AllahPundit breaks down the Schumer Shuffle with Sen. Leahy and the Gorsuch filibuster. Do let me note this:
A not-so-crazy conspiracy theory for you: What if Schumer put Leahy up to this? No minority leader likes to see his authority undermined, but Schumer’s in a terrible bind here. If he doesn’t show the left that he’s willing to avenge Merrick Garland by using every obstructionist trick at his disposal, progressives will scapegoat him and turn him into a lightning rod for their anger over Trump.

I'm with OL:
, what's to prevent some punks in a cubicle from listening in to something they shouldn't even without a FISA warrant? I wonder how many FISA warrants got applied for after somebody had already listened to something first? Since listening in is done is secret, who protects the rights of the target except for the good will of the agency and the FISA Judge?
And that's just FISA. There was a story making the rounds where some prison had illegally taped hundreds of conversations between inmates and their lawyers.
Once the tool is in the wild, it will certainly be used other than intended.
I consider any tool under the control of Brennan, Clapper or Jarrett "in the wild", but that's just me.

Here's TK's Fresno Bee link on Nunes meeting the whistleblower on White House grounds.
Devin Nunes met source of surveillance info on White House grounds
House intelligence chairman and Tulare Republican Devin Nunes met on the White House grounds with the source of the claim that communications involving President Donald Trump's associates were caught up in "incidental" surveillance, the congressman's spokesman said Monday.
My bet is Nunes is being wiretapped even as I type.

Just starting catch-up, so I finally read TM's last post about driverless Uber cars.
You guys may remember a made for TV Movie from the 70's titled Duel,
where Dennis Weaver was on some western Highway and some trucker decides to kill him by running him off the road. Scared the bejesus out of me!
Here's the previews for that as refresher: Duel
In the same way as I think that some spooks will illegally listen in to any conversation they want regardless of the Law, I also think there will be a population of moron drivers that will take delight in screwing with driverless cars by veering close to them to see if they can get them to run into things or have accidents. I think it's time to do a remake of Duel, updated with driverless Uber taxicabs.

Can Trump unilaterally do this with the stroke of a pen?
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/powerpost/paloma/daily-202/2017/03/27/daily-202-how-trump-s-presidency-is-succeeding/58d88409e9b69b72b2551039/?utm_term=.5338b2a9578d
There are other steps the administration could take: “A major one would be to end cost-sharing subsidies the law provides to lower- and middle-income people with marketplace plans to help pay their deductibles and co-pays," Amy and Juliet note.
The way I am interpreting that is that some low income people get their Obamacare policy premiums subsidized by other taxpayers. In other words, they may be paying little to nothing out of their own pockets for monthly premiums while the real cost of their premiums are paid by actual taxpayers.
Does Trump have the authority to end those subsidies and force low income Obamacare policy holders to pay the full price of their premiums?

Reposting from the very end of the last thread:
https://www.axios.com/axios-sneak-peek-2330760797.html
Excerpt:
2. Power move: watch the Congressional Black Caucus
The healthcare fiasco taught Trump he can't accomplish big things with just one party. He's looking to work with Democrats but Trump's inner circle anticipates total opposition from Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi. Some in that circle, however, believe there's an opportunity to go through the Congressional Black Caucus, a Democratic group Trump met with last week.
Sam Geduldig, a Republican lobbyist at CGCN Group, has been working with African-American lobbyists on just such a project.
"There is a path for bipartisan victories in Congress," Geduldig says. "A coalition of black caucus Democrats and Republicans is kryptonite to rich white liberals. Imagine a tax and infrastructure bill that provides tax cuts for Republicans and new pipes for Flint, Michigan. How do Stabenow and Peters [Michigan's U.S. Senators] justify voting no?"
----------
There is more at the link.
This would fit into his pledge to help the inner cities. Apparently this is a real possibility because Rush was blathering about how if you work with the democrats you have to follow their agenda. (I don't think that's necessarily true.)
This is what happens when the conservatives show that they are not a vote to be counted on.
Politicians (and Trump is one, now, whether he likes it or not) have to get their votes somewhere. If a group is undependable, then the politician will go to another group in order to get his legislation passed. That's just politics, as I learned from my old friend Common Tator, now sadly gone, many years ago on Free Republic.

In Hour 2 Rush is doing a long bit on the Ted Koppel TV Interview on "Fake News." Rush is explaining why he refused to go on with Ted Koppel last week for that broadcast. Rush said that in very early days of his program he and Koppel had gotten on fine, but one day Ted Koppel had on Barnie Frank and during some back and forth Barnie Frank falsely told Koppel on the broadcast that Rush had said something filthy and scurrilous, and Koppel did not correct Barnie Frank on air for that scurrilous lie.
Rush said that the next day Ted Koppel called Rush and said that he knew what Barnie Frank had said was a lie and he knew it at the time Barnie frank said it, and now he wanted to let Rush know that he (Koppel) knew it was false at the time it was said, but then he said that he did not want Rush to tell anyone that he had called Rush to give him this secret pseudo-apology.
Rush said he held his tongue but was angry because Koppel allowed all Koppel's viewers to continue to think he had said this scurrilous thing. Rush then said that some time later again Koppel did something on his show that was as phony and angering as this first instance, so Rush went on his program and told about this Ted Koppel secret apology. Rush said he immediately got a call from Koppel furious that Rush had revealed that Koppel had secretly apologized. Rush said that since that angry call from Koppel in the early 1990's Ted Koppel has never said a word to Rush since, until last month trying to get Rush to go on his "Fake News" Show and Rush refused.
Thought that was quite some insight into despicable Ted Koppel.

Posted by: Miss Marple the Deplorable | March 27, 2017 at 06:21 PM
I'd love to find 'Duel', the story, but I think the deal was that the original writer left it ambiguous whether or not the trucker was trying to hurt the car driver, or rather that the car driver was just paranoid and misinterpreted the motives of the trucker.
Of course, that sort of ambiguity wouldn't sell on TV and Spielberg just took the one plot line and ran with it, to impressive and longstanding effect I guess.
I remember being outraged at the dumbing down of it.

Rush on his show today mentioned, in all this Koppel interview business, that in 1989 or whenever his show first started his Father, a very smart guy, very well educated, WW2 vet etc, was listening to his son's brand new radio show and that he was amazed because he said to Rush's mom something like "this isn't the way it's supposed to work here in America. He hasn't even gone to college. Why would they give him a radio show to say whatever he thinks? It makes no sense!"
Then after the broadcast Rushs mom said his pop looke at her and said, that was great, but where the heck did he learn all that stuff?" And she replied, "He learned it listening to you, Dear."
It was a very touching bit. BTW, Rush also said that the "come on" that Koppel, and CBS were using to get him to come on was also a lie. They played it up as if it was going to be about something other than what it came out actually being about. Par for the course.

Smart move. Unfortunately I don't think the real truth of what happened will ever come out because there are conflicting agendas. Maybe Fred Barnes will get to the bottom of it; despite Kristol and Hayes losing their minds, although Billy Boy showed tentative signs of sanity yesterday, Barnes was given free rein to say positive things about DJT during the campaign.
Hopefully Trump knows what happened, one way or another.
