Has the political climate changed in Washington? A new report on climate change is circulating for government approval. It has the sort of message Obama or Hillary would love, but Trump and EPA chief Scott Pruitt might engage in heated debate. Time will tell.
Government Report Finds Drastic Impact of Climate Change on U.S.
By Lisa Friedman Aug 7, 2017
Since you ask, no - the word "drastic" does not appear in the report.
WASHINGTON — The average temperature in the United States has risen rapidly and drastically since 1980, and recent decades have been the warmest of the past 1,500 years, according to a sweeping federal climate change report awaiting approval by the Trump administration.
The draft report by scientists from 13 federal agencies, which has not yet been made public, concludes that Americans are feeling the effects of climate change right now. It directly contradicts claims by President Trump and members of his cabinet who say that the human contribution to climate change is uncertain, and that the ability to predict the effects is limited.
“Evidence for a changing climate abounds, from the top of the atmosphere to the depths of the oceans,” a draft of the report states. A copy of it was obtained by The New York Times.
The authors note that thousands of studies, conducted by tens of thousands of scientists, have documented climate changes on land and in the air. “Many lines of evidence demonstrate that human activities, especially emissions of greenhouse (heat-trapping) gases, are primarily responsible for recent observed climate change,” they wrote.
And the politics?
The report was completed this year and is a special science section of the National Climate Assessment, which is congressionally mandated every four years. The National Academy of Sciences has signed off on the draft report, and the authors are awaiting permission from the Trump administration to release it.
...
The E.P.A. is one of 13 agencies that must approve the report by Aug. 18. The agency’s administrator, Scott Pruitt, has said he does not believe that carbon dioxide is a primary contributor to global warming.
“It’s a fraught situation,” said Michael Oppenheimer, a professor of geoscience and international affairs at Princeton University who was not involved in the study. “This is the first case in which an analysis of climate change of this scope has come up in the Trump administration, and scientists will be watching very carefully to see how they handle it.”
Scientists say they fear that the Trump administration could change or suppress the report. But those who challenge scientific data on human-caused climate change say they are equally worried that the draft report, as well as the larger National Climate Assessment, will be publicly released.
'...concludes that Americans are feeling the effects of climate change right now.'
Bullshit.
p.s., Feelings. Nothing more than feelings. Trying to forget my...

From TM's link: One government scientist who worked on the report, Katharine Hayhoe, a professor of political science at Texas Tech University, called the conclusions among “the most comprehensive climate science reports” to be published. Another scientist involved in the process, who spoke to The New York Times on the condition of anonymity, said he and others were concerned that it would be suppressed.
This is a joke, right?

Since I'm watching Perry Mason this very second I guess it's an appropriate time to post this breaking story from Gateway Pundit on Seth Rich's Murder: BREAKING: Investigator Believes Donna Brazile is a ‘Person of Interest’ in Seth Rich Murder Case

Since this breaking story appears to be based on even shakier sources than tonights Perry Mason episode, my guess is this will go nowhere fast, but young Barbara Eden makes a fetching femme fatale:

So Rich (or anyone else so inclined), humor me on this assertion you've made. Team Mueller will not stop until they find a Trump Administration scalp, huh? Okay. For the sake of argument, point accepted.
So damn what ???<<<
Yes I said fan fiction. I'll defend it too. I cannot imagine how someone would run a conspiracy-to what end-to have his associates and family investigated by anything located in DC or Northern Virginia. So he can give them Christmas pardons?
It goes back to OL's banging drum. The Trump Administration is losing momentum, losing the initiative, and getting bogged down in the Swamp game.
He can exercise leadership over the Congress. Vice President Pence is the President of the Senate. He has a whole Legislative Affairs department at the White House. Call them into session and make an issue of tax reform or regulatory reform or immigration reform. Call in a dozen or so Reps from both parties of districts he won-hold rallies there. He has chips on the table for all three-China trade sanctions, weak dollar/strong dollar, international financial sanctions, immigration, dirt digging [i'll leave this bit of tinfoil haberdashery out] ...
... from my perspective, not everything he is doing is some sort of 4-d chess.

GUS,
The frustrating thing for me as a Perry Mason freak, is that none of these self evident crimes we've been continuously witnessing for the last 8 years by corrupt Government Officials ever get prosecuted, nor do the perps ever get indicted, much less put in jail. If they were to make a new Perry Mason episode based on the Seth Rich murder, or the Awan Brothers scam, or The Tarmac chat, or Flynn's unmasking, the new Perry Mason episode would have started in 2016 and we'd still be waiting for the first scene in a Courtroom sometime next decade, if that.

Thinking back on some of our comments over the last few weeks, I respectfully submit for consideration the probability we need to slow our roll on the vilification of some folks currently serving in the Trump Administration. Namely, Rod Rosenstein. This article below starts to explain why:
Trump’s ‘Witch Hunt’ Tweet Likely Refers to Rosenstein, Not Mueller
http://heavy.com/news/2017/06/trump-witch-hunt-rosenstein-rod-tweet-robert-mueller-memo-under-investigation-who-did-it-mean/
Who was Trump talking about in the tweet? The only plausible answer: Trump meant Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein. Fox News reported that an anonymous source confirmed to the network that Trump was talking about Rosenstein.
That raises new questions: Why would Trump publicly go after the deputy attorney general in his own Department of Justice? Furthermore, Rosenstein has repeatedly stressed that special prosecutor Robert Mueller’s investigation is an independent one, although he has authority to fire Mueller. Some think Trump is trying to force Rosenstein’s recusal so a more conservative associate AG named Rachel Brand would oversee Mueller. Bloomberg reports she is considered more along the lines of a Neil Gorsuch type than Rosenstein.
Rachel Brand worked for the George Bush administration and is part of the conservative Federalist Society, reports Bloomberg, whereas Rosenstein worked for Justice during the Bill Clinton years.
But, you know, here's a problem: Rod Rosenstein is *also* part of the conservative Federalist Society.
Federalist Society Names 2006 Distinguished Alum
http://hlrecord.org/2006/04/federalist-society-names-2006-distinguished-alum/
On April 18, 2006, the Harvard Federalist Society honored U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod Rosenstein ’89 with its 2006 Distinguished Alumni Award. In his talk accompanying the recipient of the award, Mr. Rosenstein discussed his vision of his role as a federal prosecutor and how his office handles the day-to-day challenges of law enforcement. Given the expansion of federal law, Mr. Rosenstein stressed that prioritization and strong bonds with state and local officials are essential ingredients to meeting the four main responsibilities of a federal prosecutor: deterrence, safeguarding the money and property of the United States, fostering the public’s confidence in law enforcement, and seeking justice in every case.
I like the sound of this guy and it seems to me there are folks who *want* us to think bad things about him. He wrote a damn good letter publicly prosecuting James Comey. Until proven otherwise, for me he's not simply one of the good guys, he's one of the damn good guys.

RG,
I agree about the instant vilification. I have been watching the alt-right opportunists go after McMaster like he's some shill of Soros or something. It is another version of a witch hunt.
Why should I believe Mike Cernovich when he says "he has sources who say blah blah" any more then the New York Times and their unnamed sources?
I am not interested in being manipulated by ANY faction. Many of these people have their own interests, including hidden idealogical leanings and financial backers.
We do not know all that is going on. We cannot. It's frustrating, because most of the people on this site really, REALLY want to know things.
I take breaks and watch mysteries precisely because the desire for solving the current "mystery" in the news is consuming.

Joan - in the previous thread, remarked about the Andy McCarthy article that asserts Rosenstein actually assigned Mueller to do a witch hunt.
My sense of how Rosenstein tasked Mueller is that Rosenstein handed over a list of specific cases, or a stack of specific case files. "These and no others" are what Comey was referring to on March 20th.
Rosenstein can't list those cases to the public, so he recapitulates Comey's March 20 statement in the public grant. But the actual grant is a stack of case files.
The press and the public, as they are wont to do, parses the shit out of the grant and invests hours in speculation.

I doubt good, decent, honest people are even a substantial number in the bowels of Washington DC and its outlying government enclaves, but the number of good, decent, honest people has to be more than "one" (Trump). I'm confident that Sessions is another, and whoever he endorses (Rosenstein, Brand and Boente are three) are unlikely to be hacks.

The NAS was set up with Carnegie Foundation funding and is tied both to the US government as well as the other Carnegie philanthropies. They release on average about 5-10 reports a week. Instead, of releasing yesterday with the rest, this one is looking for the story to be the supposed suppression.
I peruse the titles and then download whatever seems apt in a given week. The behavioral and social sciences are a surprising percentage of the seminars and workshops of what will turn into reports.
It is very easy to see the planned Marxist Humanist template and the belief that society, places, and people can now be directed with just the right kind of legislation and public policy. It's laid out weekly and has been in high gear since about Bush 41.
Clearly plans for us ratcheted up as that Berlin Wall came down. The NAS is a preferred dispenser of those plans.

cboldt,
This derangement has ulterior motives, in my opinion. One is to distract the administration with answering critics of various administration members (Rosenstein, Sessions, McMaster, Bannon, etc.).
The other is a testing to see what avenue of attack will shave off some of Trump's support.

I'm sure the motives of the Sessions, Rosenstein, et al bashers is mixed. No doubt some aim to cause harm, but many, I sense, are simply frustrated. Of course, there is always the self-serving motivation. The pundits are just chumming the water for income.

rse - Schooling in political science could be renamed "how to social engineer the globe," because one takeaway from the educational experience is that global governance is a foregone conclusion.
Law schools are similar. Leftist outcome is assumed to be the just result. Classes teach how to persuade judges to reach the "correct" outcome. It's all outcome-based.

cboldt-I have had law school deans come up to me after I asked a question in a public forum and ask how I knew what the accreditors (the ABA in the case of law schools) were requiring of them. They are being told they must teach students they lust see the law as a tool to achieve the common good.
When my youngest wanted us to stay for convocation during orientation last year and my husband heard what was being openly admitted to and advocated for in the name of higher ed, I think it was the first time my work suddenly became pertinent to his world.
Because the global is to be achieved cybernetically it is much harder for the average person to see.
I thought of OL yesterday when U Vermont's med school announced it would no longer be using lecture formats. That means even specialists will have limited knowledge unless they somehow become an avid reader on the side.

https://www.curbed.com/2017/8/7/16110002/inequality-segregation-fair-housing-kahlenberg is a call for an Economic Fair Housing Act to prevent exclusionary zoning by wealth and income.
Probably an NAS report on this somewhere. Probably part of a Social Determinants of Health workshop.

I wonder if the NORKs think they can get away with playing "chicken" with that patrol boat?
Like the Iranians were doing when Obama was in office.
Guess it comes down to cunning or crazy.

U Vermont's med school announced it would no longer be using lecture formats.
Is something broken that they're trying to fix? Or is this "we want you to admire how proggy we are"?
Mind numbingly disgusting.

rse - the education system was coopted long ago. Globalization has been a real force for probably 100 years, since the advent of fast communications and travel. Institutional resistance has to be tamped down. Churches are infected too.

The issue with lecture formats is unauthorized dissent has an opportunity to express itself, risking the spread of too much free thinking.
Posted by: cboldt | August 08, 2017 at 08:01 AM
It's actually related to this http://www.phenomenaleducation.info/phenomenon-based-learning.html but the deans were probably just told that in-context active learning is more lasting.
I have a reader whose dad was in the hospital over a month and they only started to make progress on what was wrong when they refused to see or listen to any of the younger doctors. I have a family member who is a doc who has said the same when he conducts interviews for staff positions now.
This will spread though to fit with what is really going on in K-12. Click on that link and then look at the rubric. That's for K-12 but the law and med school ed has to now build on that base and the shifts in the Next Generation Science Standards. Their units and themes are straight out of Phenomenon-based learning and say so if you recognize the template already.

http://invisibleserfscollar.com/priming-the-springs-of-action-reconstituting-we-the-people-via-internalized-habits-and-values/ is my latest post from late last week and the infiltration of the churches is what we are talking about in the post and comments.

rse, every education link you provide is written in irritating jargon, I'm sure by design.

That "phenomenon based learning" thing is psychobabble. It will eventually cause its own collapse.
Posted by: cboldt | August 08, 2017 at 08:15 AM
cboldt, will it collapse us before or after it collapses itself?

Stranahan was on the abedin massed that no one wanted to touch, ironically it's all in public records but as Malone said in the untouchables you need to be willing to take the heat, also like the mayor told harvy sent 'everyone whose wallet is going to be lightwe' which are many of the firm's like Wilmer Cutler who depend on Qatar danegeld that includes torygraph owner the pir

Quinnipiac poll of Aug 2nd
If it is the same poll, I just looked at the methodology of the release 8/3/17 and it says nationwide 23/33 R/D and a lot of I.
Posted by: sbw | August 08, 2017 at 08:41 AM
SBW, we all know they have weaponized the techniques for polling so effectively that I treat them all just as I do stories from the MSM.
I don't even read them.
I live with a poll of one, myself, and trust me that is worrisome enough.

You can complain about who's pushing for a ConCon all you want. I don't care. Article V is in the Constitution and wasn't intended as a suicide pact. We don't adhere to the Constitution anyway so I don't know why you naysayers argue otherwise.

-- will it collapse us before or after it collapses itself --
In some ways we all ride all together, and in other ways, we each ride with ourself, out family, and whatever circles we choose to run in.
I dither between amused, interested, angry and indifferent as I watch important and valuable institutions run headlong into self-destruct. It's too big and complex to predict, and for most of us, the circle of influence is tiny. Never give up though. Never give up.
