen, Dec 2014, failed to rescue the targeted hostages:
2 Hostages Killed in Yemen as U.S. Rescue Effort Fails
Or in Syria, Oct 2015:
US special forces soldier is killed in Isis hostage rescue mission in Iraq
Almost done. Back to AllahP:
What’s missing from any of the reporting is the suggestion that Defense warned the Trump White House that they weren’t ready to roll but the White House demanded action anyway. Until that evidence is produced, why should we assume that Trump is the negligent party?
OK, into the Bonus Round for outrageous reporting. Here is the Guardian, picked up by The Week:
Saturday's Navy SEAL raid in Yemen — which resulted in the death of an 8-year-old American girl and a U.S. naval officer — had previously been rejected by former President Barack Obama, The Guardian reports. President Trump approved of the raid in his first military strike as commander-in-chief:
[Colonel John] Thomas said he did not know why the prior administration did not authorize the operation, but said the Obama administration had effectively exercised a "pocket veto" over it.
A former official said the operation had been reviewed several times, but the underlying intelligence was not judged strong enough to justify the risks, and the case was left to the incoming Trump administration to make its own judgment. [The Guardian]
Oh, brother. CNN addresses the veto claim specifically:
Those lone wolves coincidentally from some of the countries on that list, were pack animals

Very sad day ahead of me.
A good friend's twenty-three year old son committed suicide a week ago. Funeral is this afternoon.
What can you say to them?
Posted by: Buckeye | February 04, 2017 at 12:14 PM
Buckeye,
My condolences. We too are suffering a loss.
One of our friend's daughter went to JFK to pick up her friend from Germany and on their way home, on our Hill St. [speed limit in the village=25mph] were struck head on by a local kid in his Lexus SUV who was travelling a very high rate of speed going west, grossing double yellow line and hit them head on. Tore their car apart at the door and broke the seat belt lock. Through our friends' kid 40 feet into the air, landing in another friend's yard.
The young lady from Germany is 20 y.o. and brain dead in Stony Brook hospital. Doc waiting for parents to come over from Germany before pulling the plug. So, is our local police department waiting to file the appropriate charges of vehiclular manslaughter. No drugs or alcohol involved, just absolute stupidity. The reckless driver is a local guy of 27. Our friend's daughter 26 and married with child.
Hill St. is the main E/W road leading into the village. Beautiful old victorian and cedar shake houses and huge oak and maple trees. Very bucolic but getting busy in the morning and afternoon for the "trade parade". What this guy was thinking unknown.
Posted by: Jim Eagle | February 04, 2017 at 12:35 PM
Should add that they were all airlifted to Stony Brook and our friend's daughter has broke arm, ruptured spleen, some broken ribs but nothing life threatening.
No idea how the idiot is doing.

Understood. Mrs. JiB w/ Frederick had to make a similar trip in 2008 to Belgium when her Mother was in a comatose state and they delayed the finish until she arrived. Having Frederick along gave her something to do and ease the stress.

It was on teachers as revolutionaries and the need for teachers to teach students not based on the world that exists. Rather teachers should teach students so they will feel compelled to create a new vision of what might be.
===============
At home on TV and on the AM radio headsets I hear this Public Service ad 20 times a day: I'm a Teacher I Make More.
I'm sick of listening to it. Paints an image of them all as wonderful individuals who can never do wrong and cannot be criticized. It's propaganda designed to create an impression of teachers as morally superior. Just get in there and teach and shut the hell up. The ad's probably paid for by the Ad Counsel whoever they are, but if its Taxpayer money involved lets slash it to the bone.
I like good teachers and I dislike bad teachers and enough of this Social Justice Warrior crap. Probably well over 50% of the humanities faculty at our Universities are anti-American Leftists who want to tear up the Constitution and burn the country down. Prager on his Thursday Show said that Pepperdine University has decided to remove their campus statue of Christopher Columbus, but then has hired Conway West to deliver the keynote address about Black Lives Matter to cap off their Black History Festivities. The rioter at Berkeley who sucker punched that Milo supporter was probably a teacher as well. He didn't eff'in "Make More," he "Destroyed More."
If former students or parents want to praise Teachers, great. Otherwise just do your jobs and shut up. I think we could save a mint by slashing Public Service ads that are nothing but propaganda memes.

That we are so unserious as to have guys like Jamal and his brothers basically working unsupervised in our Intel areas unsupervised brought to mind this old mystery: Missing Laptop Had Secret Arms Data
April 22, 2000|From the Washington Post
WASHINGTON — The laptop computer missing from the State Department contained thousands of classified documents about arms proliferation issues, including highly sensitive information about the sources and methods of U.S. intelligence collection, State Department officials said Friday.
The State Department still has not found the computer, which vanished in January from a conference room, according to a senior State Department official. Its disappearance was reported to the department's Bureau of Diplomatic Security in early February, according to another official.
...Madeleine Albright is "furious" about the security lapse...
If we're so dicked up as to hire 20 year olds like Jamal to roam the Intel Conference Rooms, no wonder Top Secret Computers go missing under everybody's noses.

As officials around the world have faced a confusing barrage of attacks dedicated to the Islamic State, cases like Mr. Yazdani’s offer troubling examples of what counterterrorism experts are calling enabled or remote-controlled attacks: violence conceived and guided by operatives in areas controlled by the Islamic State whose only connection to the would-be attacker is the internet.

He is the grandson of the late Julia Carson, also known as the Embarrassment of Indiana, who used to fall asleep in hearings. She got elected because she was a township trustee who handed out relief checks (separate from welfare)and when she retired, she recommended her grandson for the seat, which of course he won, since the congressional district also contains most of te black population of Indianapolis.

From MySanAntonio:
A San Antonio man who was freed from life in prison by President Barack Obama is back behind bars after allegedly crashing his vehicle into another motorist and undercover police cars while fleeing from a drug deal Thursday.
Robert M. Gill, 68, whose life sentence for cocaine and heroin distribution conspiracy was commuted by Obama and expired in 2015, was profiled last year in the Express-News about his readjustment to life on the outside.
Obama wrote in a signed notification that he granted Gill’s application
“because you have demonstrated the potential to turn your life around. … Now it is up to you to make the most of this opportunity.”

Clarice! They are shameless and will pocket it all.

Janet, I had forgotten about Carson being involved in that CBC lying episode.
Gosh, that was 7 years ago!Breitbart was still alive then, because he offered a reward.
I wish they would redistrict this area so we could have a different Congressman. It's like having zero representation if you aren't black.
Bah.

Here is my new foster that arrived last night. She is sweet and shy!
Her name is Kate but she will soon have lots of nicknames.

Buckeye ad JiB--what sad news. I am so sorry.

My Black Rifle coffee came today, too, Momto2. Haven't had a chance to try it yet.
Kate is a dear!

Momto2,
Looks like Kate has a little beagle in her (not pun attended). I have 3 and recognize the snout, ears and coloring. She is going to be a sweetie if so. No one loves and is loyal like a beagle. Will eat you out of house and home but outside of that life is better with them than without.

Clarice,
I went to one once in the Capital Hilton when Bush 41 was in. Terrible waste of alcohol. It was 1990 and Jim Morris' impersonation of Bush 41. He should have stuck with Reagan.
No after dinner party for me. Had to catch an early flight. But the crowd was everyone who thought they were everything.

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump 1h1 hour ago
What is our country coming to when a judge can halt a Homeland Security travel ban and anyone, even with bad intentions, can come into U.S.?
Donald J. Trump Verified account
@realDonaldTrump
Because the ban was lifted by a judge, many very bad and dangerous people may be pouring into our country. A terrible decision

Momto2...Katie is adorable! Resembles our chihuahua-doxie-rotweiler "Anya". Resembles. Anya has a narrower snout and shorter perkier ears.
Much happiness ahead!

Botox...it's not just for breakfast anymore.

And why can't our President of all the people talk like all the people. Isn;t what he tweeted, the kind of language and rhetoric ordinary, middle class or even successful upper middle class people use everyday?
Are the media telling me they don't talk like that?
BS. And they know it.

Watching Euro TV channels the last few days, and especially having just watched a DW (German) News segment on "Anti-Trump" Philippine protesters in the streets, it strikes me that the American Left’s assaults against Trump are welcomed by the World because it allows the World to wholeheartedly and unashamedly engage in Hate America bashing. Unlike previous times where supposedly "politics ended at the waters edge" and supposedly we stood united as Americans ready to hand out consequences for such Anti-American actions, our domestic Left's Anti-Trump hatred is enabling and fomenting Hate America movements across the globe, and also, in my opinion, it is telling them they will suffer no consequences for such anti American behavior since the Left has blessed their outrage as justified. My guess is our Left is welcoming it, under the old saw of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" and I think they are betting everything on destroying Trump and the Repubs by any means possible.
I do recall there were protests in Obama's time, but if they were against Obama (i.e.) Iran's "Death To America," the Press would entirely downplay that as normal activity by the Iranians and try to protect Obama from having caused it. In Benghazi, "The Video caused it Move along citizens." And in the case of the BLM protests such as Ferguson, which he tacitly condoned, the media let him off the hook by pretending Obama had no responsibility in the matter even when he said "If I had a son he'd look like Treyvon." Instead the Media was quick to lockstep join up in whatever # campaign du jour cropped up to pretend action was being taken, #HandsUpDon'tShoot!" etc. And back during the Egyptian protests against Mubarak, I even recall Anderson Cooper trying to get protesters in the Egyptian Square to give Obama credit for starting the anti-Mubarak protests.
So I had not thought much about it, but it crystallized for me after watching DW TV’s sort of giddy approval of Philippino’s marching against Trump for his immigration EO. It showed me how satisfied the German Media are to report such protests. They weren't hand wringing. Instead they were almost hand clapping. I get very much the same sense on all the News broadcasts over here---French 24, BBC, DW, obviously CNN, etc. Just an observation.

daddy,
Those countries and their media are whores to political satisfaction. When they get attacked, they will expect Trump and his administration to come to their rescue.

daddy, like today's police, they hate us until they need us.

ust think, a few months ago, the progs chanted "We are all Charlie." Today it's "We are all Muslim." Are they that unconscious? The social media dog whistle is blown and off they storm.
JiB so sorry to hear about the young woman who will pay with her life for the recklessness of another. I cannot think of an appropriate punishment.

You're exactly right, daddy. I think truth will eventually trump illusion with Germany providing the object lesson.

Great point, Frau, great point!

Kate is primarily a Black & Tan Coonhound with maybe a few stray genes thrown in. She is bigger than a beagle - about 50 lbs. I agree that hounds love you fiercely.
First vet visit on Monday and I'm praying she is HW negative. She was afraid to walk on my hardwood floors and that usually means they've only lived outside. They are more likely to be exposed to mosquitoes and rarely would such an "owner" invest in HW preventative.

I seriously doubt that President Trump is operating out of a "bunker" mentality.
As for Twitter, I don't have preconceived ideas for this presidency so I'm not insistent that President Trump "behave" like the other cadavers who have death-marched their way through two terms in office going back to Clintoona.
POTUS Reagan's use of the hot mic to poke fun of the Soviets about the "bombing begins in 5 minutes" was genius.
POTUS Trump tweeting his mind has a similar ring to it.
Not saying the two are the same. The wry sideways look at the punks who would destroy them (from their own teams and the enemy) are very similar in spirit.
I had an uncle with six very nasty little kids when I was growing up. He never called them brats or cursed at them. But Uncle Fatty definitely had the rest of his extended family sold on the idea that the kids were brats.
He never missed the opportunity on poker nights (four nights a week at Grampa Aaron's house) to reinforce the notion without raising his voice or complaining.
As soon as he'd sit down at the poker table, all six of the lil bastardos would mob him screaming for ice cream (poker started at 6pm and that was when the ice cream truck would maraud the neighborhood).
His response: reach into his pocket for a fistful of change, then toss it across the room. And away they'd go.
No thank yooz or i love yooz....just bloody hand-to-hand combat winners take all pre-ice cream truck rumbling in the living room for all to see.
Fatty would then clean everybody out at poker.
POTUS tweets are like a handful of change tossed for the rats to fight over.
Meanwhile, there are millions observing the histrionics and hysterics of these refined journos and intellectuals (Lil Bobby Reich et al) acting like rats.
No preaching.
Just let the people see all the assholes and elbows flying over *the truth*.
Having said this, I wouldn't want my JOMerz to think that I am 100 per cent in the tank over POTUS. I respect him
But--- he works for me. So I must supervise by observing him from afar. My job is to supervise him up or out. Nothing more. Nothing less. Same goes for the rest of the rational electorate.
To that end I've been appreciative of the critical thinking coming from two very outspoken intellects on talk radio.
This week I've been listening to Dr. Savage be hypercritical of POTUS' choices of Bannon and Conway being so much a part of the inner circle.
In turn, Mark Levin has been very critical of the inner circle's dearth of historical knowledge re populism and conservatism, shortfalls in ability to understand the difference between socialist initiatives and initiatives that have constitutional integrity.
Note: these are not backhanded critiques of El Rushbo, Hannity or the rest. Dr. Savage and I go way back to his first broadcast. Mark Levin was a name I heard about when Reagan was in office. They have a different approach to Rush and Sean. So I am mentioning these two critical voices specifically.
A lot of food for thought and a healthy dose of skepticism are essential for me at this stage of the game.
I've been part of movements where no criticism was ever tolerated out of fear of strengthening the oppo.
There is no need for that here at this stage of the game.
We don't know enough, I don't know enough about what lays ahead--- hiding in plain sight or in deep cover.
We're out here on point. So I'm not going to assume everything is going to work out because "central command knows best."
Survival is tops on my list. And I do not want to be had. Still, I have to "trust the process."
Not everyone will agree over Twitter strategy or choices of who gets to be the face of the Administration.
One thing is certain. President Donald Trump has lit the Left's collective ass on fire while they are lighting fires on college campuses and elsewhere.
Their doom is imminent. President Trump continues to ascend despite the geological pace of DC dhimmitude.

Re: the congressional IT staffer madness
THAT would be a good subject for a Trump speech:
"THIS is what's wrong with government, and with the people who have been running Washington and our country into the ground for decades!
They hire crooks, and pay them with YOUR money, and give them access to our most important secrets, and then guess what? The crooks act like crooks and steal our secrets and sell them to God only knows who! So our country is unsafe, and YOUR money is in the hands of crooks, and the people who hired the crooks - the experts and geniuses and so-called public servants - go right on hiring more crooks and idiots and they act like they didn't do anything wrong!
Well, that's going to stop right now!"

Momto2,
Didn't know her size. All hounds in close ups look alike to me. She is a good soul and you can tell. Most likely, like you said, kept in kennel outside and never let in. Strictly for hunting and sadly, if not performing, abuse.
Wish you the best with her.
