Back to that Zuckerberg imbecile; he equates government either running a deficit or having a surplus to companies or individuals operating at a loss or profit.
Pardon shit for brains, but it is never the same because in deficit or surplus it is not the government's money and debt bomb or no, there is almost never a personal price to pay for buying votes and otherwise squandering other people's money.

When you think about it most of these tech geeks are not too dissimilar from professional athletes.
Both are usually possessed of an extraordinary and extraordinarily narrow gift which confers on them fabulous wealth when they still haven't the sense to pour piss out of a boot.

For many athletes that means Lamborghinis, sluts and eventual destitution.
For the Zuckerbergs of the world, since their gift usually revolves around suckering dumbasses out of their money with some cybernetic pea and thimble routine, it doesn't mean destitution. It means assuaging their slight guilt by ensuring the suckers get a few crumbs from the table while cementing in place the system that allows the pea and thimble soured curds, rather than the cream, to rise to the top.

In both cases, Buster Browns who couldn't be trusted with a carton of eggs and a roll of toilet paper on Halloween instead have millions and billions of dollars thrust on them and so they do what comes naturally to infantile dolts who have only a vague conception of what behaving like an adult entails.

Daily Caller: "Reporters from The New York Times, CNN, and MSNBC banded together Thursday to complain when NBC News’ Hallie Jackson was cut off after the allowed two questions in Poland. ...Jackson was asking Trump about Obama’s response to Russian interference and why Trump wouldn’t admit Russia was behind election interference given some intelligence agencies have already pegged them as responsible. ...When she tried to go for an additional question, Polish officials cut her off."

It really irks me that they now conflate that sort of pattern recognition with "AI". They have really dumbed down the definition of AI the last 5 years or so, probably because of the marketing failures in pushing "Big Data".

It is dangerous both to the definition of the Human, and to an understanding of the actual strong and weak point of this sort of approach.

(And, I can tell you, that this sort of stuff was doable--and done--quite some time ago.)

There is really too much shoddy thinking, ignorance of the history of AI?Cybernetics, and outright conning going on in AI (and "neuroscience" too).

It is getting difficult to have a rational, informed and civilized conversation about this stuff, even with people who should know better.

The NPR link had this: "He refrained from sharply criticizing Russia for any election interference and instead directed his ire toward former President Barack Obama. Trump said the CIA briefed Obama about election meddling in August of last year, but Obama "did nothing about it." ... "Why did he do nothing from August all the way to Nov. 8?" Trump said, saying the reason was because Obama expected Hillary Clinton to win the presidency."

I didn't see that reference to BOzo in the LAT or
ABC Trump presser-stories. I imagine they're checking with BOzo to see whether he wants to respond of not. If not, they might just leave DT's direct challenge out, which is almost impossible to believe.

CNN did quote DT today on BOzo doing nothing about Russian interference in the election, then went into BOzo-protection mode:

"Obama confronted Russian President Vladimir Putin over election meddling, though, during the 2016 G20 meeting in Hanghzhou, China. Photos of the meeting showed a stern Obama staring down Putin. Obama later revealed that he told Putin "to cut it out" in his meddling in the 2016 election or "there were going to be serious consequences if he did not." The Obama administration also later expelled 35 Russian diplomats from the United States and shuttered Russian compounds in Maryland and New York." ... BOzo waited until Dec. 30 to do that, almost 2 mos. after the election.

rse: no doubt you are right here, but some of it is just a cynical rebranding of a technology in order to make more money.

The Big Data hype (with the attendant "Map->Reduce" tech) failed create a mainstream tech consulting market, mostly because only a select number of firms have the sort of data that might use it, only a smaller percentage of these can actually benefit from this approach, and they WAY over promised,After this failure, this has got rebranded as "AI" or "Deep Learning" in oder to see if this approach can shake more money out of the corporate trees. The rebranding merely substituted neural for "Map->Reduce (or supplemented it with neural networks.
I am sure that there are MIT "AI researchers" who are believers in the project of creating the New Man via education, but I am also sure that there are quite a few--I would say a majority--who just want to find some work and rack up the fees.

Again, most of this is nonsense from an technical, and a broader intellectual point of view; that is not to say is is not deeply damaging, but it is to say that the results will be wholly other than the results they purport to desire.

Here we verge from engineering technique into pseudo science, Scientism, and a purchase on the notions of Mind and Being that is as superficial and sophomoric as it is just plain loopy. It is, as they say, "Programmers without adult supervision".

You really need to get your ideas distilled, clarified and out to a broader audience; this might entail simplify it a bit, but it would be worth it.

Suppose President Trump declared much of California, Nevada and Oregon -- states that just happened to vote against him -- off-limits to economic development and recreational use. Suppose he barred all mining, grazing, agriculture and even camping from these states' federal lands (roughly 46% of California, 85% of Nevada and 53% of Oregon) under a law to preserve national monuments of scientific and historical interest.

According to some environmentalists and legal scholars, we would have to live with this result. They believe a president can permanently designate federal land as a monument and restrict its uses -- even if we're talking about millions of acres (138 million acres in the example above), far removed from any real historical or scientific significance, and over the objections of the states involved.

But a presidential power to create permanent national monuments flies in the face of the plain text of federal law, the conventional relationship between presidents and Congress and historical understandings of executive power. Trump has the right to reverse the national monuments created by previous presidents without an act of Congress, but by the same token, the Constitution creates a check by allowing future presidents to reverse Trump too.
