Geez,
Just learned the biological father of my stepson, which stepson I've been taking care of and been his only father since he was 13, passed away. They hadn't seen each other since my son was 5. Now I have to tell him his real dad is gone three years after his mom.
Apparently his dad had schizophrenia too. Had been dead a month before they found him.
In a morbid twist that GUS will appreciate he owned five dachshunds who also died since no one fed them.
The Marie Provost story is, fortunately, an urban legend.

So when is the Lawsuit gonna' be filed by the 'ball-rocked' protester against the Phoenix PD?

Frau Uboot aus dem Süden

Bringing it forward (a JOM favorite just like OT)...
Iggy sez "To me the fatal mistake was the roadblock.
They knew where he was going; they only had to follow him and deal with him at the end of the trip."

Just like it was known that David Koresh went into town regularly for his haircut, etc. The Feds could have picked him up many times away from the compound. Was it Janet? Eric? It wasn't Evita Clinton who was busy becoming the smartest woman in the world. It certainly wasn't BJ Clinton who had other irons in the fire.

A few comments before I head to bed.

Frau, yes, it can reach 120 degrees in Phoenix in August. It is not common, but it does happen. Mostly the hot weather there is before the "monsoons" roll in, when the temperature drops and the humidity rises.

The temperature drop is to about 105, and the humidity rises to levels that would thrill the Midwesterners.

If you have the opportunity to hear the 1812 overture with real cannons, that is a treat. In concert halls, most often the concussionists try to mimic the cannon shots with a big bass drum, the tympani, or both. It is not the same as real cannon shots.

Those usually are reserved for outdoor venues, and they are worthwhile.

And with that, too bed!

Frau Uboot aus dem Süden

Well done! I keep checking the photo and it looks like Pepper Balls kept his phone and other device throughout his now famous adventure. Is it true that Kaitlyn Jenner will visit him in the hospital?

AFAIK It has not been established who threw the tear gas in Phoenix. In Charlottesville, the Antifa-Commiethugs did. Last night the Phoenix police tweeted they were busy with a criminal activity. So did the police respond with tear gas or was the tear gas thrown by the goons? From all the zillion photographers at these events, there must be some evidence. Ah, for a functioning press.

Sleep tasty. Must keep ahead of or now just up with daddy in reading The Great Upheaval. OL has finished Chapter 6 for sure.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

OAN (One America News) has a segment up titled "Indictment Against Imran Awan Leaves Out Key Piece of Evidence."

The report tells us the following. (My transcript)

Reporter Harrison Sharp: The case against the IT staffer for DWS takes an unusual turn. The latest news comes a month after Imran Awan's arrest, and reveals his indictment leaves out one of the most damning pieces of evidence against him. His charges do include 4 counts of Bank Fraud Conspiracy, as well as falsifying Credit Applications and unlawful monetary transactions. Yet it fails to mention that after wiring some $300,000 to Pakistan Awan was captured at the Airport trying to flee the country, and according to National Review contributor and former US Atty Andy McCarthy the Courts appear to be going out of their way to avoid mentioning it. McCarthy says that is very unusual, as Awan's attempt to escape the country is one of the clearest signs of his guilt...He along with 6 other family members are under suspicion of mishandling sensitive information after working for high ranking Democrats as Computer Systems Managers...Yet Awan is the only one who didn't escape to Pakistan. His other family members still continue to receive funds wired from DC, all at 3 times the amount for Congressional Staffers in similar positions. In an interview McCarthy said the omission of Awan's attempt to flee the country has to be on purpose though it is not clear who would have made that decision.

I've missed a lot lately so I don't know if you guys have read that. This is the first confirmation I've read that the other family members are all back in Pakistan.

daddy

Here's the last graph of McCarthy's NRO column on the Indictment which I had not read:

To summarize, the indictment is an exercise in omission. No mention of the Awan group’s theft of information from Congress. Not a hint about the astronomical sums the family was paid, much of it for no-show “work.” Not a word about Wasserman Schultz’s keeping Awan on the payroll for six months during which (a) he was known to be under investigation, (b) his wife was known to have fled to Pakistan, and (c) he was not credentialed to do the IT work for which he had been hired. Nothing about Wasserman Schultz’s energetic efforts to prevent investigators from examining Awan’s laptop. A likely currency-transportation offense against Alvi goes uncharged. And, as for the offenses that are charged, prosecutors plead them in a manner that avoids any reference to what should be their best evidence. There is something very strange going on here.

Anyone know If McCarthy is still vouching for the integrity of Comey and Mueller and Fitz, etc?

Miss Marple the Deplorable

daddy,

I don't know the answer to your question, but if Awan is in custody and the rest of the family is in Pakistan, who is wiring them the money?

Wire transfers can be traced to the bank of origin and then the sender. So I assume the feds have that information, which would be very interesting to know.

anonamom

I found this NYT account of emails from WSJ editor-in-chief to reporters who submitted coverage of the Trump rally telling:

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/23/business/media/wall-street-journal-editor-admonishes-reporters-over-trump-coverage.html?_r=0

Newsworthy to NYT:

“Sorry. This is commentary dressed up as news reporting,” Mr. Baker wrote...

He added in a follow-up, “Could we please just stick to reporting what he said rather than packaging it in exegesis and selective criticism?”

In February, Mr. Baker fielded tough questions at an all-hands staff meeting about whether the newspaper’s reporting on Mr. Trump was too soft. Mr. Baker denied that notion, and he suggested that other newspapers had abandoned their objectivity about the president; he also encouraged journalists unhappy with the Journal’s coverage to seek employment elsewhere.

anonamom

So, this is what it seems to me is going on re: Awan

Awan has to have all of DWS's emails. (And Lord knows who else's.)
You know, the woman who made sure Bernie lost the nomination so HRC could assume the throne.

DWS is not the sharpest knife in the drawer. And her brother is a prosecutor in the office this falls to. Most likely she banked on the hope that she could "keep it under control" by continuing to pay Awan, and likely his family, as well as get all the relatives out, while prosecutors took their sweet time doing anything.

Awan almost made it out too.

Something/somebody made the prosecutors quit dragging their heels,
so they turned out that minimalist indictment, hoping that his lawyer--probably paid for by George Soros--can get Awan off/plea bargain some kind of minimum sentence so he won't rat them all out.

Draining The Swamp is a HUGE endeavor.
Going to take a second term, at a minimum.

Ignatz Ratzkiwatzki

--In February, Mr. Baker fielded tough questions at an all-hands staff meeting about whether the newspaper’s reporting on Mr. Trump was too soft.--

How can reporting be either too soft or too hard if one is simply relaying the facts as they occurred?
Perhaps the Goldilocks media should be eaten by an orange haired bear.

Another Bob

A-mom, that talk of journalistic "toughness" and "verve" is crap. There's no need to tick such boxes in a news story. Relate the newsworthy bits about subject being covered fairly and fully, differentiate clearly between what you know and what you speculating, turn in your story, and then just shut your yap about it.

Mostly, and I'd appreciate SBW's opinion, there's a real need for modesty. A journalist may turn out to be a change agent, but must never aspire to be one. Be the eyes and ears of your readership, do NOT try to be their heart nor brain.

Aside - thanks for the diet cliffs notes a few threads back. One question: no beer nor wine, but pure alcohol? Alcohol is alcohol, no?

Captain Hate

Carlos Slim must think it's a quaint concept that some rags strive to keep opinions out of news coverage. How retro.

cboldt

henry - the "creep" narrative by Hillary isn't working, but McConnell (the other Hillary) is milking it for all it's worth. Trump is literally breathing down the neck of Congress.

anonamom

Another bob--if you want to see the pounds drop, skip the beer/wine for a while and liquor up with straight vodka/gin/scotch whiskey. And limit that as tolerated ;-)

Yes, alcohol is alcohol, but you know how they do the equivalents--

one shot (2 oz) spirits=5 oz wine=12 oz beer

The difference in those volumes is made up by carbohydrate calories. Carbs release insulin. Insulin stores calories as fat.

So if you want to see some changes, skip those carb calories.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

Fall is actually my favorite time of year. This goes back to when I was a kid and lived on a small farm out in the country. There were no neighbors to play with so it was just us kids. Fall meant we had stuff to do at school and I got to see my friends again.

When I was in high school, I had so ingrained that attitude that I really looked forward to school starting, although by then I was more mobile in the summer. But in high school fall meant football, homecomiing and the dance, dates at drive-in restaurants, etc.

So, I like fall.

But the thing is, now we're woke, and we’ve realized that our establishment sucks, and that we’re tired of being the suckees. They didn't listen to us when we gave them the Tea Party, so now we gave them Trump. And they're very, very upset with us. That's a key reason they want to undercut Trump. That's true whether they are some donkey–looking senator from Arizona or Nebraska pimping a book about his agonizing moral struggles, or some tiresome op-ed scribbler serving as the domesticated house conservative on a failing liberal rag, or the invasion-happy beneficiary of his parents' success who finds he can't fill the cabins on his brochure’s cruises anymore.

"You're all suckers. You're dim and you're ignorant and you can't even feel yourself sliding toward something that will surprise even you with its fundamental ugliness, something that everybody who can see past the veil of their emotions can see as plain as a church by daylight, to borrow a phrase from that Willie Shakespeare fella. The problem, of course, is that you, in your pathetic desire to be loved by a guy who wouldn't have 15 seconds for you on the street, are dragging the rest of us toward that end, too.

A guy basically went mad, right there on the stage in front of you, and you cheered and booed right on cue because you're sheep and because he directed his insanity at all the scapegoats that your favorite radio and TV personalities have been creating for you over the past three decades. Especially, I guess, people like me who practice the craft of journalism in a country that honors that craft in its most essential founding documents. The President of the United States came right up to the edge of inciting you to riot and you rode along with him. You're on his team, by god."

They really hate us. I firmly believe this guy would kill all of us if we could.

And, may I say, President Trump pointing out the dishonesty of the press has really pushed this guy's button. Apparently the President was supposed to take all of these attacks like the Karl Rove punching bag model and not answer back.

Huh, I can read articles by a hate-filled guy like that Pierce moron and smile. But I just started to read an article at National Review, The Left Opens Fire on Columbus Statues, that included this paragraph:

"New York City in 2017 is a one-party place where high elected officials literally parade down Fifth Avenue next to terrorists who were convicted of shocking crimes in the 1970s, but where an inanimate hunk of metal commemorating Christopher Columbus that has stood in the city for 125 years is declared a menace to society. The hard-left city-council speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito — who last made headlines when she appeared next to convicted terrorist Oscar Lopez Rivera on a float at the head of the Puerto Rican Day Parade in June — called for taking down the Christopher Columbus statue that stands on a column overlooking the vast roundabout named after him. The statue has been a proud symbol of the city since 1892, when it was first installed in honor of the 400th anniversary of his landing in the New World, and is closely associated with New York’s large Italian-American contingent."

and I feel sick to my stomach. The left is like the Taliban or ISIS. I can remember being saddened when the art in Palmyra was destroyed. The things Blasio and the mindless people around him find important and satisfying fill me with revulsion and contempt.

MM "The only problem I have with Mitch McConnell is that, after hearing Repeal & Replace for 7 years, he failed!"

I go a step beyond that in my disgust for McConnell and Ryan both - and the GOPe Senate and the GOPe House. While focusing on the failure in the Senate to pass that bill, please never lose sight of the fact that both the House Bill and the Senate Bill(s) were terrible non-attempts to restore conservative free market non government solutions and either of them would have resulted in Single Payer in the near future.

Miss Marple the Deplorable

DebinGA,

I know those stories are sickening, but we need to know things about that event. Terry McAuliffe used typical Clinton staging tactics in Charlottesville.

Historical examples of this include Bill Clinton's Sister Soljah speech, the firing of the White House travel office employees, and the Waco disaster.

The typical Clinton MO is to set up a situation in which they get something they want because of power, greed, or simple anger, while pretending to pose as the virtuous side.

That's what McAuliffe did. It would have en very easy for him to send in state troopers and/or National Guard to keep the 2 factions separated. Instead, fewer police and no efforts made to separate the groups, while many accounts indicated they were forced together.

It was a staged event designed to showcase violence with the blame placed on Trump supporters. You will never convince me that David Duke wasn't in on it.

I guess this joker, with his posh MFM platform at Esquire did a lousy job then! He couldn't convince Americans to follow HIS beliefs.

You are now the declared adversaries of what I do for a living, and your idol is a danger to the country and so are you. Own it. Deal with it. And, for the love of god, and for the sake of the rest of us who live in this country, do better at being citizens.

So this MFMer is declaring American citizens "a danger to the country". What is a country apart from its citizens?

An old related comment -
A reminder to the old MFM & the old professional political crew that are whining about regular, God fearing, law abiding, tax paying Americans standing up & voting for Trump.

A bit of Ann Barnhardt's response to Lindsey 'you jackass' Graham when he smugly stated - "Free speech is a great idea, but...."

"Free speech is a great idea?!? It is a bedrock principle of Western civilization & the United States. Individuals are free sovereign agents. Individuals are not property or drones of the State. The government doesn't tell The People what to think & say, The People tell the government what to think & say through the mechanisms of representative Republic governance under the Constitution.

But what I suspect this really has to do with is intellectual snobbery & elitism. Lindsey Graham - you look at Terry Jones & you see a redneck with a handlebar mustache who speaks with a southern drawl without the benefit of a fancy ivy league education & you determine that a man like him cannot be trusted with his own personal, intellectual sovereignty under the 1st amendment & therefore you, in your superior intellectual state, have to rein him in.

Listen, jackass it doesn't work that way.
The 1st amendment applies to ALL AMERICAN CITIZENS equally. It does not operate on a sliding scale based upon:
*how expensive an education one receives
*what one's income is
*or whether or not one is invited to tony soirees in Georgetown "
