Aaron Judge met and exceeded the seemingly insurmountable hype in the MLB Home Run Derby last night. Key tidbit:
Teixeira, by the way, was another star of the night, clearly showing he deserves more exposure in his rookie season as a broadcaster. He was fun and funny, and early on, he asked Judge the perfect question:
"Can you get over 500 [feet]?"
"I'm going to try for it," Judge said.
And he did. No one else did, but Judge did it four times, going 501, 504, 507 and 513 feet. He hit one off the roof and another one over Marlins Park's home run sculpture in left-center field. He went to left field and to right field. He hit line drives and spectacular towering shots.
He'll be appearing tonight in the All Star Game along with a bunch of other guys no one seems to care about.
I should add that Judge's media training has taken hold.
TM, thank you for all the threads! What's gotten into you?

mm-my understanding from something I read while traveling in CA a while back was that most of the facilities do already exist and that ucla and usc dorms will be the housing for the athletes as well as the media.
It would be a bid that would be ready in time and there would be no ghostly abandoned sites 6 months after the olympics. delta is pouring more than $2 billion into its shift from terminal 5 to terminals 2 and 3, next to the bradley intl terminal.
LAX is the only airport i have been to where an international flight to china is right next to ones going to atlanta or dallas. I would imagine this would also be an excuse to really advance the subway system. I remember travelling out after law school to visit a friend clerking there and there was no subway at all.

That's a good point. We will wait and see what happens.

General Keane was on With Maria Bartiromo a few minutes ago and as usual he is just top notch on all things International regarding Iran, Iraq, the Mosul Victory, North Korea, Trumps options and thinking, and the bad news about the Military C-130 crashing with 16 fatalities. BTW, new FOX News analyst Jason Chafetz was on with Maria and he asked his first question.
I'm too tired to transcribe the General's comments but if the segment shows up later in some linkable video format they're worth listening to.
His main point in the Iraq theater as ISIS is slowly pushed out, is that it will be a huge mistake if we once again pull our troops out of Iraq and let the aggressive Iranians capitalize on the vacuum that will be left if we do leave. He believes that Iran is the most dangerous threat to peace in the region and they would love for us to leave once again like we foolishly did under Obama.

Trump has people unregistering to vote
Democrats both inside the media and out repeatedly lie about illegal aliens and other non-citizens voting in our elections. But now in Colorado -- a state Democrats magically flipped in 2008 -- voters are begging to have their names taken off the registrar, for fear of being caught voting illegally.
.... “Colorado law does not permit the secretary of state, county election officials or anyone else to say, ‘I’m only going to give it to the people I like,’ or, ‘I’m only going to give it to my friends,’ or, ‘I’m only going to give it to the people in my party.’ That is not a provision of Colorado law, nor do you want to put such a provision in place where only favored people can receive that information,” Williams said.

The other thing about the Olympics is that, according to what I've read, it's basically already a done deal that L.A. will get the 2028 games.
So if it's going to happen regardless, President Trump might as well grab some credit for it.
Posted by: James D. | July 11, 2017 at 09:22 AM
As someone who worked on infrastructure and facilities for one World's Fair (Knoxville) and 2 Olympics (LA and Barcelona) it's a fool's errand. LA 1984 the exception only because of Uihlein leadership and our own Ed Keen's ability to find a way to pull it out of purgatory in the last 6 months.
You may think they have the facilities already but that is not the case.
They are dated and need big time upgrades. Just ask yourself why cities in the major league sports constantly tear down 20-25 year old structures such as stadiums and arenas and build new ones?
Plus LA was awarded the Olympics in 1984 by default. Tehran was to have hosted them but we all know why that didn't happen. Reagan was POTUS and had been Gov of California and Tom Bradley was Mayor (not the radical LaRaza currently on board).
Unless you have a financial ROI plan and competent leadership, don't do it.
Off to PT in East Hampton.

Statement From the Office of Donald Trump, Jr.: For Immediate Release to All News Organizations
Also CNN
Mr. Trump, Jr.:
"The meeting I had with the Russian lawyer during the campaign was completely innocent.
We simply discussed my father selling Putin another 20% of America's uranium supplies while I would be giving speeches in Moscow for half-million dollar payments to the Trump Foundation. We hope to reap upwards of $145 million off of all the various permutations of this deal! As usual, it will be approved by the night janitor at the State Department.
Additionally, our campaign manager would become business partners with Putin in the energy business and accept million-ruble payments from Putin. If caught, those assets could be secretly transferred to a family member. And other family members could lobby for Sanctions Relief on behalf of Putin's Sberbank.
We also secretly conveyed a promise to the Russians to be more flexible after the election on missile defenses in Poland.
Furthermore, we cut a secret deal with Putin: if he would help give us political cover with the Iran Deal, and supply our Iranian friends with uranium and missile defenses to protect their nuke factories, we would, in return, allow Russia to run amok in the Middle East and establish military bases there for the first time since America ran them out in 1973.
All these practices--and more!--are all standard, widely-accepted and approved practices in Washington, D.C..
They are completely unremarkable, commonplace collusions and occurrences that require no investigation whatsoever.
In fact, they are the hallmark of Good Government and All That Is Decent, Pure, Good and True(tm).
When Democrats do it."

I didn't put it in the post but when Glenn Beck wrote a book on the Common Core that was just egregiously wrong I looked up his coauthor to see where such bad and irrelevant info could have come from. He had been a public policy major at michigan state and then a legislative aide before moving on to the mackinac center. that was the beginning in my head of a theory that the best way to get progressive policies implemented without outcry was to label them as 'conservative' or market-based.
Anyway when I saw him in particular pushing this Toolkit on top of everyone else it was a major, "well hello there" moment.

Got sent down to Smiln' Albert's office for that. They couldn't believe that moi, the daughter of the jr. high dean of girls, the granddaghter of a 5th grade teacher and the high school government teacher, would be insubordinate!! HA! It was only a percursor to my famous organization of the Great Lunchroom Strike of 1966, when I united the jocks, nerds, and hoods into skipping lunch and bringing it for TWO days (Thursday and Friday) so that they couldn't seve us leftovers!!!
Yeah, well some of you may remember your glory days in sports or as homecoming queen or whatnot. That is MY biggest success!!
I just realized while I was typing this that my father (who was head of township school maintenance) had nicknames for many of the principals and teachers. Smilin' Albert was my dad's name for Albert Theil, who was the principal, and it was based on the nickname the GI';s gave Albert Kessering during WWII.

David Brooks, ever the snob, wrote this as part of today's column:
"Recently I took a friend with only a high school degree to lunch. Insensitively, I led her into a gourmet sandwich shop. Suddenly I saw her face freeze up as she was confronted with sandwiches named “Padrino” and “Pomodoro” and ingredients like soppressata, capicollo and a striata baguette. I quickly asked her if she wanted to go somewhere else and she anxiously nodded yes and we ate Mexican."
This has sent everyone into fits of mockery, and #DavidBrooks is now trending on Twitter.

Dave, his point about zoning and education is reasonable, though the obvious solution of destroying the public school monopoly doesn't seem to occur to him. But the "social" obstacle notion is pretty questionable. It's both both overrated and unoriginal. Dreiser and Fitzgerald made much the same point nearly 100 years ago, and less embarrassingly.
