"How come they are having so many "Gas Explosions" over there if they're all living on renewable energy?"

Many years ago, in the mid 2000's, a townhouse, in I think it was Minneapolis, blew up at night. I mean it was destroyed. Initially, the word was that the townhouse resident had many gas cylinders in the townhouse. Then, all of a sudden, it was written up as a normal gas main leak.

You know, of the Omen would just shut the eff up, and if her vile parents and their hangers-on would stop pushing her into the public eye, she could go on and enjoy her ill-gotten and undeserved lifestyle and I wouldn't give her a second thought.

Lots of awful, or at least vapid and useless people are born into wealth and ease. That's how the world is, and I accept that. They're better off than me, and I'm better off than lots of other people, and none of us got a say in the circumstances of our parentage or inheritances.

But when someone who did absolutely nothing to earn or deserve the life she leads, and was given it by vile traitorous criminals, feels that she can tell me how to live my life - and, worse, seeks the power to make me live according to her choices, I have a lot of problems with that.

Clarice Feldman

Orly is terrible if you need to transfer from an international to a national flight, I agree. When it was first built and less crowded, and you were simply landing there or transfering on the same airline it was fine.

Contrast the Trump kids and Jared Kushner. Coming from money and privilege (and in Jared's case, like Mezvinsky, having a father who did time) doesn't necessarily result in a smug sense entitlement. The MSM hasn't even been able to make up stuff about them, much less find actual dirt, and you know they've tried.

maryrose

jimmyk

if you all think LaGuardia is a hellhole of an airport, then what would you think of Orly

As mentioned a couple of weeks ago, I like LaGuardia because it's small (never more than a short walk to the gate), easy to get to (20 minutes from midtown Manhattan with no traffic, rarely more than 40 even even in rush hour). It's similar to Reagan in DC. Some of the newer terminals are actually pretty nice. More recently (and temporarily) they've ruined it because of construction--you have to drive around some pretzel path to get to the dropoff/pickup areas.

Speaking of crappy airports, here's an interesting local story. The village of Aniak ("Go Halfbreeds!") is getting a new Runway put in against the wishes of the villagers: A new $55 million runway is in the works for Aniak. People there don't see any need.

Now the state of Alaska is about to launch a project to shift the Aniak runway 261 feet at an estimated cost of $55 million. But almost no one in the village sees the runway relocation as necessary or even beneficial, beyond construction jobs and a temporary boost to local lodges and other businesses. The state airport will stay where it is, slapdab in the center of town.

In practical terms, the runway will be shorter, narrower — and safer, according to the state Department of Transportation. And with that, the Federal Aviation Administration will pay most of the bill.

I'm knee-jerk with the villagers. Our $78 Million Dollar Ice-breaking Ferry Boat created a lot of local jobs too, but wound up being a complete boondoggle for Taxpayers.

From the comments: "$55,000,000 for a town of 500 people = $110,000 per person to UPGRADE the airport. Stop the insanity. Are there any lawmakers that understand basic economics? This is why we have a $20 Trillion and growing US debt and an AK budget that is unsustainable even if lawmakers start spending the PDF (it will not be inflation protected)."

I found myself in Adams-Morgan (a hotel I was staying at was nearby) sometime last year and while it was fairly lively, I felt as though I was the only person there over 30.

I've also stayed near 15th & K and never noticed any of the "night life" JiB mentioned. That either means I'm not very observant, or that the neighborhood has changed. Downtown DC does seem to roll up the sidewalks on weekday evenings, but Dupont Circle, Adams-Morgan, and Georgetown are a bit livelier, though not exactly heart-thumping.

daddy,

They moved the taxiway on our little strip over about 5' and made it narrower by about the same because of some lame new FAA reg that worried about passing Caravan wingtips clipping under some arbitrary worst case analysis. The cost was substantial.

DrJ,

Physical chemistry. Two data points. A guy that worked as a welder and went to school part time back in the day at ASU when I was building a race car was almost bored by physchem. I couldn't understand any random paragraph in his textbook.

The brother of a Chinese coder that I work with (Buckeye knows her) was a physchem prof in Beijing. He's obviously a bright guy, but it is amazing how narrow the intellect spread. In his case, it may be total lack of motivation.
