more on the Enceladus ocean

http://www.space.com/30559-saturn-moon-enceladus-has-ocean.html

The press release the other day was probably to generate buzz for a mission to the moon specifically. A more worth endeavor to go there than to fund [insert whatever cause one wants] ...

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Gosh it's just been a beautiful day here.

We have all the windows open with a nice breeze blowing through. Lots of sunshine. Just a gorgeous day.

>>>Rich, enjoy the show! How is the SN Summerfest? I have Spotted Cow with my dinner.

Posted by: henry | April 15, 2017 at 07:06 PM<<<

it is June 14th. If it's like the Pier6 show I went to it ought to be a blast.

I'm favorably impressed with the Summerfest.

The beer snobs at beer advocate give it a good rating. I don't get the lemon* notes mentioned in the reviews.

https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/140/3558/

* I remember a story that Beasts told us about taking his young kids to a restaurant and giving them some lemons when they had acted up. He would get some lemons and they would nibble on them. The thing is my parents did the same to me, and to this day, I can drink straight lemon juice and like it. So I kinda like lemon and if it is there I think they only waved a lemon over the top of this batch.

henry

Same here Miss M. First day to hit 80. Seemed to rain all last week too.

Rich, I agree. I'd rather fund an Enceladus mission than Im-Ex Bank, or PP, or EEOC, etc

rich

worthy ... with you there henry.

henry

Rich, I would think in a blazing hot summer (I grew up in TX then MO, so I know) a hint of lemon in a lighter beer would be fabulous. Those reviews read like confused hop heads to me.

rich

Agreed henry. Even without the lemon notes, this is a great beer. Goona be a challenge to cook my dinner, so I'm going to change out to some water.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

rich, Just saw an article that we have a laser gun that takes out drones. Very cool.

Didn't know we had a laser weapon on a ship, henry.

I was so proud if myself when I could talk about the AAC130 because I am not a weapons person. Now I am going to have to read up on lasers!

henry

MissM, the laser on the ship cracks me up... it is a solid phase laser, which was the key breakthrough in the movie "Real Genius." Yes it is now on a ship being tested, with rapid improvements in power / miniaturization. Soon to be on tanks / fighter aircraft. A fascinating and scary technology.

To hearken back to food, I mentioned "Ossobuco" because that was the entre for the first meal I had at Chez Clarise. It was wonderful. On a previous visit OL had taken the Clarises and me out to Ruth's Chris, which was great too.

I've been to Clarice's a few times thereafter, and always the food and company have been outstanding. She and Mr. Clarice are great hosts.

We have met with the OLs too on a couple of other occasions, and I've always enjoyed those times.

Sadly my last few trips have been terribly busy, and I've not had the time for these wonderful dinners and discussions.

CH, the Bucks? They still a thing? I know we taxpayers bought them a new arena, but I thought they would go suck out of sight after that. I haven't watched pro basketball since 1990. Thus I don't know who Gus Johnson or Gianni's are. (After Dr J got his title, the league went downhill).

henry

Narciso, wish I had links. But solid state is a big improvement over the chemical lasers (you get more than one shot). If you search on USS Ponce, you can find vids / articles.

Obama's taking credit for the missile failure:The mysterious powers of Obama. His charisma is enough to stop missiles, according to the NYT. "Over the past three years, a covert war over the missile program has broken out between North Korea and the United States. As the North’s skills grew, President Barack Obama ordered a surge in strikes against the missile launches, The New York Times reported last month, including through electronic-warfare techniques. It is unclear how successful the program has been, because it is almost impossible to tell whether any individual launch failed because of sabotage, faulty engineering or bad luck. But the North’s launch-failure rate has been extraordinarily high since Mr. Obama first accelerated the program."

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Clarice,

His toadies are always working for him.

Now would be a good time for Xi to take credit for all missile launch failures.

http://dailycaller.com/2017/04/08/nasa-scientists-we-could-do-very-little-to-stop-big-asteroid-that-will-barely-miss-earth/

In a recent war game, NASA and other federal agencies were unable to deflect a simulated asteroid on course to hit Earth with four years of warning.

In the event an asteroid does hit Earth, NASA’s Planetary Defense Coordination Office would work with FEMA, the Department of Defense and other agencies to coordinate disaster responses.

Not exactly reassuring.
