Jeff Sessions has recused himself from investigating the Russian ties to the Trump campaign.
A helpful WaPo timeline is here. The second in command, Dana Boente (who was Acting AG after Ms. Yates was fired) is presumably in charge of deciding whether to appoint a Special Counsel.
It's an amusing detail but let me highlight this solid shoe-leather reporting by the Lichtblau, Shear and Savage of the failing NY Times:
Senator Claire McCaskill, Democrat of Missouri, cast doubt on Mr. Sessions’s explanation that he had met with the Russian ambassador because of his duties as a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, saying that was beyond the panel’s jurisdiction.
“I’ve been on the Armed Services Com for 10 years,” she wrote on Twitter on Thursday. “No call or meeting w/Russian ambassador. Ever. Ambassadors call members of Foreign Rel Com.”
Yeah, that's what she wrote. Sadly, some of her earlier Tweets told a different story, as discerned by Charles CW Cooke of NRO. Glenn Kessler of the WaPo has more, so the day may come when the Times corrects this.
GOPe still alive in the time of Trump. Even Sessions has got the weak backbone disease.

Captain,
The Qutb Minar Mosque complex
From Wiki: The Qutb Minar is the tallest brick minaret in the world, inspired by the Minaret of Jam in Afghanistan, it is an important example of early Afghan architecture, which later evolved into Indo-Islamic Architecture....
Built as a Victory Tower, to celebrate the victory of Mohammed Ghori over the Rajput king, Prithviraj Chauhan, in 1192 AD, by his then viceroy, Qutbuddin Aibak, later the first Sultan of Mamluk dynasty. Its construction also marked the beginning of Muslim rule in India. Even today the Qutb remains one of the most important "Towers of Victory" in the Islamic world....
According to a Persian inscription still on the inner eastern gateway, the mosque was built by the parts taken by destruction of twenty-seven Hindu and Jain temples built previously during Tomars and Prithvi Raj Chauhan, and leaving certain parts of the temple outside the mosque proper.[26] Historical records compiled by Muslim historian Maulana Hakim Saiyid Abdul Hai attest to the iconoclasm of Qutb-ud-din Aibak. This pattern of iconoclasm was common during his reign, although an argument goes that such iconoclasm was motivated more by politics than by religion.[27]
However, many historians were unanimous regarding the fact that Qutb ud-Din Aibaq like many other Muslim rulers, had a pathological bigotry and distaste towards henotheistic values, and intolerance on cultures considered anathema in Islamic dogma, which had impelled him to vandalise those historic monuments.
The brochure I have from visiting the place a few years back says it is "The oldest surviving example of Islamic architecture in the subcontinent is also the first mosque ever built in India...Qutb-ud-din Aibakconstructed this mosque from the remains of plundered temples...the mosque is lined up with rows of pillars adorned with Hindu motifs..."
The tour guide we had a few years back said over 300 demolished temples had been used for building materials for it.
Here's an example of some of the probably hundreds of Hindu Pillars used in building the Mosque: The caption reads: "COLUMNS AT QUTUB MINAR, MY FAVORITE SITE IN DELHI. THEY ARE COLUMNS FROM AN ANCIENT HINDU TEMPLE, DESTROYED AND REUSED TO BUILD A MOSQUE BY INVADERS FROM AFGHANISTAN A THOUSAND YEARS AGO. SOME OF THE FIGURES, BREASTED WOMEN AND NURSING FAUNA, ARE DEFACED BY THE INVADERS, WHO SMASHED THEM BEFORE COVERING THE COLUMNS IN PLASTER."
And this pic is a good close up example of the faces of the Hindu sculptures of the pillars having been beaten off.
It's worth a visit your next trip.

Captain,
Have a good walk. For some reason the destroyed Hindu images of that Mosque really impacted me and stuck with me. I recall that the first time I ever heard of the Taliban was when they blew up the enormous ancient Buddha carved into the Afghan cliffside, and I couldn't understand how people could still be so nuts in this day and age to do such a terrible thing to the marvels of antiquity. Sadly, what with ISIS's demolition of Palmyra and various sites near Nineveh, it's now almost an everyday occurrence by these brutal monsters. And as expected, a great many of the statues and reliefs in the Museum that I saw yesterday had had bits and pieces of their faces pounded to dust:(

There is a history of iconoclasm in Islam that goes back to Temple Mount and even the Ka'aba.
Way back in the days of Ghenghiz Khan they built towers from the skulls of their enemies. Then his grandkiddies killed every soul in Baghdad and destroyed the city completely before threatening Egypt.
Then came good ole Tamerlane who continued the now tradition of skull towers and mass slaughter.
Tamerlane is still revered as the apostle of Islam in Central Asia. Sort of gives some context to the Taliban and the history of extreme violence in the region.

In London I enjoy doing the various walks where you meet a Tour Guide at some designated location, usually at a fountain or statue or Metro exit, pay him 10 Pounds or so, and then he gives a guided walking tour of about 2 hours duration, usually with a crowd of 10 or so other tourists. I use the brochure provided by an outfit called London Walks, and have always had good luck with them and the guides are fun and very knowledgeable.
At my link just click on a walk that looks interesting and it explains what you'll see, who'll be the guide, etc. Here for instance is the walk for Westminster Abbey.

Posted by: Captain Hate | March 02, 2017 at 07:58 PM
My last word on this.
The Republican party controls Washington now. The narrative, the agenda, the conversation, the politics. Period. The Dems are nothing except to use certain archaic rules of the Senate. They have the media but poiitcally they have zilch.
Yet, the Dems are directing anc controlling the conversation. First, it was Flynn and before that, Russia, Russia, Russia and now its Sessions. All the work Trump and his minimalist cabinet (thanks to the GOP lite contingent led my McConnell) is for little more than faint accomplishment. Look at the stock market today. All because of the Sessions kerfuffle because the traders don't like to see weakness after very strong talk on taxes and ObamaCare.
You can't deal with a minor issue promoted by a minority party then how are you going to deal with major legislation. Its a typical DC power concern. You show weakness (and Trump's administration is playing to the Dems game plan) you lose investor confidence and voter angst.
Its on both sides of the aisle and in DC power and information are king. Right now, Trump is under threat and if he allows this to continue without a big time response then he is going to find it hard dealing. Shcumer and Pelosi are wounded losers but are now controlling the conversaton big time with no push back from the GOP congress or Trump.
Time to put this to rest and promptly but it may be to late by now.
Posted by: Jim Eagle | March 02, 2017 at 07:59 PM

Porchlight, I truly hope and pray you are correct.
I believe they have a plan. I have faith they've anticipated much of this. It could be the opposition is operating from desperation and the better action is to continue with the methodical advance, however slow it seems, because they can't stop this train . . . and it will only continue to pick up speed.
I'm not sure if TK and JiB are arguing with each other or why, but I think I agree with both. Faster, please, public servants in the Senate. Faster, please. The man needs his Cavalry and you *will* be punished if you deny him his troops.

Beasts,
Agree with you. what is being discussed is optics and pushback.
I don't know what the right strategy is, and I don't know what's going on in the White House.
I fully expect attacks on Ben Carson, because that is how evil these people are.
So, I am waiting to see what happens.

RG, I'm sure they're frustrated. But they didn't come all this way to back down in the face of total stupidity.
Who's smarter, Trump or Paul Ryan? Who's smarter, Sessions or Mitch McConnell?
