The Sarah Palin lawsuit has been dismissed "with prejudice", although she can appeal that decision.
A .pdf of the opinion is here.
Background at the WaPo and NY Post. It will be interesting to see how the judge balances the right to pursue defamation suits with the Times defense of "How could there be malice when we had no idea what the facts were?". Reckless disregard of the truth used to be a criteria, but maybe not.
FOR THE NON-LAWYERS: From the "with prejudice" link above:
An involuntary dismissal with prejudice may be ordered for any number of reasons, which the judge will specify. Such a dismissal can be appealed to a higher court, but it is not possible to simply start over by re-filing the case with a few changes.
UPDATE: NY Times coverage. No comment received from Ms. Palin's lawyers.
Re: Hillary.
On the one hand the FBI justifies not releasing Hillary's files since they "feel" that nobody in America is interested, yet on the other hand the Media has been pushing Hillary's New Book Tour all around North America because they "feel" people will be enormously interested.
How about since nobodies interested in Hillary anymore we remove her taxpayer funded Secret Service protection for her book tour?

Ty Clevenger, the lawyer, has been trying to get Mrs. Clinton and her personal lawyers disbarred for their handling of her official emails during her time as secretary of state. He's met with resistance among lawyers, and now his request for information from the FBI's files has been shot down.
"You have not sufficiently demonstrated that the public's interest in disclosure outweighs personal privacy interests of the subject," FBI records management section chief David M. Hardy told Mr. Clevenger in a letter Monday.

Jane,
If Andy McCarthy is on the cruise please give us a report on how the crowd onboard reacts to McCarthy's column on the Joe Arpaio pardon. I think McCarthy knows the Justice System inside out but doesn't know squat about "Justice." He'd probably be angry that Solomon didn't follow though and cut the baby in half.

I love how that dipshit Florida Sociology Professor who just got shit-canned for his obnoxious tweet, started off his obnoxious tweet with these words:

I wonder if he believes in Instant Karma now:)

daddy - I don't believe in instant oatmeal, either.
Posted by: Frau Haferflocken | August 29, 2017 at 08:44 PM
daddy,
Your analogy to cutting the baby in half is brilliant.
I have spent years listening to various conservatives (won't name names here but you know who they are) talking about blue collar workers like they are simply unwilling to take a risk and move, or too lazy to get re-educated in computer programming.
If the mine closes in your town, you CAN'T move, unless you want to abandon your house. A mining town with no mine is nothing more than a small town with no prospects, and no one will buy your house.
If you are 50 with a high school education, you aren't going to easily be retrained.
The insensitivity of these people is exactly why Republicans keep losing elections. They have no idea of the struggles of the working class.
Let me tell you guys something. You can live in a world of decent salary and job, and it can all be gone in a heartbeat. I have lived a version of this life over the last few years. People like McCarthy have no idea what it's like to worry about your legal bills and your wife's medical bills. Arpaio does, and Trump had actual EMPATHY for him, just like he cared about blue collar workers.
What this country needs is compassion for all of its citizens. I am seeing little of it from both the Never Trump group and the Leftists.

I am seeing too many stories about pets abandoned in Houston.
My sister and I discussed this today. During Katrina, when they wouldn't take dogs in the shelters, she said she would dress her dog in a coat and hat and say he was her grampa. (This actually could have worked if you had seen Percy.)

Ya know, Kurt Schlicter (sp) writes great pieces about the wickedness on the Left and good on him. But I also remember some pretty haughty criticism of Trump supporters who were willing to stand up and, as Oliver Twist did, ask for more gruel.

Andy McCarthy drives me crazy. He never thinks his fellow elite lawyers could possibly have improper motives. They are charming, smart, learned, have lovely kids and all that. They are following the law, etc. F'n Candide. No shyte sherlock, smart people can be all of that and still be WRONG!
By the way, keep bringing it RG. Spot on.
Posted by: mad jack | August 29, 2017 at 09:43 PM
JimNorCal,
Yes. I remember as well. I would like him a lot better if he admitted he had been wrong about Trump.
I wish Kurt and others like him would admit that Trump is actually smart. I wish that they would admit that he has some unique ideas which will help this country.
I wish they would admit that he is a man who has a big heart. If he didn't, he would never have run.
As a Trump supporter, I don't really care if Kurt thinks I am a dim bulb. I just wish he would admit he was wrong.

Joel Osteen's Houston megachurch opens doors as shelter after criticism
From reading this story I don't think the Osteen Church was ever closed in the first place.
Osteen said the church "never closed its doors" and was serving as a relief supply distribution center. He said it would "house people once shelters reach capacity."
Osteen's comment stood in contrast to a church Facebook post and a since-deleted Instagram remark by Lakewood associate pastor John Gray, who said flooded highways had made the church inaccessible.
"For the people spreading lies about my church. If WE could get there WE WOULD OPEN THE DOORS," Gray's comment read. "As soon as the highways aren't flooded please know @lakewoodchurch will do all they can alleviate the pain and suffering of as many people as possible. Love y'all! #CantStandLiars."
Damage successfully done the Media moves on to its next target---Melania's footwear.
