Rachel Blade and Josh Dawsey of Politico explain Trump's seemingly impromptu announcement on transgender troops:
Inside Trump’s snap decision to ban transgender troops
A congressional fight over sex reassignment surgery threatened funding for his border wall.
After a week sparring with his attorney general and steaming over the Russia investigation consuming his agenda, President Donald Trump was closing in on an important win.
House Republicans were planning to pass a spending bill stacked with his campaign promises, including money to build his border wall with Mexico.
But an internal House Republican fight over transgender troops was threatening to blow up the bill. And House GOP insiders feared they might not have the votes to pass the legislation because defense hawks wanted a ban on Pentagon-funded sex reassignment operations — something GOP leaders wouldn’t give them.
They turned to Trump, who didn’t hesitate. In the flash of a tweet, he announced that transgender troops would be banned altogether.
Team Trump believes the politics are, well, workable:
The president’s directive, of course, took the House issue a step beyond paying for gender reassignment surgery and other medical treatment. House Republicans were never debating expelling all transgender troops from the military.
"This is like someone told the White House to light a candle on the table and the WH set the whole table on fire,” said one senior House Republican aide. The source said that while GOP leaders asked the White House for help, they weren't expecting — and got no heads up on — Trump's far-reaching directive.
While Democrats and centrist Republicans are already blasting the move, one White House official said the decision would be "seen as common-sense" by millions — though likely vociferously protested by others.
"It's not the worst thing in the world to have this fight," the administration official said.
If having sex-change operations is a new civil right than we could pass a Federal program funding that for all eligible citizens (Sorry, undocumented friends!), rather than mandating the burden onto private insurers and, in this case, the Pentagon. But that won't happen.
UPDATE: The NY Times reviews the policy evolution on this under Obama and Trump.

I remain convinced that there is an underground group which coaches these people on how to deal with recruiters, how to game the physicals and tests, and how to approach counselors after completing basic, all in order to game the system for free surgery and medication.
The military doesn't accept diabetics, either, because their medical costs are higher and needing insulin while on a battlefield is a severe detriment to effective operations.

Trump isn't as "nuanced" as some of the snowflakes in the Senate and the House. You ask him to light a candle, he just might use a flamethrower. Get used to it.
And as Miss Marple notes there were many medical conditions (back in the draft days) that would make you 4F and ineligible for service. Flat feet or other types of foot problems meant you weren't going to be much good in the infantry.

Reposting--because I can't keep up with one thread before a new one gets posted (not that I'm complaining, mind you . . . )
One thing about the Awan case. . . They obviously have had him under some kind of surveillance since they were able to get to the airport in time to stop him from fleeing the country. Which in turn suggests that some kind of investigation has been going on under the radar. His attempt to flee might have precipitated his arrest, but they had enough of their ducks lined up get an arrest warrant in time to stop him from leaving the country--which again suggests that there has been some kind of investigation happening for awhile now.
And that what is going on surprised the Deep State yesterday--because DWS would have been given a heads-up for sure if the Deep State had known Awan was about to be arrested, and yet she didn't fire him until the poop had already hit the fan.

An issue wrt trans people is that they will be "special". Since, at least, the Sixties, whichever marginalized group is the flavor of the month can demand and get special treatment, and avoid a certain amount of disciplinary action by claiming or threatening to claim discrimination.
This is prejudicial to good order and discipline.
For example, a redhead who has to be hospitalized due to sunburn because he's never been on a beach south of Seattle and isn't aware how things would go at Myrtle Beach on Memorial Day has made himself unfit for service and is subject to discipline.
A woman who gets pregnant before deployment and thus not deployable is not so subject.

There are 2 Imran Awan's.
The blogger 0hour1 was the first to try and tie the IT guy to the Awan that wrote for CNN but has now admitted they are two different individuals.
If you you have a copy of the Larhore telephone directory you will find 30 pages filled with Imran Awan's. They are the Bill Jones' of Pakistan.

OAN (One America News) is running a decent story hourly on the Awan arrest story. They include comments from a Daily Caller story and the entire story is 10m times as detailed as the AP story that SBW tore apart earlier, but being 10 times more in-depth than that AP non-story is easy.
Here's a bit of their quite in-depth story:
Daily Caller Reporter: ...And that's the weird thing here. We saw that with the DNC as well, where the DNC didn't turn their server over to the FBI. You would think that DWS would say "I can't believe my IT guy was allegedly hacking, I want him prosecuted to the full extent of the Law." Instead, a laptop was separately seized from a House Office Building, and she is blocking the Capitol Police from reviewing it...
They are including the pic of Bill Clinton talking to that Imran Awan I posted the pic of earlier, so maybe that is the correct Imran.

Nice to some jobs coming to Wisconsin. Used to be that most of Apple's product until the late 90's was made in this country and then Terry Guo came along with unlimited money, conveniently nondescript pollution control rules, and free land from the Shenzhen government. Now that one plant has 300,000 employees.
Funny, Foxconn bought the best robots the Japanese made, for whom we were their North American distributor, and copied the lot (not very well).
They are vertically integrated in most of their operations. The Wisconsin plant is window dressing, but at least it's a start.

I still want to make sure credit is given to the former Marine who we read about last week, who supposedly found the hard drives and sensitive stuff that the Awan's left in the house that the Marine was now tenanting, and reportedly he refused to turn the stuff over to the demanding and angry Awan's and instead gave it to the Naval Investigative Service. He may be the only honorable actor in this entire disgusting episode, where everybody else involved, including the Judge who released Imran with an ankle bracelet, should be swinging by the neck from the highest yardarm in Norfolk.

Posted by: Extraneus | July 26, 2017 at 05:42 PM
At some point I read some (confused and confusing) narrative about the hard drives that Awan left at the house. It sounded like the marine called NCIS, who took all of the computer equipment and it was in perfect operating condition when it left with NCIS. And then later it somehow came to be in the possession of the DC police who then handed drives over to the FBI, and the FBI is saying that the drives had been smashed with a hammer or other such weapon. Are these the same drives? Or does the FBI not have the stuff that NCIS took out of the house? (We need Gibbs and Fornell to hit the "halt" button on the elevator and sort this out!)
I love our alt media, but sometimes their lack of education in the writing arts shows. Does anybody else have any clearer idea of the story?

Derwill et al, here's the story of the Marine from the Daily Caller: EXCLUSIVE: FBI Seized Smashed Hard Drives From Wasserman Schultz IT Aide’s Home
Shortly after the criminal probe was revealed in February, Imran abruptly moved out of his longtime home on Hawkshead Drive in Lorton, Va., and listed it for rent on a website that connects landlords with military families.
One of the new tenants — a Marine Corps veteran married to a female Navy Officer — said he found “wireless routers, hard drives that look like they tried to destroy, laptops, [and] a lot of brand new expensive toner.”
The tenants called the Naval Criminal Investigative Service and, not long after, FBI agents arrived together with the Capitol Police to interview them and confiscate the equipment. The Marine spoke on condition of anonymity because of concerns for his wife’s naval career, saying she doesn’t want to be associated with a national security incident.
“It was in the garage. They recycled cabinets and lined them along the walls. They left in a huge hurry,” the Marine said. “It looks like government-issued equipment. We turned that stuff over...”
...The Marine said Imran wanted the hard drives back so desperately that he threatened to sue the renter for stealing them.
“It was unbelievable. I don’t know where they get off thinking they’re going to sue us for items we have no obligation to hold onto,” he said.
Imran came to the house for the items “three to four times,” but the Marine wouldn’t let him enter...
...The Marine expressed disgust with the muted reaction, saying “I served in the Marine Corps for 14 years; if I downloaded files to an offsite server, I’m going to prison for a lot of years.”
He implied he’s a Democrat but said when it comes to national security “political ideology doesn’t matter.”
SEMPER FI!
BTW, The Daily Caller writer of this piece is the guy who appears in the OAN News clips being interviewed about Awan and DWS.
Posted by: daddy | July 26, 2017 at 05:53 PM
That story about the Marine and Awan sounds just a bit too convenient to me. Sounds like part of the ongoing Cold Civil War to me inside our government. Where elements of the Defense Department, starting with General Flynn and Admiral Rogers, have clearly played a major role in saving us from ourselves.

Alls I'm saying is I want to know what was on the DNC computers, what access did the Pakistani Awan bro's have to all that info, what did they download and to whom back in Pakistan, and if there is any evidence of that info being leaked about the time of the Seal Team 6 "accident", then I give moral carte blanche to any Seal Team member who wishes to go "rogue" in hunting down the perps both abroad and Domestic.

Posted by: Porchlight | July 26, 2017 at 02:47 PM
Exactly right, Porchlight, including your assessment of OL bouncing between magical thinking on the one hand and total pessimism on the other (I'm ducking as I write this OL, and I can tell you that you missed DAMMIT!). I have an online friend very reminiscent of OL -- a Bama fan living in Oregon. He's ALSO impatient as all get out:
This is Congress we're talking about, or federal agencies. These things unavoidably take time. Our impatience is warranted, our impatience is understandable, but this is a long, hard battle and -- in all honesty -- it is no place for the impatient who can't hang in there and fight the good fight that must be fought. Some of these comments (e.g., OL, Henry) seem completely obvlivious and disrespectful to the legitimate requirements if you're going to build a legitimate case and do battle with the deep state. It's extremely disappointing.
The President himself is impatient, and that's a good thing. But he has wisely not taken the bait tossed out by many who made a bet that he couldn't restrain himself. He has shown he definitely can while still advancing the fight and encouraging his subordinates to advance as fast as possible.
My mantra remains, faith and patience.

I don't believe it Porch, but I do know, having spent a year in the Military Recruiting racket, that when DC decides they want a certain number of Gender, Ethnic, Racial, or whatever else recruited, they remove and/or reduce the standards that other potential candidates have to pass, and they issue quotas for their new preferred variety of candidate. They do it racially all the time, they have done it sexually in the past, and it would not surprise me one bit if some directive has comedown via recruiting command to specifically fill a quota of X amount of transgender whatevers.
When things like that happen a point system is created where suddenly you are awarded huge numbers of points if you can enlist a candidate of this new preferred variety. The Recruiting commands are runoff a Competition basis that is how CO"s and XO's move on up, and how the Recruiters, whether Junior Officers or Enlisted Recruiters, and evaluated in their Annual Fitness Reports which results in promotion or non-promotion etc. It is an initially sensible idea gone horribly awry due to the corruption of the policy makers in DC.
Simply look at Joe Biden's overage and drug addicted son's basically illegal appointment as a Naval Intel Officer to see how easy the guidelines can be modified and discarded by Political folks with agendas.

Jane,
Even the head shrinkers, for the time being, have the honesty to call gender dysphoria a mental disorder of some type.
Should we really be giving people howitzers who want someone to whack their peepee off and who experience other mental problems and commit suicide at a vastly higher rate than the populace in general?
The government is trying to "get into the whole transgender thing" and Trump and Mattis are trying to keep it out of it.
If a person is suffering from some type of mental problem due to a heterosexual issue he or she ought to be bounced also.

Why are people having to become citizen journalists anyway? Why do we have to speculate on so many things?...because the MFM do such a lousy job.
Janet, You obviously didn't listen to John McCain yesterday:
McCain: ...Stop listening to the bombastic loud mouths on radio and television and the Internet. To hell with them. They don't want anything done for the Public Good. Incapacity is their livelihood...
You should just quit listening to Talk Radio, and quit listening to Lou Dobbs, and quit reading stuff on the Internet. All you need to know will be provided to you by ABC, NBC, CBS and the NYTimes, so go ahead and renew your subscription to the WaPo and get out there in the morning early before Bernie Sanders steals it.

I have two questions about the Awan clan:
1) I keep reading the wife and children of Inran are back in Pakistan. What about the 2 brothers? Where are they? Maybe Trey Gowdy knows?
2) Didn't we have a discussion about how the younger brothers were making 6 figures and were quite young? Yet they were declaring bankruptcy?
oops - one more - did they let the wife continue on with the $12,000 in cash that was in a cardboard box? Did she have to surrender it before she could leave? If not, could you or I do the same? (rhetorical)

RG - any idea what these "fraudulent diplomatic passports" Webb indicates the IT boys received? the guy's attorney states they are US citizens.
also, the Daily Caller research paints a picture of these guys doing absolutely anything - anything - for a buck. it seems likely to me, then, that they'd (a) steal and sell any info they were able to get, and (b) sell it to anyone that would pay (including Wikileaks or ISI or the Iraqi hezbollah-linked guy who gave them $100K, or the MB). i see them as actors Brennnan et al may have tolerated, rather than Agency assets per se.

Some guy from Cleveland is filling in for Larry Elder.
Bob France.
Not sure if I'm going to rip him a new one or not. He sounds like a fair weather fan of Trump's.

occam says sleazy opportunist grifters like these would not hesitate to cash in on this, for example:

janet - didn't you hear what John Boehner said? THAT is the problem right there!
“What’s making everything even worse today is because we have so much news, people get to choose where they get their news,” Boehner said, according to the Post. “It used to be we had three big TV networks, five big newspapers, and five big radio stations and whatever they said was the news. Everybody else followed what they do.”

video on the how-to - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-3346063/How-surgeons-perform-sex-change-Eye-watering-animation-reveals-stage-man-woman.html
also this bit on aftercare - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4398858/Caitlyn-Jenner-underwent-gender-reassignment-surgery.html
"There is then a long period of maintenance following the surgery, which requires between four and six weeks of recovery.
Patients spend at least three days in the hospital and two weeks doing no activity that is in any way strenuous.
The body initially treats the vaginoplasty like a wound, meaning that dilation must be performed by the patient so their vagina does not close up.
This is done in most cases with a dildo or dilator, and for the first three weeks must be done three to four times a day for 15 minutes each time.
Daily dilation ends after week 12 in some cases, but after that the new organ must be dilated at least once a week for the remained of the patient's life.
Other doctors recommend daily dilation for the rest of the patient's life, using the largest dilator they can comfortably fit in their vagina."
So some guys in our military will be paid to stick dildos in their new gaping wounds?

Here's the Mark Steyn link again on the Awan arrest for those who missed it: Flight and Fancy
Mr Awan's counsel says his client has been arrested for "working while Muslim". That line's so desperate it's bound to take off big-time.<
...The Awans' services were so critical that in March last year eight Democrat members of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence issued a letter demanding that these staffers be granted access to Top Secret Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI)...
Nice work if you can get it,
and you can get it
if you're a Pakistani National but not an American.

The "new organ" grinder...
Posted by: Threadkiller | July 26, 2017 at 07:45 PM
If I was Pakistan I would help smuggle Awan out, then when the US belatedly ho-hummed about extraditing him back to the states I'd charge a nice round fee of 1 Billion. Or maybe 2 billion.
Ah, what the hell, 3 Billion.
Posted by: daddy | July 26, 2017 at 07:48 PM
IMO, the House Paki IT people had access to everything that is classified, except possibly the beyond Top Secret stuff.
"No way it is 15K." IMO Jane's numbers seem a lot more accurate.

Exdem, thanks for the post on Tillerson cleaning out the embassy security group ar state. The needed to clear that Benghazi stench out. Long slog to clean the stables there, they need to shoot first and forget asking questions -- don't delay moving to the next group.

The great irony is that the plastic surgery techniques required were developed after the horrors of WW1 to rebuild disfigured faces. You've come a long way, baby!

agreed, daddy, but fyi his lawyer says he's a US citizen.

i agree, Henry. i also think that the tiresome and arcane federal hiring procedures can't be helping. when i looked at the DOJ some time back it made my brain hurt.

Gregg Jarrett to Trish Regan, sitting in for Lou Dobbs, (who McCain does not want you listening to):
Trish:..Could Awan be at all connected to what we saw over the summer, with all the E-Mails leaking out from the DNC?
Jarrett: It would be an incredible coincidence if he wasn't involved. Here you have the DNC Hacked, allegedly by the Russians. But one begins to wonder was it really the Russian? Julian Assange has always said "No", it wasn't the Russians, it not come from a country, a state, or a Government, which leads one to believe it came from an individual, and here is a guy who was allegedly uploading sensitive information to the Cloud, and downloading to a remote server, important information, apparently from the DNC and other Democrat., And DWS was clamming up, and refusing to hand over her password to her laptop, now all of a sudden doing an about face, I suspect because the Feds sat her down and said "You start giving us what we're asking for or it's Obstruction of Justice."
Don't know if I buy that last, but thought I'd put it out there as a possibility. 0hour1 or whoever did say we might get hints of stuff tonight.

"A TS/SCI clearance for a Pahkeestahni National?"
I always tell my kids with all this push to STEM and 'coding', use what you got, you're a US citizen, a Paki can code but he can't get a clearance. So ...WTF??
