This is not the news with which we want to open football training camps:
110 N.F.L. Brains
A neuropathologist has examined the brains of 111 N.F.L. players — and 110 were found to have C.T.E., the degenerative disease linked to repeated blows to the head.
Dr. Ann McKee, a neuropathologist, has examined the brains of 202 deceased football players. A broad survey of her findings was published on Tuesday in The Journal of the American Medical Association.
Of the 202 players, 111 of them played in the N.F.L. — and 110 of those were found to have chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or C.T.E., the degenerative disease believed to be caused by repeated blows to the head.
Eventually they discuss the obvious selection bias issue:
The set of players posthumously tested by Dr. McKee is far from a random sample of N.F.L. retirees. “There’s a tremendous selection bias,” she has cautioned, noting that many families have donated brains specifically because the former player showed symptoms of C.T.E.
But 110 positives remain significant scientific evidence of an N.F.L. player’s risk of developing C.T.E., which can be diagnosed only after death. About 1,300 former players have died since the B.U. group began examining brains. So even if every one of the other 1,200 players had tested negative — which even the heartiest skeptics would agree could not possibly be the case — the minimum C.T.E. prevalence would be close to 9 percent, vastly higher than in the general population.
Can Coca Cola and the NFL endure another fifty years?
TM, you should see the paperwork that comes my way under the NCAA athlete concussion settlement talks. Lawyers gotta get rich. Selection bias helps them do so.

The Senate -- including prominent Republicans like @marcorubio -- is trying to block Clinton investigation. Shameful
“It harkens back to the notion of a banana republic,” Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said of what he called Trump’s “inappropriate” calls for investigations into Clinton. “It’s what dictators do, they look to punish their enemies.”
Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., a Senate Intelligence Committee member, noted that Clinton’s missing emails as secretary of state were investigated by the FBI. As a result, he said, there appears to be no need to reopen the case.
"As for me, I prefer to look to the future, not the past," Rubio said of Trump’s tweets agitating for Clinton investigations. “It’s time to move on."

Seen on a blog, doubtless an oldie but new to me:
A gentle Texas lady was driving across a high bridge in Austin As she neared the top of the bridge, she noticed a young man ‘fixin’ to jump.
She stopped her car, rolled down the window and said, “Please don’t jump! Think of your dear mother and father.”
He replied, “My mom and dad are both dead; I’m going to jump.”
She said, “Well, think of your sweet wife and precious children.
He replied, “I’m not married, and I don’t have any kids.”
She said, “Well then, you just “Remember the Alamo .”
He replied, ”What’s the Alamo?”
She exclaimed, ‘’Well, bless your heart! You just go ahead and jump .. you little Yankee Democrat Bastard… You’re holding up traffic!”

The difference that I sense now is based on the grit and actions of President Trump. His hiring of someone like Scaramucci was a bold act. The Democrats and swamp dwellers have overplayed their hand. If the word on the President is true, he will respond forcefully. DWS is the linchpin and needs to be shaken and stirred. With her brother in charge of things in DC, she will probably get off. I'm not holding my breath. I would have bet big money that Lois Lerner was headed for the big house.

Cap'n, from the title alone, I'm guessing that book may touch on some of the same themes Carducci explored, such as the blatant elitist exploitation of poor and working class folk musicians - and not in the conventional manner of the liberal "rock and roll ripped off the blues" narrative.
Thank you for the rec.
Btw, the Carducci book must have hit a nerve, because last I checked it was out of print and hard to find. To his credit, Rollins reissued it on his imprint in the 90s. It was one step on my conservative redpilling journey in that decade.

Just out of curiosity, since Sessions recused himself
from Russia and the Trump campaign plus obstruction
and Mueller is investigating all of the above. Does that
mean any conversation that Trump has with Sessions,
past, present and future could become part of Mueller's
Investigation?
If that is true, Trump has no way to communicate with his AG,
other than twitter. Added to this is the fact that during the
confirmation hearing Sessions said he would not investigate
Hillary.
Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley asked Sessions if he could be impartial in any investigations into Hillary Clinton’s emails or foundation, given his role in Donald Trump’s campaign. Sessions said no, and that he would recuse himself if any Clinton issues were to arise with him as attorney general. “I do believe that that could place my objectivity in question,” he said of statements he made during the campaign. “I believe the proper thing for me to do would be to recuse myself.”
No wonder why Trump wants Sessions gone.

You're right on point. Sessions effectively placed himself at the head of one of the most important cabinet positions with no accountability to his boss, the President. It's a situation that cannot stand and for that alone he should do the honorable thing and resign.
