Trump gets tremendous credit for doing what Obama and Kerry merely talked about, namely, doing not much. But symbolism counts and Trump has certainly given world leaders pause for reflection. From The American Interest:
Back in the real world, however, the strike was being read for what it is: a demonstration that this Administration is less reluctant to use force than the one that preceded it. And though Russia was the big power most directly challenged by the strike, Putin was perhaps not even the primary intended recipient of the message. The strikes occurred just as President Trump was having dinner with Xi Jinping of China, and, according to AFP, Trump delivered the news to Xi personally. The subtext was unmistakeable: Get serious about North Korea; our recent threats were not idle. Don Corleone himself couldn’t have set a better table.
China won't tolerate a Korea unified under Southern leadership aligned with the West. But they do have an heir to the throne handy if Trump starts to seem even more problematic than Kim Jonh Un.

From the last thread:
"Barbara, that's my experience, too. My desk is always a mess--in Sixth grade it was the bane of our teacher. former Congressman Ken Hechler (author of "Bridge at Remagen")never used file cabinets,.."
Clarice,
Why change what obviously works?
I like things to be organized, but I loathe file cabinets. Once something goes in a file cabinet no matter how organized it may be, it's as good as disappeared IMO. I use them for documents I won't have to see again for years.
I have a similar view about my kitchen. I know where everything is, but if someone moves an item or puts it in another place, I'll know it. My system may not suit all, but everyone knows not to mess with my ktchen!

Funny you should mention this, Marlene, because I got a call from somebody older than me (class of '60) calling about the 50th reunion. He used to be a repo man so he was used to tracking people down and I've been at the same landline number since '74. I'm 50/50 on whether to go but we'll see; maybe slightly more in favor of going.
Went to a memorial service of one of my music bud's lowlife brother (a very smart guy whose brain wasn't wired right because he ran major cons on every family member). Saw a bunch of people I used to work with so it was good catching up with them, the priest and my bud gave outstanding eulogies and chowed down at the Lithuanian Social Club.

What was the famous BB coache's name? Morgan Woodson? or something like that. He was even winning when I first moved up to So MD in the late 60's-early 70's. He and his teams were a regular sports story on the WaPo.

Morgan Wootten. Taught me world history. I regret that I lived so far away that I had to worry about finding a ride home and I never went out for the teams. I'd have never made it past the first cut but my fundamentals would have been a lot better.
Posted by: Captain Hate | April 08, 2017 at 04:56 PM
My best Morgan Wootten story revolved around a big game against somebody really good, maybe Baltimore Dunbar. Adrian Dantley missed a practice unannounced and at game time Morgan sat him at the end of the bench and he didn't play a second. The Stags got pounded and as time ran out, Morgan told Dantley "it would've been nice if you could've helped us out today".

Joel C. Rosenberg has another novel out, Without Warning. It's another J.B.Collins novel, extending the previous trilogy by one more.
I suppose he began working on it before Designated Survivor came out, but the book begins with a SOTU address by the President during which an attach on the Capitol occurs, killing many (not all) members of Congress (and not the President).
The President in the book is clearly patterned after Obama (unwilling to call Islamic jihad by its name, his frustrated Israeli allies refer to him as Mr. Drone Strike, he telegraphs his attacks in advance, etc.). I'm guessing Rosenberg wasn't a Hillary! voter.

FTA (CTH)--watch how the plan to stabilize Syria was laid out--with coordination among all relevant branches of grown ups:FTA--Both sides of the conflict stink--the plan is to knock off ISIS and stabilize the country and provide safety for its people:
" Immediately following his inauguration, President Trump spoke to Saudi Arabia’s King Salman and gained his ideological and financial support for building a safe zone for Syrian’s as they rebuild.
A week later, President Trump spoke at length to Egypt’s Fattah al-Sisi about their efforts.
At the beginning of February – King Abdullah III of Jordan traveled to Washington to meet with Vice-President Mike Pence and discuss aide and assistance for regional security. Previously, in November 2016, King Abdullah spoke to President-elect Trump
A week later – Benjamin Netanyahu arrived in Washington DC for a very warm and optimistic meeting with President Trump for talks on regional security.
At the beginning of March – Egyptian foreign minister Sameh Shoukry visited Washington, met with members of Congress and held a long discussion with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson,
Mid-March Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas met with an envoy from President Trump and told him that a peace deal is possible under the new president.
Last Week (Monday) – Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi came to the White House for an official state visit, and a very warm greeting by President Trump.
Last Week (Wednesday) – Jordan’s King Abdullah II follows al-Sisi with a visit to the White House and receives another very warm greeting by the U.S. President

A slightly more convoluted strain on the left: Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the chemical weapons massacre to help Trump — distracting Americans from an investigation into Trump's campaign ties to Russia by provoking the missile strike.
That theory — evidence-free — was laid out on a small anti-Trump website shortly after the missile strike.
But it went mainstream Friday night, when Lawrence O'Donnell advanced similar speculation on his MSNBC show, “The Last Word.”

When Netanyahu was here a month or so ago he opened the door to a paradigm shift in peace talks, if you recall. Of course this was laughed off by the Left. Trump is far too stupid, they said.
Welp, it would seem that a number of the players have been to'ing and fro'ing and who knows what's been going on in the side discussions?
So let's just hope and pray something good comes from that. Otherwise, t'would seem the Syrians have received one ass kicking and may be up for another, larger ass kicking.

I am amazed that anyone thinks that Trump is an inferior intellect. If they had read any of his books, they would understand him better.
He is not a linear thinker, like many on the left. He is a creative thinker.
Think about building Trump Tower, for example.
He had to keep in his head possible tenants, financing, zoning, environmental regulations, union contracts, Mayor Koch's harassment, publicity, and profits possible. (Probably more things I can't remember.)
He did this while running OTHER projects. He did this while being out on the town making a name for himself in the papers. And he did this while making a paycheck for all of his employees.
When he looks at something like Syria, he is not just looking at that country. He is looking at the whole region, and what other countries need to be peaceful and happy. I was struck by King Abdullah saying that he had taken a "holistic approach" to the problem. Also, if you will note in that press conference, King Abdullah made reference to the "many meetings they had had over the years."
Did anyone know that Donald Trump even KNEW King Abdullah? Obviously, he did, and for a long time.
I am happy that the left keeps thinking that Trump is a moron who doesn't know what he's doing. It will be even more satisfying when he brings peace to the Middle East.
