All the best to you, Dave (in MA), as you attempt to keep matters under control today. I won't be there to help. I fled to Quebec Province (actually, I'm on a vacation planned well before the Boston proceedings were scheduled).
Do I get sent to a reeducation camp if I start referring to the Boston baseball franchise as the Yawkeys?
What I love about Trump is the more they demonize him the more mud he slings right back to them.
The Peconic Diner only has NBC & Today on. How can anyone stand the obvious bull phooey they breathlessly project. Another reason to visit JOM and often.
Good Morning! This is very cool...the Univ. of Maine High Altitude Ballooning group are part of the NASA sponsored Great American Eclipse project on Monday. The Maine group is part of 50 other groups in the path of the eclipse. The Maine group will be at Clemson in SC to capture a unique angle of the eclipse. The balloons will be 110,000 feet and will capture a unique angle. We are acquainted with one of the young men on the Maine team,we attended his Eagle Scout ceremony last summer. I talked to his mother on Thursday and she is so excited that her son is part of the project. The balloon project will be on a NASA livestream during the eclipse.
Sasse expressed concern about those whom the president listens to, advising him to stoke further racial division.
"Besides ability and temperament, I also worry that national unity will be unlikely because there are some whispering in the President's ear that racial division could be good politics for them," Sasse said.
I nearly had an aneurysm reading that, thinking the obvious "What about every Democrat everywhere than needs an energized (ie, angry) black base to remember to vote?"
But in FB he had written this:
"8. Besides ability and temperament, I also worry that national unity will be unlikely because there are some whispering in the President's ear that racial division could be good politics for them.
9. I worry that some on the left are also going to salivate over these divisions. Like the President's ear-whisperers, they see a divided nation as good for their political objectives.

So what did Sassehole do in his distinguished political career that allows him to position himself as the great uniter besides dish up piles of steaming self congratulatory mush? He sounds like a younger version of Katshit with a better haircut.
It’s been 17 days since I had emergency back surgery to heal spinal osteomyelitis, a serious disease affecting the spine and nervous system.
Thanks to quality private insurance and access to one of the best neuro surgeons in the world we are going into the third week of this fight gaining the upper hand.
It took four and a half days for the administrative medical staff to assemble the right specialists for diagnosing the problem, establishing surgical priorities, executing those defined objectives to standard while ensuring post-operative care met standards.
The pain management challenge was formidable, to say the least. Being on the receiving end of this trial and error process was quite “trippy” at times complete with momentary lapses into suicidal cul-de-sacs where no one in charge intentionally parked me. Within 8 days the medical team cracked the pain management code most suited to my metabolism, psychology, respiratory, and vascular health.
I’ve never known pain like that before. Until my admission on July 29th I was unable to situate myself comfortably in any position, sleep, eat, or, communicate. Once admitted and shot up with morphine for pain at eleventy, I passed into a weird suspension of any sense of time or space. My wife and both sons were critically important to keeping hospital staff on track. Wouldn’t have made it without their vigilance.
For the most part day-time staff was competent. The night shift not so much. We have a serious language problem in this country. Of course the higher echelon jobs require a higher language fluency standard be met--- but there were plenty of staff who were telling me that if they had to choose a hospital to land in for treatment, the one I was in wouldn’t be there first choice--- unless I could get onto the 6th floor.
I was on the fourth floor until surgery. Following surgery, my surgeon had me placed in the best room in the hospital--- because it was clean. The risk of reinfection *while still in the hospital* was too high. Incredible--- night and day difference in terms of hygenics, staffing, nutritition, and routine care.
The surgery focused on removal of a pocket of infection (strep) which had completely jacketed the C4 vertebrae. Having covered the outward facing surface of the bone, the abcess had begun to insinuate itself around the “underside” of the vertebrae where it was in direct contact with the spinal column or channel.
While soaking the bone with abscess the jacket had begun to grow enough mass so there was increasing pressure on the spinal cord itself which kept the pain level ratcheted sky-high. It took two long uncomfortable MRIs to get a clean read on the exact dimensions and reach of this jacket of abscess. But once they nailed it down with a clear image, the surgical team cleared it out over a 12 hour period.
I never lost mobility although my range of motion was limited by the amount of pain even the slightest twist would bring on. In fact, when I came out of surgery I jumped up out of my bed and took the orderly into a choke hold asking if he had been down in Panama “once the blast went off”. The only thing that got me off of him was me seeing a smiling patient being wheeled off from the post-op area waving to me. Somehow I thought I’d seen her “down there” during the attack and that I’d thought I’d lost her. I went running half naked down the hallway trying to talk to her.
That display brought the surgical team scrambling back to my area for more sedation. They didn’t think I’d walk again. The amount of infection was not looking good for me. Once the sedation wore off the team had me moving with support. My back hurt plenty but I could move everything. Most importantly, I could walk under my own power.
I’m on six more weeks of IV anti-biotics during daily visits to a nearby outpatient care facility. My incision is healed. My family doctor is satisfied with my blood pressure, blood sugar and other vital signs and is of the opinion that I should make a full recovery. We’ve reduced pain medication consumption from the peak of 380mg per day down to 170mg. Yesterday I was able to get by on 120mg. Oxycontin is no joke. Pain is still significant.
However, it isn’t the pain as much as anxiety around feeling pain is my adversary. As long as I can keep anxiety at bay I can handle a fair amount of pain. So, the trick has been to take smaller doses more frequently to run out the clock on the pain. I’m sleeping 12 hours and keeping dosages small so I stay lucid and clear. Clarity and lucidity keep me from feeling disoriented and isolated, which trigger isolation. It works.
Writing this is a challenge. Maintaining a stream of thought is still difficult to do. Work is piling up. My business partner’s health is collapsing quickly. And there is much to do in order to shore up everything needed to be accomplished by year’s end. My other associates in the travel business and financial services areas where we just expanded are taking up the slack. Although I still retain their confidence, I’d like to get back to normal as soon as is practicable.
The gravity of this health ambush has been greatly understated. So I’ve made it a point to have my surgeon contact my key partners to explain in detail what I’ve come through, what I’ve survived, and what my prospects are for coming back to 100 per cent.
The medical team is as surprised by my recovery progress as they were surprised by being one of the 2 out of 10,000 individuals tagged with this malady every year. They still don’t have a theory as to how the strep accessed the C4 nor can they explain how the infection “jacketed” the vertebrae so perfectly.
And now that I am walking and moving fully under my own power, it is a story they enjoy telling at our request in order to boost confidence about the future among our leadership team.
Thank you all for your prayers and kind words. I’ve been tempered a bit by this mysterious undoing of my well-being. Why me? Why now? Who knows? There is something bigger at work here---- just like there is something bigger at work in our Country.
Live to fight another day? Sure thing. I’ll take it. One thing is for sure----- I want to win.
Charlottesville, VA fiasco as indictment against POTUS' leadership while Mayor and Governor slither on past reminds me of Governor Landrieu and Mayor Nagin down in NOLA during Katrina.
Same playbook.
I wonder what training manual newly elected RINO congressmen and women use to learn how to perform on cue the requisite circus tricks which prove to the "opposition" that they are tame and politically impotent, ready to be used and rolled.
Absolutely sickening how conformist this behavior is. Who enforces this behavioral code? And who exacts punishment against any free-thinkers who want something more than to acquiesce with scumbags like Governor Bag Man McAuliffe.
To think we are stuck with Clinton Toilet Bowl residue like that miscreant is a bit too much for me to bear this morning.
Lock him up. Nagin got his in the end didn't he?
Can't someone go to jail over the death of the two highway patrolmen who died in the chopper crash?
One of the many problems with a jerk like Sassehole is he plays by the left's rules.
In our present nutjob age, equally condemning violent insane totalitarians means you are racially divisive.
If you assume the shameless, Marxist, Goebbelsian lie that antifa and BLM are not disgusting communists but in fact perhaps slightly too enthusiastic anti-racists bravely fighting bigotry, or more accurately just innocently standing around with baseball bats and masks when attacked by bigots, like say Barry did then you are being racially healing.
And the proof is how much more warm and cozy our nation is after eight years of the big cuddly, smartest guy ever. ::eye roll:: h/t Sue.
Wow - forgive for commenting first on the writing. A riveting account of your experience. Prayers for quick healing and continued spiritual well being.
Kev - Reinforcement is the usual high school popularity thing. Say the right things, and success, popularity and money fall into your lap. The left has pretty much owned ALL of the academic, press, and political fields for 50 years.
I bet if one of these "ultra right" rallies were to have speakers reading Obama's speeches - changing the inflection from Obama's hypnotic sing-song, they'd still be attacked by the counter protesters.
Shouldn't the proper response of the Dems and the media to Charlottesville have been to cry out that WASPs follow the religion of peace on earth, goodwill toward man, Christianity, and not all right wingers are violent radicals?
Shouldn't they even now be warning against the inevitable violent backlash against the millions of peaceful law abiding white people?
Shouldn't PBS be rerunning Ken Burns seminal series on the contributions of caucasians to America?
at about 4:30 in the video .the permitted group is forced to leave the permitted area. They are forced to exit right into the antifa crowd. Who thought THAT was a good idea?
Would one of you kind people give me an explanation of why Bannon gave "insider interview" to a reporter? I don't know why any one in Trump's administration would have anything to do with a member of the press. Anyway, I would appreciate it. At first I didn't believe it when I read about it. I didn't think Bannon should be giving an interview to any reporter. Anyway, that's just my opinion.
Posted by: joan | August 18, 2017 at 06:33 PM
Joan, I presume someone answered this but this David Goldman / Spengler column in Asia Times is my take on why Bannon would:
Trump said he would teach the Republican Party how to win; the interview with a leftwing writer, in the aftermath of Charlottesville, was part and parcel of that teaching process.
Trump will reach out to Democratic voters who are alienated from a leadership that has devoted most of its energy to a radical social agenda instead of bread-and-butter solutions, and he will [appeal] to a majority of his own party. I do not know whether he will succeed; if he does, the self-inflicted wounds to the erstwhile arbiters of American opinion will be fatal.
Allow me to use a Game of Thrones phrase: for the Democrats . . . winter is coming. Winter = Realignment. The identity politics game could only work for as long as white people were consistently hynotized into believing they had to apologize, apologize, apologize. Trump essentially said fuck that. Result? Game over. If, that is, you know how to win. The President has exposed to all of us that many in Congress on our political side (nominally or actually) don't know how to truly win.
Check this out:
It's very sad that Republicans, even some that were carried over the line on my back, do very little to protect their President.
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 23, 2017

I suspect Bannon is about to unleash holy hell upon them; that should seriously help with the learning process.
What galls me most about anti-Trumpers Murkowski, Collins, and Sasse is very few people put them there. AK and ME only have 2 electoral votes for goodness sake, NE only 5. Romney can't shut up and UT only has 6 electoral votes. By comparison GA has 16 electoral votes- 16 Congress peeps, none of them nationally known except John Lewis from his civil rights days and Hank Johnson from his "Guam could tip over" idiocy. Ugh.
Just saw the crowd in Boston getting ready to march. It looks like thousands marching against the rally organizers on the common. I saw backpacks and masks and can't believe the BPD is allowing bacpacks and masks after the marathon bombing
Captain -- What do you, me, and Senator Kamala Harris have in common?
We all believe in the core value that we all do better when we all do better.
We're all working to protect progress and hold this administration accountable for its despicable words and actions.
And we could all be together next month.
I'll be attending a reception with my friend Senator Harris in Columbus on September 8th. You and a friend could win the chance to join us.
If you give $5 or more, you'll be automatically entered to win a trip to Columbus to join Senator Harris and me and also get a photo with us.
Of course, contributing to this campaign isn't all about entering the contest.
Team Sherrod has a lot of important work coming up. The fight to preserve net neutrality is coming to a head. Tax reform and the budget are coming up in Congress. And don't forget that our race in Ohio is one of the most competitive -- and therefore, probably one of the most expensive -- in the country.
Whether you win the trip or not, your contribution is incredibly important.
We'll cover your airfare, hotel, and transportation. All you need to do is pick someone you want to owe you a huge favor and ask them to come. It's that simple.
Give $5 or more and you'll be automatically entered to win.
Thank you for all of your support. And best of luck!
Just another triple standard, deb, remember Alaska didn't matter then though it supplies 20% of our domestic supply, with the huntress, with veruca salt, its the second coming if Margaret chase Smith.
The left is in Roxbury, which is odd. The crowd is growing fast. No word on what is going on in the Common (there is no "S"). I hope Dave checks in. I'd be with him if I could.
I thought about going down there. It's a fun, easy trip. Take the Amtrak Downeaster, bingo, no muss, no fuss. Should be pretty well covered with cameras though. I think the lefties have started their march. Anybody know a cheer for the Yankees or NY Giants?
Well, protests or not, it's another beautiful day in creation.
Building on my suspicion that Thomas Wictor [caveat: yes, he has some apparent weirdness to him] is an Operator of some sort or another for one of the good guys (and, perhaps, *the* good guy) in this battle we're engaged in, I offer this nugget to those of us easily disposed to seek shelter on some damn ledge somewhere. It is offered in an until proven otherwise kind of way (meaning: try it, you may like it) for those who have less faith in our Commander-in-Chief to successfully win this war than in the ability of the deep state to thwart any and all attempts to fix us:
The Administration is using recognizable military tactics and strategies
(6) Trump, Bannon, Kushner, and of course McMaster and Flynn are using recognizable military tactics and strategies.
Phase 0: Shape the Environment. This phase involves those joint interagency and multinational activities conducted on an ongoing, routine basis to assure or solidify friendly relationships and alliances and/or deter potential adversaries.
Phase 1: Deter the Enemy. This phase focuses on deterring specific opponents by demonstrating the capability and resolve to apply force in pursuit of U.S. interests. These actions will likely build upon Phase 0 activities and may include a show of force or initiatives that would facilitate deployment, employment, and sustainment of additional forces within the region.
Phase 2: Seize the Initiative. Hostilities commence during this phase. Combat power is applied to delay, impede, halt, or dislodge the adversary as well as to gain access to theater infrastructure and enhance friendly freedom of action. Concurrently, assistance is provided to relieve conditions that precipitated the crisis in order to promote stability.
Phase 3: Dominate the Enemy. The focus during this phase is on the exploitation, pursuit, and destruction of the enemy in order to break the opponent’s will for organized resistance. Stability operations will also be conducted as needed to facilitate transition to the next phase.
Phase 4: Stabilize the Environment. The priority during this phase will be on stability operations, the reconstitution of infrastructure, and the restoration of services. This phase concludes with the transfer of regional authority to a legitimate civil entity.
Phase 5: Enable Civil Authority. Legitimate civil authorities are enabled in their efforts to provide essential services to the populace. These activities include required coordination activities by U.S. military forces with multinational, interagency, and non-governmental organizations while promoting a favorable attitude among the populace toward U.S. and host nation objectives.

Faith and patience, my friends, faith and patience. Because now is the time for all good men and women to come to the aid of our country. #TrumpStrong
"The rally" being some perimeter the cops have set up. Obviously, that's not the whole of the Common or the lefties assembly and march. The lefties are whipping themselves into a frenzy. There is a word for that ...
LOL - "sounds like they are chanting to a non-existent group" The chant is "Nazis off our street." Good point though. A guy with a camera was asking a CNN reporter to show him a neo-nazi. The left is going to have to import their own snipe for this hunt.
"This needs to be shut down" says one liberal. The rally is a "free speech" rally. Can't have that! Funny listening to the liberals talk among themselves. Confused. Baseball is a couple hours away. TM could have a sort of double-header. do the rally for game one ...
Checking in. Came in the house for a break and because my friend mentioned the CEOs who left the council and her son was talking about how great it was that Warren Buffet auctions lunch with him and donates the money. I said I wouldn't pay a nickel to him and when asked why I said becausr I am on the other side.
A few guys show up with a Trump sign or something. They are getting physically and verbally hassled. New chant, "no violence" peppered "get out of out f*$!ing town" and "go home" and "not welcome."
LOL - New cheer, really gets 'em going, "F*$! Trump"
Video showing cops frisking people who want to go into the rally. Not many going in, no waiting that's for sure. Counter protesters are hostile, but not physical yet.
First again? Good morning Bahstun!

Following from a previous thread, Sen Ben Sasse made a lot more sense on Facebook than in the cited press coverage.
From the WashEx, and commented here:

But in FB he had written this:

Singer and McAuliffe aren't merely incompetent. They designed the battlefield to INSURE physical contact between groups hostile to each other.
Use of violence to advance political aspirations is as old as the hills. The perpetrators ALWAYS disclaim responsibility.
These days, the perps and the press are playing on the same team. Of course the perps will get a pass from their own referee.

The Archbishop of Strasbourg Luc Ravel, nominated by Pope Francis in February, just declared that "Muslim believers know very well that their fertility is such today, that they call it... the Great Replacement. They tell you in a very calm, very positive way: One day all this, all this will be ours...".
And in a generation they'll make it look like Raqqa does today.

Joan, I presume someone answered this but this David Goldman / Spengler column in Asia Times is my take on why Bannon would:
http://www.atimes.com/unintended-consequences-charlottesville/
* * *

Ugh.

The Restraining Order, Kabbalah and me:
With gratitude,
Sherrod

Continuum of Military Operations
Dominate the Enemy
https://stuffiwish.wordpress.com/2010/09/26/six-phases-of-the-continuum-of-military-operations/

LOL - "sounds like they are chanting to a non-existent group" The chant is "Nazis off our street." Good point though. A guy with a camera was asking a CNN reporter to show him a neo-nazi. The left is going to have to import their own snipe for this hunt.
