Jane

I don't know who Pauline is but I hope she has a good morning.

daddy on iPad

Good Morning!

McConnell: "Regretfully, it is now apparent that the effort to repeal and immediately replace the failure of Obamacare will not be successful. So, in the coming days, the Senate will vote to take up ... a repeal of Obamacare with a two-year delay to provide for a stable transition period to a patient-centered health care system that gives Americans access to quality, affordable health care."

OK by me.

henry

An alternate title: the UN superstate wins again. Wealth must be destroyed shared out by the elite, who keep most of it for themselves in the process.

At this stage, Caligula's horse in the Senate might be an improvement.

Davod

Jane,

Perils of Pauline (1914) (I think the movie includes Pauline being rescued from being tied down on the railroad tracks).

"Young Pauline is left a lot of money when her wealthy uncle dies. However, her uncle's secretary has been named as her guardian until she marries, at which time she will officially take possession of her inheritance. Meanwhile, her "guardian" and his confederates constantly come up with schemes to get rid of Pauline so that he can get his hands on the money himself."

daddy, the talk radio guy here pointed out full repeal requires 60 votes in the Senate. So this is just more "wink, wink, nudge, nudge see, we tried but too many dems."

Need to bury them in commentary that they need to override the 60 vote filibuster on this repeal vote.

Captain Hate

Embarrassing the GOPe works for me.

Man Tran

Per the "organ recitals" last night, Jane and Lyle, don't forget the salt on your bananas. Anonamom's rec has worked wonders around here, mostly for leg cramps. Just got our supply of magnesium yesterday. Looking forward to memory improvement.

Another benefit of not having elected Hillary is that the Senate Repub's would still be lying to us 24/7 about how much they want to Repeal ObamaCare but they can't because they know Hillary would Veto the Bill. Thanks to President Trump their lies are now out in the open for all to see.

danoso

50 votes to get it, 60 to get rid of it?

Sounds all to close to "One man, one vote, one time"

daddy on iPad

Thanks Henry.

Need to bury them in commentary that they need to override the 60 vote filibuster on this repeal vote.

Yep. So has Trump been blamed for the Senate's failure yet?
I'm thinking my new policy may be that I only vote for Rock Stars from here on out.

James D.

daddy, that works out well:

https://mobile.twitter.com/KidRock/status/886995408416886785

I think the GOP could (and almost certainly will) do a heck of a lot worse for a 2018 campaign message.

henry

Daddy, yes. Kristol was on the "Blame Trump" like stink on shit.

Jack is Back!

The "money honey" had Ari Fleischer on the radio while I took the dogs for their morning ritual down Meadow Lane and he said a Repeal now and Replace 2 years later won't work politically. Obamacare is still alive for 2 years and people are smart enough to know that if you can't replace now when you control the Senate and House and POTUS then what makes you think you can in 2 years. More hocus pocus and voters have said for the last 6 years to repeal and replace now.

So it was Mike Lee and Jerry Moran who posioned the well this time. But evidently, Rand Paul was on board. Also, the repeal bill the Senate gave Zippy that he vetoed, had 49 current GOP senators vote for it and Trump can hang that over their heads when McConnell brings it up again this week.

Per the "organ recitals" last night, Jane and Lyle, don't forget the salt on your bananas.
Right painful when it's gritty.

henry

I think at this point Trump / Price should revoke the Congressional exemption from Obamacare. You won't get rid of it, fine. You live with it too.

Marlene

Good Morning! I have a serious question. Does your Congressperson or Senator represent you? Think about a policy issue that is important to you. Taxes, healthcare,a particular social issue? Are you being represented? I think I know the answer and that is why Trump is President. The repeal and replace debacle is Exhibit A of the Uniparty collusion,if you want to talk about collusion. The Republicans didn't want any changes. Oh,they worked so hard and they're giving up two weeks of August recess. Boo Hoo. The Republicans have an opportunity to get legislation done with Trump as President.
Are they going to stand in his way for the rest of his term? Looks that way to me! Sorry for the rant.

We were let down by all of the Democrats and a few Republicans. Most Republicans were loyal, terrific & worked really hard. We will return!

Reality is that "democrats" control the Senate.

Only good news is one of them has a hole in his head at the moment.

BBC TV says it is Trump's fault.

Here's an interesting piece of trivia: Today marks the 100th year anniversary of the British royal family changing their name to Windsor. I wonder why?

Well, it was during the height of WW1 and the German bombers just killed 18 children in a bombing raid on London. King George V feared a backlash since the royal's name then was Saxe-Coburg-Gotha.

Brilliant PR move if you ask me.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

daddym

BBC can go to hell. As you can tell from the 2 tweets above, Trump was blindsided Lee and Moran.

Fox saying it believes it was a protest on how McConnell was handling it.

There has been a senator on this morning on Fox (sorry, didn't catch his name) who said that he has always felt they should get everyone together and hammer it out. Instead, they have had to negotiate one on one with McConnell.

The 2015 "Repeal" bill was actually a full defunding. It didn't take the law off the books.

I am disgusted with the Senate.

daddy

...revoke the Congressional exemption from Obamacare. You won't get rid of it, fine. You live with it too.

Absolutely.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Byron York giving a depressing analysis and saying that Trump hasn't done a full court press.

Why would he when he was told that they had a bill ready to go?

I say haul them all in and read them the riot act. Ari Fleischer was on saying that they have not kept their word and it is obvious to the voters.

Captain Hate

Good Morning! I have a serious question. Does your Congressperson or Senator represent you?

Marcia Fudge and The Restraining Order? NFW. Rob Portman wants to protect Kasich from feeling the budgetary impact of the Medicaid expansion so there's another "No".

Jack is Back!

I know more how British law is enacted than the BBC knows about American legislative action. When I lived there it was jaw-dropping how many times they opened their pie hole and naivety flowed out.

With only a very small majority, the Republicans in the House & Senate need more victories next year since Dems totally obstruct, no votes!

Meanwhile, ZH looks at the House 2018 budget plan.

TL;DR-- 90% fewer cuts than Trump proposed.

RalphL,

They will do it anyway if the dems ever get the majority. The lower number on SC justices was instituted by Harry Reid.

The argument about not setting a precedent is a red herring. Dems will do what they want, regardless of what the Republicans do.

Sadly, the country is saddled with its two main political parties being totally dysfunctional.

The Dems do represent their shrinking base of prog identity groups but have been so captured by the repellent leftwing that their lack of appeal to sane citizens threatens to cause the whole enterprise to wink out of existence. And their policies have become so nutty as to guarantee ennui at best and disaster at worst when in power.

Meanwhile the GOP detests its base and is the equivalent of the gawky teenager who longs more than anything to be accepted by the cool kids. And like so many gawky teens the crowd they think makes up the cool kids subset are the biggest a-holes in school - the Dems; their "friends" across the aisle who would just as soon slit their throats and can't believe that with every swirly they give the GOPe dopes they want even more to be in their club of losers and thieves.

I don't know what the resolution will be but it's not likely to be pretty...or peaceful.

Message sent to Moran:

"Your abandonment of fellow republicans and the President in the effort to begin reversing the disaster that is Obamacare is shameful. I note your written statement contained the phrases "repeal and replace" and "protections for preexisting conditions".

The federal government's track record in managing medical care is atrocious (as the VA system illustrates), and it should play no role in "replacing" Obamacare with anything that keeps the federal government in control of healthcare. The Obamacare "preexisting condition" requirements are the main reason Obamacare is a disaster. Maintaining anything resembling this requirement is what will make any "replacement" an equivalent disaster. Are you personally willing to have your health care regulated by Obamacare? I will be writing Secretary Price to urge that yiour congressional exemption be eliminated.

Kicking the can down the road as your "open legislative process" euphemism suggests, and as Senator McConnell's statement make plain, will not solve anything. If house and senate republicans cannot manage to repeal Obamacare while in control of both houses, how do you expect to do it when no longer in control? This is becoming increasingly likely as the republican electorate that voted for you begins to realize that you are not representing them.

Do not make the great the enemy of the good. Reverse this position and take a meaningful step to fulfilling a promise republicans have been making for years. Act to repeal Obamacare now."

henry

Another Bob... that assumes the Senate Bill as is was repealed anything. If the Cruz amendment wasn't in it, I'm fine with the bill crashing and burning.
