Jeff Sessions has recused himself from investigating the Russian ties to the Trump campaign.
A helpful WaPo timeline is here. The second in command, Dana Boente (who was Acting AG after Ms. Yates was fired) is presumably in charge of deciding whether to appoint a Special Counsel.
It's an amusing detail but let me highlight this solid shoe-leather reporting by the Lichtblau, Shear and Savage of the failing NY Times:
Senator Claire McCaskill, Democrat of Missouri, cast doubt on Mr. Sessions’s explanation that he had met with the Russian ambassador because of his duties as a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, saying that was beyond the panel’s jurisdiction.
“I’ve been on the Armed Services Com for 10 years,” she wrote on Twitter on Thursday. “No call or meeting w/Russian ambassador. Ever. Ambassadors call members of Foreign Rel Com.”
Yeah, that's what she wrote. Sadly, some of her earlier Tweets told a different story, as discerned by Charles CW Cooke of NRO. Glenn Kessler of the WaPo has more, so the day may come when the Times corrects this.
Boo hoo, Mika unhappy. Seems she doesn't like Trump.
That is just for show. Meeka loooves Trump.

anecdotal story...
My daughter was at a party on Friday & said an anti-Trump guy was ranting & going on & on.
Most at the party weren't into politics & just wanted the guy to shut up.
Anyway...finally it was the non-political, self described libertarian crew (that just want pot legalized) that finally shut the anti-Trump guy down. She said they all defended Trump.
She's a Trump supporter but she didn't engage.

Question for JOM: does the Sessions recusal apply to Obama admin activities during the transition, or to activities post-inauguration by Obama appointees still in place?

" 'I wonder why we haven't found a dozen or so underlings and arrested them yet.'
I don't think Trump wants to do that; I think his recent tweets were a shot across the bow to stop trying to interfere with me."
Trump is not a 'I'm Repub-you are Democrat' or 'I'm conservative - you are liberal' type of guy. He thinks he can work with ANYONE on an even basis.
But these Dems are serpents. Trump is going to have to get over that reluctance to put those people in jail. This is a deadly serious game for the statists.

Yesterday I got a call from a mutual "friend" (business client) of ManTran and I.
He has been retired for a couple of years and we spent the first 10 minutes discussing the finer points of his new nomadic RV lifestyle.
Then he started into a one of his predictable anti-right/pro-left diatribes, including the "story" about Wilbur Ross and a Deutsche Bank guy being in cahoots with the Russian oligarchs.
The next thing that came out of his mouth was that he was beginning to notice that he was pissing people off. He didn't get included in any family Christmas action, and ManTran was giving him the cold shoulder.
It was all I could do to stifle my first thought..."maybe everybody is tired of you being an asshole"...but I managed to end the call on a polite note.
Maybe there is hope for me after all:)

Mika - "This is not funny," Brzezinski told her audience. "This is really bad. Just for the record, we are all really nervous. So if people out there feel nervous, we do too."
Ya know...this same nonsense is happening in Arlington. ~We Are Scared~
There was a school board meeting with kids showing up in matching t-shirts moaning about how they are scared. The Superintendent sent out a letter assuring Arlington citizens that Arlington public schools cared about them.
https://www.apsva.us/post/superintendent-reaffirms-aps-commitment-support-children/
"We have heard from families, students and staff about concerns in light of the most recent changes to our nation’s political landscape."
At the school board meeting there were vague stories about "a dramatic rise in incidents of racism, homophobia and hate.”

Porch, I think that's why the rumors of Trump's anger over the Sessions recusal might be true. In his attempt to be gentile, Sessions created too much ambiguity in just what he would stay out of and exactly who would stand in for him on those matters. All that was not a good thing, nor was creating the impression that Trump and his top team are not, as we thought and hoped, working hand in glove on draining the swamp.
Having your own opinion and sticking to it in front of the boss is a good thing and Trump is great to encourage that. But extending opinions to independent tactical/strategic disarmament is not the plan.

Yep,
Steve King @SteveKingIA
@RealDonaldTrump needs to purge Leftists from executive branch before disloyal, illegal & treasonist acts sink us.
'You're fired!': Trump could become lame duck unless he clears out Obama holdovers
This should be the core job of the Chief of Staff Reince Priebus. He must instruct every department head who should then direct every agency head to call for the resignation of any political appointees and special counsels who do not share the views of the president. Any open borders official within DOJ and DHS should be gone. Any pro-government-run health care supporter within HHS has to go. Any official within Treasury who is not on board with the OMB spending cuts and pro-growth tax cuts should go out and campaign for their cause … on the outside. Any State Department official who is a shill for refugee resettlement, a Palestinian State, the Muslim Brotherhood, or who opposes the president’s immigration moratorium must go.
President Trump has one last shot to save his presidency.
Reince Priebus clearly doesn’t share the views of movement conservatives, but that shouldn’t matter. His job is to make the trains come on time. If he cannot quell the divisions and ensure that the Obama holdovers are gone, there is no use to his services.
There is nothing harsh and revolutionary about this suggestion. It is exactly what Obama did the minute he took office. And he had an easier job because the residual deep state was a lot less hostile to his agenda than it is to Trump's. The federal bureaucracy under Bush was not even close to being conservative, and Obama only pushed it further to the left.

Today's Gospel was prescient about today's Left and Right:
Gospel Mt 25:31-46
Jesus said to his disciples:
"When the Son of Man comes in his glory,
and all the angels with him,
he will sit upon his glorious throne,
and all the nations will be assembled before him.
And he will separate them one from another,
as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
He will place the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
Then the king will say to those on his right,
'Come, you who are blessed by my Father.
Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
For I was hungry and you gave me food,
I was thirsty and you gave me drink,
a stranger and you welcomed me,
naked and you clothed me,
ill and you cared for me,
in prison and you visited me.'
Then the righteous will answer him and say,
'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you,
or thirsty and give you drink?
When did we see you a stranger and welcome you,
or naked and clothe you?
When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?'
And the king will say to them in reply,
'Amen, I say to you, whatever you did
for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.'
Then he will say to those on his left,
'Depart from me, you accursed,
into the eternal fire prepared for the Devil and his angels.
For I was hungry and you gave me no food,
I was thirsty and you gave me no drink,
a stranger and you gave me no welcome,
naked and you gave me no clothing,
ill and in prison, and you did not care for me.'
Then they will answer and say,
'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty
or a stranger or naked or ill or in prison,
and not minister to your needs?'
He will answer them, 'Amen, I say to you,
what you did not do for one of these least ones,
you did not do for me.'
And these will go off to eternal punishment,
but the righteous to eternal life."

Good Morning! Senator Angus King held a town hall meeting in Portland over the week-end. His discussion was focused on the Gorsuch nomination. He was preaching to the choir in southern Maine. Why doesn't he do a town hall in the Trump friendly 2nd District? Susan Collins was threatened with protests a couple of weeks ago and agreed to sit down with the activist group Indivisible to hear their concerns. There were no protests at King's meeting. *this is my shocked face*

There are so many similarities between then and now with Comey as the common denominator. That Russian Dossier reminds me of the Niger Forgeries. British spy Christopher Steele and Italian spy Rocco Martino, players or patsy's in each. Rogue and disgruntled CIA in both cases leaking classified intelligence. I've always believed those rogue CIA (VIPS) attempted a coup and tried to bring Bush down with those forgeries. Now the deep state's attempting another with President Trump. Nice job Tom Bowler.
