When you are inside a bubble (i.e., a mass hallucination), can you tell? What, other than elusive or delayed reality, determines whether those inside the bubble are as crazy as they seem to the outsiders, or vice versa?
All troubling. But this Jenifer Rubin fantasy about a judicial hearing on the Trump pardon of Arpaio seems like a handy example of "inside the bubble" thinking motivated reasoning rather than a thoughtful attempt to, just a suggestion here, read and interpret the actual court filings.
As to bubble-avoidance, take Ace's advice and go off-line.
Why read it? The opinion will be the same either way.

Wow, Momto2.
That looks to me like it could be faked CNN video, but I'm tending to not think so.
If CNN's Drew Griffin, seen running to offer help, is the guy in the red CNN jacket wearing shorts and Teva type sandals, and moments later he's the rescuer wearing long dark pants and high top rain boots helping the fat "victim" in the blue shirt out of the truck, then it's fake. There's no question the tape is clipped in an edit.
My main question is wondering if the guy we see in the red CNN jacket wearing shorts and Teva sandals is a 2nd CNN employee, wearing the same red CNN jacket as Drew Griffin, but is a different guy altogether, simply part of the camera crew. That would tend to make me think its not fake. It also seems to me that the floating speed of the truck in the water is about where it should have floated to in the 10 or so seconds allotted, so the trucks momentum also tends to indicate to me that it is not fake.
Regardless, this looks like another good mystery all we JOMer's need to study and give our own opinions on. I'm tending to thinking there are 2 CNN guys in red CNN jackets, so I'm going for "Not Fake" but I'm willing to change my mind if properly persuaded. As to why the fat "victim" drove his truck into the water immediately behind a CNN set shot, I wouldn't put that past CNN as a bogus set-up in the first place.
Here's an easier "Exit question:" Can CNN really be so desperate to make themselves look good that they would stage something fake like this?
BTW, Momto2, glad to see you alive and kicking. Hang in there, good friend, and "Hey" to Darby and Mister Mom.

I meant to comment on this yesterday. The president of Home Depot was on Cavuto's show yesterday.
He said we shouldn't have tax cuts because of helping the people of Texas, and we can't afford both. He is supposedly a Republican.
Since I believe very few people go on Cavuto's show without a vested self-interest, I am trying to figure out why he would take this position. It certainly seems like a tailor made excuse for the democrats to look "fiscally responsible" and caring about flood victims.

Rhetorical question on the CNN reporter stepping in to rescue the driver from the consequences of his actions.
Do you guys remember 40 years ago the News Show where Mike Wallace and Peter Jennings were asked if they were with American Troops in some combat zone, what would they did if they spotted some enemy troops ready to ambush the Americans? One of the 2, probably Wallace, said he would notify the American Troops and keep them out of harms way, but then the other reporter, probably Jennings, said he would not notify the American troops that they were walking into an ambush since as a reporter it was his professional duty to remain above engaging in events he was just supposed to report upon without bias or without engaging in. When Mike Wallace heard that answer, he agreed with Jennings and said he took back his first answer, to warn the Americans of danger, and now he would let them walk into the ambush, because his journalistic responsibility to remain neutral and not effect events was more important than taking sides.
So now I bring up the supposed CNN rescue. Why did CNN reporter Drew Griffin get involved? Why not let the fat guy in the truck drown? Saving him was the right thing to do. It was the human thing to do. It was the common sense thing to do. But it wasn't the Mike Wallace/Peter Jennings Profesional Journalist thing to do. If Journalistic integrity mandates that we let our American troops die in preventable ambushes shouldn't it also mandate we let fat morons in pickup trucks die as well? When did that standard change, and would Mike Wallace and Peter Jennings have recommended letting the fat guy drown?
Posted by: daddy on iPad | August 31, 2017 at 07:35 AM
daddy,
Your argument comes down on the side of it being faked, because I don't remember any reporters stepping in to stop Antifa from beating people up, or rescuing people in any other situation of violence or disaster that I can remember.
What will be interesting is if the video quietly disappears.

Morning all! I am ok - I tend to sleep in 3 or 4 hour segments until I get so uncomfortable that it wakes me up. Not being able to move or turn over is not the same as really sleeping but happy to be able to wake up alive!
I really don't know what to make of that CNN episode. It did entertain me for awhile in the wee hours. Someone mentioned that the camera filmed everything except the "rescue" - if filming, why not film the guy getting out of the window of the truck? That would seem to be the key dramatic event that viewers would want to see. And that had to be difficult as the truck was moving and he is no Tiny Tim!
The 2 guys in red jackets do look quite similar but we will see. Obviously, with CNN's history of these types of things...it's no wonder people are skeptical.

Great point, Miss Marple.
So CNN's Drew Griffin did the rescue because it was a scripted role he was playing in a contrived rescue in order to enhance CNN's terrible public opinion polls. I love it. And true or not, I'm happy to put it out there, since the CNN's are so quick to damn millions of Americans daily and Osteen and his Church before he can get a word out edgewise.

I defer to you on the Wallace/Jennings thing. I was uncertain and winging it from distant memory. I forget which was the pompous jackass uninterested in American boys lives, but Jennings being Canadian I guessed it was him. That it was Chris Wallace's unempathetic dad that came up initially with such a lack of human decency and lack of patriotism surprises me not at all. The apple falls not far from the tree.

It is so obviously a fake--that is like 1.5 foot drop off the curb on a regular street in a suburb.
That person was in no danger at all. Throw him a rope? Too funny.
It is like he fell down in a mud puddle. Perhaps one might offer him a hand up, but this would be scarcely more than an act of courtesy.
What is strange about this is that people bought that the fellow was in danger in the first place. The notion that this was a "rescue" is absurd.
(And watch them get away with it too.)
The whole thing is just so comically obvious: whatever are people thinking when thew buy into such obviously staged antics? They slightest moment of reflect would expose it as the cheapest sott of bunk. We have reached a point of hysteria in the nation that we cannot even process the most simple and obvious tomfoolery even when it is right before our eyes.
This "incident" is beyond parody or satire.
(And I guarantee that if it was an actual situation of some danger and the CNN report stepped in and actually did something "heroic" then there would be amply footage of the act. There is almost no possibility of a CNN "reporter putting himself in harms way to help another random American. The best we might hope for is that he might "rescue" his a co-worker or his boss. Given their near total incompetence, their self absorption and their complete lack of even the most basic common sense this is perhaps a blessing to those in real danger.)

Did anyone else notice the little skimpy rope that he supposedly used to rescue the guy? Question one - did they have a rope handy "just in case" they saw someone floating along? Question two - if yes, why not provide a proper hefty rope? It appears to be about the diameter of my little finger. Question three - since we were unable to view the actual rescue - did he lasso the guy and pull him out? Did he just pull him up the bank by his hand? (If so, why display the rope on camera?)
I know these are snarky but guess what? I DON"T CARE!!!

Momto2, that kind of nylon rope comes in handy for tying things down or hauling stuff up to a tree stand. I carry some in my car and in my hunting backpack. In a rescue you go with what you have handy. And sure, I'd carry it over if in reach when I saw the problem. Plus I would bring it back coiled if it wasn't needed. Not sure I would wave it around for the camera, but adrenaline makes you do odd things.

narciso,
Horowitz missed the POINT of the speech, whcih wasn't to give details, which will be worked out through negotiating.
It was a teaching speech explaining in easy to understand terms WHY we need to pass it, and what effects passing it would have.
I am fed up to my eyeballs in all of these armchair critics who cannot see what is obvious even when it's laid out before them like a turkey on a platter.
Horowitz wants details, but if you start with details, the average person's eyes glaze over and they don't understand the main purpose of the tax cuts. Then the dems start in on chipping away at the details.
Nancy Pelosi started in about the tax cuts being for billionaires and such yesterday, but it was the usual dem boilerplate and it had nothing to do with what Trump was talking about at all. So she sounded like a lunatic.
Let's see Horowitz's plan. Has he got any ideas? No. Just complaints.

Or why he did it without warning his boss ahead of time, James?
Given Session's visibility fighting the good fight for the 63 million Trump voters who voted to retsore the Rule of Law, would it be rude of me to ask if he recused himself from the entire job at the same time?

MM,
I use adblock plus. It works pretty well, and it is one of the first things I install on a new computer.

Momto2.
That article on Melania's pumps was great, especially the quote from Robin Givans, who never saw a hideous Michelle outfit she didn't think was just fabulous.
I want to remind you guys that when Obama was campaigning in 2008, Michelle wore tailored suits and those girls were dressed like they had been outfitted by Brooks Brothers for kids. I still think they intentionally portrayed themselves as the Huxtables of Cosby Show fame, with the girls cast in the roles of Rudi and Vanessa. What a scam THAT was!

--Libtards want tax cuts for those who don't pay income taxes.--
Amazing isn't it, GUS?
Let's make the rich pay 90% of the taxes!
Hey, 90% of the tax cuts are going to the rich!!!
We can't cut Social Security because 90% of it goes to the middle and it's not welfare because people pay into it to receive something out!
Hey, the middle pays 90% of Social Security taxes!!!
Cognitive dissonance is an unknown phenomenon to progs.

fire ants eat right through bug spray. They consider it salt on their meal. And they love my toes. They bite the shit out of me.
That reminds me that we have The Richmond Spiders (Arachnids), we have the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs (Ariolimax), we have the University of Baltimore's Super Bees (Apis), but where are the Ants in College Ball? Damn
sexist, racists, specisestsphylumists#%^!Darwin's last book was on worms being responsible for the mulching of strata and the creation for the rest of terrestrial life to engage in their biome competitions: Charles Darwin: The Formation of Vegetable Mould through the Action of Worms (Annelids, Arthropods, etc)
I was going to say something else but damned if I can remember what
Go worms!

I use AdBlockplus too, MM.
Don't even know it's there except when the occasional site won't let you in unless you disable it = goodbye site.
I haven't read a Forbes column for some time just because of that.
