"Connecticut State Sen. Ted Kennedy Jr. (D-Branford) — son of former U.S. Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.) — wants to give state government control over what happens to citizens’ organs after they die. Kennedy recently introduced SB 750, which would automatically enroll Connecticut’s citizens in the organ donation program."
Had Ingraham on for four seconds this morning and she was already screeching about "who is advising the White House on their media appearances??1!!" schtick.
"Connecticut State Sen. Ted Kennedy Jr. (D-Branford) — son of former U.S. Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.) — wants to give state government control over what happens to citizens’ organs after they die.
So if they dragged Mary Jo Kopechne's carcass out of the pond today the State would get first dibs on her cadaver instead of her parents?
Makes sense in a Kennedy-esque fashion.
I recall when visiting Salem a few years back that after the executions all of the Witches bodies were kept from their families by the authorities and dumped into secret un-Christian burial pits. Only my Great great granny's body was ever buried proper. Her kinfolk found out where they had dumped her and dug her up at midnight, and then gave her a proper burial on her home property which I was able to visit.
How did we ever get along in this country without the benefit of the Kennedy's?

On the history of medicine discussion, I thought my one-sentence summary in the last thread might have provoked a response: Until the last 100 years or so, doctors were as likely to kill you as heal you.
Maybe it's a bit more than 100 years, but I know that at least two of our presidents had their deaths hastened by doctors: George Washington was pretty much bled to death, and after Garfield was shot (only 135 years ago), doctors repeatedly stuck stuck their fingers into the wound to probe for the bullet, likely leading to an infection. (Harrison was probably harmed by his doctors, though it seems more likely that he died of septic shock from the White House water supply.)
I think DC is supposed to get more rain than snow, not so bad. They're still saying 12-20" in NYC. Last time it ended up being less than predicted, but we'll see. Mayor Bane will no doubt try to exploit the situation, but botch it completely anyway.

I still think there is a 50/50 chance medicine can cure you or kill you.
For anonamom's sake, I'll give it 60-40 in favor of saving vs killing. :)
Seriously, I think the last 30 years have made a huge difference. In fact one of the reasons the murder rate has dropped so much, or so I've heard, is that the rate of shootings hasn't dropped nearly as much, but a lot more of the victims survive. Heart attack victims also do much better now than 30+ years ago.
Also, my impression is that childhood cancer survival has improved tremendously, which is obviously a huge deal in terms of years of life.
Are public school children still making trips to DC each Spring? Would love visuals of the Smithsonian, Jefferson Memorial, etc. closed down as Pelosi and Schumer et al preen.
This time when they shut it down, Trump should find emergency funds (maybe Obama's slush fund) to keep the DC parks and memorials open for the Veterans, serving military and first responders, etc. Earn some positive public relations out of it.
I still say how Obama handled the last one cost the Dems lots of votes, statehouses and more seats in Congress.
"The Democratic presidential nominee has never tried to hide the fact he delivers speeches off the device, though normally he doesn't use one at standard campaign rallies and town hall events. ... But the Illinois senator used a teleprompter at both his Colorado events Monday - making for a particularly peculiar scene in Pueblo, where the prompter was set up in the middle of what is normally a rodeo ring."
When Congress decides to restart the Federal Government, the POTUS will not sign the enabling legislation unless it includes approval of all appointments pending before the Senate.
Doctors are still killing people jimmyk--prescribing statins to treat numbers in patients without coronary disease, sending diabetics to nutritionists who tell them to eat grains, aggressively treating old people's blood pressures so they fall and bled in to their craniums--
all with the very best of intentions though.
Or because they have to comply with insurance requirements, which are twenty years behind current preliminary studies.
anonamom, when my previous doctor retired, he passed me on to a young guy who started telling me to eat a low-fat diet with whole grains. I dropped him and found a doctor who subscribes to a more 'paleo' approach. I won't shut down JOM again by repeating my tale of success :).
I'm curious about your last point: aggressively treating old people's blood pressures so they fall and bled in to their craniums
Is that from prescribing blood thinners? I'm about to talk to my 95-year-old father's cardiologist, and the one question is whether to continue with Eliquis, in his case for Afib, trying to balance the risks between bleeding and stroke. Not that you can give advice, obviously, but it sounds like you think thinners are over-prescribed. Or maybe just for high BP?
We do have incredible trauma medicine, as the survivors of the Boston Marathon Bombing are a testament to.
Nowhere else would they all but the three who were dead on the scene have survived though--five (?six?) hospitals within three miles of the blast, roads emptied of traffic because of the race, and the bombing site itself crawling with medical personnel.
Strong cancer treatment, looking at big breakthroughs soon with immune and molecular level treatments, positive outcomes with very premature births. High risk OB too.
Has anyone dug behind the headline of falling US Life Spans to see what if any impact there is on the influx of X millions from south of the border? Surely that has an impact?
I run hot and cold on Ingraham. When she's right about an issue, like immigration, she will bludgeon opponents into submission. Plus she provided a forum for Tammy Bruce. When she's bad...well she dated Bathtub Boy. Plus I think she's one of the more mercenary talk show hosts.
The ewok weighs in on The Lonesome Death of Saint Swisher:
Documentary Purports to Challenge the Established Facts About Michel Brown's Death
This "documentary," reported on by John Sexton, changes nothing.
First up, the documentary is given the hucksterish hysterical name of "Stranger Fruit." This is of course a reference to the song "Strange Fruit," about lynchings. The main lyric goes that trees in the south bear a strange fruit -- the bodies of black men hanged by the neck.
That's terrible. That's incendiary racial provocateurism. That's agitating for violence.
Which they got-- there was in fact renewed violence and unrest after the release of this "documentary."
The clip they're promoting shows, they claim, Michael Brown buying the cigarillos at an earlier stop by that bodega where he later strong-armed the owner. They're claiming he already paid for those cigarillos, but apparently didn't take them the first time. For whatever reason.
They say this casts a new light on his later visit to the joint, when he took the cigarellos, exited without paying, and then strong-armed the owner when the owner tried to stop him from leaving without paying.
The New York Times apparently buys into this fully-- but strangely its account does not mention the inconvenient fact that Michael Brown attacked Officer Wilson and grabbed his gun.
Is there new video that disputes that? Apparently not! But the racewar agitators have a very ambiguous video and some cockadoodle Loose Change-style conspiracy theories so I guess it's time to burn and loot in Ferguson again.
Even if the "documentary's" claim is right -- that Michael Brown paid for the cigarillos with pot -- 1, how does that buttress the character of Michael Brown, and 2, how does being a penny-ante drug dealer who got rough with a customer change the fact he attacked and tried to kill a cop?
America is so racist that a black man can't even transact a drug crime, walk down the middle of the street impeding traffic, refuse a white officer's lawful order to clear the street, then physically attack that white officer and attempt to wrestle his gun away from him in order to execute him without being arrested and then shot when he resists arrest.
Have we learned nothing?
Sexton notes this quote from the New York Times' "report:"
Regardless of what happened at the store in the early-morning hours, the new security footage does not resolve long-simmering questions about Mr. Brown's encounter with Officer Darren Wilson along a Ferguson street that day.
Sexton wants to know in which questions still need resolving, and why Eric Holder's report did not put to rest these "long-simmering questions."
Is the New York Times saying that Eric Holder lied? Are they Michael Brown Truthers?
Do they disbelieve all government reports, or only those prepared and published by a black man?
I have some "long simmering questions" about the whitebread New York Times myself.
The illegal border jumpers are impacting public health, no doubt.
But there's also this kinda stuff involved,
from my horseshoes and hand grenades, drive-by research knowledge file---
We're in for a cliffdrop on life expectancy... 30 million Type 2 diabetics, and another 50 million estimated *undiagnosed*... lotta lotta Boomers with undiagnosed Type 2.
Then there is the 1000 Americans per day experiencing onset of Alzheimer's. 6th leading cause of death--- and it's escalating... my business partner is 51.... goin down the rabbit hole with "Type 3 diabetes."
Death certificates are issued with a primary cause, say stroke---- but this can be from a number of root causes..... Type 2 diabetics die from stroke, but it is seldom listed as such. With disease rates for T2 being what they are, we'll be seeing more than an uptick.
There is a huge pig in the python affecting Boomers especially. "Early death."
Silent pandemics aren't getting the "gay martyrdom" treatment from CDC like HIV/AIDS did under Clinton, Bush, and The Bath House Rat, so the public is largely uninformed as to how bad the diabetes rates are---- and what it means for disability and pre-mature death.
I know of two people who died because overly aggressive chemo treatments.
I also worry about blood thinners for a relative of mine.
I am currently not taking any kind of medicine. Hope I never have to but if so I will do so with caution.
Has DeStalino ordered the subways to shut down again?

Jimmy, the best thing possible is for Trump to let them shut it down, particularly over an election issue like the wall.

September 2008, when CNN still delivered real news like BOzo's dependence on TOTUS:
"The Democratic presidential nominee has never tried to hide the fact he delivers speeches off the device, though normally he doesn't use one at standard campaign rallies and town hall events. ... But the Illinois senator used a teleprompter at both his Colorado events Monday - making for a particularly peculiar scene in Pueblo, where the prompter was set up in the middle of what is normally a rodeo ring."

Posted by: anonamom | March 13, 2017 at 02:14 PM
Actually it is fun to anticipate a shutdown when the president is the only guy in the room who has had to navigate companies through bankruptcy.

all with the very best of intentions though.
anonamom, when my previous doctor retired, he passed me on to a young guy who started telling me to eat a low-fat diet with whole grains. I dropped him and found a doctor who subscribes to a more 'paleo' approach. I won't shut down JOM again by repeating my tale of success :).
I'm curious about your last point:
aggressively treating old people's blood pressures so they fall and bled in to their craniums

Have lost 18 pounds in last month avoiding carbs.

"behind the headline of falling US Life Spans "
Posted by: Account Deleted | March 13, 2017 at 03:19 PM
I know of two people who died because overly aggressive chemo treatments.
I also worry about blood thinners for a relative of mine.
I am currently not taking any kind of medicine. Hope I never have to but if so I will do so with caution.
