We're going nuclear in the Senate, we're going conventional in Syria - what a way to end the week.
The "Putin's stooge Trump is bombing Putin's puppet Assad" storyline confuses me, but I never claimed to be smart enough to be a progressive.
Philip Klein of the Washington Examiner tries to square Trump's campaign rhetoric with his current bellicosity. His conclusion:
For now, it's fair to say, that though both the act of attacking Syria itself and the failure to get Congressional approval contradicted numerous Trump statements, Trump's action was consistent with the general "I'm gonna be a badass but don't want to spend money building other countries while our airports fall apart" ethos of his campaign.
David French provides background and describes some of the ways this could end badly.
I am informed by Tweet from my governor: #NationalBeerDay.
Yes, beer is good.

"Barbara, the #NeverTrump people proved "virtue signaling" is not exclusive to Social a Justice Warriors."
Henry,
I completely agree with your comments. Trump is not one of the cookie cutter Republicans or presidents for that matter. Either these pundits don't have a clue or they're more worried about the title of their next book and whether they'll be invited back as a political analyst if they don't say something colorful and critical about the President.

But he's so crooked he has to screw his pants on.
He's independent, though.

"The United Nations is still hand-selecting refugees for distribution into more than 300 U.S. cities and towns. It currently has about 10,000 refugees in the pipeline destined for the U.S. The Trump administration is also honoring an agreement negotiated by the Obama administration to take at least 1,300 refugees from Afghanistan and other Muslim nations off the hands of Australia.
“The State Department and its contractors are still bringing them in, and he could have done a 120-day moratorium without announcing it to anybody,” Corcoran said. “Internally, just stop it for four months with exceptions for extraordinary cases, so there’s no analysis of the extreme vetting because they’re still coming and they’re coming without extreme vetting.
“I’m very frustrated.”"

So the lame asses calling this "revenge" or "an act of aggression", on what do they base these assessments?
Revenge for what act specifically?
Aggression to seize what territory, resources, or enact some kind of conquest-related victory?
Did we invade a foreign power like say Hitler invaded Poland? Wasn't that considered aggression?
We went into Vietnam under a phony Gulf of Tonkin Resolution and blew a lot of people and shit up. That was aggression, was it not, even though the pretext was halting the aggression of communist North Vietnam against the South?
The situation in Syria is out of control and a biological agent was used in open warfare with confirmed military intel confirming who did what when and to whom.
Creating a disincentive for the long-headed Opthamologist to stop dickin' around with nerve agents, which could easily be captured by ISIS were he to ultimately lose the war and his arsenal---- makes common sense.
But to call it aggression? What kind of a dumb bunny must one be to conflate this military action with some kind of jingoistic incursion into harm's way for the sake of fun and profit?
The naysayers in the media speak out of turn and way too soon from both sides of the UniParty's media circus. At times like this, when the Commander in Chief acts, PUNDITS need to reach down deep for a bigger set of balls that it requires to delay their *REACTION* until they have been apprised of the facts.
What possible motive for "revenge" could POTUS have for launching the mission?
I am amazed at the high school level behavior of the media talking heads. Cool or not cool seems to be the calibrating spectrum for nearly every one of them-- in this case even Michelle Malkin and Ann Coulter.
"I hope he's not...." Seriously? I hope they're not superimposing their experience at playing Candyland- Extreme Edition, with the Commander in Chief and the Joint Chiefs trying to manage a brutal and desperate geopolitical situation which our last round of leaders under the Rat and Candleface Kerry *EXACERBATED* and blew up.
A major explosive device is a good way to put out a fire that has raged too long out of control.
In this hyper-feminized media world where homosexual males get center stage on tv and skirts with face jobs vy for million dollar ratings jobs, the dirty, gritty and grisly business of protecting their coiffed asses does not quite fit with the fake news takers inside their shallow "click here" "rewards" "my convenience" hamster cages in which they live and engage in random and fruitless breeding behaviors.
The entire lot of them are disgusting and provide no reliable value about most happenings of the day.
The commentary is going along from the punditry as if the CIC heard the gas story on the news and dialed up the Joint Chiefs and said "Let er rip."
Good lod, that isn't how this goes.
Ask questions if you are in the media. Call somebody. At least read a [redacted] book about military strategy.

as this been linked yet? UK DailyMail: EXCLUSIVE: Cybersecurity experts who were first to conclude that Putin hacked presidential election ABANDON some of their claims against Russia - and refuse to co-operate with Congress
CrowdStrike is also refusing to testify in public to the House Intelligence Committee on what it knows and declined to speak to DailyMail.com...
CrowdStrike was hired by the Democratic National Committee to investigate suspicious network activity last May. In June it declared that the committee had been hacked by the Russian government, starting a firestorm over the campaign.
CrowdStrike, based in Irvine, California, is also the only group that the DNC allowed to directly examine its servers.
Not even the FBI has been granted access to the servers
A long in-depth article. Nice to see that some news outfit, even if it's British, is interested in following this story.
However CrowdStrike is proving hostile to further scrutiny of its methods, DailyMail.com can disclose.
Last month, CrowdStrike's co-founder Dmitri Alperovitch and its president Shawn Henry turned down an invitation to testify before the House Intelligence Committee about Russian interference in the U.S. election.

An odd story continues up here in Anchorage.
4 days back Police shut down the Seward Highway just below our home at Beluga Point for 13 hours, due to Police Swat Teams surrounding some distraught guy with a gun shooting at Cops. They never caught him and he is still on the lam.
Tonight, about 4 PM we were all informed that at 7 PM the Seward Highway would once again be closed for a mile each side of Beluga Point. We suspected it was Police locating the gunman, or maybe doing a search for his body under the assumption he had committed suicide.
Wrong. We now learn that President and Mrs Xi of China landed at Anchorage about 6:30 PM and wanted to meet our Governor, so they supposedly all drove in a motorcade down to Beluga Point for some ceremonial meeting. How odd.
It's a gorgeous location this time of year, and with the sun still bright until 9 PM and blue skies and snow on the upper levels it's hard to find a prettier place on Earth. I can't find a picture that does it justice, but in this pic it's the large rocks from the left sticking out into the Fiord. We are told it is named Beluga Point because it is the location from where the Native's used to watch for Beluga Whales to enter the Turnagain in pursuit of salmon, so they would leap in their Kayak's and hunt them. Wiki says archeological evidence shows human activity at Beluga Point between 8,000 and 10,000 years ago.

Well, well well--- we were just mentioning yesterday, I think it was MM and I, about Israel knowing a lot about the Obama spying:
"Smith writes.
‘At some point, the administration weaponized the NSA’s legitimate monitoring of communications of foreign officials to stay one step ahead of domestic political opponents,’ says a pro-Israel political operative who was deeply involved in the day-to-day fight over the Iran Deal.
‘The NSA’s collections of foreigners became a means of gathering real-time intelligence on Americans engaged in perfectly legitimate political activism—activism, due to the nature of the issue, that naturally involved conversations with foreigners. We began to notice the White House was responding immediately, sometimes within 24 hours, to specific conversations we were having.
At first, we thought it was a coincidence being amplified by our own paranoia. After a while, it simply became our working assumption that we were being spied on.’"
Read about the entire disgusting mess:

"Makes me wonder if Washington is repeating its mistake during the campaign, when its obsession with Trump's personality, with the drama and flamboyance and nuttiness of his circle, with his failure to live up to the standards of the Beltway, misled it into believing he had no chance, his goose was cooked, the jig was up, hello Madame President.
Might it be possible that the hyperventilation and paranoia that seized the imaginations of so many when Trump became the Republican frontrunner never really went away, that he is doing about as well as one would expect from a political neophyte who has never held elective office?
Behind the flurry of zany headlines and interviews and leaks and legislative foolishness is a president implementing his agenda and an America chugging along.
My advice: Do not miss the forest for the tweets."

Honest to God, I think some of these people are nuts and another group are dems trying to stir up dissent.

Notorious RBG would be the obvious choice, OL. The Horde aimed their ire at her yesterday in their post Gorsuch celebration, suggesting that the senile witch had surely damaged the left's power grabbing plans by not retiring while the donks had control of the Senate. Wow, 1.2 trillion sitting in a fund.
Man whose ID was used by deported mom Guadalupe Garcia de Rayos reports no problems https://t.co/Ucetl0ik92
Quote from the story:
Andrade said he still doesn’t know what happened to any reported wages Garcia de Rayos earned using his number. Her family said she worked at the park for more than a decade. Andrade said employees at the Social Security office have given him advice, but he hasn’t been able to get solid answers.
“I’m still going to keep looking until I figure it out,” he said. “I don’t want it to just come up and bite me in the ass. Also was this interesting tidbit:
Patricia Raymond, a regional communications director for the Social Security Administration, said in an e-mail Friday that if the agency receives earnings for a name and number that doesn’t match its database, those funds are placed in what is called an Earnings Suspense File.
According to 2015 report from the Office of the Inspector General, that fund had $1.2 trillion in it. About two-thirds of the fund was amassed during the years 2003 and 2012, the report says.

Davod,
Conservative Treehouse and Zerohedge.
Captain is right. For whatever reason Zerohedge has a large number of commenters who wallow in the "Jewish bankers conspiracy" mudhole, and Conservative Treehouse has a group who attribute all thinks bad to jared Kushner and/or Netenyahu.
CTH also has a commenter that is so pro-Russia that I would almost swear the guy IS Russian with superior English skills.
These commenter types are actually why Breitbart got a reputation of being anti-Semitic, which of course the left used to tar Bannon.
I see that Sundance on CTH has a post up telling people to kock it off with the Ivanka and Jared stuff, but he got 500 replies with a fair number insisting that the Kushners are globalist shills and such. These people need to crawl back under whatever rock they have escaped from.
I imagine there are similar type comments on leftist blogs, driven by the Muslim sympathizers. I can't swear to that though, because I don't visit sites like that.

I'm a huge Trump fan. That said...I'm leery of any photos that come out of the Middle East. Too many times they have been used to manipulate.
And are they real? Green helmet guy, al Durrah, Pallywood, the Turkish child that drowned, etc.
Where are gruesome & tragic pictures of 9/11 jumpers? or children shot in Chicago? or of the babies stabbed in the neck at Gosnell's "clinic"? Where are those photos?
Not a past photo from a family album, but the police scene photo. Blood, guts, crushed skull, ...
The manipulation is just too random...& from my view, it is almost always used for the leftist agenda.
Abu Ghraib photos in all U.S. papers...photos of the mutilated bodies of USA Pfc. Kristian Menchaca and Thomas L. Tucker not shown.

Miss M, possible Soros rent-a-commenters? It is the usual false flag racism pattern we see with all his group's.

Lurkersusie: interesting! Of course there is not actual money in the account, right? It's just credit for calculating Social Security wages/benefits

Janet,
My opinion is that gas was used and it should not be tolerated. I do not believe Trump, Tillerson, or Mattis are going to be manipulated.
If you read Tillerson's comments in the transcript, coupled with the Weekly Standard article, it is obvious that there is gas in Syria. It needs to be prevented from getting into the hands of ISIS or other nut case jihadis because they WILL try to get it into the US and use it.
The best solution would be for Russia to go in and get it out, since (as Tillerson said) they were either complicit in allowing it to remain or incompetent at supervising.
That was the point of the strike. They haven't destroyed the runway but they have destroyed the hangars, fueling capabilities, and about 20 planes.
I do not see President Trump getting sucked into a widening war with US ground troops in Syria (beyond what we have there going after ISIS, which is something he stated had to be done). I do think it is possible that troops from the area (Saudis, Jordanians, etc.) may be used to contain Assad.
The air strike was also a message to China and North Korea, which was extremely important.

henry,
Quite possible. David Brock's group Correct the Record has people employed to do nothing but push the lefty agenda on sites. They are quite a problem on Reddit.

CTH also has a commenter that is so pro-Russia that I would almost swear the guy IS Russian with superior English skills.
Back in 2008 when Volodya started saber rattling in Georgia, and candidate Zippy began exposing himself as a true international dunce even compared to McRINO, there were a lot of strange trolls that started showing up at Wretchard's site. I called them Crazy Ivans because they all were spreading the same disinformation and weren't fooling any of the regulars.

Zerohedge has always been home to inordinate numbers of Plan 9 From Outer Space types like Ayn Rand and Ron Paul worshippers and weird paleoconservate libertarian hybrids.
Since the editors publish stuff by guys like Paul Craig Roberts who is a brilliant analyst who has regrettably lost his mind, especially regarding Israel, I assume they don't mind too much those type of comments.
It is an unfortunate fact that under the umbrella of the "alt-right" are a number of anti-Semitic nutjobs.
We would do well to condemn them in the opposite manner that the left tolerates and even encourages anti-semitism, often under the rubric of anti-zionism.
Posted by: Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki | April 08, 2017 at 09:58 AM
and I don't think people questioning Ivanka's & Kushner's role in the administration should automatically be labeled anti-Semitic.
I question their role & influence.

I agree, Janet. I'm not wild about the Ivanka agenda at all. Although it is true there is a lot of anti-Semitism on the alt-right (and the left).

janet - I understand how you feel. However, there is something else happening all over which seems to be a planned assault. If you look at SM posts and some commenters on Trump supporting sites, the Ivanka/Kushner = evil posts are suddenly everywhere.
It reminds me of Rush's "montage" where he demonstrates the coordination of MSM by playing back the exact same words/phrases used over and over and over again.

If you see a link to photos of the Swedish truck attack - I recommend you not look. It is like a horror movie - very graphic photos of dismembered people (children) and even a mutilated dog.
