Patience, grasshopper.

The weekly disaster call moves from WH staff to the Senate. Yawn.

Free James D!

An Arlington real estate/business question for OL (or Janet)...

Do you happen to know the story behind the two vetinary clinics directly across the street from each other on Lee Highway in the Cherrydale neighborhood?

Vet clinics are not super-common and it's always seemed odd to me that we have two of them within 100 feet of each other.

This is why the Senate was not restored even in Marcus Aurelius day.

Wanted to post this last night for Mother's Day. This is Mary Anne MacLeod's (Trump's mom) meat loaf recipe.

I'm not going to link to the semi-poison site where I found it.

Mr. Trump’s Mother’s Meatloaf:

2 lbs fresh ground beef
1 Spanish onion (fine dice)
1 Red bell pepper (fine dice)
1 Green bell pepper (fine dice)
2 cloves garlic (minced)
1 large beefsteak tomato diced fine (remove seeds)
2 extra large fresh eggs
2/3 cup of seasoned breadcrumbs
¼ cup chopped parsley
2/3 cup of tomato puree
1/2 tablespoon of salt and pepper

1). In a large sauce pan slowly cook peppers, onion, garlic and tomato until the onions turn translucent and let cool.

2). In a large mixing bowl add ground beef, cooked cool vegetables, eggs, breadcrumbs, parsley, salt and pepper and mix well.

3). Remove the mixture from bowl and place in a 14”x 9” x 2” ceramic baking dish and form into a loaf.

4). Top loaf with tomato puree and bake in a 350 degree oven for 45-55 minutes or until brown and firm.

5). Let the loaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve with mushroom gravy and mashed potatoes.

Reposting from last thread.

I am on the wrong side of 50 and have been following politics since the Reagan era. Knowing that the media has always tilted heavily to the left and is heavily biased against conservatives, I still can not recall a time when I have ever seen what is going on right now.

Every day there is some new, bizarre negative headline about the Trump administration that automatically triggers disbelief when I read it. Today it was Morning Joe claiming Kellyann Conway secretly despises Trump and is only working for him for the money. Over the weekend there were the "rumors" that Trump was going to fire Bannon, Priebus and Spicer.

Out of all the multiple ways to interpret this "news", the one most logical to me is that the Democrats, the DC Establishment and the mainstream media are absolutely terrified with how successful Trump has been so far and the only way to slow him down and damage him is to make up ridiculous stories like the ones surrounding his inner circle.

Getting rid of Trump's inner circle of advisors, especially Bannon, is a goal of the Trump haters because they know that whoever their successors are would never be as effective as the current inner circle.

I also can't help but to remember all the longstanding rumors before the election of a DC pedophile ring. What if the removal of Comey has people involved with that worried? What we have seen in the news the past week is exactly how I would expect the Establishment to respond in that situation.

Tom R, I'm with you.

We certainly have never seen anything like this before, and it's precisely how one would expect terrified Democrats to behave.

There are a lot of bodies buried in the swamp.

Scarred but not beaten

You have ambassador of the United Nations calling him the CEO of the country, fundamentally ignorant of the Constitution. The republic and the Constitution, the system that's been put in place," Scarborough said.

"And Rex Tillerson cowering.... I don't know what word I'm looking for, but it's sad and pathetic the secretary of state feels like he has to say that he's, quote, devoted."

matt, deplore me if you must

An awful lot of baby poop stains on the rears of those white togas.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Tom R.,

I agree with you. It seems to me there are 2 things going on:

1. The absolute panic from the democrats and the media, hence all the bogus stories.

2. A deliberate campaign to cause hysteria amongst the rank and file, (seen in my family from those who get their news from mainstream sources or from already panicked friends on Facebook).

What I have done: no cable, as I don't want to fund any of them. No local paper, as it only prints AP garbage and is a Gannett rag.) No visiting MSM web sites.

It's frustrating, but I have faith in the people of this country.

As to the points that excited everyone, except Old Lurker (who I visualize with his hands over his ears, going la, la ,la, serenity, serenity, the ledge is place to live, not a place from which to jump).

1. Trump firing of Comey was always going to cause some controversy. It's caused twice of much because of Trump's inability to stick to a single story. Politicians are "on message" for a reason. Every inconsistancy generates a story.

2. The who subplot on "taping" comes from a Trump tweet that suggested he was recording his conversations with Comey. If he kept his trash talk to himself, we wouldn't be having this melodrama.

Unless Trump wants an Independent Counsel, or is willing to pay that price to see Comey gone, I don't see the 3-d chess game at play, here. I just see a guy whose credibility is mistrusted shred it some more.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Exactly what would an independent counsel be investigating? What crime are we talking about? Be specific.

2. The who subplot on "taping" comes from a Trump tweet that suggested he was recording his conversations with Comey.

Trump said nothing about who was doing the taping.

Jim Eagle

"Keep Appalled Guessing".

Which is what you usually do. Trump's weakness for DC is that he doesn't know how to lie effectively like his most recent predecessor and his administration.

You have to be extremely partisan to conclude from Trump's tweet that he was solely talking about tapes he may have made versus tapes Comey may have made.

Captain Hate

The article also alludes to the earlier Pravda-style disappearance of "The Path to 9/11" at the behest of the Clinton crime family.

The #RealNews cheerleaders should have that shoved up their pansy asses until they STFU.

No independent counsel for the the simple reason that it is the Demonrats that are requesting it
We will pass everything without their votes.
We will do as we damn well please.
They are irrelevant to the draining of the swamp.
Comey and company will try and spin his firing ergo President Trump has put him on notice.

Unless Trump wants an Independent Counsel, or is willing to pay that price to see Comey gone

Comey is already gone.

"If he kept his trash talk to himself, we wouldn't be having this melodrama"

As long as Trump continues to win exist we will be having this melodrama.

Appalled has ?inadvertently? revealed how bass-ackwards his mind is on everything Trump.

Trump's "Brash Talk" won the nomination, won the election, and is driving the opposition to hysterical self destruction.

But Appalled wants Trump to stop stop stop it's driving him crazy.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

I'm sure the failing NYT has no interest in exaggerating dissent among Republicans, so this story is completely believable.

Funny how so many arguments vaporize when you examine their premises.

Miss M:

I don't support an independent counsel, because they usually work at finding a crime to justify themselves, which is not the way justice gets done. For Presidents, they sometime have the effect of taking the scandal de jour out of the news, because everything around the investigation becomes confidential. That is a reason 3-d Trump might kind of support one, as he noisily complains against it.

As for "what's the crime"? Well, if there are direct contacts between the Trump folks and the Russian security services for the purposes of getting Trump elected, it's treason, or accepting in-kind campaign contributions from a foreign power.

Old Lurker

James, Arlington County zoning is not friendly to Vet uses so it requires a)a site the county will permit where b)the rent is affordable. And, like my drugstore analogy, there is only so much market demand and once filled, more vets does not help any of them. Boarding or not is a big deal.

I've been trying to put one in but the zoning is tough and getting past that requires neighborhood support and that opens me to blackmail from the neighbors (we will allow a vet but only if you operate it a,b,c and also only if you find us a coffee shop for the next vacancy).

Clarice Feldman

Go back to your google legal library.

If (big, huge, enormous, out of this world, if) there was collusion between
the Trump campaign and Russia its not a crime. Maybe unethical but collusion is not a crime. Collusion can be nothing more than a phone call to agree to meet sometime for drinks.

I think you may be thinking about conspiracy to fix the election, which is totally different and I want to know how the Russians would do it.

I think we agree that the Russia controversy keeps Trump from exercising full powers of persuasion on Congress. If Trump looks vulnerable, why should I bother paying attention to him?

Old Lurker

BTW, Narc...Dead Poets was St. Andrews in Delaware. This is St. Andrews right here in Potomac, part of which is right in my very own Episcopal parish.

Ok, that was incoherent. If I am an R Senator or a Congressman, and vaguely #nevertrump in orientation, why should I listen to a word Trump says if he looks vulnerable. The more vulnerable he looks, the more I consider joining in an impeachment vote for the good of the country.

Yes... the uniparty scheme in a nutshell there appalled. Make Trump look vulnerable so you don't have to pay attention to him. Right. Meanwhile the population (who you foolishly ignore) is sharpening pikes.

I agree that on occasion Trump shoots from the hip, but it doesn't bother me the way it bothers you. It makes the press crazy - preaching doom at every chance and while they are busy preaching doom, I also think it gives him room to get important stuff done.

The Comey crisis is a joke, and the press is all over it. It just makes me laugh because I think it shows the press as petty and biased - the same for the democrats. I know no normal people who are freaked out about it.

The guy is who he is. If you don't like him you will like him less for this trait, if you like him, you will like him more.

Works fine on Appalled though ...

Agree with you about the import of ignoring Trump altogether. It's why I don't really want him to take himself out. i would prefer him to lose on the merits, not on bs that he can't get rid of, because he hasn't the faintest clue on what draining the swamp requires.

Conspiring wih Russia to hack into the DNC (also requiring a big, huge if) would be a crime. Taking advantage of gifts from WikiLeaks isn't.

I don't think they can get there, myself. That's why I think Donald just needs to declassify everything that had to be declassified to put it all out on full view right now.

This is not the 3-d chess Donald plays, though.

Clarice Feldman

Trying to play with our minds, and it isn't working--people around the country are simply ignoring the crap, except for ™ who reads the NYT every day so we don't have to.

I remember a time when I could not imagine people who ignored the media. I was a news junkie! I watched the morning news, listened as I drove to work, subscribed to several news magazines as well as 2 newspapers, listened to news as I drove home, listened/watched nightly news as I cooked dinner, watched all the "60 Minutes" type shows...and then there were the Sunday shows!

Now - none, zip, nada! I am 200% happier without it. I selectively read online sites and listen to a dwindling number of talk radio shows. I have seen over and over again that what is presented in the MSM is akin to the gossip of mean girls in high school. Made up trash whose sole purpose is to defame and damage our President and our country.

I denounce them and not only will they not get one penny of my money, they will not receive one second of my time!

Salena Zito was prescient in noticing Trump's strength in PA way ahead of the Appalleds of the world.

If she says Grenell is correct, he's correct.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

I am interested in that pair of tweets that lurkersusie posted.

The first is the reporter from the New York Post reporter who went around the country interviewing voters in the Rust Belt, Appalachia, and Farm Country. (Interviewing the voters: what a concept!)

The second is the guy who for a short time was Romney's foreign policy advisor, but was outed as gay and fell on his sword for the good of the country and getting Romney elected. (As far as I know, Romney hasn't spoken to him since.)

Grenell used to work for the State Department and is very helpful when something at State comes up (like how secured documents were SUPPOSED to be handled.)

I think this is true. My sister who doesn't have cable has tuned out the network news. She turns on local news for weather and local interest stuff like crime problems.) No one here watches the news. My grandson getshis news from web sites and doesn't pay attention to the lefty sites at all.

At some point even Disney will take a look at how much of a money pit ABC News is. Shareholders aren't going to put up with their charity case forever.

Oh wait. That NEWS is decades old.

If [people are gulled by Dems and the MSM so ] Trump looks vulnerable, [and if Appalled is not canny enough to see what happened, Appalled is likely to ask] why should I bother paying attention to him?

We give Appalled more credit than that.

Come back here after his Middle Eastern and European trip.

What I love is the consistent insistence on seeing a feature of Donald Trump (that he skillfully uses as a reliable tool) as a bug that can't be controlled by Donald Trump and is sure to sink him one day somewhere over the rainbow.

They so desperately want to believe the chaos and incompetence narrative that they are continual suckers for the leaks indicating such.

Fake chaos when you are actually making tracks is a beautiful way to neuter your unethical opposition. And spook the deep state by using their modus operandi against them.

There are two ways to look at the new national NBC/WSJ poll we released Sunday. The first way: President Trump's firing of FBI Director James Comey didn't significantly change the president's overall standing. Trump's job-approval rating dipped one point from 40% in April to 39% now, which is well within the poll's margin of error. And his fav/unfav score is 38% positive/52% negative — again basically unchanged from April.

But here's the second way to view the poll: Trump's 39% job rating is a screaming alarm bell for the Republican Party when you think about the midterms, which are still more than 500 days away. To put Trump's 39% into perspective, George W. Bush didn't reach that level in the NBC/WSJ poll until October 2005, so after the Social Security debacle, after the Iraq war turned south, and after Hurricane Katrina. And the GOP lost the House and Senate the following year. And Barack Obama NEVER reached 39% in our poll -- his lowest approval rating was 40% in September 2014, right before Democrats lost the Senate (after losing the House in 2010).

116 days in, and Trump's standing resembles Bush 43's in the fall of 2005 and Obama's in 2014

Evidence of a crime.... evidence of a crime....evidence of a crime.

That is what I'm saying with my ears covered instead of "la-la-la".

My second favorite mantra in the wake of continued bleating such as "Unless Trump wants an independent counsel...." is

there needs to be a law first...there needs to be a law first...there needs to be a law first...

Otherwise, the Department of Justice--- UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THE PRESIDENT--- can appoint a special prosecutor but it is without the force of the law which expired in 1999 and was not reinstated.

So, "Unless Trump wants an Independent Counsel..." is pointless.

If Trump wants an Independent Counsel he can appoint one: but that appointment can be made, scoped, and dispatched with ZERO input from Schumer's Corpse of Schlemiels.

At some point, it will be the unintended consequence of all the bleating.

And it will have far worse effects than the Schlemiels calling for Comey to be fired because "Hillary was winning."

Far far worse for the Schlemiels and more than likely a game changer for the Deep State UniParty in terms of its demise, drained swamp etc etc etc.

Clarice Feldman

Trump also fired the Director of the Census Bureau though with all the ice cream stories you might not have caught this..You know the Bureau Obama moved to the WH and that proceeded to ask nosey poker stories about sex and race.

Fake chaos, news and alternate facts sounds like Bizarroland.

You're right at home rattle.

His pedophile pucker should be a crime.

I wonder how much the Census cooked population numbers to try to game the Electoral College.

The Census Bureau was moved to the WH as a political tool to manage redistricting in 2020.

Voter ID, hell, who cares when you turn real census counts into statistics. Everyone knows statistics don’t lie.

matt, deplore me if you must

I'm going to guess that the MSM has spent millions on unwatched air time and lower ad revenues in their quest to vilify Trump.

The echo chamber in Washington is so sealed now that they haven't a clue that most of the rest of us despise them even more now than we did in 2016. That is a hard feat to accomplish.

Let the RINO's do their thing. McCain is in his late 80's now and senile, as are many Senate leaders. He was a bottom of his class thinker and many of the other RINO's have a similar lack of achievement.

What I see from the cheap seats is that the Left is completely alienating the rest of us and if the RINO's want to play a losing hand there will be plenty of new faces running.

Illegal immigration is down. Oil production is way up. The regulatory environment is improving. Comey's scalp is hanging from Trump's belt and there is more to come. People voted to drain the swamp. That large sucking sound is sweet music to most of us.

Putin: "Hello? ..."

Trump: "Hi Vlad, It's The Donald"

Putin: "What's up comrade?"

Trump: "My deep cover moles tell me you tried to hack the RNC and the DNC but could only get into the DNC."

Putin: "... Maybe ... what of it?"

Trump: "Well, that would mean you probably can't hurt my campaign but you could hurt Clinton's"

Putin: "... hypothetically speaking ... why would I?"

Trump: "Well, if something like that were to go down ... president Trump could be very very flexible on those silly sanctions"

Putin: "Looking forward to wonderful friendship comrade"

Nobody can never prove it never didn't not happen. Pretty sure there's can be an authentic recording of a conversation that didn't occur.

People seem to be claiming Trump needs to "prove" he is innocent, or at least give domestic enemies MFM and dimorats a "fair" opportunity to take him out. Dumb.

What day is this? Does Trump still like Assange?

Buford Gooch

There is no reason to wonder why the leftists are going after Trump with everything they have, and everything they can pretend to have. For them, this is truly an existential battle. The general public is onto them, and if they can't put the genie back in the bottle, they are done.
I'm not saying this is a sane approach, just that it explains everything they are doing.

"2. The who subplot on "taping" comes from a Trump tweet that suggested he was recording his conversations with Comey. If he kept his trash talk to himself, we wouldn't be having this melodrama."

Off base without hope for diving back in under the throw.

The tape comment was a gotcha on Comey.

Trump has proof that Comey has been taping the White House.

I'm a betting man who doesn't lose much.

And no, the President will not present evidence to Wolf Blitzer or the New York Times.

The President's MO is to fire off salvos and those, to the press anyway, make him look "mad."

But then he shoots his target in the face at point blank range (ie, former director Comey--- kablooey).

And there hasn't been time for Comey to "transition" out of his office--- he's gone. Bye.

And the interim snake who has stepped in is next. He'll be booted once the director (acting or otherwise) is named and installed. McCabe the Grifter's Husband, the McCauliffe plant... he'll catch one in the face too.

Back to Comey and being "on message"... POTUS is on message with the people he needs to be on message with at the time.

And as far as being on message with Comey? He's on message.

The White House continues to have a rodent problem even since The Rat moved out--- and it is Comey's weaponized FBI cabal.

Trash talk? More like a warning: zip it or you will do time, a-hole.

Let the media fan a flame of its own making.

POTUS is disrupting the river's flow that feeds the swamp. Firing Comey sends a message to all who are connected to Comey's fortunes and who have been relying on several decades of Comey's political cover.

He's gone. And now there is a big patch of sunlight drying up a significant tributary flowing into the swamp.

I don't think POTUS needs to play 4D chess to beat these cockbags. Castle effectively and choose one's defense wisely. Make them make moves.

Clapper and Brennan are gone. Two more tributaries.

Who's next? The what will take care of itself once all the political cover people are isolated and shot in the face.

They had to drag former CIA Director Wooley Booger out of mothballs to chide POTUS' behavior.

Clapper was on with Tapper entertaining JakeOffs tinfoil mutterings.

Momentum: Trump and the American people who "get it."

Then we'll see the Schumer Tumor start to shrivel.

It can be explained more simply buford..

In Wisconsin, ID law proved insurmountable for many voters

MILWAUKEE (AP) — State Sen. Mary Lazich was adamant: The bill Republicans were about to push through the Wisconsin state Senate, requiring that voters present identification at the polls, would do no harm.

“Not a single voter in this state will be disenfranchised by the ID law,” Lazich promised.

Five years later, in the first presidential election held under the new law, Gladys Harris proved her wrong.

By one estimate, 300,000 eligible voters in the state lacked valid photo IDs heading into the election; it is unknown how many people did not vote because they didn’t have proper identification. But it is not hard to find the Navy veteran whose out-of-state driver’s license did not suffice, or the dying woman whose license had expired, or the recent graduate whose student ID was deficient — or Harris, who at 66 made her way to her polling place despite chronic lung disease and a torn ligament in her knee.

She had lost her driver’s license just before Election Day. Aware of the new law, she brought her Social Security and Medicare cards as well as a county-issued bus pass that displayed her photo.

Not good enough. She had to cast a provisional ballot that ended up not being counted.

"Trump as an illusionist, keeping us distracted with little explosions, while he does the tough stuff behind the smoke is an attractive image. I just don't see it as successful, because he's not getting all that winning he needs to make it work."

Appalled, nah, I don't see it that way at all. I don't think the "little explosions" are calculated, I think they are mostly a result of the fact that he hasn't spent his life sucking toes in DC. He's used to saying what he thinks because it's his company - now it's his country.

OTOH I think he plows forward like no other president in my memory. He doesn't really care what the naysayers think, he has work to do. I've never seen a president work this hard in my lifetime, and the results are all over the place (optimism, status on the national stage, lowest unemployment in 28 years, more millenniums getting jobs out of college than ever before, and on and on.) That may not be legislative, but it sure as hell has an effect on the country - a very good effect.

Let's remember that Jim Rutenberg of the failing NYT set the standard last year:

If you’re a working journalist and you believe that Donald J. Trump is a demagogue playing to the nation’s worst racist and nationalistic tendencies, that he cozies up to anti-American dictators and that he would be dangerous with control of the United States nuclear codes, how the heck are you supposed to cover him?

Because if you believe all of those things, you have to throw out the textbook American journalism has been using for the better part of the past half-century, if not longer, and approach it in a way you’ve never approached anything in your career. If you view a Trump presidency as something that’s potentially dangerous, then your reporting is going to reflect that. You would move closer than you’ve ever been to being oppositional.

There's no pretense of objectivity or simply reporting news.

jimmyk, watching the press conference, there is no pretense of intelligence or common sense either.

Jim Eagle

Just a reminder, as we are discussing the media and the democrats in their obsession with Comey and Russia and Special prosecutor: William Randolph Hearst was a Democrat and in fact, a Democrat congressman.

Gorsich in; Brennan,Clapper , Comey and Yates out; wall under construction, criminal illegals out; southern border illegals down to a trickle, employment up, stocks up, oil prodction up, coal miners back to work, ePA cleaned up, regs being shredded, China enlisted to help rein in fatso, and so on and so forth. People who say he;s bogged down, are whistling Dixie.

Tom R---> "the devil don't need no advocate." ;)

But that's a fair request. First, kevlar is strapped on in the event I'm accused of being a tin-foil hat wearing conspiracy theorist.

First, taping? We've been through that arcane expression POTUS uses "taping" "tapping."

Here's my theory: Clapper, al-Brennan, and Obama leveraged intelligence assets (human and techno) to surveil the incoming administration.

Why it's plausible: The Rat left a half-baked budget behind in Congress to hog-tie the admin, was surveilling Trump Towers during the campaign, etc etc etc....

To think the Deep State hasn't made inroads on WH security details is naive.

Giving $400,000,000.00 in various denominations in unmarked bills on pallets flown to Switzerland and then Iraq after hostages were finally released, then lied about as necessary, because we have no "banking Relationship with Iran, then followed by another BILLLLLLION and a HALF sent VIA VOILA!!! a banking relationship....all this without Congressional nor Senate approval, didn't seem to bother these "WORKING JOURNALISTS".

I wonder why JIMMYK.

Tapeworm in WH

But the White House apparently wants the air to remain unclear. When asked about Trump’s “tapes” tweet, White House press secretary Sean Spicer flatly stated that “the president has nothing further to add on that.”

Let’s pause for a second to consider how incredible this new development really is.

First, the president has essentially painted himself into a corner here. Either he has tapes — which, if subpoenaed, his administration must hand over to Congress — or he doesn’t, and he gets caught in yet another absurd false claim.

But it may not be as absurd as it sounds — because it turns out that, as the Washington Post reports, Trump has a history of recording secret conversations.

In fact, people who worked for him usually assumed any chat with him was effectively public. The Wall Street Journal cites three former employees who claim they personally saw Trump tape conversations before he was president. So it looks like the existence of tapes is not out of the realm of possibility.

Second, Trump’s firing of Comey was already drawing comparisons to President Richard Nixon and the Watergate scandal. But rather than try to downplay those fairly damning comparisons, Trump apparently decided instead to publicly suggest that he might have tape recordings of secret conversations in the White House. That’s ... probably not the best way to get people to stop talking about Watergate. After all, it was Nixon’s refusal to turn over his secret tapes to Congress that played a big part in his resignation.

Finally, Trump received bipartisan condemnation regarding his comments as well as bipartisan calls for the tapes to be handed over, if they do in fact exist. Usually, Trump’s outbursts on Twitter or elsewhere are shrugged off by the GOP, but in this case Republicans seem to be as worried as Democrats on the issue.
