Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg for President? You might think he doesn't have a prayer, but in fact he is no longer an atheist.
Bill Scher of Politico offers some free advice to Zuckerberg. This is my favorite bit, urging Zuckerberg to get back to comprehensive immigration "reform":
Trump grabbed onto the immigration issue and never let go. You started FWD.us, in a failed attempt to pass immigration reform under Obama, and seemingly gave up. The group still exists, but you remain behind the scenes.
Now immigration is back on the front page, as Trump is proposing a 50 percent cut in the number of legal immigrants America will accept, with an emphasis on skilled, English-speaking workers. FWD.us is opposing the legislation. But your personal Facebook page is silent, when you could be playing a much bigger public role. Since a priority of imported skilled workers is good for Silicon Valley corporations, you would have extra credibility in going against your self-interest, and arguing that a strict emphasis on high-skill labor is economically myopic and antithetical to the American spirit.
I would pay extra to see a guy with a net worth of $70 billion explain that America needs more unskilled workers since maybe their presence doesn't depress the wages of the native unskilled. Maybe!
Lest you wonder, this passage makes it clear that Bill Scher has not done his homework and has no idea who he is advising:
4. Take down an opponent. Politics is bloodsport. It won’t come easily for you, as you are more accustomed to geeky Facebook live chats. But political neophytes need to show voters they can throw a punch.
Throw a punch?!? OMG, self-styled advisers need to show they can read, or even watch movies! Has Scher seen The Social Network? Andrew Garfield, playing Zuckerberg's early partner Eduardo Saverin, finds his Facebook experience to be less bloody than Hacksaw Ridge.
Whatever. Oprah will beat Zuckerberg into the ground like a tent stake.
Question for Ralph L: does Zuckerberg fold his underwear?

I think he is bored and has no idea how to interact with real people. How old is he - mid 40's? Does he have any other family? Does he belong to a church, or a bowling league? did he ever serve in the military?
Sad person, I think. However, it is not the nation's responsibility to give him something to do.

Just one comment for now. On Rosenstein asserting that Mueller is limited in the scope of his inquiry: My cynical side says that Rod will use that only to keep any investigation away from Hillary and the Democrats. That piece someone linked comparing Mueller with Cox was very compelling. And disturbing, since I don't think Trump has enough Republicans in Congress on his side to get away with firing Mueller.

narciso,
You know more about these things than I do, but I was wondering. The White House has said WRT some of the staff fired from the NSC that they would look to find other places for them in the Administration.
We have something like sixteen or seventeen intelligence entities in the government. Where does the NSC fit into all of this? The President receives Intel from a variety of sources. Does McMaster have the ability to prevent that information from getting through?
I thought at the time of these firings that McMaster was acting to contain what appeared to be open insubordination at the NSC primarily from people put in place by General Flynn. As a practical matter, it might also be a way of centralizing all of the holdouts from the Obama era with a view to weeding out those who are leaking information from within the White House.
That's the best face that I can put on it. I can't imagine any of these changes altering the President's positions on foreign policy. At least they don't appear to have so far.
Posted by: Barbara | August 06, 2017 at 11:26 PM

I understand, narciso. What I'm trying to determine is the President's strategy in all of this.
He hasn't changed his positions, and many of these people have been reassigned. One thing is certain in my pov. McMaster has in effect boxed himself in. He's surrounded by his sycophants. We'll have to see where this leads, but I don't see this as changing the policies of the President. At least, not so far.
Posted by: Barbara | August 06, 2017 at 11:50 PM
He trusts McMaster and Mattis because of their previous record and some of their most recent accomplishments George Marshall was a very capable staff officer but some of his staffing choices at state, were Dubois. I guess he resemeles gen goodoaster in theeisenhower era.

We have severalproxy wars going on between Russia China Iran and NK against the US and its rag tag team of partners. Reagan had Thatcher and the Pope in his conflict with Russia. Russia now has China and the other two bad actors with a willing Pope so Trump challenges are much greater.
We are in the midst of a trade war with oil being the first commodity that gets blown out which is occurring China needs to sell us their goods otherwise there will be riots in the streets once all the factories shutter. Speaking of Zuckerberg, how'd his 2010 plan to donate $100 Million to improve Newark's Public Schools turn out?
Business Insider: Mark Zuckerberg's $100 million donation to Newark public schools failed miserably
Here's where it went wrong:
The $US100 million from Zuckerberg actually became $US200 million under the agreement other sources would match his contribution. Here’s where that money went:
---Labour and contract costs: $US89.2 million
---Charter schools: $US57.6 million
---Consultants: $US21 million
---Various local initiatives: $US24.6 million...
...Zuckerberg envisioned the teacher contract reform to be a centrepiece of the reform...But the teachers’ union only agreed upon those measures if the seniority protections remained intact...
...Finally, $US20 million of Zuckerberg’s donation went to consultants ...Consultants were making $US1000 a day while the local teachers and administrators did not see any of the additional funds in merit pay that they were promised.
-----------------------------
Sounds like the road to Newark was paved with good intentions.

The FBI said earlier such records did not exist.

simply stupid,
I have long followed Richard Fernandez on Twitter, and usually read his columns when inked here.
I don't disagree with any of your points about Iran, Russia, and North Korea. On the other hand, Trump did get that samctions bill through the national security council with Russian and Chinese agreement. It's a step forward indicating some measure of improvement. Whether it will work or not, I don't know.
Regarding the political dealings of generals, I am not ignorant about that, either. One thing I have learned, however, is that ALL human organizations have a political component, hence the term "office politics." There are politics within school systems. The Vatican has its own separate political dealings internally, with factions based on Catholic interpretation plus who knows who.
Unions have politics. Heck, the local furniture store I worked fo had politics within it as well.
Mattis was chosen, I believe, because he has the confidence of the enlisted men and because he had so recently retired, wasn't caught up in consulting jobs with defense contractors and such. Both Mattis and Kelly understand the huge bureaucracy of the Pentagon and the wider one of the government.
I am by nature an optimist. Trump is trying to improve things, which suits me just fine. Yes, there are lots of things going on in the world which are dangerous. I just don't see why I should take the "No matter what, we are doomed" position.

Regarding those tarmac emails, I am pretty sure the entire FBI didn't say they didn't exist, but the story assigned collective responsibility.
WHO said those emails didn't exist? Comey? McCabe? Some paid-off underling? Someone ought to be up for perjury if that was testified to before Congress.

Miss M,
My linked story says this:
The ACLJ notes that under the leadership of then-Director James Comey the FBI had originally denied the existence of such records.
“No records responsive to your request were located,” FBI Chief of Record/Information David Hardy wrote a letter responding to ACLJ’s Freedom of Information Act request.
I read elsewhere that that amounted to the equivalent of Testimony under Oath. Over to the Lawyers, but regardless, in actuality it comes across effectively as an intentional lie by the FBI to those requesting this info:
they made the declaration [that the records did not exist], now we know that declaration was wrong,” Sekulow said. “The Comey FBI lied to us.”
I think Sessions has an opening if he cares to exploit it.

As we continue to see hair on fire reports from the media that the Mosque in Minneapolis was probably bombed by suspected Terrorists, it's worth seeing how the Islamic Terrorist have won the battle in Australia.
A Synagogue was to be built in Bondi Beach, just outside Sydney, but authorities have decided to refuse permission for it to be built, under the rationale that if the Jews built such a thing it would incite Muslims to destroy it, and as a consequence innocent people might get hurt in those predicted Muslim terrorist attacks. I'm not making this up:
Bondi synagogue ruling over terror fears shames Australia
AUSTRALIA is shamed. A NSW court last week banned construction of a synagogue at Bondi, to save locals from getting accidentally hurt if the Jews are shot or bombed.
After this decision by the Land and Environment Court, what’s next? Send Jews back to the ghettos to keep us safe?
What a victory for the jihadists trying to kill them.
Worth a read, and probably worth discussing with your Aussie niece, Miss M.

Regarding McMaster and Mattis, we have this excellent article from Victor Davis Hanson:
https://amgreatness.com/2017/08/05/mcmaster-
"I think we, the uninformed of the general public, can still understand the ground rules of these three quite different mavericks: Mattis and McMaster have been given rare latitude by Trump to re-establish serious national strategies, and doing so requires using some levers of traditional U.S. power and influence. In exchange, as non-politicos and representatives of the military establishment, they remain loyal servants of presidential policy, and that means the advancement of Trump’s nationalist agenda—but also a 19th-century noble insistence on order, respect for chain of command, and obedience to the dictates of superiors."

Please read the entire thing.

daddy,
The story is behind a paywall, so I can't access it.
Don't know that I will see her again, as she was off to visit friends in Louisville today. Since this is my dem sister's stepdaughter, I am not likely to bring up a political question as I am not wanting to start a family feud.

So by the same logic, what with all that Islamophobia out there, were told, of course no mosques should be built.

The Atlantic: Hillary Wants to Preach
...former Newsweek editor Kenneth Woodward revealed that Clinton told him in 1994 that she thought “all the time” about becoming an ordained Methodist minister.
... Scripture appears to have shaped Clinton on the campaign trail—as it has throughout her life...While other girls were flipping through beauty mags, she was reading about Vietnam and poverty in a now-defunct magazine for Methodist students...A well-worn Bible was always on the Clinton family’s dining room table...
...Clinton “doesn’t wear her religion on her sleeve, she just practices it. She follows the edict of what’s attributed to St. Francis: ‘Preach the gospel always, and if you need to, use words.’”
Here's Hillary "Preaching The Gospel" in 2011: "We came, we saw, he died! Ha, Ha Ha Ha Ha!
Sort'a makes you wonder what came First, Hillary wanting to be a Preacher or Hillary wanting to be a Marine?
